Matt and Travis chat a third home loss in a row and chat the bad, the not so bad, and the kinda sorta not bad but yikes. And then they try to turn all of that into positives! Along the way we talk the Frauen, VfBII, VfBFCB, Sebastian, the Pokal, and a whole bunch of other things. Wheee!
Less than a month from (preseason) Clippers basketball, WHEEE! Adam, Will, and Chuck talk Norm Powell's role on a defensive-minded Clippers team, react to the Clippers City Edition jerseys, wonder what the 50/50 club would be in NBA terms, and try to predict team leaders in major stat categories for next season
Answer: The blowy thing goes WHOOSH and the invisible gas that keeps us all alive goes WHEEE and the racey thing stays put. And later, if you have done the math right, you maybe drive around in circles better than everyone! Alternate, more grown-up answer: physics and stuff. This show's format rotates weekly, because squirrel. This week's approach is called “Jeff Teaches Sam a Thing.” Jeff knows a lot about a subject—in this case, how race teams use indoor wind to develop aerodynamic downforce—and Sam asks questions. Warning: We get lightly tech-nerdy here. Related Trivia: Every host of this show is a father. And so I ask you fine people, in the name of Bernoulli and Pocahontas and all that is holy, tell me, what color is the wind? Blew! Get it? DAD JOKE! (If any of you actually read these episode descriptions, please email INTCpod@gmail.com and let Sam know. It gets lonely at this keyboard.) Ross is off this week. We miss him. In other words, we tell racing stories and leave out the boring parts. Ross Bentley is a former IndyCar driver and an internationally renowned performance coach and author. Jeff Braun is a championship-winning race engineer. Sam Smith is an award-winning journalist and a former executive editor of Road & Track magazine. Together, we explore the emotion at the heart of the machine. We don't love racing for the nuts and bolts—we love it for what it asks of the bag of meat at the wheel. New episodes every Tuesday.
And boy is it ever cruel! The subtitle there refers to the plot climax of this one, but also to season seven as a whole. The entire thing is built on pain being the key to reality, and doesn't that just suck! Like, massively! It sucks for Sam, it sucks for Dean, and it sucks for all of us! But we shall endure. :'D We lose Cas right at the start, and then Dean carries his coat away like a widow leaving a soldier's funeral with a flag, and that sets the stage for his grief and guilt for the first long segment of the season. Meanwhile, Sam's just not coping well with his smashed walls and resurfacing Hell trauma, and using Dean's technique of repressing and denying is really, really not working for him. So, bring on the pain and losses and gooey jerks who are this season's Big Bad-- a metaphor for capitalism. Wheee. LINKS! Hiii, Vortex! What an ep this is. Today, Elle's recent deviation from a daily spiritual practice is our launching pad. We get into the nuanced lessons this time of "getting off track" has taught her, and the pressure we put on ourselves to remain militantly consistent with our practices. Specifically, we examine what a "spiritual practice" actually is - IS it sitting on the mat in meditation every day? Or can that definition be expanded? We also speak to our cyclical nature as humans and practicing self-forgiveness in seasons where consistency wanes. A rather large and wild tangent also inhabits the dead center of this episode, in which we unpack cancel culture, particularly around the recent Colleen Ballinger scandal that's taken the Youtube world by storm. We wrap it all back around by returning to nuance as the centerpiece of it all, and conclude that nothing - from committing to a daily spiritual practice to cancelling a Youtube star - is black and white. Wheee, thanks for coming along for the ride! We love ya! Vortex out. Husband and Wife cover Psalms 87 - 89[[Support our Campaign to raise funds for our live broadcast equipment]] https://giveb.co/s/YOmP73Psalm 87: The Privileges of Dwelling in Zion. Starts, "His Foundation is in the Holy Mountains." This psalm describes Jerusalem as the center of the world and is classified as one of the Songs of Zion. It's super short but packs a punch in mentioning Rahab, a mystical, demonic, chaotic, multi-headed sea-dragon representative of either The Abyss or Egypt. Forget psalms. We wanna learn more about this guy!Psalm 88: A Prayer for Mercy and Deliverance from Death. Starts, "O LORD God of my