Someone begins leaving ghost stories for me inside of my little library. These creepy tales come together to tell of the accursed and haunted life of a woman named Hazel. However, when the stories begin to hit a little to close to home, I know it's time to figure out who is leaving and why. Each week, I share the stories with you. And maybe we can figure out what is going on, together. Website: https://theaccursed.com/ Binge on all of our audio shows at atlantafringe.org/fringe-audio or wherever you enjoy podcasts.
In Galatians 1:6-9, Paul has some of the most intense, harsh, powerful words against those who teach FALSE "gospels"... and he is deadly serious.

Can you help me understand James 2:14-26? Our works might be burned up at the final judgment (1 Corinthians 3)? If we don't love Jesus enough, we might be accursed (1 Corinthians 16:22)?

Last year, someone began leaving stories for me inside of the little library that sits at the end of my drive…ghostly, creepy, interwoven stories. 1 or 2 a week... All coming together to weave a tapestry of an accursed and haunted life. I don't know who's leaving them. Or why. But I think it's time I figure that out. Each week, I'll share a few of the stories with you. And maybe we can figure out what is going on together. Or at the very least, you'll get to hear a good ghost story. What happens when the gospel is distorted? In Galatians chapter 1, verses 1 through 10, the apostle Paul delivers one of the strongest warnings in all of Scripture: “Let him be accursed.” This is not mild correction — this is divine seriousness. In this teaching, we examine why Paul places such weight on the purity of the gospel, what he means by “another gospel,” and why altering the message of grace is not a small matter but a spiritual catastrophe. You'll see how Paul's words confront false teaching, defend apostolic authority, and remind the church that the gospel is not ours to modify. If you care about sound doctrine, biblical truth, and understanding the real stakes of preaching Christ rightly, this study of Galatians 1:1–10 is essential.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/lets-talk-scripture/donations

The Apostle Paul was moved with such compassion for his unbelieving countrymen that he was willing to be accursed of God for the sake of their salvation. Jesus Christ had such compassion for us that he did go to the cross to be cut off from his Father and was made to be a curse for us to secure our salvation. Does his compassion for you motivate you to reach Jew and Gentile alike with his glorious gospel? Tune in to hear Dr. Barnhouse on Dr. Barnhouse and the Bible. Episode 3 of On The Record once again proves that no matter how long you've worked in media, technology will always sense weakness. Once operational, the episode quickly becomes a rallying cry for the quietly furious demographic known as Grumpy Older Men Who Have Had It With Banks. Michael officially embraces his new identity after discovering his bank changed everything without warning, while Brian counters with tales of frozen debit cards, vanished tellers, and the most devastating bank exit in history... From there, the conversation widens—considerably. There's a surprisingly heartfelt discussion about the best technology of 2025, which turns out not to be AI, crypto or anything with a subscription fee, but a lightweight laptop, a digital library card, and apps that simply work. Radical. Travel takes centre stage next, with Michael recounting a punishing but transcendent hike through Albania's Accursed Mountains, involving donkeys, snow-capped peaks, dodgy knees and a journey that somehow includes minibuses, boats and a black Mercedes. Brian counters with a pitch for Tulsa, Oklahoma—a city with no tourists, no traffic, a Bob Dylan Centre, a Woody Guthrie Centre, and an offer to pay you $10,000 to move there (family approval not guaranteed). Music eventually breaks through—this is a Rhythms podcast after all—with Christmas gift recommendations ranging from Mavis Staples and Paul Kelly to Dylan box sets, Patti Smith anniversaries, Springsteen gloom, and vinyl for hipsters aged anywhere between 30 and 60. There are also book tips, documentary detours, and a shared belief that Brad Pitt shirtless does not automatically equal a good movie. By the end, Episode 3 has covered banks, libraries, hiking, Dylan, Tulsa, laptops, Formula One, Christmas shopping and the philosophy of buying technology like a V8 Mustang—all without ever fully sticking to a plan. Which, frankly, is exactly the plan. Questions about whether anyone who tithes is not a Christian and is accursed since Paul says that if you obey one part of the Mosaic Law you're obligated to obey all of it, and the claim that tithing preceded the Law and therefore remains a principle for the church today. Since Paul says that if you obey one part of the Law to please God you're obligated to obey all of it, does that mean that anyone who tithes is not a Christian and is accursed? How would you respond to the claim that tithing preceded the Law of Moses, as evidenced by Abraham giving a tenth to Melchizedek in Genesis 14, and therefore remains a principle for the church today?
