In the 22nd chapter of 2nd Samuel we have David's song of deliverance. How similar it is to that of Moses' song in Deuteronomy 32. The focus is on Yahweh's steadfast love; His capacity to, and willingness to, always deliver His faithful servants. Another important theme is God's enduring and Rock-like persistent protection and power exercised consistently on the behalf of His children. The Almighty Father and our Sovereign's will shall be accomplished in the earth, unhindered.Jeremiah 25 clearly tells us that the fourth year of Jehoiakim was the first year of Nebuchadnezzar. We are told later in Jeremiah's writings that this was the year when the king of Judah burned the Bible that the Omnipotent revealed His purpose to the potentate, Nebuchadnezzar, who presided over the kingdom of men. How important it is for us to appreciate that the fulfilling of God's purpose is not dependent upon our faithfulness. If we fail God will choose another. When king Zedekiah rejected the Almighty the Omnipotent Sovereign selected to reveal His Will to a Gentile monarch: Nebuchadnezzar. When Israel failed Yahweh in His mercy offered salvation to the Gentiles. He can just as easily reject us for failing to honour God: Romans 11 verses 11-36. Those verses also establish that once the fulness of the Gentiles is reached Israel will again be regrafted into their own olive tree. Details of the Almighty's kingdom plan were revealed to Babylon's mighty ruler in Daniel 2. The 25th chapter of Jeremiah records the punishment to be inflicted on guilty Judah as Yahweh's indignation was poured out.Chapter 13 of Romans developed the extension of peaceful living by explaining the purpose and practices needed in an orderly society. This chapter teaches the disciple of Christ that he/she is subject to the rulers and magistrate God had appointed. Deterrents and disciplinary measures are essential for the preservation of peace. Paul tells the disciple how to recognise our place and demeanour in such a God ordained ordered society. We will conform to society's laws unless they are in conflict with God's principles: Acts 5 verses 27-29. Chapter 14 turns its focus from living peacefully in a broad society ordered by divine discipline to the disciple's need to fix his mind on walking in harmony and fellowship with his fellow disciples. We must avoid judging our fellow believers, and rather recognising that it is to our Lord Jesus Christ; and he alone to whom we must give account We will either stand, or fall for our own doings and not to worry too much about what anyone else does. Peripheral matters must never become a focus or basis for comparing ourselves with others. The Christian's hope does not rest in his own strength or steadfastness, but in the mighty, preserving power of God. Jude 24-25, "To Him who is able to keep you from falling, and to present you before His glorious presence without fault and with great joy--to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen." Jude closes his epistle with this soaring doxology, lifting our gaze to the triumphant and unshakable glory of our great God and Savior, "To Him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before His glorious presence without fault and with great joy!" What comfort is found in those words! Left to ourselves, we would surely fall. Our flesh is weak, the world is alluring, and the devil is deceitful. If we had to keep ourselves, we would be like the spider's web--swept away by the first rough wind of trial or temptation. Yet God assuredly upholds His people, because He is faithful. The believer is kept, not barely, but perfectly. God does not merely preserve us in a state of struggle and guilt, limping into Heaven bruised and soiled. No, He will present us "without fault"--blameless in His sight, clothed in the righteousness of Jesus, and cleansed from every stain. And this will be done "with great joy". Not only our joy, but His! He who began a good work in us, will carry it on to completion. The Good Shepherd who laid down His life for His sheep, promises that He will give them eternal life, and that none of them shall ever perish. Jude reminds us that all glory, majesty, power, and authority belong to God--not only in eternity past, not only in the present age,