salvation, I have cried day and night before thee." It was written by Heman the Ezrahite, a wise man from the time of King Solomon. This psalm is often assumed to be a Sick Psalm and stands alone for its unrelieved gloom and hopeless sorrow. So naturally, Wife wants it carved on her gravestone. Psalm 89: God's Covenant with David. Starts, "I will sing of the mercies of the LORD forever." Written by Ethan the Ezrahite, a wise man from the time of King Solomon. This psalm is sometimes referred to as a Covenant Psalm, and indeed, it goes on for a full page about how awesome God is. He won in every single situation and came out smelling like the good guy. Wheee was the loss? The sacrifice? https://twitter.com/StargatePioneer/status/1568329487648948225 Tom Cruise's recklessness in destroying the hypersonic Darkstar experimental plane in Top Gun Maverick was at least dereliction of duty and most likely Improper Hazarding of Aircraft. His ego and vanity did not match the reasoning. The personnel would have just been transferred https://twitter.com/StargatePioneer/status/1568331101856301059 The scene in Tom Gun Maverick between Tom Cruise and Ed Harris was brilliant calling back to Ed's John Glenn role in The Right Stuff. Ed tells Tom he should be a 2 star Admiral or a Senator. Glenn became an Ohio Senator and Ed was wearing 2 stars in the scene. https://twitter.com/StargatePioneer/status/1568331823372967937 The lack of F-35's at Top Gun in Top Gun Maverick is … worrisome. https://twitter.com/StargatePioneer/status/1568333013087571969 I enjoyed Jon Hamm as Admiral “Cyclone” Simpson and Charles Parnell as Adm “Warlock” Bates in Top Gun Maverick but it would have been nice seeing Slider, Merlin or Wolfman from the 86 movie. Heck a nod to Ironside/Jester or Skerritt/Viper would have been nice too. https://twitter.com/StargatePioneer/status/1568333895728259079 The strike package selection for the mission in Top Gun was horrifying. The United States military possesses capabilities better suited for the job with less risk. Also the lack of consideration for human casualties at the facility is extremely unrealistic. https://twitter.com/StargatePioneer/status/1568334446033502210 The addition of Jennifer Connelly as Penny in Top Gun Maverick was a welcome sight and a fantastic tie to the 86 film. I loved the world building there. Although her car's similarity to Charlie's was not needed at all. https://twitter.com/StargatePioneer/status/1568335007097167874 The lack of a bar serenade in Top Gun Maverick was disappointing. Also the lack of flirting between Rooster and anyone was a missed opportunity for future chapters in the story. I believe this was a stupid decision by Tom Cruise to keep the attention on himself. https://twitter.com/StargatePioneer/status/1568335674020880387 Meg Ryan's backstory in Top Gun Maverick was disappointing. Again, I believe this was done by Tom Cruise to keep the attention on himself. https://twitter.com/StargatePioneer/status/1568336210577301508 I'm struggling to understand how Hangman graduated top of his Top Gun class in Too Gun Maverick. His tactics and non team playing mindset would have gotten him low marks by the instructors. https://twitter.com/StargatePioneer/status/1568337040160202753 Why the enemy's 5th Generation fighters couldn't engage the F-18 strike package in Top Gun Maverick with Beyond Visual Range weapons is beyond me. That's one of the keys for 5th Generation fighters. https://twitter.com/StargatePioneer/status/1568338030217289729 Technically Rooster's helicopter shoot down in Top Gun Maverick is an air to air kill which puts him on par with Hangman. https://twitter.com/StargatePioneer/status/1568338249260613639 Let's not even start about Tom Cruise flying the F-14 in Top Gun Maverick. Just. No. But it was a deep good part of the film. https://twitter.com/StargatePioneer/status/1568338906180976642 Seeing Val Kilmer in Top Gun Maverick made up for a lot of what's wrong in the film. It was well done with the exception of having the Pacific Fleet Commander not able to talk. He would be taken off of active duty. And we all know Iceman is the better pilot anyway. Sorry Tom. https://twitter.com/StargatePioneer/status/1568339340677316608 Having Penny not in the bar when Tom Cruise returned from the mission in Top Gun Maverick was unnecessary. I'm not really sure what the point to that was. https://twitter.com/StargatePioneer/status/1568339774372720640 For Top Gun III how about we see Rooster and Phoenix instruct Amelia at Top Gun? Oh. And no Tom Cruise please.

