Is it possible to find hope and healing in the shadow of grief? How can we move forward after the loss of a loved one, such as a child, and both trust God and appropriately grieve? In today's episode, Sean talks with Talbot professor Dr. Dave Keehn, who is the author of a new, heart-wrenching, hopeful, and biblically-based book about processing grief after the premature loss of his son, Adam. Dave Keehn has served for over 30 years in youth ministry in both small and large churches. After teaching ministry courses as an adjunct for 12 years at Talbot School of Theology and Biola University, Keehn joined the faculty in the fall of 2009. His passion is to develop church leaders for future generations. Keehn's expertise is in developing ministry programs to reach and disciple the millennial generation and their families. He has spoken at numerous conferences and serves as the teaching pastor at Cornerstone Community Church in San Clemente, Ca. He is the author of the new book Living in the Shadow of Grief.==========Think Biblically: Conversations on Faith and Culture is a podcast from Talbot School of Theology at Biola University, which offers degrees both online and on campus in Southern California. Who were the first people to worship Jesus? Not the priests. Not the religious leaders. But outsiders, foreigners from the East who traveled 800 miles to meet a King. Whether you feel like an insider or an outsider, this message is for you. Join us Sunday as we celebrate the truth that the gift of Jesus is for all nations, all people, all of us. They smelled like shame. Society avoided them. Their testimony wasn’t even accepted in court. So why did God choose the shepherds to be the first witnesses of Jesus’ birth? This Sunday, we’re continuing our “Unexpected Encounters” series with a message that will challenge everything you think about who God uses and why. God reveals Himself to humble, open hearts before He reveals Himself to the powerful. If you’ve ever felt too ordinary, too broken, or too unqualified to be used by God, you need to hear this message. Sermon Notes: God Interrupts Ordinary Lives with Extraordinary News Luke 2:8 NLT Luke 2:9 NLT Luke 2:10-11 NLT God Chooses the Unlikely to Carry His Message Luke 2:12 NLT Faith Always Demands a Response Luke 2:13-15 NLT Luke 2:16 NLT James 2:17 NIV God Turns Simple Witnesses into Bold Messengers Luke 2:17-19 NLT Luke 2:20 NLT Acts 1:8 NLT Acts 4:20 NLT The post Shepherds – The Blue Collar Believers appeared first on Cornerstone Community Church.

Christmas didn’t start with angels in the sky or a star over Bethlehem. It started with 400 years of silence. And when God finally chose to break that silence, He didn’t begin with a king or a celebrity. He began with an overlooked priest named Zechariah, a man who had been faithful for decades but felt forgotten. This week we’re starting a new series called “Unexpected Encounters,” where we’ll explore the people and moments in the Christmas story that often get overshadowed. Zechariah’s story reminds us of a powerful truth: God often begins His greatest works with those the world overlooks. If you’re in a season of waiting, feeling forgotten, or wondering if God still sees you, this message is for you. Trust that God has not forgotten you, even in seasons of waiting or silence. Sermon Notes: God Sees Faithful People the World Overlooks Luke 1:5-7 NLT God Often Meets Us in Ordinary Faithfulness Luke 1:8-10 NLT Long Waiting Can Wear Down Our Expectations Luke 1:11-13 NLT Luke 1:18 NLT God Is Still Working Even in Seasons of Silence Luke 1:19-23 NLT Luke 1:24-25 NLT The post Zechariah – When God Breaks the Silence appeared first on Cornerstone Community Church.

What do you do when someone you love is about to make a terrible mistake? This Sunday, we’re looking at one of the most overlooked leaders in Scripture—a woman named Abigail who literally rode into danger to stop a future king from committing murder. Her story in 1 Samuel 25 teaches us how to notice what others miss, when courage means moving toward conflict instead of away from it, how emotional intelligence can change everything, and what it means to be a peacemaker and not just a peacekeeper. Sermon Notes: Leadership Lessons from Abigail: She Saw What Others Missed 1 Samuel 25:1 NLT 1 Samuel 25:2-3 NLT 1 Samuel 25:10-11 NLT 1 Samuel 25:13 NLT 1 Samuel 25:14-17 NLT She Chose Wisdom Over Pride 1 Samuel 25:18-19 NLT 1 Samuel 25:20 NLT She Spoke Truth 1 Samuel 25:23 NLT 1 Samuel 25:24-25 NLT 1 Samuel 25:26 NLT 1 Samuel 25:27-28 NLT 1 Samuel 25:29-31 NLT 1 Samuel 25:32-33 NLT She Modeled the Peace God Desires 1 Samuel 25:35 NLT 1 Samuel 25:37-38 NLT 1 Samuel 25:39 NLT Matthew 5:9 NLT James 3:18 NLT Romans 3:25a NLT Romans 5:1-2 NLT The post Abigail: Wisdom That Brings Peace appeared first on Cornerstone Community Church.

What do you do when God’s plan doesn’t match your expectations? Jonathan was next in line for the throne—a proven warrior, beloved by the people, with everything to gain. Then God chose someone else. His response reveals what true leadership really looks like. This Sunday, we’re continuing our series “The Rise and Fall of a Nation” with a message about courage, celebration, sacrifice, and surrender. Join us as we discover why Jonathan’s legacy wasn’t found in the throne he never sat on, but in the friendship he never compromised. If you’ve ever struggled with comparison, entitlement, or releasing control, this message is for you. When does “keeping the peace” actually plant seeds of destruction? We’re continuing our “Rise and Fall of a Nation” series with one of the most tragic figures in the Bible, King Saul. Tall. Handsome. Chosen by God. Anointed as king. He had everything going for him. So how did he end up dying alone, tormented, and consumed by jealousy? Join us as we uncover four powerful lessons from Saul’s leadership. Lessons that will challenge how you think about image vs. character, fear vs. faith, and obedience vs. excuses. Warning: This message will make you uncomfortable. But it might also save you from wasting your God-given potential. When does “keeping the peace” actually plant seeds of destruction? This week in our series “The Rise and Fall of a Nation,” we're looking at Eli—a priest who had everything going for him except courage. He knew what was right. He said what was right. But he wouldn't act on what was right. And his passivity cost him everything. Don't confuse passivity with humility. Don't substitute words for action. And don't let your silence today become your family's crisis tomorrow. […] The post Eli – A Leader Who Lost His Voice appeared first on Cornerstone Community Church.

God doesn't want your religious performance. He wants your obedient heart. We're continuing our series “The Rise and Fall of a Nation” with a message about Samuel, a man who spent his entire life listening to God's voice and faithfully obeying. In a culture where everyone did what was right in their own eyes, Samuel stood out as someone who did what was right in God's eyes. And his life teaches us what God truly desires from us.
