There is one topic dominating the campaign today, or two related topics: Catherine Connolly's record as a barrister who worked on behalf of financial institutions in the aftermath of the property crash, and Fine Gael's negative campaigning around that record. A video posted by Fine Gael to social media and an interview Humphreys gave to a Sunday newspaper drew attention to the issue but also drew a huge negative reaction, from Connolly supporters but also from those who believe Connolly should be above such criticism due to how barristers are assigned cases. In this special edition of The Tonight Show, the three candidates outline their visions for Ireland's future, challenge each other's policies, and set the tone for the campaign ahead. Fianna Fáil's Jim Gavin has emerged as the candidate with the strongest national radio footprint in the run-up to the 2025 Presidential election, according to new research from Irish PR intelligence platform Everhaze. Analysis of 2,500 radio clips over the past twelve weeks shows that while Independent Catherine Connolly leads overall mentions (36.3%), Gavin (33.5%) pulls ahead in terms of national airwaves share, with 34.9% of his coverage on national talk formats. By contrast, Connolly's campaign is more heavily weighted to local outlets (68.6% of her coverage) and Heather Humphreys' profile is even more locally concentrated (71.3%). This national advantage translates into strong presence across high-reach talk shows such as The Pat Kenny Show, Newstalk Breakfast, and The Anton Savage Show, where margins between candidates are typically slim but Gavin remains consistently competitive. On local radio, however, Connolly retains the edge, leading in 13 counties including Donegal (+22pp) and Galway (+18pp). Gavin posts selective peaks (notably Louth, where he dominates with 77.5% of mentions) and converts his national presence into 8 county leads overall. Humphreys, meanwhile, has a more concentrated footprint, with standout strength in Cavan/Monaghan (+12pp lead). Sentiment analysis underscores a three-way contrast: Humphreys records the most positive net tone (+12pp), Gavin trends neutral-positive (+5pp), while Connolly faces a more polarised balance (?3pp). Speaking about the findings of the report, James McCann, CEO of Everhaze said: "With nominations closed and facing into the four week sprint, each candidate will be looking to own the share of voice across the national airwaves to capture undecided voters. Outside of Dublin the counties of Longford, Leitrim and Roscommon have heard the least from all candidates so far which is unsurprising given the battle for the urban centres of Dublin, Cork, Limerick and Galway. As the campaign heats up its every candidate's race to lose in presenting a clear narrative and message to the public." Everhaze is an Irish-built PR intelligence platform that tracks real-time media coverage across radio, print, and online sources in Ireland and the UK. Causal Inquiry in International Relations (Oxford UP, 2024) by Adam R. C. Humphreys and Hidemi Suganami defends a new, philosophically informed account of the principles which must underpin any causal research in a discipline such as International Relations. Its central claim is that there is an underlying logic to all causal inquiry, at the core of which is the search for empirical evidence capable of ruling out competing accounts of how specific events were brought about. Although this crucial fact is obscured by the ‘culture of generalization' which predominates in contemporary social science, all causal knowledge ultimately depends on the provision of empirical support for concrete claims about specific events, located in space and time.  Causal Inquiry in International Relations not only explores existing philosophical debates around causation; it also provides a detailed study of some of the most fundamental methodological questions which arise in the course of causal inquiry. Using examples drawn from philosophy and from the study of international relations, it demonstrates what is problematic about established ways of thinking, brings new clarity to both philosophical and methodological questions, and seeks to enhance collective understanding of the contribution that causal inquiry can make to empirically rich and critically aware scholarship about world politics. It concludes by situating ‘causal inquiry' in relation to other forms of inquiry employed in the study of world politics, emphasizing especially the often unnoticed dependence of causal inquiry on precisely the kind of knowledge of specific events which historians are well placed to provide. Adam Humphreys is Associate Professor and Head of Department in the Department of Politics and International Relations, University of Reading. He joined the University of Reading in 2013, having previously been a British Academy Post-Doctoral Fellow at the University of Oxford (2007-10) and Fellow in Politics at Brasenose College, Oxford (2010-13). Danny and Jim break down the incomings, outgoings, and more as well as rate the entire window for both Chelsea Football Club and Bayern Munich. Buckle up because this was one of the most crazy windows in recent memory. And don't worry YES we will be streaming the Champions League match between Bayern Munich and Chelsea. As always Chelsea did A LOT of business. Key incomings for Enzo Maresca included. Jamie Gittens, Alejandro Garnacho, Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Estevao, Buonanotte, Dario Essugo, Andrey Santos, Jorrel Hato, Paez, Penders, and Sarr. Outgoings were Nico Jackson, Broja, Felix, Madueke, Christo, Ugochukwu, Mathis Amougou. Carney, KDH, Matos, Chilwell, Gilchrist, Humphreys, Veiga, Beach, Bergstrom, Bettinelli, Kepa, and Petrovic while players loaned out including partner club Strasburg were Paez, Penders, Sarr, Anselmino, Castledine, Kellyman, Samuels-Smith, Wiley, and Nicolas Jackson to Bayern Munich of course. Chelsea netted about 5 million euros in profit this window. Pretty impressive business. Bayern Munich's transfer window was less desirable. The club notably struck out on their main transfer target dating back many years Florian Wirtz, other key misses were Nico Williams, Bradley Barcola, and sadly many more. The lack of alignment between the supervisory board, sporting board, and even coaching staff made this a difficult window for Vincent Kompany and the Bavarians. Luckily there were some key incomings including Diaz, Tah, and Bischof. With Nicolas Jackson joining on loan from Chelsea. Sadly Bayern Munich lost key players who are already missed by the club, some of which left on a free transfer including Sane, Dier, and Thomas Muller. Other outgoings were Tel, Coman, Wanner, Aznou, Kratzig, and Vidovic. Players that left on loan were Palhinha, Kusi-Asare, Zaragoza, Peretz, Ibrahimovic, Zvonarek, and Buchmann. It's yet to be seen if this window will improve the squad for the long run but Bayern did net roughly 10 millions euros in addition to massive savings in the wage depart.