GOD "IS" OUR HEAVENLY FATHER! He is the beginning and the ending! He is Jehovah Jireh - our provider! He is Jehovah Rapha - God our Healer! He is Jehovah Shalom - God our Peace! The sad and disgraceful record of our two chapters is one of the 2 appendices to the time of the judges and occurred in Judges. The events described happened quite early in that 450 year period, at the epoch when the elders who had outlived Joshua were all dead. It is the prequel to the Samson record described in chapters 13-16. These chapters explain both the apostasy commenced by the tribe of Dan and the reasons why many of the faithful Danites did not move to the territory that was conquered by the ambitious and ruthless leaders of the tribe, against the laid back Zidonians. The story begins at the time of Moses' grandson, whose name was changed by a scribe in the AV, to protect the reputation and esteem in which Moses was held. However the ESV tells us in 18 verse 30 that it was Jonathan the son of Gershom the son of Moses, rather than an unnamed Levite mentioned in Judges 17verse 7. Micah's mother is a dishonest idolater who congratulates her son for confessing his theft and then his mother changes the terms of her vow. Such was the morality of those days when everyone did what was right in their own eyes ie each person was the arbiter of what was right to him, or her. Chapter 18 describes the morality of the majority of the tribe of Dan who are prepared to kidnap Jonathan the Levite. They were prepared to slaughter the enraged men of Micah's centre of idol worship. Then they slaughtered the peaceful people of a city, 17 kilometres to the east of the Zidonian coast, rather than obey the commandment of the LORD to destroy the Canaanites and take their allotted inheritance. In that place the Danites commence the apostacy that resulted in the calf worship in Dan many centuries later in the days of Jeroboam 1 of Israel. Isaiah 40 is the commencement of the section of the prophecy through to chapter 66 often called the ‘gospel in the Old Testament'. It begins with ‘the comfort' of God being revealed to His people. As we read this chapter the echoes of Handel's Messiah resonate in our ears. The mission of John the Baptist and the unveiling of God's glory that would be seen in Jesus the Messiah is next spoken about. Humanity's true state and redemptive need are shown, together with the only solution to this problem, to be enlivened and transformed by the Word of God, and thus be fitted for perpetuating in the coming Kingdom. That Word has the power to spiritually transform us during our time of sojourning that we may be fitted for God physically changing us at Christ's coming: Philippians 3 verse 20-21. The good news would begin in Jerusalem with the gospel being taught by a loving and caring tender shepherd: the Lord Jesus Christ. The Messiah would be supported by the prevailing and Omnipotent power of the Almighty Father, who would similarly empower all His children to be with Messiah when he comes on earth to rule. The chapter concludes with an empowering vision of what immortality will feel like . Carefully read verses 28-31 and see yourself as the recipient of divine mercy and being there when Messiah rules. The first of John's 3 letters was written between 85-98 AD by the aged and much beloved Apostle. He was one of the Lord's special 3 – Peter, James and John – who were selected by Jesus from among the 12 to witness select events and miracles. Together with his brother James, they were both fishermen and partners of Peter and Andrew in the fishing business. Their father Zebedee and his wife Salome appear to have owned the Galilean business. Salome seems to have been Mary's sister; making the two Apostles first cousins of our Lord Jesus Christ. Peter and John were paired by the Lord Jesus for various tasks including preaching. Peter may well have been the oldest of the Apostles and John the youngest. Peter died first as was prophesied by the Lord Jesus Christ around 67 AD; while John died up to 40, or more years after that time (see John 21verses 20-24). There are many internal evidences to the fact that the epistles of John and the book of Revelation were written towards the end of the first century AD (Revelation being the last writing of the New Testament; written after John's exile to the island of Patmos in 96 AD under the Emperor Trajan). John describes himself in each of the three letters as, “the Elder”. The vitally important themes of chapter 1 describe God's terms for forgiving us: 1. Confession and repentance 2. Being in Christ by baptism – the blood of Christ cleanses us 3. + Propitiation – Rom 3 : Grk hilasterion, Translated mercy seat in Hebrews. = chair, THRONE; MEETING PLACE- ROM 3 God is enthroned in Jesus Christ and “he* is the ONLY place wher God will meet with men. Verses 1-4 of chapter 1 speaks of what we heard from the beginning. Which beginning, we ask? The gospel of John tells us, 1:1 “In the beginning”. This was the birth of the Son of God – see verses 9-18 which speaks of the time when our Lord came into being (compare Acts 10 verses 35-43). They knew the Lord, ate with him, walked and talked with him. And to know our Lord was to understand His Father; and