In this episode of The Cordial Catholic, I'm joined by the Dr. Shane Owens from the Franciscan University of Steubenville to talk about St. Augustine. Often claimed by non-Catholic Christians to support a low view of the papacy, the symbolic nature of Communion, and the doctrine of Sola Scriptura I ask Dr. Owens exactly what *did* St. Augustine believe about these ideas and how we can successfully win debates and discussions when a Protestant tries to claim that Augustine supports these views. With clarity and charity Dr. Owens demonstrates why arguments by popular Protestant scholars like Dr. James White and Dr. Gavin Ortlund – that Augustine supports popular Protestant doctrines – are completely wrong. With so much already out there, how do we stay faithful, original, and grounded? We will explore the tension between creativity and saturation, and offer a call for discernment, urging listeners to be intentional about who they follow, what they consume, and how they measure truth. At the heart of it all is a simple but powerful reminder: Scripture must be our standard. Whether you're a content creator or a consumer, the Word of God is the lens through which every message, every messenger, and every motive should be tested
Caleb Keith, Adam Francisco, Scott Keith, and Bruce Hillman delve into Martin Luther's, 'The Freedom of a Christian.' They explore the historical context of the Reformation, particularly the year 1520, and discuss the significance of Luther's teachings on justification by faith, the authority of scripture (Sola Scriptura), and the relationship between faith and good works. The critique highlights several key issues: the origins of the movement, its scriptures and prophets, its teaching on Jesus Christ, its doctrine of salvation, and its ultimate goal of exaltation.Origins and AuthorityMormonism began in the 1800s with Joseph Smith, who claimed revelations restoring the “true church.” The Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, and Pearl of Great Price, along with later prophetic teachings, are treated as scripture. The critique argues that this undermines sola scriptura by elevating human words above the Bible. Because LDS leaders hold ongoing prophetic authority, doctrine can shift with new revelations, creating instability and contradicting God's unchanging Word. The LDS Jesus vs. the Biblical JesusMormonism teaches that Jesus is the firstborn spirit child of Heavenly Father and Heavenly Mother, making Him a created being and the spirit brother of Lucifer. This stands in sharp contrast to biblical teaching that Jesus is the eternal, uncreated Son of God, fully divine and equal with the Father. The critique warns that the LDS view diminishes Christ's uniqueness and undermines the sufficiency of His atonement.Salvation and WorksA central concern is Mormonism's doctrine of salvation. While claiming belief in grace, LDS theology redefines it as divine power enabling obedience. In practice, salvation requires faith plus works—keeping commandments, temple ordinances, and moral performance. This, the critique argues, denies biblical justification by faith alone (Romans 3:28; Ephesians 2:8–9). Instead of resting in Christ's finished work, Mormons are left uncertain, striving to prove themselves worthy.Exaltation and the AfterlifeDistinctive to Mormonism is the doctrine of exaltation: faithful Mormons may become gods, ruling over their own creations. The critique condemns this as a revival of the serpent's lie in Genesis 3:5 (“you will be like God”). Scripture affirms that God alone is eternal and sovereign (Isaiah 43:10), and humanity is called to worship Him, not to pursue godhood.Prophets and Continuing RevelationThe LDS Church claims to be led by a living prophet whose revelations guide the church. This places ultimate authority in human leaders rather than Scripture, leading to doctrinal contradictions over time (such as reversals on polygamy or race-based priesthood restrictions). Such changes reveal the instability of a faith grounded in human authority rather than God's Word.ConclusionThe critique acknowledges the sincerity of many Mormons but insists that zeal without truth cannot save. Mormonism presents a counterfeit gospel—adding to Scripture, diminishing Christ, and making salvation dependent on human works. Biblical Christianity proclaims salvation by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. For this reason, the text concludes that Mormonism is not Christianity but a cult, and calls Christians to bring the true gospel of grace to those within it.
On this episode of Uncommon Sense with Ginny Robinson, we confront the horrific attack at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis. The shooter, Robert “Robin” Westman, once walked those same halls as a student. Years of unchecked mental illness and spiritual rebellion ended in bloodshed.America is in denial. We refuse to face the truth: the transgender movement is built on a Satanic lie. No one can change the sex God gave them. Pretending otherwise doesn't heal broken souls, it destroys them and puts others in danger.Christians must speak plainly. Love does not mean affirming sin or confusion. Love means pointing people back to Christ, who alone gives us our identity. Until our nation repents and turns back to God, tragedies like this will only increase.Pray for the victims and their families.--https://policecoffee.com/collections/coffee
Sunday August 24, 2025 – By Dominic Maillet 2 Timothy 3
Creeds, councils, and confessions are helpful, but unlike Scripture they are fallible and reformable in the light of scripture. The Bible alone is God-breathed, infallible in all matters of salvation, and centered on Christ.Through the councils, the Church defended the truth of God's against error: Nicaea upheld Christ's divinity against Arianism, Constantinople affirmed the Spirit's deity, Ephesus rejected Nestorianism, and Chalcedon declared Christ fully God and fully man. Other councils confronted heresies that distorted the faith, always pointing back to Christ.Sola Scriptura reminds us that God's Word is unique in nature and in authority. It is our final standard of truth. This teaching takes us on a journey of the creeds in church history, what they addressed and why they are important. be blessed as you listen to this teaching.
A new MP3 sermon from Alpha and Omega Ministries is now available on SermonAudio with the following details: Title: Webbon Implodes, Bad Sola Scriptura Argument, New Pope Promotes Liguori Subtitle: The Dividing Line 2025 Speaker: Dr. James White Broadcaster: Alpha and Omega Ministries Event: Podcast Date: 8/21/2025 Length: 60 min.
Started off looking at a new video from Joel Webbon, who recently called Nick "F-Bomb" Fuentes a "political savant," where he had Dr. Taylor Marshall, former Protestant, now more-Catholic-than-the-Pope promoter of Papalism, to talk about (ready for this?) dispensationalism and the red heifer! Webbon is now amplifying his "Rome really isn't our enemy" theme, just as predicted by certain folks who were mocked and ridiculed for it months ago. Then we looked at a particularly bad (though very popular) anti-sola scriptura argument, and finished off noting that the new Pope is promoting Alfonsus Liguori, the author of the astonishingly idolatrous book, The Glories of Mary.
For information, books or if you would like to make a love donation, please visit us at https://www.walkinginpower.orgThis critique classifies Seventh-day Adventism (SDA) as a cult, despite its Christian language and global reach. Rooted in William Miller's failed 1844 prophecy, the movement was shaped by Ellen G. White, who claimed thousands of visions and whose writings form SDA's doctrinal foundation alongside the Bible. The speaker argues this dual authority undermines “sola scriptura.” Key heresies include redefining salvation as faith plus works, requiring law-keeping for holiness, and elevating Sabbath observance as eternally binding, while condemning Sunday worship as Antichrist. These teachings contradict scripture, which presents salvation as a gift by grace through faith in Christ alone and identifies Sunday worship with Christ's resurrection. Other disputed doctrines include investigative judgment, soul sleep, and annihilation of the wicked. While many Adventists are sincere, the speaker insists their doctrine is not Christian truth and stresses salvation comes solely through Christ, not human works or extra-biblical authority.

