The imagery of Jesus' birth has evolved over the century, but its meaning to all humanity remains as simple as ever in this holiday season.Special thanks to my Uncle Matt for giving me the idea for this episode! - JonThis episode originally aired on December 23, 2024.
In this episode of Friday Fiduciary Five, Eric Dyson talks about the origins of Christmas, explaining its historical roots and its transformation by Emperor Constantine into a Christian holiday. He highlights the significance of December 25 as the day that we celebrate Christ's birth and its integration into Roman life. Eric draws a parallel between Jesus Christ as the ultimate fiduciary, who acted selflessly for others, and the responsibilities of fiduciaries in the financial sector. Send us a textFor our devotional today, we will be reading from Luke 1:41 and 42. In this verse God wants to remind us, what is the Greatest Miracle of Christmas which will be our theme for this month. Our prayer is as you celebrate Christmas with your family that you will remember that God's gift of salvation in your life. Just like Mary and Elizabeth was called by God, you are also got a calling in your life, but it is up to you to hear and obey Him. Remember that God's gift to us is free but it is not free for Him because He gave it all when He gave himself to die in the cross because He loves us. Just like when someone gave us a gift, and it is up to us if we want to accept it or not. It is the same with God's gift to us. My prayer is that Christmas you will accept God's gift of salvation because tomorrow is never promised.I hope this devotional blesses you and stay tuned for our Special Christmas episode and Special Guests who will share what they think about the Greatest Miracle of Christmas. This special live episode of Cinema Verbi was recorded at Detroit's Sacred Heart Major Seminary. Fr. Matt, Fr. Brian, and a live audience watch the Christmas classic It's a Wonderful Life (1946).0:29 – Fr. Matt and Fr. Brian introduce this episode—the very first live episode of Cinema Verbi. Recorded live at Sacred Heart Major Seminary during a fundraiser for Detroit Catholic Campus Ministry, the episode is divided into two parts. During the first portion, Fr. Matt and Fr. Brian introduce this episode's movie, It's a Wonderful Life (1946) then the recording pauses while the live audience watches the movie. In the second portion of the podcast, Fr. Brian and Fr. Matt share some thoughts about the movie, their Seeds of the Word ratings, and close the episode with trivia.(2:27) Fr. Brian shares that he's seen the movie several times and also acted in a stage production while in high school. Fr. Matt has only seen the film one other time.(6:14) Fr. Brian provides a brief overview of the Church's teaching regarding angels, particularly guardian angels; how the Church's perspective on angels differs from that of popular culture; and the role angels play in the plot of It's a Wonderful Life.(10:52) Fr. Matt and Fr. Brian discuss another major theme of the movie, that of giving of oneself for others.(20:30) Fr. Brian and Fr. Matt return after watching the film with the live audience.(22:16) Fr. Matt observes that he appreciates how the movie shows that suffering is never in vain, that the Lord can always use it for good.(25:05) Fr. Brian shares his favorite line from the movie; one that's not spoken but only seen in a sign in the bank, “All that you can take with you is that which you give away.” He also reflects on some of the character names and wonders if they were deliberately chosen to connect with the Passion story from sacred Scripture.(26:33) Fr. Matt talks about appreciating seeing the events of the film unfold from the perspective of the angels.(29:57) Fr. Brian and Fr. Matt share their Seeds of the Word ratings and then play trivia with members of the audience.(39:25) Fr. Brian closes the episode with prayer.

Christmas traditions such as December 25, the Christmas tree, Santa Claus, and the Magi are best explained not as borrowings from paganism but as developments rooted in early Christian theological reasoning, all ultimately pointing to Christ's incarnation drawing both Jews and Gentiles to worship the true King.Christmas Special // Michael Crosswhite
On Christmas Eve, 1944, Elizabeth Vincken and her twelve-year-old son, Fritz, sat down for a quiet Christmas Eve dinner, hopeful for a respite in the midst of deadly battles in the northern Belgian forest. Knocks on their door quickly turned their evening into a series of dramatic moments and standoffs, but Elizabeth's bravery and compassion led to one of the most heart-filled – and unheard – stories of World War II. In this very special holiday episode, Army Matters senior producer Carrie Varouhakis and Army historian and writer Kevin Hymel unearth this story of a mother, a son, weary soldiers, warm food, a song, a fat goose and a lifelong quest, weaving it into a story that will fill your ears – and heart – with joy. Narrated by: Kevin M. Hymel, Historian, U.S. Army Carrie Varouhakis, Senior Producer, AUSA's Army Matters Podcast Music: The versions of “O Tannenbaum,” “Auld Lang Syne” and “Silent Night” found in this episode are performed by the U.S. Army Field Band. What's up, dudes? It was a special based on a seminal album of the ‘80s holiday seasons! Yes, Ken Kessler from Sounds of Christmas and Scott Leopold from Holly Jolly X'masu are with me to talk “A Very Special Christmas Party." Arnold Schwarzenegger, Danny DeVito, and more celebrate with Olympians.Unfortunately, the beginning is cut off, so it's unclear how the special started. Arnold and some Olympians discuss his singing, and Barbara Mandrell recounts playing soccer, talking to a 50m freestyle swimming gold medalist. Next, DeVito and Arnold work out with some athletes. Randy Travis then tells us he thinks of food at Christmastide and sings "Winter Wonderland."Immediately following that, Susan Saint James tells us of Mark Arrowood kindness, and Mike Tyson talks basketball. Scott Hamilton and an Olympian ice skate together, and we see the entire group in church for a special reading by JFK, Jr. Finally, at dinner, everyone goes around the table lighting a candle representing their Christmas wish. Oh, and Santa shows up!"Silent Night?" Check. "Santa Claus is Comin' to Town?" Got it. Actual songs from the album? Nope. Not really. So grab your sweater, light a candle, and make wish to this episode on “A Very Special Christmas Party!"