in that knowing was eternal life (John 17 verses 1-3). And the understanding of this good news (gospel) would lead to everlasting life in the kingdom of God, which will be set up at our Lord's coming (2 Timothy 4 verse 1). The sharing of this understanding brings fellowship in joining together in partaking of the bread and wine (communion means sharing together); and also joy unspeakable. Verses 5-10 deal with, “Walking in the light”. Again a comparison with chapter 1 of John's gospel record, shows the significance of light to the walk of the disciple – here Jesus is described as a light imparting source (phos – such as the light of the sun), contrasted to the light (luchnos – portable lamp) of the disciple John the Baptist. The three great themes of John's first letter are: 1) God is light; 2) God is life; and, 3) God is love. The theme that “God is light flows from the first letter 1:5-2:6. The Apostle speaks in absolutes, black and white; and so he says, that there is no hint of any shadow (cp James 1:17). Wrong behaviour, says John, is evidence of not understanding the relationship believers have with the Father and His Son. Of course believers sin through weakness, but it is not in character with them to wilfully choose a life of sin. But as long as we are endeavouring to follow in Christ's footsteps we will be forgiven upon confession of our sins. Verse 8 tells us that if we deny that our nature is biased to sin; or that we are not sinning; we are self deceived. However forgiveness is available to those in Christ who confess and forsake their sins. But, chapter 2 commences, “we have an advocate in the heavens in our Lord Jesus Christ. The word “advocate”, is a kindred word to the “comforter” (used in the gospel record in John; which the Lord was himself – and when he departed for heaven to be our priestly mediator; the Holy Spirit was sent by Jesus as another “comforter”). The word used here speaks of a defender in a court of law. The Greek word means, “I call and he runs to my side to aid me”. Our heartfelt confession and repentance means we need not fear rejection since the Lord Jesus Christ has provided a “place of introduction for us to God's mercy – the word “propitiation” (see Romans 3 verses 21-26, 8 verses 27-39; compare with Ephesians 2 verses1-22). The basis for our acceptance before God is “Jesus Christ the righteous”. The righteous forgiveness provided by the LORD induces a moral imperative to walk in the way of the Almighty (Psalm 130). Chapter 2 verses 5-2 and 29 is the connection between God being light (phos illumination as opposed to reflection); and God being love. In fact, because He is love it is essential that He be an Illuminating source to His children through the Word of God (cp 1 Timothy 2 verses 1-5; 2 Peter 3 verses 8-13). In verses 7-14 the aged Apostle restates the “new commandment” of Jesus Christ, which was new to the extent that agape love had never been demonstrated to that extent before in any man other than our Lord cp John 15 verses 9-17). The loving life of the disciple flows from an understanding mind that has been illuminated by the Word of the Father (Proverbs 4 verses 18-19). The confidence of the forgiven saint impels one upon the path of loving and self sacrificing service to others. John writes to fathers, children and young men with the confidence that he will see the fruit of the word in their lives. He tells us from verses 15-17 that the perishing and transient world consists of no more than passions dominated by “the lust of the flesh” (these are the carnal appetites which tend to control what we do); “the lust of the eyes” (principally covetousness and our insatiable desire for more); and, “the pride of life” (the importance of being someone that is always greater than another). Christ conquered all of these through the heritage of his divine Sonship; and the Word of God impelling his every thought and action (Isaiah 11 verses 1-5). Verses 18 to 27 speak of the time of the development of the Antichrist among the believers (Greek “antechristos” from “ante” meaning the substitute, or usurper; and “christos” that is the Christ, Yahweh's Anointed). False teaching is evidence of this; and was even apparent towards the end of the first century AD. In its fully blown development it turned into the apostasy of the Church described in the books of – Revelation; 1 Timothy 4:1-5; and 2 Thessalonians 2 verses 1-12 and others. The true believers would resist corruption of teaching and practice through their immersion (anointing in/by the Word of God (1 Peter 1 verses 21-25, Titus 2 verses 11-15; 3 verses 1-11). Verses 28-29 express John's assurance that such believers will continue in the true course until the Lord Jesus Christ comes.

