Post-Gazette Pitt insiders Stephen Thompson and Abby Schnable break down the Panthers' latest transfer portal additions and ponder whether the near-total roster overhaul can actually be a blessing for Jeff Capel's squad. This show is presented by FanDuel. In this day and age of college basketball, could it actually be a blessing in disguise that Capel's squad will be entirely rebuilt for next season? Are there examples where a complete roster overhaul has worked for struggling programs? Can Charleston Southern transfer A'lahn Sumler give Pitt what it's been missing for multiple years now — a proven ball handler and strong 3-point shooting? And what should Capel do with his remaining four spots? Our duo tackles those topics and more. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Check out https://www.innovaud.ch/en/ to learn more.Episode Summary:In this episode we're joined by François Capel, Innovation Advisor at Innovaud, the innovation agency behind the canton of Vaud, who is leading the push to define and build a new category in life sciences: BioTools, positioning Switzerland as a hub for companies building tools for research, not just end products. With him is Loïc Roch, the co-founder and CTO of Atinary, a Swiss deep tech AI company building self-driving labs from Lausanne and Silicon Valley. By combining robotics, machine learning, and automated experimentation, Atinary is fundamentally changing how scientific discovery happens. In this episode, we unpack three key ideas. First, why the next wave of AI is moving beyond software into the physical world, automating entire R&D pipelines and accelerating discovery by up to 1000x. Second, how BioTool startups operate under a completely different business model than traditional biotech, avoiding regulation and enabling faster go-to-market, but facing new challenges in sales, pricing, and positioning. Third, how Atinary is building a data flywheel through self-driving labs, turning experimentation into a scalable, AI-driven process. We also go deeper into the nuances behind building in Switzerland. François shares why BioTools require a new category identity for investors, coaches, and founders to understand the opportunity, and how ecosystem coordination in places like Vaud can accelerate entire industries. Loïc reflects on the real bottleneck in deep tech, not technology, but change management, and what it takes to shift decades-old scientific workflows. And together, they highlight why Switzerland's strength is not just in individual startups, but in building tightly connected ecosystems that can compete globally. The cover portrait was edited by www.smartportrait.io.Don't forget to give us a follow on Instagram, Linkedin, TikTok, and Youtube so you can always stay up to date with our latest initiatives. Post-Gazette Pitt insiders Stephen Thompson and Abby Schnable check in on the men's basketball program after it was announced the Panthers were letting go of assistant coaches Jason Capel and Tim O'Toole. This show is presented by FanDuel. How much of an impact will these moves have? Is Pitt risking losing players and shaking up the program by letting go of two trusted assistants? Or is this a step in the right direction for a program that has lost its way? Will the lack of job security under Jeff Capel make it more difficult to backfill these positions? And were these moves simply made to appear like they weren't resting on their laurels? Our duo tackles those topics and more. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Post-Gazette Pitt insiders Stephen Thompson and Abby Schnable react to the unexpected news that men's basketball coach Jeff Capel will be retained for the 2026-27 season. This show is presented by FanDuel. What went into the decision by athletic director Allen Greene? Did anybody see this coming? Was Capel's reportedly eight-figure buyout prohibitive? Or was this strictly a basketball decision? Was this exclusively Greene's call? Or did the university and its boosters have some kind of say in the matter? Where does the program go from here? Is Capel's vaunted recruiting class enough reason for hope moving forward? Will the university give Capel more NIL resources now? And what can we read into Greene's message about more community/fan support? Our duo tackles those topics and more. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. BREAKING: Jeff Capel will return as Pitt head coach next season.