Learn the four things that God sets aside that can make you accursed if you don't do them

For those who need neither the entire play nor the discrete Acts of Accursed Philoctetes, here are Parts I & II. Part I addresses events which lead to the abadonment of Philoctetes on Lemnos. Part II the fraught return of the Greeks to retrieve Philoctetes and the bow. Enjoy these iterations of Accursed Philoctetes.

This is the full, extended version of Accursed Philoctetes. How and why you may ask could there be a full play about a spinoff story from the Trojan War Cycle? How and why would you find this myth about a middling Greek hero whose fame/notoriety is due to the stench from an infected foot worthy of your or anyone else's attention? Philoctetes is not exactly heroic, more of a victim, and he whines alot about his mistreatment, but on the other hand he does have a point. He was treated shabbily by his Greek peers, especially when he has, in his possession, the arms of mighty Hercules. Good questions. Listen in and maybe after that, you'll understand. Or maybe not. "Creator'"s note: apologies that I did not enlist other actors in this production, but my usual suspects have gotten oldier and busier and I was reluctant to disturb. Consider this then a template should any one feel a burning desire to do this unwieldy thing justice. In the meantime, I will slink back into my cave, sans, of course, the bow of Hercules.
In this final episode of Accursed Philoctetes, the son of Achilles, Neoptolemus, attempts to regain the lost trust of Philoctetes and thereby help the desperate Greek cause. Will Phil listen or has he been burned too much to be reasonable, much less rational? Is there really a cure for what ails Philoctetes?Physically? Psychically?Speaking of sanity, what advice does the bow of Hercules offer Phil?In the end, does Philoctetes get his revenge on Diomedes and Odysseus? Can Philoctetes trust any Greek? How about the son of Achilles, Neoptolemus? Are there second acts in ancient Greece?Listen in for answers to your questions and the questions above. Thank you againf or tuning in and embracing the strange.
A statement and some questions.FOMO is real. But often buried beneath that fear is the hope of inclusion or even a do over. In this episode of Accursed Philoctetes the Greek heroes Odysseus and Diomedes, who abandoned Philoctetes years ago, return to the isolated cave where he had previously sequestered himself. What kind of a reception will he give them?Does he still have his sanity intact? After nine years of foot festering, why have they come back now? What has changed? Is it true that Troy cannot be taken without the bow AND the man?Is this a second chance for Philoctetes? Can he actually be cured of his affliction?Could there be an end to his FOMO if he can forgive those who betrayed him previously? Can he forgive after 9 years of torment? Isn't vengeance more likely the tune on his bow?Can he listen to another Greek hero's overtures?Tune in to find answers to all your questions in Act III of Accursed Philoctetes.
In this episode of Accursed Philoctetes, two great Greeks, Odysseus and Diomedes, heroes in their own right even before they reach Troy, must make the difficult decision to bring nasty Philoctetes along or not. Without driving their crews to mutiny. Without getting shot themselves by Philoctetes. With or without the legendary bow of Hercules. With or without Philoctetes's permission. With or without Philoctetes himself. Without incurring Hera's wrath on themselves. Without shedding Philoctetes's Greek blood.Enjoy learning more of the myth in this episode of Accursed Philoctetes.
