Reel Britannia - a very British podcast about very British movies...with just a hint of professionalism. Episode 178 - Carry On Cruising (1962) "During the War I did Arctic runs that would've made HMS Ulysses look like a trip to Brighton. Without getting a scratch! Two days on a simple cruise with you lot and look at me!" The sixth installment in the beloved Carry On franchise, 1962's Carry On Cruising holds a special place in the series' history. Not only did it take the familiar brand of British seaside humour to the high seas, but it was also the very first Carry On film to be shot and presented in glorious Eastmancolor. This transition to a vibrant palette marked a significant step forward for the series, elevating its visual appeal and setting a new standard for the films that would follow. However, the production was not without its own undercurrents of drama, and the final product received a mixed reception from critics and audiences alike, cementing its status as a unique and much-debated entry in the Carry On canon. All aboard the SS Happy Wanderer for what is, in theory, a relaxing cruise. Captain Crowther, played by the eternally exasperated Sid James, is hoping for one last, quiet trip before a swanky promotion.   His hopes are, naturally, torpedoed within minutes. His crack team of sailors has been replaced by a collection of Britain's finest bumblers, seemingly sourced from a village fete raffle.     There's Kenneth Williams as the First Officer, whose vocabulary is more expansive than the Atlantic itself, yet possesses the practical seamanship of a goldfish. Kenneth Connor is the ship's doctor, a man more interested in diagnosing a case of love-at-first-sight with a passenger than any actual ailments. And let's not forget Lance Percival as the chef, a culinary genius who discovers his arch-nemesis is the gentle rocking of the boat.   What follows is less a luxury cruise and more a floating slapstick convention, now presented in dazzling colour for the very first time.     This and previous episodes can be found everywhere you download your podcasts   Bonus content available at: patreon.com/ReelBritanniaPodcast   Follow us on Twitter @rbritanniapod    Thanks for listening Scott and Steven

In this solo episode, Nik shares a recent experience flying with a new First Officer on a long-duty day. After a long sit, worsening weather, and pressure to finish the trip, the FO spoke up and said he wasn't comfortable taking off . . . and it was the right call. Nik walks through how that moment showed the importance of Crew Resource Management (CRM), especially when the pressure is high and the decision might be unpopular. He explains how clear communication, mutual respect, and knowing your limits are critical to safe flying. This story is a reminder that speaking up can make all the difference. What You'll Learn: What effective Crew Resource Management looks like in real flight conditions How to speak up when you're not comfortable—and why that matters How fatigue, duty limits, and “get-home-itis” affect decision-making Why setting and knowing your personal limits is key to flying safely How to handle external pressure from passengers, schedules, or weather The captain's perspective on respecting input and building crew trust  CONNECT WITH US Are you ready to take your preparation to the next level? Also, a resurrected aviation podcast and a brand new one. Aviation News Southwest Airlines seeks permission to expand international network Southwest Airlines filed a request with the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) to fly international routes to all countries with Open Skies agreements. That would include European countries, Latin America, Asia, and Africa. The airline has not confirmed specific new routes yet. International air travel is governed by bilateral and multilateral agreements between countries, and so airlines need economic authority from the DOT. These Open Skies treaties set the terms for airlines to operate between nations, including route rights, frequency, and capacity. See: U.S. Air Carriers and International Economic Authority from the DOT. Economic Authority is authorized by the Office of the Secretary of Transportation in the form of a certificate for interstate or foreign passenger and/or cargo authority. Newly Released Documents Show What the Feds Knew About the New Jersey Drone Scare In December 2024, the President said the “drone” sightings were "nothing nefarious." Congress received a classified briefing indicating no threat to the public, but the FAA imposed flight restrictions. At the time, TSA presented an internal slideshow (“official use only”) showing four incidents as normal air traffic. That slideshow is now publicly available. Lufthansa Jet Flew 10 Minutes With No Pilot at Controls After Cockpit Emergency Spanish investigators say the Captain on Lufthansa flight LH1140, an A321, took a toilet break, and then the First Officer in the cockpit suffered a “sudden and severe” incapacitation. The Captain had difficulty getting through the security door and the plane flew for 10 minutes without anyone at the controls. Report to Congress on Sleep and Fatigue in Military Aviation The report titled Management of Sleep and Fatigue in Military Aviation [PDF] was published by the Congressional Research Service on May 13, 2025, and examines the effects of sleep deprivation and its impact on operational readiness and aviation safety. The report highlights that military aviators face significant psychological and physiological demands, which can lead to sleep deprivation and fatigue. These conditions are exacerbated by factors such as unpredictable schedules, long-duty days, challenging flight conditions, and disruptions to circadian rhythms due to crossing multiple time zones. Research has shown that sleep deprivation negatively affects cognitive, physical, and emotional functioning, increasing the risk of accidents in training and combat environments. To mitigate these risks, the Department of Defense employs both non-pharmacological and pharmacological strategies. Non-pharmacological measures include administrative policies that limit duty hours, regulate flight schedules, and educate aviators on the importance of sleep. Pharmacological measures, such as FDA-approved medications, are used selectively when behavioral strategies are insufficient. The report also discusses congressional considerations regarding fatigue management policies and their effectiveness in ensuring aviator safety and mission success. US proposes dropping Boeing criminal charge In an online meeting, U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) officials told families of the 737 Max crash victims that the Government may allow Boeing to sign a non-prosecution agreement to settle the case. This would avoid the criminal fraud trial scheduled to begin on June 23, 2025. An earlier settlement agreement was rejected by a judge. A DOJ official said after the meeting that a decis...

