The Shat Crew soars into DreamWorks territory for a film that melted even Gene's icy heart: How to Train Your Dragon. This animated fantasy wasn't just a box office smash—it was a coming-of-age story that redefined what kids' movies could be, combining sweeping visuals, smart storytelling, and a surprising emotional punch. Commissioned by Cheryl, this pick launches Big D into dad mode, marveling at the Viking village's parenting techniques and dragon integration programs, while Gene questions how the filmmakers got him gushing over a silent reptile with puppy eyes. Is How to Train Your Dragon the best non-Disney animated film of its generation? Could it secretly be about neurodiversity, pacifism, or simply learning to listen? And how did Toothless become one of the most iconic non-verbal characters in modern cinema? Whether you're a rider of Night Furies or just here for the dad feels, this episode will have you rethinking your emotional support dragons. Plot Summary:In How to Train Your Dragon (2010), a misfit Viking teen named Hiccup befriends a wounded dragon he names Toothless, challenging everything his warrior tribe believes about dragons. In this episode of DreamMachine, Arun and Patricia discuss about the 2025 DreamWorks action/adventure film How to Train Your Dragon, which is a live action remake of the 2010 animated film of the same name based on the book series by Cressida Cowell. In the island of Berk, a young teenage boy named Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III is the outcast of his village of Vikings who is unable to fight against the dragons that attack consistently. It doesn't help much that he's the son of the chief of Berk, Stoick the Vast. One night, he uses one of his inventions to shoot down a rare dragon called a Night Fury. When he finds it, he befriends it and calls it Toothless. Meanwhile, the children of Berk are being trained to fight dragons and Hiccup uses his skills and knowledge to take them down without killing them. The village believes that Hiccup is a real dragon fighter and praises him while Hiccup is keeping his secret. When the film premiered in theaters, it made $530 million dollars out of a $150 million dollar budget with mostly positive reviews. What did Arun and Patricia think of the film? Listen and find out.

Co-executive produced, written, and directed by Dean DeBlois, How To Train Your Dragon is the fantasy adventure film that is a shot-for-shot live-action remake of the 2010 animated film of the same name – itself loosely based on the 2003 novel by Cressida Cowell. On the rugged isle of Berk, a Viking boy named Hiccup defies centuries of tradition by befriending a dragon named Toothless. However, when an ancient threat emerges that endangers both species, Hiccup's friendship with Toothless becomes the key to forging a new future. Together, they must navigate the delicate path toward peace, soaring beyond the boundaries of their worlds and redefining what it means to be a hero and a leader. We break down all things re-imagining the animated film into live-action, the cast, the look of the dragons, and how this version does or doesn't differ from its previous version.
