And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.   • • • Titus 2:11-14 NIV 11 For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. 12 It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, 13 while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, 14 who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.   • • • 1. Grace of God defined. The New Testament word for“grace” means “favor, blessing, or kindness.” Grace is God choosing to bless us rather than curse us as our sin deserves. God's grace is His benevolence to the undeserved.   • • • 2. Understanding the Grace of God. Faithfulness

This week, Pastor Dave preaches on God's total sovereignty over all creation and over our life. We may plan our way but the Lord establishes our steps. God's sovereignty should provoke us to go to Him in prayer, have hope in His power, and ultimately draw us to run to Him for our salvation.

Who is God? The nature and the character of God form the foundation of how we view Him, so it is integral that we, as Christians, understand what God says about Himself. Ava Pennington says that without understanding this, a Christian's foundation is shaky and runs the risk of moving in the wrong direction. Ava is a Bible teacher, author, and speaker who has spent tremendous time studying the many names and attributes of God. She emphasizes studying who God says He is, not what the world says He is or who we think He should be. In her devotional, Reflections on the Name of God, she asks three key questions: what does God say about Himself, how do God's attributes change our relationship with Him, and how does it change our relationships with other people? TAKEAWAYS We often approach God based on who we THINK He should be, not who He IS When we use Jesus's name in prayer, we should do so with the utmost reverence and respect Why not take God at His own Word? Dr. JB Hixson Mary welcomes back JB Hixson to explore the topic of the attributes of God and how the knowledge of the One we worship gives us stability, wisdom, and an understanding of Whom we worship. The church often misrepresents God, and yet how can that be with all the revealed knowledge available to us in the Scriptures? And yet even knowing that He is perfect in all His ways, just, righteous and unchanging, we still find ways to lean on our own understanding in so many of OUR ways. In fact, the more we understand His nature, the more we fall on our knees in gratitude that He has provided a way to be reconciled to Him, despite the fact that we are fallen and completely opposite of Him in our natural selves. In fact, the more we know Him the more this verse becomes astonishing: “…His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.” (1Peter 1:4).
