Star Trek IV – The Voyage Home, Teil 17: 400 Tonnen Wal, ein beleidigter Spock & klingonischer Gegenwind! Kirk will nur schnell zurück ins 23.

John Hudson and I take on a classic Blaxploitation film!   TRUCK TURNER (1974) stars the great Isaac Hayes as the titular character, a modern-day bounty hunter in Los Angeles. Along with his partner he tracks down people for bail bondsmen which is a far more dangerous job than you might expect. Sadly, this is the only lead role Hayes was ever afforded and it was offered to him so the producers could also get him to provide the film's score. Luckily for fans, he handles both creative opportunities well. In fact, I find the music he supplies for this film to be superior to his Oscar winning SHAFT score. Check it out and let us know what you think. There has been an ongoing conversation about the best Blaxploitation films for decades but nearly every fan will put this film in their top five. It plays like a western set in the 1970's with bad guys getting their comeuppance in suitable, violent ways. The story is fast paced and exciting with plenty of colorful characters peppering the trail Truck follows while dealing with scumbags. The film was originally written for a very different cast in mind but, once the change was made, the collaborative spirit of the production made for a satisfying film. Besides Hayes as Mack ‘Truck' Turner the cast is stacked with excellent character actors such as Scatman Crothers, Charles Cyphers, Dick Miller, Sam Lewis and a brilliant villain role for the great Yaphet Kotto. Plus, if you ever wondered what it would be like to see Lt. Uhura from Star Trek whip a stable of prostitutes into line, this is your chance. Whew! If you have any comments about this movie or any other film we've covered on the show thebloodypit@gmail.com is the place to send them. Thank you for listening and we'll be back soon.

#StarTrek #StarTrekIV #TheVoyageHome #DiscoveryPanel #Kirk #Spock #Scotty #GillianTaylor #Chekov #Sulu #Uhura #ILM #DonPeterman #Beamen #Transporter #Buckelwale #MissionDistrict #SanFrancisco #StarTrekPodcast

The Enterprise D is tooling along like it does when they jolt out of warp and find themselves face-to-face with a big ass Dyson Sphere! What's a Dyson Sphere you ask? It's a giant shell that encompasses a star, creating a whole new environment for people to inhabit. As crazy as that sounds, the crew finds something even crazier on the surface of the sphere--the wreck of an old Starfleet vessel, the Janolan, and it's showing signs of life! Riker, Geordi, and Worf beam over to find someone stored in the old ship's transporter. Well saints be praised, it's Montgomery Scott! That's right! Scotty! He was chief engineer of the original Enterprise, no bloody A, B, C, or D! Time to break out the booze and the bagpipes! Or is it? Seems being 75 years out of time is making our favorite Scot feel unmoored and without purpose. That is until Picard asks Geordi to take Scotty to the Janolan to recover some ship's logs on the Dyson Sphere. Good thing, too, because the Enterprise D suddenly finds themselves trapped inside the thing with no way out! Will Scotty and Geordi figure out a way to free the Enterprise? Will Scotty find a new life in the 24th century? Will someone please tell us what happened to Uhura? As a diverse crew faced alien planets and tackled ethical questions audience numbers dwindled and cancellation loomed.

Dean Karayanis, former Rush Limbaugh staffer and New York Sun columnist, steps in for Derek Hunter. The show digs into the 2026 war with Iran, a critique of media "elites," and a reflection on the shifting tides of American foreign policy and cultural resilience. The New York Times' skepticism regarding Israel's "decapitation" strategy against Iranian leadership is debunked with historical parallels to the fall of the Nazi regime. Dean pulls no punches on the resignation of National Counterterrorism Center Director Joe Kent, the "trust policies" of Fairfax County that he argues are endangering citizens, and the curious silence of the "Arab Street" as Iran's proxies face dismantling. The episode rounds out with a cultural critique — moving from the "woke" re-branding of Texas Democrats to the aspirational, colorblind philosophy of Star Trek's original series. It's a masterclass in connecting historical precedent to the chaotic reality of 2026. The Iran Conflict: Why "decapitating" leadership works and why the media is desperate to find "pragmatic" terrorists. NATO & The "Ugly American": A look at France and Ireland's critiques of U.S. policy and why Dean agrees with Lord Palmerston that nations have no permanent allies, just permanent interests. Domestic Security: The tragic murder of Stephanie Minter and the "trust policies" hampering law enforcement. Star Trek Philosophy: What Kirk, Uhura, and Lincoln can teach us about not fearing words in a hypersensitive age.

The Savage Curtain (Star Trek: The Original Series (TOS), S3 E22) was recommended by Kaleb, he/him, who said: So, other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how did you enjoy the deathmatch? This is always a good episode to sit down with a friend and just take the absolute piss out of; it's an episode that has a strangely high amount of warp cores given how much I like it.The awful Lincoln makeup, mischaracterizing my favorite historical war criminal, and the comment to Uhura (which I know was trying to Make A Point, but kinda just makes me go “oh god Uhura, darling, if you wanna start punching I'm behind you all the way”).Relatedly, though, I actually really like how Lincoln is characterized- it might just be because I'm from the same area, but I've always had a soft spot for the guy. In this episode, he has both admirable qualities and also prompts my above warp core, as would most guys from the 1800s.I think the aliens are really cool looking, kinda like the Horta where their biology is so different from humans, especially given that they're filling the “advanced culture fucking with us for philosophical reasons” role usually given to disembodied beings or some beautiful twink. It's ridiculous and stupid and I love it so much. The Savage Curtain first aired on March 7, 1969, written by story by Gene Roddenberry, teleplay by Gene Roddenberry and Arthur Heinemann, and directed by Herschel DaughertyAliens force Kirk and Spock to battle illusionary villains in a test of good versus evil.[2]The Joy of Trek is hosted by Khaki & Kay, with editing & production by Chief Engineer Greg and music by Fox Amoore (Bandcamp | Bluesky)Send us your recommendations, or support us on Patreon.Find us at joyoftrek.com · Twitter · Facebook