This is the first episode of Accursed Philoctetes, an updated myth from the Trojan War cycle. In Act I, a famous Greek archer, Philoctetes, gets bitten by a snake - sent by Hera - on the island of Lemnos as the Greek army is heading to Troy to avenge the dishonor done to one of their own. The snakebit gets infected and fetid and completely incapitates him and unsettles his fellow sailors to the point that the Greek forces must consider leaving him behind on their way to Troy. How and why does Philoctetes get singled out for this particular punishment? What does it matter to the Greeks if he were to be left behind? What are lifeboat ethics anyway? Explore the beginnings of this strange story of my Accursed / A Cursed Philoctetes. Trigger warnings: disgusting wound imagery, some noisesome howling and realistic depictions of abandonment and FOMO.There is a certain universality to his experience despite the great goddess Hera and the snake.Enjoy?

"The Accursed Isle" is a short story by Mary Elizabeth Counselman, first published in the November 1933 edition of Weird Tales. "A hideous fear clutched the hearts of the seven castaways on that accursed isle as they were slain, one by one."

Israel hath sinned, and they have also transgressed my covenant which I commanded them: for they have even taken of the accursed thing, and have also stolen, and dissembled also, and they have put it even among their own stuff.JOS.7:12 Therefore the children of Israel could not stand before their enemies, but turned their backs before their enemies, because they were accursed: neither will I be with you any more, except ye destroy the accursed from among you.JOS.7:13 Up, sanctify the people, and say, Sanctify yourselves against to morrow: for thus saith the LORD God of Israel, There is an accursed thing in the midst of thee, O Israel: thou canst not stand before thine enemies, until ye take away the accursed thing from among you.JOS.7:14 In the morning therefore ye shall be brought according to your tribes: and it shall be, that the tribe which the LORD taketh shall come according to the families thereof; and the family which the LORD shall take shall come by households; and the household which the LORD shall take shall come man by man.JOS.7:15 And it shall be, that he that is taken with the accursed thing shall be burnt with fire, he and all that he hath: because he hath transgressed the covenant of the LORD, and because he hath wrought folly in Israel.JOS.7:16 So Joshua rose up early in the morning, and brought Israel by their tribes; and the tribe of Judah was taken:JOS.7:17 And he brought the family of Judah; and he took the family of the Zarhites: and he brought the family of the Zarhites man by man; and Zabdi was taken:JOS.7:18 And he brought his household man by man; and Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, was taken.JOS.7:19 And Joshua said unto Achan, My son, give, I pray thee, glory to the LORD God of Israel, and make confession unto him; and tell me now what thou hast done; hide it not from me.JOS.7:20 And Achan answered Joshua, and said, Indeed I have sinned against the LORD God of Israel, and thus and thus have I done:JOS.7:21 When I saw among the spoils a goodly Babylonish garment, and two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold of fifty shekels weight, then I coveted them, and took them; and, behold, they are hid in the earth in the midst of my tent, and the silver under it.JOS.7:22 So Joshua sent messengers, and they ran unto the tent; and, behold, it was hid in his tent, and the silver under it.JOS.7:23 And they took them out of the midst of the tent, and brought them unto Joshua, and unto all the children of Israel, and laid them out before the LORD.JOS.7:24 And Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan the son of Zerah, and the silver, and the garment, and the wedge of gold, and his sons, and his daughters, and his oxen, and his asses, and his sheep, and his tent, and all that he had: and they brought them unto the valley of Achor.JOS.7:25 And Joshua said, Why hast thou troubled us? the LORD shall trouble thee this day. And all Israel stoned him with stones, and burned them with fire, after they had stoned them with stones.JOS.7:26 And they raised over him a great heap of stones unto this day. “Absalom the Accursed” - a lesson on the importance of being on the side of God's chosen King, and the cost of defying God's chosen King. Music: Psalm 124, paraphrased by Toby Logsdon.
