In episode 103 (not 104!) PJ and Gareth welcome Nick from Underdog Games to this week's episode. Nick recently posted about how a good strategy game has emergent qualities players can only discover with experience and we discuss this as well as top tips for boardgame design. Nick explains "Often, the first few times you play a strategy game, you'll think some action optimal, but then later discover you were misvaluing something, or missing a possibility. After realising this, you discover the game has richer and more complicated decisions than it seemed at first. Nick goes on to say "This is a key reason good strategy games tend to get better with more plays. However, we live among a tremendous abundance of games, where many of us won't play each game enough to experience it at its best."
