Limited word space here now. Story of my life in the cyber realm, always 568 characters too many, which is shite when you think about it. Life is longer than a soundbite. Six movies today, let's go! (Mind Snatchers 1972) is a movie about the military doing mind experiments on violent jerks starring Christopher Walken, and Cohaagen from Total Recall. (The Car 1977) is a movie about how a hick town deals with a demon possessed car that enjoys killing, and it stars the cool lady from skateboard the movie, Josh Brolin's Dad, and Crappy Captain Jellico from Star Trek the next generation. (Julia 1977) is a movie about early anti fascist activists fighting back against the Nazi's, and starring Barbarella, and Vanessa the Red. (Lady of the House 1978) is a movie that tells the true story of Sally Stanford played by Dyan Cannon, where Fierce ass Sally becomes the first Madam to become Mayor, and all to avoid the red tape of zoning laws so she can build a cool deck. (Laser Blast 1978) is a film about 2 stoners tryin to enjoy the sunshine in southern Cali, but asshats just keep harassing their mellow, enter 1 sweet Laser gun. Laser Blast stars Kim Milford, Kathy Farlye, that awesome guy from ALL the planet of the apes stuff, and a Star Wars billboard! Finally today your decade under the influence crew gives 10's across the board to (Best Boy 1979) it won the Oscar for best documentary, and in their acceptance speech William Shatner was a dick to the film makers, so I kept my vintage STTMP Captain Kirk action figure in my bag that day. Thanks for listening friends, please give us all the stars, and reach out eh. Why not?

A remake of the film Total Recall (1990), author Philip K. Dick's classic Sci-Fi short story We Can Remember It for You Wholesale returns to the big screen starring Colin Farrell, Bryan Cranston, and Kate Beckinsale, and directed by Underworld's Len Wiseman. The planet has been decimated by chemical war in the late 21st century, leaving only two nations -- the United Federation of Britain and the Colony. Douglas Quaid (Farrell) is a factory worker with a stable job and a loving wife (Beckinsale), but upon learning that a company named Rekall could grant him the memory of the ultimate espionage adventure, he decides to take a virtual vacation. But in the midst of having the new memories implanted, something goes haywire. He's branded a spy, the authorities close in, and he quickly flees for his life. Later, Quaid discovers that his life and memories were implanted. He joins forces with rebel soldier Melina (Jessica Biel) on a mission to track down Matthias (Bill Nighy), the head of a resistance movement that's been labeled a terrorist organization by the tyrannical Chancellor Cohaagen (Bryan Cranston). Cohaagen seeks to control the entire free world. The harder Quaid fights to defeat him, the clearer it becomes that his memory had been altered long before he walked into Rekall.

In 1990 we got gifted another Paul Verhoeven classic, Total Recall.  Total Recall stars Arnold Schwarzenegger (I spelled that right the first time!) as Quaid and/or Hauser, depending on your reality, a bored married man who is drawn to the violent and remote base on Mars for some much-needed vacation. When Quaid enters a Recall facility, a company that implants experiences on your memory, he begins to have some memory flashes and is attacked on his way home.  Once home he finds that his wife has been a fake, a member of the evil Cohaagen’s forces the whole time and was only an implant on his memory. He becomes a crossdresser and heads to Mars to find answers. Once there he gets ingrained in the resistance and the story becomes very confusing.  Is this real life? Is this just fantasy? Caught in a Mars fight, no escape from reality. Exploding your eyes, look up to the skies and seeeeeee, that we have no freaking idea what’s happening!!  Cohaagen has been holding on tight to Mars oxygen levels and the resistance has been fighting against him and his oppressive reign. Quaid works with the rebels and meets the horrid stomach baby monster Quato, the leader of the resistance, and Cohaagen’s forces bust in. Quaid later finds out that he either is or isn’t Hauser, a double agent of Cohaagen and has been assisting him all along using a really confusing and convoluted plot to root out the rebels.  Anywho, there is a big iceberg melting machine which will instantly provide Mars with an atmosphere you can breathe instead of just exploding your face and maybe they use that, maybe they don’t. What’s it to you? Total Recall was an absolute blockbuster and made $261 million off of a $60 million budget and was received well by critics and fans alike due to its creative story and Verhoeven brand of ultra-violence. But, does it hold up? Listen in as Jon, Colin, and Brent discuss the potential back issues of three tittied women and how to circumcise a face as we try to determine if this one holds up or if we should totally recall all copies.

