The Southeastern 16 crew gives its predictions for the College World Series final series between LSU and Coastal Carolina in the 2025 college baseball season. LSU first baseman Jared Jones found his stride leading into the finals, while the Tigers' loaded pitching staff of Kade Anderson, Anthony Eyanson, Zac Cowan, Casan Evans and Chase Shores will be fresh heading into the series. And the Tigers will need it, because the Chanticleers' pitching staff of Jacob Morrison, Cam Flukey, Riley Eikhoff, Dominick Carbone, Ryan Lynch and company might the the nation's best, and the same could be said for catcher Caden Bodine. The Southeastern 16 crew of Graham Doty, Jay Greeson and Chris Lee previews the Baton Rouge super regional of LSU and West Virginia. LSU's four-man pitching tandem of Kade Anderson, Anthony Eyanson, Casan Evans and Zac Cowan may be the country's best when it comes to covering lots of innings in an elite manner. But can LSU's other talented arms, like Chase Shores, Jaden Noot, William Schmidt, Mavrick Rizy, Cooper Williams, Jacob Mayers and DJ Primeaux step up if called upon for coach Jay Johnson? Consistency has been an issue with LSU's offense. But Ethan Frey has gotten red-hot in the postseason, while Jared Jones, Derek Curiel, Stephen Milam, Daniel Dickenson and regional Game 4 hero Luis Hernandez are also tough outs. The Mountaineers went undefeated in the Clemson regional after knocking off Kentucky in the title game. The pitching is keyed by starters Griffin Kern (who also closed the title game) and Jack Kartsonas, plus, rubber-armed Reese Bassinger. WVU's offense is led by Kyle West, who had an amazing season (.347/.500/.607) at the plate. The bottom of the Mountaineers' balanced order hit well in Clemson, and five players with double-digit steals and Skyler King (.424) and Sam White (.421) also being on-base threats. Anthony Franco joins Darragh McDonald to discuss what the Red Sox will do in light of Alex Bregman's quad injury, including top prospect Marcelo Mayer getting called up, whether Rafael Devers will get any time a third base, if Trevor Story will lose playing time to due to his struggles, and how the team could make room for Roman Anthony. They also get into some Pirates topics including Jared Jones getting UCL surgery, whether the team should trade Paul Skenes, and what other trade chips they could move at the deadline. Listener question topics include whether the Orioles should trade Felix Bautista, if Kyle Tucker would be a good fit for the Giants this offseason, how seriously to take the Cardinals, the chances of the Cubs trading Kevin Alcantara, and what has led to the Dodgers having 14 pitchers simultaneously on the injured list.
The Southeastern 16 crew looks at the field of four in the Baton Rouge Regional and gives our picks. LSU is one of the national favorites to win the entire tournament thanks to aces Kade Anderson and Anthony Eyanson, not to mention the rest of the TIgers' talented staff that includes Zac Cowan, Casan Evans, Chase Shores and others. But the Tigers haven't yet as well lately and need for stars Jared Jones, Derek Curiel and Daniel Dickinson, among others, to click as the postseason moves on. Any way you slice it, the Tigers are heavy favorites to advance. Dallas Baptist, coached by the well-respected Dan Hefner, will be LSU's biggest challenge thanks to a lineup that hit 97 home runs and stole 103 bases. Clayton Krauss, Nathan Humphreys, Michael Dattalo are among a star-studded lineup whose biggest name is catcher Grant Jay, whose name will be called in the top rounds of the upcoming MLB Draft. How far pitchers Ryan Borberg, former LSU pitcher Micah Buckram and James Ellwanger can carry DBU will go a long way in determining whether it can pull an upset. Rhode Island hit .309/.431/.514 as a team and had Athony DePino (19 homers), Jack Hopko and DJ Perron (15) and Eric Genther smack double-digit home runs. But can a pitching staff led by relief ace Joe Sabbath do enough to make the Rams competitive? Little Rock won the OVC title and now pins its hope on pitcher Jackson Wells, who's had a tremendous college career and is capable of coming up with a big outing.
Bubba Chandler could have realistically made the Opening Day roster like Jared Jones or Paul Skenes in early May. The George Pickens situation Dan Graziano said on ESPN Radio that if you gave the Steelers truth serum, he doesn't think the Steelers liked the quarterbacks who were available.
