The Pittsburgh Pirates are firmly in the National League Wild Card race, and their improved depth might be the biggest reason why. Jim and Ryan discuss how players like Billy Cook, Tyler Callihan, Endy Rodriguez, Jacob Gonzalez, Jake Mangum and Esmerlyn Valdez have stepped up throughout the season. Even with Oneil Cruz, Konnor Griffin, Spencer Horwitz and Brandon Lowe missing time, the Pirates continue to find different ways to win. They also discuss the Pirates' plans at the trade deadline, concerns about ownership limiting payroll, potential bullpen targets and the upcoming series against the New York Yankees. The Pirates haven't played in four days, and Pittsburgh has apparently lost its mind. Could the Pirates make a massive offer for Mason Miller? Is Luke Weaver the best realistic target? They also discuss Brooks Raley, Adrian Morejon, the need for another starting pitcher and the Robert Hassell III acquisition. The Pirates are three games over .500 and firmly in the playoff race. Now it is time to find out whether the front office is ready to improve the roster for the second half. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Crowley does not see the Marlins as a good team just a hot team. Crowley has some questions about what it will take for the Pirates to make the playoffs. Will the Pirates add another arm to the bullpen? Dorin says they will, whether it is the right arm or not. Crowley and Dorin are not fans of the Brandon Eisert part of the trade. Will Oneil Cruz and Spencer Horwitz continue their success when they return from the injured list? Can the Pirates go on a hot streak during the second half of the season? Crowley says they can as they have yet to have a true "hot streak" this season and it is due at some point. What better point of the season to get a hot stretch than the second half? Crowley accuses Dorin of flexing for the camera, however I don't think Crowley knows what muscles are and cannot differentiate stretching and flexing. An in depth dive into the trade targets on the top 100 list. Would you rather add Luis Arraez for the Pirates at second base and move on from Brandon Lowe or keep Lowe without an extension?

7-13 Fan Morning Show 7am Hour: Ben Cherington made a trade over the weekend. Was there a better trade on the table? According to some reports, better relievers were available for what the Pirates gave up—the 34th overall pick. The White Sox also selected Jim Thome's son with the pick. This could potentially be an all-time Pirates trade. There was a potential deal with the Mets for Brooks Raley, a very good left handed reliever. The Pirates took the deal for Brandon Eisert instead. There was a Poni prediction this weekend that the Pirates would sweep the Brewers. He got one right! Was Connor McGregor hurt before his fight against Max Holloway over the weekend? How mad would you be if you bought a ticket to that fight? Also, a lot of people bought tickets to see Paul Skenes vs Joe Misiorowski but did not see the Miz because he was fatigued. Would you entertain trading Oneil Cruz this deadline? Crowley says that trading him is a non-starter and when Cruz, Spencer Horwitz, and Konnor Griffin come back it could be the best lineup in baseball. Crowley is chewing gum as he tries to quit nicotine. We wish him luck as he quits nicotine. How do the guys feel about Paul Skenes? They say they feel a little better now that his last two starts were more like Skenes. Seth Hernandez had some interesting quotes while playing in the futures game. Could we maybe see Hernandez in the bullpen in September? Producer Charlie got a phone call from someone during the rain delay Friday night from Allegheny County Jail. He asked for the name again, but no one responded. What if The Fan was their one phone call to get bailed out? Did Producer Charlie condemn someone for a lifetime in prison? The Pirates pulling Jared Jones could have angered the caller so much they wanted to vent from prison.