In this enriching episode of the Double Edged Sword Podcast, we journey with Father Genard into Acts 15, where faith, obedience, and divine authority converge. Discover how the early Church faced the challenge of Gentile salvation, learning that true faith in Christ transcends the law through love and obedience to His commandments. Drawing from the wisdom of the apostles and the unity of the Jerusalem Council, we're reminded that to know and love our Heavenly Father, we must embrace the Son as the way, and honor the apostles He appointed. As James 2:17 teaches, faith without deeds is lifeless—let us live out our belief, trusting in Christ's authority and the guidance of His Holy Spirit. Tune in and be strengthened in your walk with God!

Patrick reflects on his 1993 debate on Sola Scriptura that he had with Protestant apologist James White and also takes calls from listeners discussing getting their children baptized in the Byzantine Rite, rapture and revelation, and more. Patrick talks about a previous debate of his with James White that Christian Wagner reviewed on his X channel Andrea - I saw a Youtube video about 14 changes which Pope Leo is doing in the Church. Is that True? Justin - Rapture and revelation: People left here on earth, do they have a second chance to repent? Omar - I am thinking about getting my child baptized in the Byzantine rite since she would get all of her sacraments right away. Nick - You really spoke to me with this topic. It brought up great memories of me calling Carl Keating when I was a kid.

Building on Part 1's takedown of KJV-onlyism, Greg delves into the heart of Bible translation debates in this thought-provoking conclusion, examining three key issues: faithfulness to ancient manuscripts (spotlighted by the Johannine Comma), the doctrinal weight of unique words like "full of grace" in Luke 1:28, and dynamic equivalence with modern language and inclusive phrasing. These choices are often shaped by theological agendas, exposing the inherent weaknesses of sola scriptura without apostolic tradition to guide interpretation. But the Church's 2,000-year tradition provides a stable foundation amid these controversies. This episode empowers listeners—whether investigating Protestants or faithful Catholics—to confidently embrace approved translations like the NABRE and RSV-CE for a richer encounter with Scripture. Does sola scriptura lead to chaos and individualism? Catholic theologian John Bergsma and Catholic podcaster Matt Fradd claim that rejecting the magisterium leaves Protestants without interpretive authority. Small tribute to John MacArthur who went to be with his savior last night. Played a little of the Best of John MacArthur from Reformed Funny Moments. You can go to YouTube to see the rest. Then continued with my interaction of Trent Horn about Sola Scriptura.
The sermon explores the unintended consequences of Sola Scriptura, arguing that while intended to empower individuals with direct access to God's word, it has fostered a culture of unchecked interpretation and theological chaos. The speaker contends that the Protestant emphasis on individual biblical authority has led to a system where laypeople evaluate sermons and theological positions without formal training, resulting in fragmentation, power struggles, and a lack of accountability. Ultimately, the speaker advocates for a more structured approach to biblical understanding, suggesting that individuals invest in formal hermeneutical training to navigate the complexities of Scripture and avoid the pitfalls of subjective interpretation.

Segment 1: • The Methodist church (and now PCUSA) shows what happens when you abandon Sola Scriptura. • Liberation Theology and LGBT compromise start with bad hermeneutics. • “Herman Who?” (soon free) will help you see why hermeneutics matters for staying faithful. Segment 2: • Not all modern worship is shallow—some songs (like Matt Papa/Boswell) get it right. • Most contemporary worship, though, remains me-centered and theologically thin. • Discernment in music shapes your view of God and worship. Segment 3: • Young people are leaving church for reasons deeper than they realize: they think faith is shallow, anti-science, and overprotective. • PLAY THE MAN cards equip young men for real spiritual battle. • Culture says “follow your desires,” but God's design offers something far better. Segment 4: • God's laws aren't restrictive; they're good for you and guard your joy. • Many reject Jesus without knowing the real Jesus they're rejecting. • Joe Rogan's conversations hint at the hunger for truth that only Christ satisfies. ___ Thanks for listening! They explore its historical roots in the Protestant Reformation, the distinction between general and special revelation, and the authority of the Bible over tradition and modern voices. It tackles one of the most important questions we can ask: Is the Bible truly our final authority? If you've ever wrestled with the role of Scripture in a world full of voices, don't miss this one.