Are we paying enough attention to Bubba Chandler? He's the No. 2 prospect in baseball and we're barely talking about him. The hype around Paul Skenes, trade talk with Skenes, Jared Jones' injury, the Pirates offense, off the field news, and other stuff has focused our attention in so many places. We also think Aaron Rodgers SHOULD be here in two weeks, but he realistically SHOULD be here now.
Ben Lindbergh and Meg Rowley banter about Rich Hill's latest perfect game bid, whether the Tigers are as good as they've looked, Jared Jones' elbow surgery and the Pirates' offensive outage, Paul Skenes and whether lower arm slots will protect pitchers' arms, Pete Crow-Armstrong and the players who've ascended to “main character” status this season, […]

Post-Gazette insiders Noah Hiles and Colin Beazley recap the Pirates' series victory over the Reds at PNC Park. Before their recap begins, the duo discusses the injury news pertaining to right-hander Jared Jones, who will miss the next 10-12 months after getting surgery to repair a UCL injury in his right elbow. The discussion then pivots to the Pirates pitching staff, which, with names like Mitch Keller, Paul Skenes, Bailey Falter and Andrew Heaney, has been nothing short of dominant under new manager Don Kelly. But for as good as the pitching has been, the bats have struggled, tying an MLB record for 26 straight games with four or less runs scored. The video is concluded with a quick look at the team's upcoming series against the Brewers, which includes a first big-league start from right-hander Mike Burrows on Thursday evening.

Jeff reacted to the Jared Jones news and if he can recover at a quicker pace than normal. Jeff said Jones apparently felt something in his elbow during recovery and it made him realize it might be time for surgery. Jeff said Paul Skenes is probably most upset about the Jones news and not about his gem being wasted on Sunday. Did the Pirates do enough to build this team? The guys asked Jeff why Tommy Pham is still on the roster, which comes on the heels of one of his better games. Judge Donny.

Care to Change Counseling - Practical Solutions for Positive Change
In this insightful episode, we dive into common myths about depression and how they can impact our understanding and approach to mental health. Jared Jones, a returning expert, provides valuable guidance on navigating depression and offers practical steps for those struggling with it.Common Myths About Depression:Depression is "just" depressionReality: Depression is often intertwined with underlying issues like anxiety or trauma. It's rarely a simple, isolated condition.Depression is simply a chemical imbalance in the brainReality: While chemicals play a role, the brain's complexity means that treatment must also address brain circuitry, not just chemical levels.Medication is the only or permanent solutionReality: Medication is a tool, like a cast for a broken bone, designed to support healing. The goal is to eventually reduce or stop medication with proper treatment and care. You must "fix yourself" before seeking supportReality: Healing is a shared process. Support from friends, family, or professionals is essential. You don't need to face depression alone. You should be able to quickly overcome depressionReality: Healing takes time. Small, consistent steps are far more effective than expecting instant results or a quick fix.Key Steps to Take When Experiencing Depression:Reach Out for SupportDon't try to handle depression alone. Build a support system with friends, family, or a trusted community. Seek help from a therapist or counselor.Practice Self-CompassionBe gentle with yourself. Avoid self-criticism and “should” statements. Treat yourself with the same kindness you would a close friend.Take Small, Manageable Action StepsFocus on progress, not perfection. Take things one small step at a time. Simple actions like calling a friend, going for a short walk, or completing a small task can be transformative.Key Principles to Keep in Mind:Progress is better than perfectionForward is forward, no matter the paceIt's okay to slow down, but don't stop completelyHealing isn't linear – embrace the journeyAdditional Advice:Medication is a temporary support for the healing process, not a permanent solution.Incorporate a multi-faceted approach: therapy, self-care, and medication (if appropriate).Be patient with yourself – healing takes time, and it's okay to move at your own pace. The Most Important Message: You are not alone. Small steps lead to significant progress. Don't give up – take action, seek support, and embrace the healing process. If you or someone you know is struggling with depression, this episode offers a compassionate, realistic roadmap to recovery. Greg gave an update on Jared Jones and if he will ultimately have to face Tommy John surgery, mentioning that it is always up to the player to get the surgery. Welcome to Episode 84 of Tablesetters, where Devin and Steve break down a loaded week across the baseball landscape. We open with the Subway Series, which gave us