Joshua 7:16-26 "The Accursed Things" - Matt Freeman by Matt Freeman
The Apostle Paul was moved with such compassion for his unbelieving countrymen that he was willing to be accursed of God for the sake of their salvation. Jesus Christ had such compassion for us that he did go to the cross to be cut off from his Father and was made to be a curse for us to secure our salvation. Does his compassion for you motivate you to reach Jew and Gentile alike with his glorious gospel? Tune in to hear Dr. Barnhouse on Dr. Barnhouse and the Bible. Send us a textWhat's the meaning of life? Why is there pain and suffering? How do you balance justice and love? These "accursed questions" have haunted humanity for centuries. Fyodor Dostoevsky sought to answer these questions through his characters' lives. His answers are prophetic for our time.In this episode, I sit down with Northwestern University professor of Russian literature Gary Saul Morson. We discuss what Dostoevsky reveals about developing intellectual honesty, how to deal with suffering and brokenness, as well as his arguments for and against God. His latest book, Wonder Confronts Certainty: Russian Writers on the Timeless Questions and Why Their Answers Matter, sets the stage for this interview sets the stage for this interview.Topics:The "Accursed Questions" of Russian LiteratureDostoevsky's Intellectual Honesty with FaithBattle-Testing Worldviews through FictionThe Dangers of Abstracting IndividualsNotes from Underground: Human Freedom vs DeterminismThe Core of Ethics: Human Surprisingness"What books have had an impact on you?""What advice do you have for teenagers?Bio:Gary Saul Morson is Lawrence B. Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen. Almighty God have mercy on you, forgive you all your sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen you in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep you in eternal life. Amen. The InvitatoryLord, open our lips. And our mouth shall proclaim your praise.Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen. Alleluia. Venite (Psalm 95:1-7)Our King and Savior now draws near: Come, let us adore him.Come, let us sing to the Lord; * let us shout for joy to the Rock of our salvation.Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving * and raise a loud shout to him with psalms. For the Lord is a great God, * and a great King above all gods.In his hand are the caverns of the earth, * and the heights of the hills are his also. The sea is his, for he made it, * and his hands have molded the dry land.Come, let us bow down, and bend the knee, * and kneel before the Lord our Maker. For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture and the sheep of his hand. *Oh, that today you would hearken to his voice! Our King and Savior now draws near: Come, let us adore him. The PsalterPsalm 50Deus deorumBCP p. 654The Lord, the God of gods, has spoken; *he has called the earth from the rising of the sun to its setting.Out of Zion, perfect in its beauty, *God reveals himself in glory. Our God will come and will not keep silence; *before him there is a consuming flame, and round about him a raging storm. He calls the heavens and the earth from above *to witness the judgment of his people.“Gather before me my loyal followers, *those who have made a covenant with meand sealed it with sacrifice.”Let the heavens declare the rightness of his cause; *for God himself is judge.Hear, O my people, and I will speak:“O Israel, I will bear witness against you; *for I am God, your God.I do not accuse you because of your sacrifices; *your offerings are always before me.I will take no bull-calf from your stalls, *nor he-goats out of your pens; For all the beasts of the forest are mine, *the herds in their thousands upon the hills.I know every bird in the sky, *and the creatures of the fields are in my sight. If I were hungry, I would not tell you, *for the whole world is mine and all that is in it.Do you think I eat the flesh of bulls, *or drink the blood of goats?Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving *and make good your vows to the Most High.Call upon me in the day of trouble; *I will deliver you, and you shall honor me.”But to the wicked God says: *“Why do you recite my statutes, and take my covenant upon your lips;Since you refuse discipline, *and toss my words behind your back? When you see a thief, you make him your friend, *and you cast in your lot with adulterers. You have loosed your lips for evil, *and harnessed your tongue to a lie.You are always speaking evil of your brother *and slandering your own mother's son. These things you have done, and I kept still, *and you thought that I am like you.”“I have made my accusation; *I have put my case in order before your eyes.Consider this well, you who forget God, *lest I rend you and there be none to deliver you.Whoever offers me the sacrifice of thanksgiving honors me; *but to those who keep in my way will I show the salvation of God.” Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: *as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen. LessonsIsa. 