The Steelers have signed Jaquan Brisker, which had Poni in a fun move. He likes the move for the Steelers defense, even though it's a little bit more money to that side of the football. 2 of the questions Poni wanted to ask to start the show – is Brisker one of the 10 best Pittsburgh natives to play for his hometown team? And is he a Top 5 Penn State football player to play for the Steelers? BREAKING: Jeff Capel will return as Pitt head coach next season. Steelers reporter Nick Farabaugh from Penn Live dot com joined the show. Nick, a Pitt grad, said he is ‘beat down' by the news of Jeff Capel coming back to the basketball program next season. Nick doesn't think another ‘big' free agent will be signed by the Steelers after the Jaquan Brisker acquisition, but some smaller moves will be made. Nick said the expectation is for Aaron Rodgers to come back, but you just never know. Nick pointed out that Patrick Queen got paid by the Steelers today, the third day of the league year, so a trade for him is very unlikely.
A stunning development. We took calls regarding Jeff Capel and there was an unbelievable number of defenders in the listening audience. Poni can't believe there isn't a higher standard to a program that was once the hottest ticket in town. Former MLB pitcher Matt Clement joined the show. Matt thinks the spring training record means something – something little – but it's a positive with a young team. Konnor Griffin has yet to draw a walk in spring training and there is some question regarding his patience at the plate – Matt thinks that's one of a few reasons the Pirates have right now to send him to Triple A. Matt, who is also the high school coach at Butler, got into some basketball questions as we enter match. He talked about coaching Ethan Morton in high school, who was one of the most-prolific scorers in PIAA history. Is it always the smartest thing to foul when you're up by 3 points late in the game? Donny Football Debrief – Gateway football coach Don Holl joined the midday show today to talk about Jaquan Brisker. What were some of his greatest hits?

If Pitt moves on from Capel, who could be some of the replacements? There will reportedly be a discussion involving Capel's future in the next few days.

Post-Gazette Pitt insiders Stephen Thompson and Abby Schnable preview the Panthers' ACC tournament opener against Stanford on Tuesday and wonder how many games they'd need to win for coach Jeff Capel to keep his job. This show is presented by FanDuel. What can Pitt do differently this time around, after it lost 75-67 to Stanford on Feb. 25? How can the Panthers slow down freshman Ebuka Okorie, who scored 34 points in that first matchup? Who are some key players and matchups to watch? Is there any chance Pitt could make a deep run to save Capel's job, like NC State did a few years ago for Kevin Keatts with a run to the Final Four? How many games would Pitt have to win for Allen Greene to give Capel one more year? Our duo tackles those topics and more. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. On3 reported that Pitt boosters are gathering money to buy-out Jeff Capel's contract. Bob thinks it's time to move on from Capel after only one NCAA Tournament. Bob would talk to Andy Toole about the job. Joe thinks, being a results-based business, it may be time for a change.

As the Pitt basketball season approaches its final week, we're asking the question again: What is going to happen with Jeff Capel? The Panthers' head coach is coming to the end of his eighth season and his team has lost more than it has won. Will Pitt move on from Capel? Should Pitt move on from Capel? We're looking at those questions and more on today's Morning Pitt.
