In our second to last episode of season 2, we've finally made it to "Strange New Worlds", and we're starting with season 1's "The Elysian Kingdom" - a controversial choice (at least in Jeff's eyes). None the less, we get to dive into why adults can't be silly, how we separate out the selfish part of parenting, as well as Jeff's many allusions to "Our Man Bashir" SHOW NOTES The Elysian Kingdom (episode) Music by Charles Michel

This week, Nathan, Richard, Todd and Adrian Phoon leave the peasants of Worksop to their mud-eating and get together to ask themselves the questions Is the Doctor as big a hero as Robin Hood? and Is Robin Hood even real?, only to come up with some very surprising answers. It's Robot of Sherwood. Notes and links There have been any number of film versions of Robin Hood, which is part of the point, but Richard is mostly reminded of the 1938 film The Adventures of Robin Hood, starring Errol Flynn as Robin, directed by Michael Curtiz, with an Oscar-winning score by Erich Wolfgang Korngold. Errol Flynn didn't go to Scots College in Sydney, Nathan: it was Sydney Church of England Grammar School, commonly known as Shore. He claimed to have been expelled from Shore for having sex with one of the ladies who worked in the laundry. Star Trek: The Next Generation did its fantasy Robin Hood episode in its triumphant fourth season. It guest starred John DeLancie as Q and was called Qpid. Here is an article in The Guardian from 2014, reporting the cuts made to this episode because of the beheading of two American journalists by members of Islamic State. We spend some time talking about Ben Miller's career. He's one half of Armstrong and Miller, of course, as well as doing two series of Death in Paradise. Paul Cornell's Primeval episode which featured Miller hunting a dinosaur was called Traitor Revealed. When this was shot, Tom Riley was also playing a young Leonardo Da Vinci in Da Vinci's Demons. He was also in St Trinian's 2: The Legend of Fritton's Gold (2009) with David Tennant and Jodie Whittaker. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Series 1, Episode 8. First broadcast on Thursday, 23 June 2022. A long time ago in a land far, far away, a beneficent king called Alex ruled over the kingdom of Trek, deciding which provinces would prosper and what each province would be known for. And so it came to pass that in the Province of Strange New Worlds, fun and entertainment would hold sway, and that from time to time even a heartwarming ending would be welcomed. And they all lived happily ever after, even the ones who had died. (Warning, some spoilers here for Picard Series 3.)
Episode 11: Family Series RATED PG-13 for Language How did the writing for Rukiya's story all come together? Was it really Spock's lifelong dream to be in Starfleet? How has Uhura's character grown since the 60s? What does La'An's family history reveal about her character? Did M'Benga pass out reports on what the crew did during “The Elysian Kingdom?” Listen as Ashlyn and Rhianna discuss the families of the Strange New World's Enterprise crew. SPOILER ALERT: Season 1 of Strange New Worlds and TNG's “Half a Life,” & “Pen Pals” TRIGGER WARNINGS: Family member deaths, & child illness. Does the nebula's ability to transform the crew into characters from his daughter's favorite book wind up being a great story twist or merely a lot of fun for the cast and crew?Bryan and Kristen put on their cloaks and head into an enchanted forest to see if this crucial episode of Strange New Worlds warrants a Trek, Marry, or Kill!If you're enjoying the show, consider rating and reviewing us on Apple Podcasts or right there in the Spotify app. You can keep tabs on all our grades by visiting trekmarrykillpod.com. EDITOR'S NOTE: Sorry for the delay! This episode was originally recorded at the end of July, 2022. The crew — Chris Clow, Rachael Clow, Cicero Holmes and Tyler Monaghan — break down the fairy tale jaunt that was "THE ELYSIAN KINGDOM," the eighth episode of STAR TREK: STRANGE NEW WORLDS! With the crew of the Enterprise in the grip of something that has turned the ship into a land of imagination, only a handful of officers remain unaffected. Listen in as we break down this one!

Golden Ferengiman Kregg Castillo returns to join Barm, Sean Davis and Jack to rejoice at the prospect of the first M'Benga-sode and the return of a holodeck-adjacent flight of fancy, a classic Trek staple. And Hemmer central! Not to say there aren't problems, however. Your boys have some ideas to improve the episode, like having Martin Short playing M'Benga's daughter. They also advocate for the return of the castrati, discuss the canonicity of Benny Russell, compare to real children's books, and delve deep into the Obi-Wan finale, and cap it off with some Moreville. Obi-M'benga-nobi lives.