When you really get down to it, putting the legendary villain of Khan aside, there's a real argument to be made that THISis the best of all Star Trek films. How incredible is this cold open with Captain Sulu? Did they drop the storyline of Scotty and Uhura sleeping together from the last movie? How great is it seeing Shatner fight himself in the prison break scene? Did Christopher Plummer's character ever read anyone other than Shakespeare? And we can all agree that the signatures at the end are great? PLUS: A history of the importance of various Dee Vee Dee extras!  Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country stars William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, DeForest Kelley, James Doohan, Walter Koenig, Nichelle Nichols, George Takei, Kim Cattrall, Mark Lenard, Grace Lee Whitney, Bock Peters, Kurtwood Smith, David Warner, Christopher Plummer, and Michael Dorn as Colonel Worf; directed by Nicholas Meyer. The Nexus is a WHM podcast where the guys futilely go through two Star Trek series at the same time. Thank you so much for continuing to support our family of shows—we couldn't do it without you! We know you have lots of options for pods and we're super-stoked you chose to spend some time with us—thanks again! Cover art by Felipe Sobreiro.

In this review of Strange New Worlds Season 3, Episode 9, "Terrarium," we explore a classic Star Trek-inspired narrative that deeply challenges our understanding of survival as Ortegas faces being stranded with a Gorn. We delve into Ortegas's surprising bond with the Gorn, Uhura's critical yet controversial decisions, the Metrons' appearance and their assessment of humanity, and numerous Trekkie easter eggs including references to Captain Matt Decker. As a spiritual remake and prequel to "Arena," "Terrarium" delivers the heart and understanding synonymous with Star Trek while maintaining its unique identity. #Terrarium #TheEnemy #Darmok #Arena #Dawn

Anika and Liz get sucked into a wormhole and trapped on a moon orbiting a gas giant, which is actually pretty standard when you're adults with jobs trying to organise a board game night. We're discussing Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, season 3, episode 9, "Terrarium", an episode which comes so close to being good before it snatches defeat from the jaws of victory.  "We're going to give you the stories you've been asking for since season 1, and then we're gonna end it with a twist that makes it all totally meaningless! Hurray!" Good news, Akiva Goldsman finally watched "Arena"! Next question, did he, um, understand it?  Anika has notes on Metron experiment design The AUDACITY of SNW criticising the Gorn for ableism This was an opportunity to let Uhura become a more complex and flawed character, but unfortunately Pike is bad at his job (and so are the writers) Is La'an actually psychologically fit for starship duty?  Why are we making fun of Spock's weight? Why is this whole season so dedicated to bullying Spock?  Endangering 4,000 people including children: that's the Christopher Pike way But seriously, why does Uhura have sole responsibility for this problem? Why is Pike setting her up to fail?

Ortegas quickly discovers that a female Gorn pilot is also stranded, but the Gorn saves and protects Ortegas from the moon's dangers. With heavy hearts, Anika and Liz discuss "Four and a Half Vulcans", the worst episode of Star Trek's streaming era, and possibly one of the top five worst episodes of Star Trek ever. So that's fun.  Liz keeps returning to the question, "Is this worse than 'Code of Honor'?" "I understand that this is meant to be funny."  Genetics and hair don't work like that "I felt disrespected as a viewer." The whole "feminist career women can't cook, amiright?" trope was tired when they did it with Janeway in the '90s and it's more tired with Chapel and Batel now Anika: the only person on the whole internet watching "Amok Time" for the Spock/Chapel Comedy mind control rape (for the second time in a season) Uhura this season generally has whatever personality is required for the plot, but using her for TERF propaganda about groomers is unforgivable Romula'an is almost a good storyline, provided you don't know anything about genetics, Romulans or how "Tomorrow, Tomorrow and Tomorrow" went Why is Marie's professional future wrapped up in a plot from I Love Lucy? Pike uses Marie's chronic condition to try to sabotage her career, because apparently their relationship is now a horror story from r/BestofRedditorUpdates You have to be really incompetent to come up with a dance-off that we hate this much!

Strange New Worlds "Through the Lens of Time" takes us to the halfway point already...can you believe it? When Chapel, Dr. Korby, Spock, La'an, Uhura, Ensign Gambel and Beto Ortegas beam down to start work on an archeological dig, things go awry quickly. Locked inside what appears to be a temple or palace, the crew finds themselves separated with no way out. Strange New Worlds brings us back to horror meets science fiction within incredibly intense and creepy episode as the away team attempts to find their way out without ending up like the skeletons the find when they first enter the structure. We got some serious vibes from a familiar yet terrifying science fiction/horror movie from the 90s starring Sam Neil!