I'll begin this week by apologizing for the short length of this one, but I've had a migraine for the last three days and it was either record or miss my posting date... luckily I've typed up what serves as a nice summary of this one about three years ago, and my general thoughts on it. You can read that here (it's pretty short for an episode post for me, too). This episode is a turning point for both Sam and Dean, though. It's also got a nice “nothing stays locked up forever” reminder with Gordon getting out of jail. Dean was ready to kill him after 2.10 and Sam thought he found a better way to deal with him, but even Sam now understands that Gordon will never stop trying to kill them. He didn't even have to become *a literal monster* for Sam to accept it was an “us or him” situation, but that definitely helped in the final confrontation. I still think Sam's shifting attitude adds to the s3-s4 arc of him gradually going to the dark side too. For Dean, it takes Sam's plea to “drop the act” he's putting on, the false bravado Dean's been using to cover his own terror about his rapidly approaching fate. Which... is Sam neatly explaining what we all mean by “performing Dean.” While Sam might know there's terror lurking under Dean's “everything's fine!” mask, he's not aware of the even larger pool of self-worth issues Dean is even more terrified to confront, and his own feelings about what compelled him to make that deal in the first place. But that's coming up over the next few episodes. Wheee! So we're officially here, the first episode that I had to stop and stare at a wall for a few minutes and then immediately go back and watch it again. I had been enjoying the show before this. It felt like a fun little adventure story about chasing a mysterious monster that had altered their lives forever, seeking revenge and answers and trying to find their father. But this episode? This changed things for me, far more than Home even did. Maybe I just have a thing for Capital-D Death, in a cosmic sense. Then again, so much of later canon about God and faith and life and death (and Death) only serves to make this episode stronger in retrospect. And in some ways way more painful! Wheee! >.> I've personally started to think of this episode as Chuck having discovered the Trolley Problem and wondering how to make it work as an overall life choice. Though he takes it to entirely new levels, and had been since the beginning of creation. This week we get to talk about a lot of firsts... the first time we get to see Sam speak to John in canon! The first time we meet Meg! The first time Dean is denied a slice of pie! Wheee! (and I only get a little bit mad about the finale like... twice... maybe three times... >.>) Seriously though, there is a lot going on in this episode, big themes that will carry throughout the series about sacrifice, family, and what we do for selfish reasons versus selfless reasons. Have some fun links! I should probably post an apple pie recipe too, but my grandmother's ghost would probably throttle me for publishing it anywhere :'D My tag for this episode The Superwiki page for this episode --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/spngeorg/support

Sit back, relax and enjoy this super awesome episode that our husbands thought we'd never reach. Ugh, husbands. Follow us on the socials, or send us your parenting stories to momvoicepod@gmail.com! We made it to 100 episodes of sharing what to know and where to go in Metro Detroit. Wheee! There are a few major development projects in downtown we break down, as well as rising rents. A woman who had a baby in the Macomb County Jail is suing as guards apparently ignored her pleas to go to the hospital. The Rosa Parks home is for sale in an auction. And, Forman Mills is opening in Dearborn.
This is podcast 100! Wheee! Today I'm going to talk about completion. Some of my podcasts are about concrete actions you can take to get more organized or use your time better. A lot of them are about the concepts that underlie these actions. This podcast is about time management, productivity, procrastination, decluttering, organizing, self management and more. In each episode I talk about challenges and problems in those areas and give you great ideas on how to overcome them. Sometimes I offer practical suggestions. Sometimes I talk about why we humans behave the way we do and how you can develop your own “hacks” to outsmart yourself. Please leave a rating or review if you like the show! Wheee! We made it to 40 episodes! Pretty cool. In this week's show, I detail my hunt for a new mind mapping program. Freemind has been great to me over the years, but I needed something more. And... I think I've found it.
We are dedicating September (Kimi’s birthday month!) to bringing more EASE to your life. We have declared September as Hook Up Your Future Self Month! This is a 3-part series is dedicated to helping you create more awareness, ease, and peace of mind in your life. At Best Life Ever, we talk a lot about “hooking up your future selves”. We encourage our clients to look for ways to make life easier for the tired, overwhelmed, or burned out future versions of themselves, but also as a way to increase efficiency and productivity and supercharge your life. In today’s episode, we talk about HUYFS basics. Managing dinner-time hangriness by throwing a meal in a crock pot that morning, filling up your gas tank on the weekend instead of running on empty during the busier work week, basically anything you can do to prep and plan ahead for that weary, fated future you. The questions your future self wants you to ask: How can I make my life easier? What repeating challenges do I see? What is on the horizon? What is coming up that I can take care of farther in advance than usual? Self care! Wheee! You’re next ;) What tasks can I batch and what can I do or purchase in bulk? Next week, we’ll cover HUYFS 201. We want you to try these basics for a week, let us know how it goes, and then we’ll have another episode for you on this same topic next Sunday! Please help us reach more ears! Leave us an itunes review! https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/best-life-ever/id1109233919
What a week of events we’ve had! Jill Thompson, Lucy Knisley and Free Comic Book Day are all discussed here. Wheee!
We revisit Saw with our first guest, Kristin Sorhus-Hafen - who doesn't normally do horror, and is watching it for the first time. Wheee!