Tread Perilously's annual Star Trek month concludes with the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds episode "The Elysian Kingdom" -- the lowest rated hour according to IMDb. While analyzing a nebula, the Enterprise becomes stuck and its crew re-assembled as characters from a fairy tale Dr. M'Benga reads to his daughter. Recast as the King from the story -- but still cognizant of who he really is -- M'Benga soon encounters Captain Pike as the cowardly chamberlain, Spock as an evil Wizard, Lt. Ortegas as the faithful knight, Lt. Noonien-Singh as the flighty, but friendly princess of a nearby realm, and Cadet Uhura as the wicked queen. Will M'Benga sort out why this is happening and why Chief Engineer Hemmer also maintains his sense of self? Erik ends up high on a vaccine reaction while Justin takes advantage of the situation via a joke well past its freshness date. Both also gush about the series, their favorite of modern Star Trek. A Sons of Anarchy detour also occurs. Erik learns a new term and works very hard to remember the name "Lawrence Tierney." Geography Corner turns into an inspection of LA-area revival theater restrooms. Pike's would-be smugness and excitement to be in space are examined. The problem of prestige TV comes up and the pair weep once more for Boromir.
The USS Enterprise becomes stuck in a nebula that is home to an alien consciousness that traps the crew in a fairy tale. Are you ready to explore this episode with us? Let's Go! In this Star Trek Reaction show edition, the crew of James, Joe, John and Josh talk about Strange New Worlds episodes 8 "The Elysian Kingdom" and episode 9 "All Those Who Wander". They get into all their thoughts about the each episode including, was episode 8 the weakest episode of the season, do we care that The Gorn have been reimagined, the loss of Hemmer, do we want to see more Original Series characters on the show, is Christopher Pike going to become the reluctant captain again, and much more.
The crew are transformed into the characters of the Elysian Kingdom, a book M'Benga has been reading to his daughter Rukiya who has also suddenly disappeared. M'Benga, and Hemmer, the only two crew members unaffected, must discover if there is a fairy behind this fairy tale, or is this just the effect of a failed experiment to save Rukiya's life. Yvette and Matthew are joined this week by Yvette's co-host on SyFy Sistas, Tamia Harper where Yvette and Tamia reflect on portrayals of black fatherhood on television and the importance of black love as represented in Strange New Worlds inspired by Deep Space Nine.
We're back with back-to-back reviews of this week's “All Those Who Wander” (a.ka. Star Trek: ALIENS) and the previous installment, the emotional fairy tale romp “The Elysian Kingdom.” We also mourn the loss of long-time Trek model maker Greg Jein and make another visit to the Replimat. So adjust your pattern buffers and listen now!
Before we get into the episode this week, we have some news items to share - including an update on an upcoming episode of Deep Space Pride where we get to interview Wil Wheaton! We also touch on SNW Episode 9, "Those Who Wander" - and discuss our hot take on some big reveals while it's timely. We then dive into our discussion of "The Elysian Kingdom." Despite the episode's lack of true significance since almost everyone forgets everything by the end, we both loved how the cast relished the characters they played in this episode. But we couldn't help but wonder - what is M'Benga going to do next season!?
“The Elysian Kingdom” While conducting a routine survey of the Jonisian Nebula, the Enterprise becomes stuck in a cloud of gas known as Debra. Soon the crew finds themselves as characters from The Kingdom of Elysian, the book which Doctor M'Benga regular reads to his daughter. To return everyone to normal, he and Hemmer, the only other person unaffected, must defeat Queen Neve. And in the end, M'Benga must also let his daughter go, so that she can live her life free of illness and explore space … with Debra. In this episode of Saddle Up! hosts C Bryan Jones and Matthew Rushing discuss “The Elysian Kingdom,” the eighth episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' inaugural season. We debate the choice to go to this Trek trope so early in the run of a series limited to 10 episodes per season, and delve into the resolution of the plotline involving Doctor M'enga's daughter Rukiya. And, as certified Niners, we discuss the choice to make Benny Russell a real person in the Star Trek universe. When Strange New Worlds serves up classic Star Trek corn, Dr. M'Benga is faced with a very serious decision about his daughter's future. But even though Debra has the crew trapped in a fairytale, it's Rukiya who gets to decide how this story will end. Is it weird to have a favorite Jeffries tube? Does production need to get value out of their gaunt and wan dummy? What's the most tragic corn preparation? It's the episode with a 12-hour theme song!Support the production of The Greatest Discovery.Music by Adam RaguseaFollow The Greatest Discovery on Twitter, and discuss the show using the hashtag #GreatestDiscovery! The Greatest Generation is now regularly streaming on Twitch.Facebook group | Subreddit | Discord | WikiSign up for our mailing list!

This week the Enterprise becomes a fairy tale, but there’s a surprisingly bittersweet ending. What’s in that nebula? Which Enterprise crew member is an elf from Lord of the Rings (easy one) and which one is Arrow (tougher one)? Also we assign you a good “Deep Space Nine” episode and Jason tries to trick people into watching a bad one. Host Scott McNulty and Jason Snell.

[Strange New Worlds review starts at 21:23] Tony and Laurie discuss the high-profile launch of Paramount+ in the UK and Ireland (and the less high-profile one in South Korea), as well as its upcoming expansion across Europe. Then they dig deep into a recent interview with Terry Matalas, where he talks about his love of TOS movies and his plans for Picard season 3 with the reunion of the TNG cast and as-yet-unnamed TNG guest stars. They take a look at a new Sonequa Martin-Green interview about Discovery with a hint of Tilly’s possible return, and clarify last week’s statement from Kate Mulgrew about live-action Janeway. Then they review the newest Strange New Worlds episode “The Elysian Kingdom,” which they both found fun but somewhat disappointing at the same time. They wrap things up with a look at a Star Trek fan at the Jan. 6 hearings and some surprising Star Trek mentions on a couple of non-Trek podcasts.