Paul Skenes was named the Pirates' lone All-Star, but Brandon Lowe, Bryan Reynolds, and Braxton Ashcraft all have strong cases. How does a team with one of the best offenses in baseball end up with zero offensive All-Stars? Plus, Endy Rodriguez and Henry Davis have quietly turned the catching situation into a strength. A blockbuster Thursday slate shook the fantasy baseball universe to its absolute core, delivering a slate-breaking power clinic from a top-tier young phenom alongside an elite pitching performance that flirted with absolute perfection. Corey Pieper returns to break down the massive fantasy fallout, highlighting league-winning offensive explosions, high-leverage pitching meltdowns, crucial injury timelines, and an enticing underdog look for the FanDuel Bet of the Day. The Tampa Bay Rays put on an absolute masterclass that dominated the fantasy landscape. Infield cornerstone Junior Caminero logged a historic, slate-shattering first career three-home run game, punishing Royals pitching to the tune of 6 RBIs in a 13-2 rout. Right behind him on the mound, Ian Seymour put together a breathtaking bulk-relief performance, carrying a collective no-hit bid into the late frames while spinning 6.2 hitless, scoreless innings with seven strikeouts. Elsewhere in the league, young frontline arms flashed jaw-dropping upside. Bryce Miller weaponized an uncatchable arsenal to fan 11 batters over 5.2 frames, Tatsuya Imai fanned 10 in a stellar 6-inning duel to outlast Troy Melton, and Connelly Early logged nine punchouts to match Cam Schlittler's electric 9-strikeout showcase. After an agonizing slump, Freddy Peralta finally provided a massive sigh of relief for his fantasy managers, bouncing back beautifully from his previous shellacking to fire 5.2 brilliant, scoreless innings. Meanwhile, the power surges continued at the dish, as Caleb Durbin launched another long ball, and Texas phenom Wyatt Langford kept his blistering hot streak alive by clearing the fences yet again. On the flip side, several high-investment foundational players completely tanked fantasy ratios on Thursday. Premium righty Seth Lugo was targeted early and often, completely unraveling to surrender seven earned runs in just five painful innings. Kevin Gausman similarly hit a devastating structural roadblock, shelled for six earned runs on 10 hard hits across six laborious frames. Relief depth took a massive hit too, as Gus Varland collapsed out of the bullpen, tagged for five earned runs while failing to finish his second frame. High-profile rookies also endured a harsh reality check, with both Jac Caglianone and Nick Kurtz going completely quiet, turning in empty 0-for-4 nights anchored by three empty strikeouts apiece. The active fantasy landscape is bracing for a monumental weekend wave of high-impact activations and structural shifts. Roster reinforcements are officially incoming as dynamic shortstop centerpiece Bobby Witt Jr. is anticipated to make his highly awaited return to lineups today, and Corey Seager is officially back in action. Arizona's active rotation gets an immediate jolt with Brandon Pfaadt taking the bump today, newly flanked by veteran Max Kepler, who officially linked up with the Diamondbacks yesterday. However, it's not all positive news; Toronto suffers a blow as infield stabilizer Spencer Horwitz heads to the injured list, Oakland's Zack Gelof lands on the IL with a hand fracture, and the Cubs lose depth with Ben Brown sidelined due to a neck issue. Meanwhile, fantasy managers are keeping a vigilant eye on young catcher Cooper Ingle and tracking Matthew Boyd's progress as he works back toward rotation durability after a 4.2-inning buildup outing. The Pirates pulled off one of their best wins of the season, overcoming Shohei Ohtani and a 6-1 deficit against the Dodgers behind Tyler Callihan's first two Major League home runs. But the bigger story is Oneil Cruz. Alex Stumpf breaks down Cruz landing on the injured list with a fracture, why the reported 4-6 week timeline may not be as simple as it sounds, and how big of a loss this is for a Pirates offense that has relied heavily on his power, speed and on-base ability. With Cruz out, the Pirates now have real questions in center field. Can Jake Mangum hold it down? Does Jhostynxon Garcia get another shot? Could Esmerlyn Valdez force his way back up with the bat? And how much more can the Pirates realistically ask from Brandon Lowe, Ryan O'Hearn, Bryan Reynolds and Spencer Horwitz? This episode of OffBeat looks at why there is no easy replacement for Oneil Cruz and why the Pirates' postseason push just got much tougher. Another loss for the Pirates last night sends them to 4 consecutive L's. Was it another controversial move by Don Kelly to take out Mitch Keller for Evan Sisk, which immediately led to the Cardinals taking the lead. Chris defended Kelly because the long history of baseball would tell you to take Keller out when he did – not just the new wave of analytics. Sisk has been great and Keller didn't have a great history against Nolan Gorman. Kelly hasn't always pushed the right buttons, but the bullpen occasionally has to do its job. 6 runs in 9 innings should be enough. Spencer Horwitz had a clutch hit to get them to extras. Marcell Ozuna had a very slow double-play groundout. How much of this do fans put on Don Kelly? A caller had us recollecting a legendary pro wrestling promo.

NFL Draft analyst Ryan Wilson from CBS Sports joined the show. How could things break for the Steelers next Thursday in the 1st round of the NFL Draft? Ryan doesn't expect more than 3 WRs to be off the board, with the top guys like Carnell Tate and Makai Lemon as the only obvious ones. Ryan thinks the WR group is so deep that you can still find a future WR1 in the 2nd round. Ryan believes Vega Ioane is a potential Top 10 pick by the time we get there. Ryan pointed to Germie Bernard as a find entering the second night. What type of prospect is Spencer Fano and could he be a real option for the Steelers at 21? Ryan would not be stunned if the Steelers trade back into the 1st round if Ty Simpson is still on the board at the end of the night. What do some of these other offensive linemen look like that could be late risers before next Thursday? Ryan believes it could be injuries that push Jordyn Tyson down the board, who may be the best WR in the draft otherwise. Ryan said Jermod McCoy could be a name at 21 that attracts the Steelers. Taylen Green is one of the most intriguing prospects in the draft class, but what is his value as a great athlete that can't play QB all that well? Ryan said if you need to ask if any of these QBs are better than Will Howard then you probably shouldn't draft one. Ioane feels like a Ravens pick at 14, but he could slip to the Steelers.