"They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world." John 17:16 What a difficult matter it is to be in the world, and yet not to be of the world! Our Lord Himself carried out this principle. He passed through the world, as one who was not of it. Oh, that we could but imitate His holy example. It should be our whole endeavor to do all the good we can in it and for it; and yet to never imbibe its spirit, its principles, and its maxims. How can a believer walk through this world safely and securely? Only as he is upheld by a strength that is Omnipotent! I am passing through a world lying in the wicked one. I belong to another kingdom, which is not of this world. Dear friend, see then, your high calling! He has called you to come out of the world and to be separate; in principle, in practice, in heart. "If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you." John 15:19 "I have given them Your Word. And the world hates them because they do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to the world." John 17:14

Joshua 22 speaks of the tribes of Reuben, Gad and Manasseh returning to their inheritance east of the River Jordan following their active armed service west of the river. Verses 1-9 tell of these tribes receiving their allotments before the other ten tribes fought for their territory after crossing into the Promised Land. Verse 4 explains how the LORD had now given rest to the tribes of Israel now occupying the Canaanite lands. The three tribes were given thanks and sent home to their own lands. Verses 10-34 describe how easily a misunderstanding between brothers can occur. Not wanting the children of the three tribes east of the Jordan – Reuben, Gad and half of Manasseh – to have their children growing up in the belief that they have nothing in common with the children of the tribes on the western side of the river Jordan; an altar was built near the common border of both groups. The purpose of the altar was to direct the minds of those tribes on the east to the need for united worship of Israel's God within the Promised Land. Without asking why the altar was constructed Phinehas summons the army of the western tribes to go up to fight against their eastern brethren. It was a case of being over zealous and of a failure to ask before acting. However, eventually enquiry was made – this should have happened before the army was mustered. The purpose of the altar was explained by their eastern brothers. When this was understood war was averted and all went home (presumably wiser for the experience). The altar was allowed to remain and was named “Witness” for the reason explained in verse 34. Isaiah 28 is an indictment against the drunks in the fat valleys of Ephraim. Verses 2-4 speak of the Almighty's judgments on these proud men. Verses 5-6 say that these judgments will vindicate the just. Verses 7-9 describe the disgusting scene of these drunkards. Verse 10 is a drunken ditty that speaks of the vile attitude with which these drunkards held the Word of God in contempt. The Word of the LORD was to these many tiresome – precept after precept and line upon line – it was a monotonous and repetitive and burdensome requirement. For this attitude Israel's Sovereign would bring against the nation the Assyrians whose language was like a stuttering speech to the Israelites says verses 11-13. However the message of the prophecy is encapsulated in verse 16; that the Almighty would lay in Zion a precious cornerstone which would be the foundation for saving faithful believers in the Lord Jesus Christ. This basis was established by the sinless life of Jesus and the final pouring out of his life as a sacrifice on the stake on which he was crucified. God would judge the contemptuous Israelites who made a covenant with death. Yahweh would sweep away the lies that were the basis of the lives of those evil doers. There would be no means of escaping for the wicked. Verse 20 is an interesting metaphor describing the guilty's inability to become comfortable. This would be because these wrongdoers had set themselves against God. Verses 23-29 use a series of word pictures which explain that the proper process must be used in harvesting (a symbol of judgment). And the right tool must be chosen for the correct job. The Omnipotent Creator knew exactly what He was doing and would use the best method to judge the wicked and a specially raised up Son to save the faithful. Chapter 11 of Hebrews is about “by faith”: what can be accomplished; chapter 12 “with hope” :patiently enduring; chapter 13 “in love” the abiding overarching necessity for believers – these 3 (compare 1 Corinthians 13:13; Galatians 5:5-6)). The writer completed the book on the great and lofty themes of God's