Few legacies can impact the amount of people, organizations, species and habitats that Becky Humphries has. Starting as an employee of the US Fish and Wildlife Service in the 1970s, she quickly transitioned to state wildlife work the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and grew through the ranks culminating in her being appointed Director of the Department of Natural Resources and then in 2010 of the newly-developed Department of Natural Resources and Environment, which combined the DNR and state's environmental agency. She was the first woman to hold either director role in Michigan. Humphries' leadership saw the department through some of the most trying and uncertain times – including the discovery of Bovine Tuberculosis and chronic wasting disease in the state. Humphries' work with the DNR elevated her to leadership roles within Association of Fish and Wild Agencies. She not only won their two most prestigious awards for her work, but she was named chair of the Fish and Wild Health Committee and led the National Fish and Wildlife Health Initiative. After more than 30 years with the DNR, Humphries left in 2011 to join Ducks Unlimited as the director of conservation partnerships. In 2013, Humphries joined the National Wild Turkey Federation as its chief conservation officer before being named chief executive officer in 2017 (Sourced from Michigan United Conservation Clubs). Happy 1st day of Advent, friends. I wanted to share a very special episode of the podcast with you to start off your Christmas season with. If you have been with the podcast for a while, you know that last year my Dad read Sally Lloyd Jones' incredible and poignant version of the Christmas story from the Jesus Storybook Bible before each of our Advent episodes. He and I even talked about what he loves about the Christmas story, and how God uses the least likely to tell His story in the inaugural Advent episode.   In January, my Dad passed away after a long battle with cancer. My husband and I decided that we wanted to be able to hear him read the Christmas story for us and we put them all together into one whole presentation of the story. That is what we offer you today, because maybe you need the Truth of the beauty of this story to be read over you, or your children, by someone who loved the Lord and lived His life following the Light of Christ.   Thank you so much to Sally Lloyd Jones for her gift of words, and to ZonderKidz, her amazing publisher, for allowing us to share them. If you do not own a copy of the Jesus Storybook Bible, it's a must have for the kiddos in your life, not just for Christmas, but for the everyday activity of sharing big Truths with little hearts.   We hope that this serves as a sweet and easy way to share the Christmas story with your family or with your own heart, whenever you need it. We also dedicate this episode to the memory of those we have personally lost this year, including my Father, my Mother in law Becky Humphries, my Grandmother, Deola Wyatt, and all those who have passed away this year due to the coronavirus pandemic. We do not grieve without hope dear ones, because the Light of the World has come. Merry Christmas, friends.

National Wild Turkey Federation President/CEO Becky Humphries – Season 3 Episode 3 – February 17 On this episode of Talking Mule Deer, Steve and Jodi talk with one of the leading ladies of the conservation community – Becky Humphries, President and CEO of the National Wild Turkey Federation. Becky tells us how she got her start as a wildlife biologist ultimately working her way to lead the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. After leaving the state she spent several years running the Great Lakes office for Ducks Unlimited before she moved to NWTF seven years ago. We talk about the organization’s Save the Habitat, Save the Hunt initiative including their efforts on active habitat management that is good for wildlife, but also helps improve forests and hopefully reduce the risk of catastrophic fires. She talks about how NWTF, like MDF, is working with the U.S. Forest Service on stewardship agreements that are allowing the organizations to oversee habitat restoration projects including a pilot project in Colorado through the Rocky Mountain Restoration Initiative. For the Save the Hunt part of their mission, Becky tells us about their efforts to bring in more hunters and shooters to carry on our traditions. We wrap up by talking about the priorities NWTF has on their radar screen for the coming year.

The Revolution with Jim & Trav

The opening of dove season is symbolic. It's heralded as the official kickoff to fall's hunting seasons and for many hunters, it's a virtual holiday that's celebrated with good friends, shotguns and grilled dove breasts. So, this week on The Revolution with Jim and Trav, we're honoring all things Wingshooting with an exclusive two-part interview with Ronnie Philips and Logan Burditt of "Heartland Waterfowl". They'll dish on early goose tactics, decoying and calling sandhill cranes and proper concealment. Then, professional biologist, conservation leader and National Wild Turkey Federation CEO, Becky Humphries, will discuss "Save the Habitat. Save the Hunt.", plus hunter recruitment and much more. Furthering our Wingshooting talk will be Larry Leutenegger, Pattermaster CEO, and he'll touch on their Anaconda and Code Black line of premium choke tubes. Finally, Eva Shockey, author of "Taking Aim: Daring to Be Different, Happier, and Healthier in the Great Outdoors", and co-host of "Jim Shockey's Hunting Adventures", will help us wrap-up our broadcast. Eva will look back at her personal struggles, reflect upon her triumphs and ultimately what lead to her hard-earned, tremendous success in the outdoors, and how she's using her stardom to better others. The Revolution and this week's topic of Wingshooting, is presented by Outdoor Channel, Sportsman Channel, World Fishing Network and MyOutdoorTV.
