They explore how to discern messages from angels, and whether Spock's sacrifice in Star Trek reflects John 15:13. Other questions include whether Martin Luther sought self-justification, and how to respond to criticisms of Catholic parish events like gambling nights. The King James Version was the dominant translation of the Bible for over 3 centuries. It shaped how a multitiude of Christians view the scriptures. It also had a tremendous impact on the English language and how it is written. The real question is, why? Does it still have relevance today? Thee and Thous may have been replaced in the modern vernacular but is it still Sola Scriptura? Bael and Riff investigate.

Jason then addresses some questions from our patrons about the issue of Sola Scriptura.
Some believe the idea that God still speaks to people today threatens the Reformed idea of "Sola Scriptura" (Scripture alone). CULTIVATING SAINTS, SAGES, AND STATESMEN THROUGH THE GREAT TRADITION OF CHRISTENDOMIn this episode, Joshua Charles unveils how he concluded—even while he was still a protestant—that "sola scriptura" (or "Scripture alone") was a false doctrine. He explains how he reached this conclusion in two primary ways: he recognized "sola scriptura" was both logically incoherent, and inconsistent with the sacred history recounted in the Bible itself. To his shock and amazement, his intuitions were ultimately confirmed by a famous and well-respected protestant teacher and theologian who advocated "sola scriptura."VISIT OUR WEBSITEhttps://eternalchristendom.com/BECOME A PATRON OF THE GREAT TRADITIONHelp us continue to dig into the Great Tradition; produce beautiful, substantive content; and gift these treasures to cultural orphans around the world for free:https://eternalchristendom.com/become-a-patron/Have your patronage DOUBLED thanks to a generous $50,000 matching gift from a patron:https://donorbox.org/eternal-christendom-double-your-impactEXCLUSIVE DISCOUNTS AT ETERNAL CHRISTENDOM BOOKSTOREhttps://eternalchristendom.com/bookstore/CONNECT ON SOCIAL MEDIAX: https://twitter.com/JoshuaTCharlesFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/joshuatcharles/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/joshuatcharles/DIVE DEEPERCheck out Eternal Christendom's "Becoming Catholic," where you'll find hundreds of thousands of words of free content (as big as the Bible!) in the form of Articles, Quote Archives, and Study Banks to help you become, remain, and deepen your life as a Catholic:https://eternalchristendom.com/becoming-catholic/EPISODE CHAPTERS00:00 - Introduction03:45 - The Right Definition of "Sola Scriptura"07:59 - Objection 1: Logically Incoherent12:01 - Objection 2: Inconsistent with Sacred History20:25 - My Intuitions Confirmed by a Protestant (RC Sproul)40:17 - ConclusionLISTEN ON APPLEhttps://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/eternal-christendom-podcast/id1725000526LISTEN ON SPOTIFYhttps://open.spotify.com/show/3HoTTco6oJtApc21ggVevu
Today, we're discussing the recent passing of Pope Francis. As a Protestant, I don't hold to Catholic doctrine, and I've had some serious theological issues with the papacy—but that doesn't mean I won't stop to reflect when someone steps into eternity. In this episode, I'm praying for Pope Francis' soul and hoping he had a deathbed conversion—because no one is beyond God's reach. I also hope Catholics choose a biblical pope next time, not one more interested in pleasing the world than honoring the Word. We'll talk about the things he did right—his care for the poor and moments of humility. But we'll also look at the dangerous things he got wrong:Promoting open borders that have devastated countries and erased traditionSaying all religions worship the same God (they don't)Claiming the human heart is good (the Bible says it's deceitful above all things)Ignoring original sin and the fallen nature of manThis is a respectful but honest take on a figure who meant a lot to many—but who, like all of us, needed Christ above all.--https://noblegoldinvestments.com/

So, how do you address a bad filter in your life when you find it? A “bad filter,” you might say? What's a bad filter? Yes, that's when someone—a church, a denomination, a pastor, a teacher—occupies spiritual space between you and the Word of God…and that intermediary wrongly handles, distorts, or ignores truth from the Word. This has been happening since the time of Paul and his pointing out what a “different gospel” was about. And that's been true from then until today. Join Kevin as we dive into the topic of “the Word of God and bad filters.” // Download this episode's Application & Action questions and PDF transcript at whitestone.org.
Pastor Nate Akin preaching from Psalm 19:7-11 on April 13th, 2025 at Oakhurst Baptist Church in Charlotte, NC.
What happens when we examine the foundational Protestant doctrine of Sola Scriptura through an Orthodox Christian lens? This thought-provoking seminar challenges the notion that Scripture alone is the final authority for Christians by examining biblical, historical, and theological evidence to the contrary.Ben (Luigi), a former Protestant pastor's son who later embraced Reformed theology before finding his home in Orthodox Christianity, brings both personal experience and scholarly depth to this complex subject. With remarkable clarity, Luigi demonstrates how Scripture itself affirms the authority of oral tradition alongside written texts, pointing to passages where Jesus and the apostles relied on extrabiblical traditions as binding and authoritative. The seminar explores how the early Church resolved doctrinal disputes through councils rather than individual interpretation, establishing a pattern that continued through the ecumenical councils which defined essential Christian doctrines. Ben tackles the challenging "canon conundrum" – how Protestants must rely on Church authority to establish which books belong in the Bible while simultaneously rejecting that same authority in matters of interpretation and practice.Drawing from Church Fathers like St. Basil and St. Irenaeus, Ben reveals how the earliest Christians viewed Scripture and Tradition not as competing authorities but as complementary expressions of divine revelation. Even Protestant scholars acknowledge that the early Church didn't limit "inspiration" to canonical writings alone.Whether you're an Orthodox Christian seeking to better understand and articulate your faith, a Protestant curious about Orthodox perspectives, or simply interested in Christian history and theology, this seminar provides valuable insights into how the earliest Christians understood authority, revelation, and the relationship between Scripture and Tradition. In this episode, Nate Claiborne is joined by theologian-in-residence Dr. Michael Allen to explore the enduring value of Christian creeds, particularly the Nicene Creed. Together, they consider why creeds exist, what they accomplish, and how they serve both as summaries of the Christian faith and safeguards against theological error. Dr. Allen outlines three key functions of creeds: summarizing the vast narrative of Scripture, highlighting theological priorities, and drawing clear boundaries around unfaithful interpretations.Through examples from both the Old and New Testaments, they show that creedal formation is a deeply biblical impulse. From poetic declarations in the Pentateuch to hymnic passages in Paul's letters, the tradition of summarizing and reciting core truths has long served to orient God's people. The conversation also looks at how creeds function within the life of the church—not as a replacement for Scripture, but as interpretive tools shaped by the wisdom of the global and historical church. With 2025 marking the 1700th anniversary of the Nicene Creed, Nate and Mike also share why now is a particularly significant moment to reflect on its meaning and relevance in our worship, witness, and discipleship.

Step 1: Bible Alone? Not So Fast! Patrick started by calling out the big assumption that everything has to be proven from the Bible alone (Sola Scriptura).