Word. All good translations convey the sense of Hebrews 11 verses 1-3, that faith tells us that the framing, or adjusting, of this world's ages has been done with our Lord Jesus Christ in mind. Faith is the reality, substance, of the things being hoped for. Without faith, hope and love we would find ourselves living in a meaningless world. The chapter could also be called “Faith's family”. From verses 4-7 the writer takes us to the roots of this family and looks at what was done by faith before the flood. Abel commences the list, and his name means “futility” – that is the human position apart from God (but with God all things are possible). Abel offered what God asked ie what God wanted. It cost Abel his life (as it had, and would still, cost the lives of the faithful readers of this book should they stand firm for their faith). But faith gave Abel an abiding and eternal life guaranteed by God. Similarly Enoch's life was threatened by Lamech, whose power could not match that of our Almighty Sovereign. Verse 6 should be read slowly and pondered, “Without faith it is not possible to please God; for the ones who come to Him must wholeheartedly believe two things – God is; and, He becomes a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him”. Noah was warned of God about a coming flood, when as yet it had not even rained on earth. The readers were likewise being threatened to be overwhelmed by an impending and tumultuous unstoppable Roman tide, and if they were without God's provided ark (Christ) they could not survive. By faith Noah built the ark to save his family; commencing this labour 20 years before having any family. Consider Abraham and Sarah (Vv8-12). They, says the prophet Isaiah, were the human founding source of faith's family (51:1-2). Both of them left a life of luxury to faithfully follow He who had promised them a land and city with foundations (verses 9-16; cp also Hebrews 6:13-20). The writer shows that all the Father's family died in faith awaiting their future reward at Christ's coming. The book's readers, likewise, had in Jerusalem no continuing city; but were seeking the one which their God was building; and by faith they would constitute that city (Psalm 87). It was by faith (verses 17-19) that Abraham was able to offer, as a sacrifice, the heir of the promises. Abraham was fully and firmly convinced that Isaac would be resurrected. The members of the patriarchal family demonstrated their faith, often in small and simple ways – faith is frequently shown in the little things (verses 20-22). Moses' faith was evident when God used Moses to deliver Israel from Egypt. Faith gave Moses the capacity to endure suffering. Moses looked, not on what seemed to be, but believed what the Omnipotent had promised (so must the readers' faith sustain them in their trials). Faith brought Israel through the Red Sea (and it sustained would see them rewarded in the Promised Land). The writer says time was insufficient to keep naming the members of faith's family (verses 32-38); but consider the power of faith to sustain enduring trust in God to live faithfully in a godless world. And all of these together with us will receive the reward of the faithful when our Lord Jesus Christ comes to set up his kingdom on earth (verse 39).

Na'hum. (consolation). Nahum, called "the Elkoshite," is the seventh, in order, of the Minor Prophets. His personal history is quite unknown. The site of Elkosh, his native place, is disputed, some placing it in Galilee, others in AssyriaThe name refers back to Yahweh's compassion connected with Jonah's mission eighty-seven years before. The name Nahum is an abbreviated form of the name Nehemiah, which means “Comfort of Yahweh.”What is the purpose of this book? The book of Nahum is devoted exclusively to the announcement of the destruction of the city of Nineveh, the prophecy gave hope to the people of Judah who had long been terrorized by Assyria's constant and ominous threatBefore I get into this study, I discuss Sabbatai Zevi, who declared himself to be the Messiah in 1666. He amassed a following of over one million believers, half the world's Jewish population during the 17th century, by proclaiming that redemption was available through acts of sin. Sabbatai's believers planned to abolish many of the ritualistic observances, because, according to the Talmud, in the Messianic time there would no longer be holy obligations. Fasting days became days of feasting and rejoicing. Sexual promiscuity, adultery, incest and religious orgies were encouraged and practiced by Sabbateans. Then I go into the design of the Washington Mall and how it compares to the thinking of the Kabbalah, that Sephiroth Tree of Life, and how the Serpent of Wisdom twines itself