No dialogue, none. Just Arnold screams. Wow, this is going to be a good movie. And then, Arnold eyes bulging out of a prosthetic Arnold face. Okay, I get it. This is going to be one of the best movies ever made.Hello listener, let's take an Interstellar trip.Doug Quaid (not to be confused with Dennis) is just an average, blue collar Austrian-American living in the future. He has an attractive wife and while he doesn't love his job, it's stable. But there's one thing in life he really wants, like, really really wants. And that's to go to Mars. However, since Hey Arnold can't afford a trip to Mars, he goes on a mind trip by way of a memory Inception device which spurs him to remember that he is a secret agent who had worked for Cohaagen but had switched allegiance to Kuato. Just so you're aware, Cohaagen is a man and Kuato is a speaking wart. Nonetheless, once the Memento of Quaid's old life comes back to him, he is hunted down like a beast, on earth, on mars, in the bright day, and during the Dark Knight. As he learns more about his Prestigeious career as a Cohaagen crony, he sympathizes more and more with the Dunquirky mutants of mars, like the "three breasted prostitute", and attempts to free them from the Danish yoke of Cohaagen by starting the reactor and making oxygen.Listener, this description is no doubt a confusing mess, But man Begins to understand the story more when one considers whether the entire story is but an illusion, an empty memory made to make old Quaid feel good about his life. Despite what the most accurate reading of the film is, two things are for certain: science fiction can really comment on the intricacies of humanity and Paul Verhoeven (not to be confused with Cohaagen) is a goddamn genius.Thank you for joining us listener. And if you must listen to one thing today, please listen to Arnold screaming. Also, Dean Norris is in this film and II'm pretty sure his character from Breaking Bad - Hank Schrader - suffered from Insomnia.

This week we’re not sure if we are a duo of fun loving freedom fighters or evil spies for a dictatorial government.  Maybe we’re both?  Maybe we shouldn’t have had to watch this movie; 2012’s remake of Total Recall starring Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel.  The story is inspired by a Philip K. Dick short story and the 1990 Paul Verhoeven sci-fi classic by the same name.  The film follows Doug Quaid as he tries to understand the true meaning of a recurring nightmare and help find a sense of fulfillment.  He visits a company called Rekall that claims to be able to implant memories in people’s minds that will rival their wildest fantasies.  Just as Doug is about the got through the procedure, the police burst in and Doug’s journey to figure out his past begins.  He soon learns that no one in his life is as they appear to be and he finds himself on the run.  He meets up with a woman named Melina, whom he knows but cannot remember.  He is brought back to meet with the resistance and learns that he was bait in a plot to kill Mathias, the rebel leader.  Doug will not accept the things he is being told by his ex-wife Lori or the evil Cohaagen and decides to help Melina avenge her father and prevent an invasion of The Colony.  Why did they make this movie?  The 1990 version is so much better.  It looks like crap and you can tell the budget was spent on stars and special effects.  Thankfully there won’t be a sequel to this film.

Tysto film commentaries

Join me for what is not my favorite movie but nevertheless a classic part of the Schwarzenegger oeuvre. I compare it to The 6th Day and other films and explain where it goes off the rails regardless of which story you believe: the dream story, the reality story, or the alternate reality story, or even the alternate-alternate reality story. I pity the poor rats. I try to find the point the movie may stray from reality. I say "If this is reality..." too many times and get distracted by Sharon Stone. And I get carried away with saying that Paul Verhoeven got carried away with the head games. I don't bother much with the "science", but I do make fun of Cohaagen's henchmen being the worst secret agents ever. And, at some point, I believe I may have suffered a schizoid embolism.