Post-Gazette Pitt insiders Stephen Thompson and Abby Schnable take a look at how coach Jeff Capel has been managing his bench and whether that might be contributing to the fatigue we've already seen on the team's West Coast road trip. This show is presented by FanDuel. We saw the Panthers tired late against Stanford on Wednesday, so why isn't Capel playing his bench more? The coach said players like Kieran Mullen and Macari Moore would be key contributors, so why did they combine for just three minutes Wednesday night? What are the risks — and potential benefits — on giving them more playing time for the rest of the season? Our duo tackles those topics and more. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Post-Gazette Pitt insider Stephen Thompson breaks down the Panthers' 67-47 loss to No. 18 Virginia on Tuesday night. This show is presented by FanDuel. Were the Cavaliers simply more talented than the Panthers? Or was the lack of effort and hustle by Jeff Capel's team a bigger story? How can Pitt keep big man Cam Corhen out of foul trouble on nights like those? Why didn't Capel turn to Kieran Mullen when it was clear the small-ball approach wasn't working? And what do Capel's postgame comments tell us about his mindset? Is he accepting defeat for this season? Stephen tackles those topics and more. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Post-Gazette Pitt insiders Stephen Thompson and Abby Schnable take stock of the Panthers' rough basketball season. This show is presented by FanDuel. Should Jeff Capel be worried his team will miss the ACC tournament for the first time in his tenure? Where can they steal some wins over this next tough stretch? What's their "magic number"? How can Pitt stay out of foul trouble and convert on easy shots to have a chance to score a big upset soon? Can Macari Moore and Kieran Mullen continue to lengthen the lineup and give Capel some depth behind starters like Damarco Minor and Cam Corhen? Stephen and Abby tackle those topics, then give their picks for Saturday's contest against NC State, which was moved to noon ahead of the impending snowstorm. Post-Gazette Pitt insider Stephen Thompson breaks down the Panthers' men's basketball team's latest loss, this time snatching defeat from the jaws of victory at Boston College. What led to this late collapse from Jeff Capel's team? How many points did Pitt leave on the table with blown layups and free throws? How can they right those wrongs? If the Panthers can't beat Boston College in a game like that, where are the ACC wins going to come from? What positives did Capel take from the game, and do they matter amid all the losing? And how much credence should Capel lend to the performance of Macari Moore, who came in and gave the Panthers a spark? Stephen tackles those topics and more. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Post-Gazette Pitt insiders Stephen Thompson and Abby Schnable break down Jeff Capel's Panthers and the precarious spot in which they find themselves. Stephen and Abby look back at Capel's comments after the team's embarrassing loss to Hofstra. Were his words striking the right chord? Did he take most of the blame? Or did his comments reveal a concerning disconnect between himself and his players? Defense was supposed to be the Panthers' identity coming into the season, but why hasn't it turned out that way? What can fans glom onto as interest wanes in the team before the ACC schedule has even begun? Who can step up to lead the team — Damarco Minor, Cam Corhen, Barry Dunning Jr.? Clare meets a passionate proponent of walking today on a hike around Capel y ffin and the Twmpa in the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park. Andrew Green has just published a book called Voices on the Path, a History of Walking in Wales and for him it's not just a case of putting one foot in front of the other and admiring the scenery, it's “an activity loaded with all kinds of social, cultural and economic associations”. Their immediate surroundings have long attracted writers and artists from across the generations including William and Dorothy Wordsworth, JMW Turner, Bruce Chatwin and Allen Ginsberg. Also drawn to the beauty of Capel y ffin was the poet and painter, David Jones, described in 1965 as the 'best living British painter' by the then Director of the National Gallery. Peter Wakelin's book 'Hill Rhythms' tells Jones' story, which he wanted to share with Clare on the walk but a twisted ankle meant he had to remain at base, however he used the time to seek out the potential location of one of Jones's best loved paintings. They met at the tiny Capel-y-ffin chapel on the Monmouthshire/Powys border and walked up the Twmpa - also known as Lord Hereford's Knob - in the Black Mountains returning via the valley of Nant Bwch. The Duke Blue Devils return home tomorrow to take on the Pitt Panthers, and we preview the Quad 1 game on DBR Bites Episode 80. Duke and Pitt both enter with 12-2 records overall and undefeated in the ACC, and this is a strong Pitt team led by a beloved member of The Brotherhood in Jeff Capel. Capel has a team that has quite a bit of continuity, which makes their elevation to one of the best teams in the ACC. They have some length and some toughness, and they have some guys who can put the biscuit in the basket. Donald and Jason go through what Pitt brings to Cameron and how Duke can continue their unbeaten start to the ACC schedule. Before the break, we also do a little word on The Duke Effect and how many people tuned into Duke Basketball in 2024. After the break, we switch to football, where Duke lost to Ole Miss last week in the Gator Bowl. Despite the 52-20 scoreline, there was some things to be proud of from Duke on both sides of the ball. We discuss how Henry Belin IV did throwing the football and how Duke is set up to be a contender for the ACC title next year with their schedule and many of the players coming back, including All-American Chandler Rivers.