around that tree1   Burden = ‘mas-saw'' means ‘a lifting up and a placing upon'. It is a burden, a weight or and affliction that is placed on an individual, a nation or an empireNineveh = Among other things, the prophecy of Nahum shows us that Yahweh not only deals with individuals, He also deals with nationsNahum prophesied that: -Nineveh would end “with an overflowing flood". That flood occurred when the Tigris River overflowed its banks and destroyed part of Nineveh's wall-Nineveh would “be hidden”. After its destruction in 612 B.C. the city truly was hidden in that it was not discovered until A.D. 1842-After Nineveh's destruction, it has never been rebuilt-In Nahum 2:1-2, the prophet had prophesied that Assyria would be conquered, but that Judah would be restoredVision = khaw-zone' In the Hebrew this also could be a revelation. Not written before or separately from, its deliverance. This was more than a message communicated to Nahum in words or phrases from Yahweh. Because this was a vision, in some way Nahum saw it2     GOD. = Hebrew El. EL  is essentially  the Almighty , thought the word is never so rendered (see below, "Shaddai"). EL is Elohim in all His strength and power. It is rendered "Yahweh" as Elohim is, but  El  is Yahweh the Omnipotent jealous. = kan-no'; jealous or angry: (Exod. 20:5-7. Deu. 4:24)the LORD. = Hebrew. Yahweh. While Elohim is Yahweh as the Creator of all things, Jehovah is the same Yahweh in covenant relation to those whom He has created. Thoughts on the readings for January 19th (Genesis 32, 33; Psalm 36; Matthew 21). Jacob in Genesis 32 journeyed to Bethel. As he did so he noticed that journeying alongside Jacob's was a troop of angels. Jacob named the place Mahanaim (meaning “two companies”). It was a reassurance to Jacob that the God of Bethel was always with him, as He promised in Genesis 28. Jacob next hears the disturbing news that Esau, with 400 armed men, is coming to meet him. Jacob becomes gripped with fear as his mind went back to the hostility with which they had parted. Jacob makes plans for his family's protection and an attempt to placate his brother, Esau, with great material gifts. After doing all he could Jacob stayed behind to humbly beseech help from his God. And in response the God (El – strength) of Bethel sends his angel who wrestled all night with Jacob. The Almighty withheld the angel's might, so that neither Jacob nor the angel were able to prevail. At some stage of the contest Jacob realised that he was contending with an angel. At this point Jacob refused to release the angel until he was granted a blessing. The angel changed Jacob's name to Israel (“a prince with God”) and smote the hollow of Jacob's thigh, leaving him with a permanent limp; and a reminder that in order to prevail (with God and men) he must always trust that the LORD can do, when we cannot. At sunrise the angel let Jacob go. It was too late for Jacob to catch up with his family; whose fate was in the hand of the Almighty. Hosea tells us that it was here in Bethel that Jacob found God at last; and is so able to teach us. Slowly read aloud Hosea 12 verse 2-6 and pause and ponder. Note also that when Israel brought their tithes and first fruits to the priest they were to say aloud the words of Deuteronomy 26 verse 5. In chapter 33 the twin brothers meet. Jacob found that the expected hostility was not there. Jacob's Sovereign had preserved him and fulfilled the promise of chapter 28. Jacob tried to give his gifts to Esau, who didn't want them. Esau asks Jacob to come with him to Petra. Jacob insists that his brother go ahead and they will follow at a slower pace. Jacob never made that journey but went to Succoth (meaning “booths”). They constructed booths and dwelt there. Jacob then came to Shechem, where he purchased the land that his grandfather Abraham had purchased long ago. Jacob built an altar in thanksgiving to his Sovereign; and named that altar – God the God of Israel. Psalm 36 is from the pen of David. The choirmaster is told to celebrate the steadfast loving kindness of Yahweh. Verse 1 tells us why the wicked act the way that they do – “there is no fear of God before their eyes” (cp Romans 3 verse18, which is the 7th consecutive quote from the Old Testament showing the perversity of human nature). Verses 2-4 of Psalm 36 speak of the arrogance and calculated plotting of the wicked against the upright. From verses 5-10 David speaks of his confidence in Yahweh's steadfast love and righteousness. Those who have received it know of the benefits that come to those who faithfully trust in the LORD. Meditate the power of verse 9 – “with you (God) is the fountain of life; in your light do we see light” (ESV). The Father alone is eternal and not