They offer Ben their thoughts on where the main challenges may lie, the lessons they have learned whilst on their own, respective journeys, where we should be focusing our energies and priorities right now, and why they feel general practice (and primary care as a whole) has what it takes to succeed in a wider and a possibly less level playing field.   Intro (9 secs) Meeting Nicola Decker (1 min 4 secs) Nicole's remit and experience (2 mins 5 secs) …and her take on what ICSs are and how she feels they differ from CCGs (2 mins 45 secs) Nicola's views on the newer models of care (4 mins 12 secs) Organisation of resources, having influence and establishment of a voice within a larger system (5 mins 25 secs) How do we enable general practice to be an effective partner? In this episode, we talk about a big part of Mint Condition: Collectable Card Games (CCG). We share our memories about getting into gaming at Mint, the different card games we played, the type of social group it created at the store, and the conversation also leads to other thoughts about collecting and life in general. We also finally answered a listener question from Sean McNally that was posted in our Facebook group in March and going forward we will answer questions in a timelier manner. So please reach out to us through the Facebook group, Instagram or email. 00:00 We start our conversation about Collectable Card Gaming (CCG) at Mint Condition. Joe begins the conversation by talking about his memories of gaming at the store, then Chris shares his original foray into playing CCGs. 10:00 James begins to recount how he got into CCGs. We end up taking a slight detour into collecting in general and how we still collected comics, even when the books were not that good. 17:00 The conversation turns to the notion of needing a break from feverishly collecting anything as a hobby. We talk about how collecting habits change and how those habits are changed by different priorities in life. 23:40 Joe asks James and Chris if there were any CCG crossovers. Joe also asks Chris and James why many games are based on fantasy and not on other genres. This opens up a discussion about who plays these games versus the perception of who plays these games, game design, and some of Chris' ideas for game creation. 36:15 Joe also asks whether or not games like Magic: The Gathering were as complex as they seemed and whether or not that was an intentional design choice. This opens a broader conversation about the possibility that this perception is more about how someone teaches you the game vs how complex the rules of the game actually are. Chris compares how he would teach someone to play Magic: The Gathering now as opposed to twenty years ago, and this leads into a conversation about meeting people where they are at when teaching. 52:25 We ask Joe to finish a story about the “Big Figure” controversy in Hero Clix, leading us back to discussing good game design vs bad game design and where making money fits into the conversation. 57:10 We finally answer a question that was posted on the Facebook page from Sean Mcnally: “Who is the most powerful superhero in our opinion, that is not Superman because he is too overpowered.” 1:07:25 We end the show with our audience recommendations.

So what is the Postcode lottery?  Well we've been talking about it here on the podcast for years ( since we started to be honest ) and if you'd like to hear previous episodes on it here is https://www.thefertilitypodcast.com/episode17/ (Susan Seenan) the former CEO of Fertility Network in 2015 Then we spoke about it in 2017 when Fertility Network launched its https://www.thefertilitypodcast.com/ep-74-the-right-to-try-when-needing-fertility-treatment/ (Right to Try campaign). So you can see, this issue has been impacting our access to treatment for a long time.  What is going on is that your postcode impacts how many rounds of NHS funded treatment you are eligible, despite the NICE guidelines being that you SHOULD have 3 rounds of IVF treatment Natalie was fortunate to be living in an area where she did have this and had her son Phoenix, with the help of NHS funding. Sadly this isn't the case for a lot of you.  Our first guest is Amber Izzo, a fertility patient advocate, blogger, and campaigner, founder of https://www.instagram.com/fightforivf/ (Fight for IVF) and Innovation Fertility. We spoke to Amber on 6th July, ahead of her hearing from the CCG in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough who had been reviewing their IVF policy about whether they were going to reinstate funding  Amber started it due to not having any access to NHS-funded treatment.. when she started there were 6 that didn't offer any, now there are 3.  Mid Essex Bassildon and Brentwood Cambridge and Peterborough  Have a listen here to a https://www.thefertilitypodcast.com/tea-break-pod-how-you-can-lobby-your-ccg/ (previous episode) we shared in 2020, where another listener Laura had success lobbying her CCG The issue is that over 80% of CCGs don't adhere to the NICE Guidelines which is why the Fight for Ivf campaign picked up a lot of momentum. Amber's local MP's in Cambridge was on board as he had personal experience )had a cross-party letter to the CCG, which secured a meeting in 2021 to secure the review. She had gained great exposure with media coverage on Sky and BBC and the petition is currently on 30k signatures. You can sign it https://www.thepetitionsite.com/259/042/845/demand-an-end-to-the-ivf-postcode-lottery/ (here)  People are being refused to fund because the CCG has put in their own criteria, such as if your partner has a child already. You can appeal this. Amber has asked her GP to put on her notes if he refuses any of the tests she asks for, so there is proof of what she has requested and she can find out more about why they said no.  Watch Amber and her husband Marco hearing about the CCG's decision https://www.instagram.com/p/CRB8P9jCv1h/ (here). So what other options are there for treatment? We spoke with Marta Jansa Perez, Director of Embryology at BPAS Fertility, who are launching their BPAS FERTILITY later in 2021 Please note we do talk about Implantation failure in this episode.  Marta joined BPAS as she always felt strongly there was a need to help people and she joined BPAS to help create their not for profit service as they felt there was a gap in the market for people who can't access NHS...  See https://acast.com/privacy (acast.com/privacy) for privacy and opt-out information.