9:18-10:4A Reading from the Book of the Prophet Isaiah. For wickedness burns like a fire; it consumes briers and thorns; it kindles the thickets of the forest, and they roll upward in a column of smoke. Through the wrath of the Lord of hosts the land is scorched, and the people are like fuel for the fire; no one spares another. They slice meat on the right, but are still hungry, and they devour on the left, but are not satisfied; each devours the flesh of his own arm, Manasseh devours Ephraim, and Ephraim devours Manasseh; together they are against Judah. For all this his anger has not turned away, and his hand is stretched out still. Woe to those who decree iniquitous decrees, and the writers who keep writing oppression, to turn aside the needy from justice and to rob the poor of my people of their right, that widows may be their spoil, and that they may make the fatherless their prey! What will you do on the day of punishment, in the ruin that will come from afar? To whom will you flee for help, and where will you leave your wealth? Nothing remains but to crouch among the prisoners or fall among the slain. For all this his anger has not turned away, and his hand is stretched out still. The Word of the Lord. Thanks Be To God. Te Deum laudamusYou are God: we praise you;You are the Lord: we acclaim you;You are the eternal Father:All creation worships you.To you all angels, all the powers of heaven, Cherubim and Seraphim, sing in endless praise:Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. The glorious company of apostles praise you.The noble fellowship of prophets praise you.The white-robed army of martyrs praise you. Throughout the world the holy Church acclaims you;Father, of majesty unbounded, your true and only Son, worthy of all worship, and the Holy Spirit, advocate and guide. You, Christ, are the king of glory, the eternal Son of the Father. When you became man to set us free you did not shun the Virgin's womb. You overcame the sting of deathand opened the kingdom of heaven to all believers. You are seated at God's right hand in glory. We believe that you will come and be our judge.Come then, Lord, and help your people, bought with the price of your own blood, and bring us with your saintsto glory everlasting. 2 Pet. 2:10b-16A Reading from the Second Letter of Peter.and especially those who indulge in the lust of defiling passion and despise authority. Bold and willful, they do not tremble as they blaspheme the glorious ones, whereas angels, though greater in might and power, do not pronounce a blasphemous judgment against them before the Lord. But these, like irrational animals, creatures of instinct, born to be caught and destroyed, blaspheming about matters of which they are ignorant, will also be destroyed in their destruction, suffering wrong as the wage for their wrongdoing. They count it pleasure to revel in the daytime. They are blots and blemishes, reveling in their deceptions, while they feast with you. They have eyes full of adultery, insatiable for sin. They entice unsteady souls. They have hearts trained in greed. Accursed children! Forsaking the right way, they have gone astray. They have followed the way of Balaam, the son of Beor, who loved gain from wrongdoing, but was rebuked for his own transgression; a speechless donkey spoke with human voice and restrained the prophet's madness. Matt. 3:1-12A Reading from the Gospel According to Matthew. In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” For this is he who was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah when he said, “The voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord; make his paths straight.'” Now John wore a garment of camel's hair and a leather belt around his waist, and his food was locusts and wild honey. Then Jerusalem and all Judea and all the region about the Jordan were going out to him, and they were baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins. But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, “You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Bear fruit in keeping with repentance. And do not presume to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father,' for I tell you, God is able from these stones to raise up children for Abraham. Even now the axe is laid to the root of the trees. Every tree therefore that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. “I baptize you with water for repentance, but he who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor and gather his wheat into the barn, but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire.”The Word of the Lord. Thanks Be To God. Benedictus Dominus DeusBlessed be the Lord, the God of Israel; * he has come to his people and set them free.He has raised up for us a mighty savior, * born of the house of his servant David.Through his holy prophets he promised of old, that he would save us from our enemies, * from the hands of all who hate us. He promised to show mercy to our fathers * and to remember his holy covenant. This was the oath he swore to our father Abraham, * to set us free from the hands of our enemies, Free to worship him without fear, * holy and righteous in his sight all the days of our life. You, my child, shall be called the prophet of the Most High, * for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way, To give his people knowledge of salvation * by the forgiveness of their sins.In the tender compassion of our God * the dawn from on high shall break upon us, To shine on those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death, * and to guide our feet into the way of peace.Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. The Apostles CreedI believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again.