created. All life has come from Him. Verse 10 is a plea for the Creator to maintain that love for His children. Verses 11-12 is a call for the Omnipotent to silence once and for all time the arrogant. Our God is all-powerful. King David tried to describe His power in Psalm 29. He likened God's power to a ferocious thunderstorm that splintered trees and shook the earth. Yet as incredible and fearsome as that storm was, God's power is even greater. And all who encounter it can't help but tremble in awe and worship. But while most of us have no problem acknowledging the power of God, rather than marvel, we are left with questions. We hear verses like Jeremiah 32:27, “Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh; is anything too difficult for Me?” and wonder, “If God is so powerful, why doesn't He use it more?” If He could part the sea, give sight to the blind, and feed 5000 people with a little boy's lunch… why can't He give a lonely single a mate? Why can't He grant a devoted childless couple a child? Why can't He raise the cripple out of his chair or wipe out the cancer cells in a young mother?  If God's so powerful, why doesn't God use His power for good things like that?The words of A.H. Strong begin to answer that: “God can do all that He will, but He will not do all that He can.”The release of God's power is contingent upon His purposes.As limited humans, we simply don't know all that is at play in any given situation. But God does and those purposes…those plans… are for the best and one day they'll be perfectly clear.The release of God's power is coupled to His love.Parents can understand this better than most.  Children ask and plead for things that are within your power to give them, yet you don't because you know it's not good for them. Your love constrains your power.So it is with God. Sometimes God doesn't exercise His power on our behalf not because He doesn't love us, but because He does.The release of God's power is available to His children.God is willing not merely to show His power, but to share His power with His children. The release of God's power is accessed through our obedience.Time and again in Scripture, we read how God's power was released when someone took the next right step. And as they did, somewhere along the way, God's power was manifest. The sea was parted, the leper was healed, the bread and fish were multiplied. We so long to see God's power displayed right now…in this moment.  But more times than not, He asks us to walk in the direction He has told us and to trust that somewhere between here and there, in His perfect timing, His power will be shown.  Text: Jer. 32:27; Ps. 29 Originally recorded on October 17, 2010, at Fellowship Missionary Church, Fort Wayne, IN

We expect that criminals will lie but not the police.Bill Dorsch a retired Chicago homicide detective understood that people when accused of committing crimes, especially in homicide cases, would make conscious decisions to lie when questioned. He hated being lied to but his task as an investigator was to discover the truth no matter where it would take him.He worked hard to gather evidence and testimony from individuals that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrator. The accumulation of his work was always focused on the presentation of his investigation at a later time in the courtroom. Only then, could the families of homicide victims find the answers that would hopefully bring closure to the loss of a loved one.John Wayne Gacy was a monster of a man who walked among us. Not only the families of his victims; but citizens, especially those who lived in the Chicago area expected that law enforcement had done a complete and thorough investigation.Dorsch knew Gacy and even had dinner in his home, the very home where the bodies of so many of his victims were later found. After Gacy's arrest, Dorsch responded to law enforcement requests to the public for information about possible victims and locations. However, that information was not welcomed and he was told "We don't want any more bodies" The City of Chicago rushed to get the case into court and obtain a conviction.The authorities had ended their investigation with Gacy's arrest. With a heartless disregard for the victim's families, known and unknown, they not only buried Gacy but the truth along with him. At first, Dorsch felt betrayed and alone but it was the stories and the pleas for help that came from the families of some of Gacy's victims that persuaded him to begin his own investigation. Now, more than twenty years later he is able to reveal all that he has learned. He will reveal never-before-know information that should have been discovered in the weeks and months that followed Gacy's arrest.
