The Clockworks released an under the radar classic in 2023... do they agree with the Song 2 theory? For our second episode of Season 3 we are chatting with Sean Connelly of the exciting Irish band The Clockworks, whose debut album Exit Strategy, is a tightly woven collection of atmospheric indie rock tunes, that will find a much wider audience as more and more fans get onboard. Sean is, though, not joining our club, stating quite succinctly that the penultimate song on a record is easily the best. So, I am one-nil down and one week into the season. Let's hear what Sean had to say…
James and Damian from The Clockworks joined me for this episode. As a storm thunders up the coast to Lovecraft, Massachusetts, the Keepers of the Keys face Dodge a final time, under three hundred feet of stone, in the darkness before the Black Door. Here, water will mix with blood and The Drowning Cave will become a colossal grave. Lucas 'Dodge' Caravaggio returns from the Drowning Cave, infected by a parasite of the soul; the good and loving friend has been left behind, and replaced by something free of all human feeling. Searching for a way to control him, the Keepers of the Keys make a dreadful choice... and set off a chain of events that will end in an unimaginable slaughter. The tamers of The Tempest -- Rendell Locke, Dodge Caravaggio, and their friends -- descend into the Drowning Cave to open the Black Door, hoping to get their hands on some of the fabled whispering iron, the material from which all of the keys are forged. And everything goes according to plan! Not. With the Timeshift Key in their hands, the past is an open book to the Locke children. It's time for answers; it's time for the truth. And now that Dodge knows where Tyler has been hiding the key to the black door, time is running out... Colonel Adam Crais's minutemen are literally trapped between a rock and a hard place; in the first days of the Revolutionary War, they find themselves hiding beneath 120 feet of New England stone, with a full regiment of redcoats waiting for them in the daylight... and a door into hell in the cavern below. The black door is open, and it's up to a 16-year-old smith named Ben Locke to find a way to close it. But you always see the same type of people being interviewed - mainstream musicians, actors, directors, published authors, sure, we want to know more about these people, but isn't there more? There are so many interesting ways of creating art that you'd never see on an interview podcast. What about the remixers, ASMR creators, professional Minecraft builders, professional D&D Dungeon Masters, cosplayers, and fanfiction writers? There is so much more to the world of the internet. With this, I invite you to join me on a journey as I interview these types of people to see what makes their brains tick, to see what inspires them, to see what they struggle with as artists, to see how they create their art, and to inspire you to do so yourself.