Help support this podcast! >> As Joaquin Phoenix once said, "I'M STILL HERE." Mockumentary and hip-hop career to follow shortly. (Seriously, though, I've realized I turn out new episodes about every 10 days instead of strictly weekly. I hope that is okay with you.) Either way, welcome to Episode 009 of the "Write Now" podcast. Small note: If my voice sounds weird in this episode, it is because I have both a new microphone and a head cold. Life is fun like that. In order to say "yes" to writing, you have to say "no" to other stuff. When we were little, our teachers told us, "You can be anything!" But my ambitious little brain interpreted that to mean, "You can be everything!" Which is simply not true. Because despite our best efforts, there are only 24 hours in a day. And we can only fill those 24 hours with 24 hours worth of activity, from sleeping to going to work, cooking, driving the kids to clarinet lessons, reading, grocery shopping, tuning up your bicycle, rewatching all 144 episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, washing behind your ears, going to church meetings, and yes, writing. So if you're going to say "yes" to writing... well, sometimes that means saying "no" to other stuff. Fun stuff. Important stuff. Stuff society deems essential. And that can be hard. You are enough. When we start to examine our limits, we begin to feel... well. Kinda crappy. Kinda small. Kinda worthless. We realize we can't do everything we want to do. We realize we have limits, that we'll never be smart enough or fast enough or strong enough to do it all. But while you can't do everything, you can do anything. You have the power to choose how you spend your time. You have all the permission you need to call yourself a writer. You are a whole person, however broken you might feel, and I want to reassure you that whatever that "anything" is that you want to do? You are enough to do it. So the question becomes -- what are you willing to sacrifice for your art? What can you do within the limits you've been given? The book of the week. When I was instructed to read The Best Yes by Lysa TerKeurst for a women's group that I belong to, I'm kind of embarrassed to admit I rolled my eyes. I don't usually read a lot of self-help books, and the cover of this one was just so... Pinterest-y. But as I read through this book (which has a Christian bent to it, if that turns you on or off to it), I realized -- I needed help. I was overstressed, overbooked, overwhelmed, and racked by guilt. In short, things were LESS THAN OPTIMAL. I'm not going to say this book fixed me or changed my life, but it did help me to see more clearly all of the self-destructive things I do to myself when I say "yes" to too many things out of a people-pleasing mindset, and it reminded me that it's OK to prioritize my commitments and (kindly, graciously) say "no" to requests. Keep up-to-date with my reading exploits on Goodreads. Get email'd! I'll send you interesting emails when you least expect it. Don't worry, I too believe spam is evil. Sign up to get email updates from me. >> Submit a question. GUYS I have a question this week! It's from a smart, wonderful person who wished to remain anonymous. And, coincidentally, it's about work/life/reading/writing balance. Submit a question when you visit my contact page and type out your thoughts. You can also email me at hello [at] sarahwerner [dot] com. I can't wait to hear from you. Listen to the full podcast. You can listen to the full podcast episode using the controls at the beginning of this post. I am also now on Stitcher! So if that's your thing, check out the "Write Now" podcast there. Or find it on iTunes! >> (And subscribe!) Wheee! Tell me your thoughts. What are you willing to sacrifice for your art?

Last week we read The Cat in the Hat. That was so much fun that we had to do another Dr. Suess. Allow us to present: Fox in Socks! As easy as last week's was to read, this book is absolute disaster of a tongue twister. WHEEE!! Rachel & Sam Read a Story is about the fun of reading children's books, and also about how little sense these books make when you read them 20 years later. We read the books aloud and make fun of them while we do. Enjoy!

Jaye is back! Wheee! In this episode, Jaye of www.artquiltmaker.com and I talk about the design principle "Balance." She gives us descriptions of a variety of types of balance and addresses some issues with each one, as well as tips for creating balance in your own quilts. Background information, resource recommendations, and the homework can be found on Jaye's blog at www.artquiltmaker.com. Also mentioned in this episode: YouTube video on machine sewing hexagons in rows, sent to me by listener Mary: http://youtu.be/CQG0V42O0fI.
Wheee! The long-awaited day has finally arrived! In this episode, I launch a new, on-going segment featuring Artquiltmaker blogger Jaye Lapachet. Jaye and I have been working on this for *months* so I'm absolutely ecstatic to finally be able to share it with you. Learn a little bit more about design principles and elements with Jaye and I, starting with Design 101 in this episode. Also, I announce the winner of the summer quarter stash mystery challenge (yay!) and the last quarter's theme. Plus, Sandy Update and Listener Feedback. Can it get any better than this? Visit Jaye's blog at http://artquiltmaker.com/blog. Check out the Quilting for the Rest of Us Flickr group for pics of the stash mystery challenge. (I'll get the rest up next week.)