The Boom XB-1 is the first independently developed supersonic jet, and the first civil supersonic jet built in America. The XB-1 first flew in March of 2024 and has been through a rigorous program of 11 test flights at steadily increasing speeds. Boom worked with SpaceX to pair the Mini with an aviation data plan. The Mini fits into the T-38's rear cockpit, allows for an occupant of that seat, and does not impede the safe operation of the aircraft or the ejection seat. Korean Airport Exec Dead Of Suicide After Jeju Air Crash The executive was president of the Korea Airports Corporation from 2018 to 2022 and in charge of the 2020 renovation of Muan International Airport in South Korea. He was found dead at his home of an apparent suicide. Last December, a Jeju Air Boeing 737 ran off the runway and into a concrete support surrounding the localizer antenna, killing 179 of the 181 on board. South Korea has mandated the removal of concrete barriers at seven airports.  NTSB Faults United Airlines Pilot For Hard Boeing 767-300ER Landing That Cracked Fuselage United Airlines flight 702, a Boeing 767-300ER (registered N641UA) flying from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) to Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) in Texas, experienced a hard landing. The First Officer had control of the plane as the mains touched down but the nosewheel hit hard and bounced a total of three times. The fuselage skin was buckled and fractured, and the underlying stringers and frames were damaged. The aircraft was repaired and eventually returned to operational service. In its report [PDF], the NTSB found that the FO made nose-down inputs, contributing to the nosewheel abnormally impacting the runway, and were contrary to United Airlines' procedures and training. In addition, the NTSB believes that deployment of the speed brakes and thrust reversers while the nosewheel was still in the air likely contributed to the second runway contact of the nosewheel and the subsequent damage to the airplane. Although much more work remains to be done, the concept could lead to commercial geared turbofans with zero carbon emissions and vastly reduced nitrogen oxides (NOx). Neil Terwilliger, technical fellow for advanced concepts at Pratt, said “HySIITE is about us imagining if there were going to be hydrogen and that it was a viable decarbonization pathway, what kind of engine would take the best advantage of it? Should it look like engines do today, or should we do something different?” The steam injection increases mass flow, improves efficiency, and—Pratt says—dramatically lowers NOx emissions. Pratt & Whitney Hydrogen Steam and Inter-Cooled Turbine Engine (HySITE) HySIITE was studied under a two-year $3.8 million U.S.

Air travel is, relatively speaking, very safe and efficient. But few are aware how many runway incursions, near collisions, etc., occur every year regardless of the political nature of government and its policies. When incidents do occur, we tend to blame those in charge which results in a serious issue being politicized by both sides - one denies and one exaggerates. Of focus, a single incident makes common problems seem uncommon and air travel more dangerous. However, there is some legitimate concern to be had with the FAA's new hiring guidelines, which include providing employment to the following problems: “hearing, vision, missing extremities, partial paralysis, complete paralysis, epilepsy, severe intellectual disability, psychiatric disability and dwarfism.” Although not every air-incident can be blamed on stupidity - as they are usually the results of laziness, honestly missed details, exhaustion, etc. - other cases can be directly linked to Diversity-Equity-Inclusion, such as United 767-300ER (where the First Officer was a fired flight attendant enrolled in the DEI Pilot Training program), United Airlines 777 which plummeted to within a few hundred feet of the ocean after take off from Hawaii (where the pilot clearly didn't know what they were doing), and the recent Alaskan Airlines 737-900 MAX incident where a door blew off mid flight because bolts were missing from assembly (partly the fault of Spirit Aerosystems Engineering, a company concerned first and foremost with DEI, and partly Alaskan Airlines' fault for having flown the new plane with emergency pressure warnings going off). There is no word if the flaming Atlas Air Boeing 747-8 cargo plane with a soft-ball size hole in its engine, or the Virgin Atlantic flight with missing wing screws, are relatable. What is certain is that United, Alaskan, Delta, Spirit, and Southwest, are more concerned with how the public views their DEI policies than they are the public's perception of safety. One should wonder why all of these supposedly competing companies chose to adopt the same slogans and imagery. Perhaps United chose the DEI route because their CEO dresses in drag, and wants 50% of new hires to “be women or people of color.” It just doesn't make any sense that when “qualification” is used as a baseline for hiring, defenders of DEI say that blacks, for example, have trouble becoming pilots because of education and discrimination, despite 3.4% of pilots being black already (out of a population of 14% US) - as if black people inherently are uneducated and legally restricted from becoming pilots in a predominantly white county. This itself is racism! When you look at people like Sam Britton and Pete Buttigieg it becomes clear we are dealing with an ideological cult that puts public safety last, even the perception of it, in favor of sexualized and racialized policies that violate all basic standards of equal protection in the United States.-FREE ARCHIVE (w. ads)SUBSCRIPTION ARCHIVEX / TWITTER FACEBOOKWEBSITEPAYPALCashApp: $rdgable EMAIL: rdgable@yahoo.com / TSTRadio@protonmail.comBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/tst-radio--5328407/support.

TOPIC: Air travel is, relatively speaking, very safe and efficient. When you look at people like Sam Britton and Pete Buttigieg it becomes clear we are dealing with an ideological cult that puts public safety last, even the perception of it, in favor of sexualized and racialized policies that violate all basic standards of equal protection in the United States.FREE ARCHIVE & RSS: https://www.spreaker.com/show/the-secret-teachingsTwitter: https://twitter.com/TST___RadioWEBSITE, BOOKS, RESUBSCRIBE YEARLY: http://thesecretteachings.infoPaypal: rdgable@yahoo.comCashApp: $rdgableBuy Me a Coffee: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/tstradioSUBSCRIBE TO NETWORK: http://aftermath.mediaEMAIL: rdgable@yahoo.com / TSTRadio@protonmail.com