tension, star power, and plenty of narrative fuel. Juan Soto made his much-anticipated return to Yankee Stadium — and the reaction was loud. Devin and Steve unpack how the series played out, from Soto's quiet weekend at the plate to Max Fried's dominance and Cody Bellinger's statement performance. The Yankees took two out of three, but the bigger story was what this matchup revealed about where both New York teams stand in 2025. Then we go around the league: Brandon Hyde fired — The Orioles pull the plug on their manager and DFA Kyle Gibson as their season spirals. What's next for Baltimore? Jose Alvarado suspended 80 games for a banned substance reportedly tied to a weight loss drug. He's out for the postseason. How do the Phillies respond? Twins win streak snapped at 13, thanks to a highlight-reel robbery by Brewers rookie Jackson Chourio. Angels sweep the Dodgers at Chavez Ravine for the first time since 2010. Is this the spark they needed? More bad news in Pittsburgh — Tommy John likely looms for Jared Jones, and Jeff Passan says the Pirates might want to trade Paul Skenes now while his value is highest. A bold take — but does it make sense? We also dig into the Sub-2.00 ERA club, debate the results of our Twitter poll on breakout players, run through this week's Red Hot/Ice Cold picks, and wrap with what we're watching next in Coming Around 3rd. Paul Skenes is electric. He's a superstar. And no, the Pittsburgh Pirates should not even entertain the idea of trading him — no matter what the national media says. On this episode of Bucco Brew, we break down why Skenes is already changing the trajectory of the franchise and why all these “should the Pirates trade him?” takes are absolutely insane. We also dive into Ben Cherington's growing scrutiny as the Pirates continue to underperform, give an update on Jared Jones' injury status, and talk prospects with Anthony Murphy — including who could be next to get the call. Plus, we preview the upcoming Reds series and what needs to change fast. Watch/Listen and subscribe for all things Pittsburgh Pirates. ☕ Powered by De Fer Coffee & Tea
Hour 1 with Bob Pompeani and Joe Starkey: Paul Skenes is a blessing and a curse. Paul Skenes pitched a complete game, struck out nine, and only allowed three hits. The Pirates wasted a true masterpiece from Paul Skenes yesterday in Philly. The big fella threw an 8-inning complete game in a 1-0 loss to the Phillies. If he asked for a trade right now, how would fans feel about him? The guys think it'd be hard to blame him. How would fans feel if Paul Skenes asked for a trade? Pirates pre-post game host Dan Zangrilli joined the show. Dan was live at the ballpark getting set for his duties tonight as the Pirates host the Reds. He gave the feel from the park. Dan gave his take on how Paul Skenes could be feeling as he continues to watch this team waste his talent. Could the Pirates be working themselves into a no-win situation if they don't figure it out? Dan reacted to a report that Jared Jones could be going under the knife for Tommy John surgery, which would keep him out probably until the 2027 season. Dan doesn't think you needed to squint too hard to see that coming, but either the team or player wanted to just hope the tendon would get better. He questioned when we would see Jones pitch again.

Host Adam Bittner welcomes Post-Gazette sports columnist Jason Maceky to react to a busy week in Pittsburgh sports news, which included the release of the Steelers' schedule on Wednesday night. Is the NFL signaling that it expects Aaron Rodgers will ultimately sign with the team by creating a Week 1 matchup with the New York Jets, his former squad? How intrigued should we be by an early meeting with former Steelers QB Justin Fields? And is it a good thing or a bad thing that coach Mike Tomlin and Co. will face another late-season gauntlet with games against the Super Bowl-contending Bills, Ravens and Lions? Our duo tackles those questions, plus Jason's reaction to what we saw from names including Derrick Harmon, Will Howad, Kaleb Johnson and Jack Sawyer at rookie minicamp. Then on other fronts, they discuss the Penguins coaching search and College Football Playoff expansion. Is Washington Capitals assistant Mitch Love a name that should be high on fans' list? And is the ACC right in fighting the Big Ten and SEC proposals for how the playoff will look moving forward? Then in the third segment, airing on the PG's Pirates YouTube channel, Adam and Jason react to Jason's interview with Pirates owner Bob Nutting following the firing of manager Derek Shelton last week. Does Nutting have any actual power to improve the Pirates' economic disadvantage against teams like the Dodgers, Mets and Yankees? Why did he fire Shelton but not GM Ben Cherington, who's also struggled in his role? Has Nutting oversold the impact of injuries to names like Spencer Horwitz and Jared Jones on the team's slow start? What can be done to get names like Bryan Reynolds back on track? And is it past time that Bubba Chandler was promoted to the big leagues?
