Pat Johnston uses the opening segment examining the massive cuts The Trump Regime's Elon Musk is leveling on the National Weather Service. It's happening as Michigan's already experienced 25 tornadoes this year, and when tornadoes are increasing across the country thanks to climate change. Why is Elon gutting an essential service that helps warn people of incoming threatening storms, and when climate change is hitting every part of the country? Why? 11:48-38:32: MAGA Murder Budget Republicans passed the MAGA Murder Budget, which guts programs such as Medicaid, Medicare, and SNAP while providing lavished tax breaks for Elon Musk, Betsy Devos, and the entire untouchable elite donor class. Pat explains why he backs calling it the MAGA Murder Budget, and asks where has safe moderation gotten Democrats in the last 50 years as MAGA Republicans embrace fascism by the day. And how does granting more tax breaks for rich people, and for corporations, amount to Republicans being the populist party? 38:33-42:40: Last Call on Dying Democrats In the "Last Call," Pat covers the most recent death of a Democratic congressman, and how the three deaths of Democrats in Congress helped Republicans pass their MAGA Murder Budget. Maybe DNC Vice Chair is correct in advocating for some new blood in the Democratic caucus. 43:01-44:42: Ending Please, subscribe to the podcast, download each episode, and give it a good review if you can! leftoflansing@gmail.com Left of Lansing is now on YouTube as well! leftoflansing.com NOTES: "Whitmer requests federal disaster aid for northern Michigan ice storm damage." How can John James run for governor if he's too afraid to face his own constituents who are angry with how Dear Leader Trump & Republicans are gutting Social Security and Medicaid while passing massive tax breaks for the corporate donor base. And Pat isn't real enthused by Democratic Congresswoman Haley Stevens's U.S. Senate run, and he explains why. 20:04-44:56: Dr. Jeffrey Insko Line 5 Interview Dr. Jeffrey Insko of The Current joins Pat to discuss the Trump Regime's fast-tracking of a tunnel project designed to keep the Line 5 pipeline operational for Canadian energy company Enbridge. The 72-year old pipeline is in poor shape, and a major leak or spill could spell doom for the health of the Great Lakes and Michigan's economy. Dr. Insko explains the decades of corporate and government corruption keeping Line 5 operating, and putting Michiganders at risk. 44:57-50:13: Last Call-MAGA Wants Tax On Rich? In the "Last Call," Pat explains why some MAGA Republicans, like former Trump strategist Steve Bannon, are pushing Republicans to pass a tax on millionaires and billionaires. Robbi Mecus, a New York State Forest Ranger, was a significant figure in the queer climbing community. Before her death in a climbing accident in Alaska in April 2024, she actively fostered a welcoming and inclusive environment for LGBTQ+ individuals in the sport.   Robbi co-founded the Adirondack Queer Ice Fest in 2022, an annual event that created a dedicated space for queer and transgender people to connect and enjoy ice climbing. This festival aimed to reduce the isolation often experienced by queer and trans climbers.   As an out transgender woman who came out in her mid-40s while working as a Forest Ranger, Robbi became a visible and inspiring role model. She demonstrated that it was possible to pursue demanding outdoor professions and passions while living authentically. Her visibility helped challenge societal norms and provided an example for others who may not have seen representation in the climbing and outdoor communities.   Mecus also used her public platform as a Forest Ranger to advocate for LGBTQ+ inclusion. She was involved in organizing pride events and was outspoken about her identity. Her efforts extended to her work within the Department of Environmental Conservation, where she was recognized for advancing diversity and LGBTQ+ belonging.   Through her actions and initiatives, Robbi Mecus had a profound impact on the queer climbing community, creating spaces, fostering inclusivity, and serving as an inspiring figure for many. Her legacy continues to be honored within the climbing and LGBTQ+ communities.Listen now to hear about Robbi final adventure, and the impact she had on the queer community around her. The outdoors are a beautiful that can be filled with light and bliss and many different ways to bring yourself closer to those you love and yourself. David Horsey - Seattle Times The Musk coup is moving forward with minimal signs of effective opposition. Congressional Republicans are rolling over complacently while the Musk teenage Ninjas storm federal offices, and Democrats do little other than scream. A lot of federal employees deemed insufficiently loyal to the Mar-a-Lago golf pro are being fired, laid off or encouraged to quit … meaning literally millions of hours of professional expertise will be lost, replaced by True Believers. In Michigan, the race for the U.S. Senate is beginning to take form in both parties. We take a deep dive into the likely primary contests. Joining the discussion with an update on the turmoil in the state Legislature is veteran Michigan politics and state government reporter Lauren Gibbons from Bridge Michigan. Prior to joining Bridge's Capitol team, she worked at MLive, where she led coverage of the state Legislature and the redistricting process, and before that covered the state Senate for MIRS News. She has covered the ins and outs of Michigan politics for nearly a decade and has won awards both for her political coverage and her work documenting the Larry Nassar sexual abuse case. Lauren grew up in the Lansing area and graduated from Michigan State University, majoring in journalism and history. She lives in Ferndale, and her party tricks include Irish dancing and telling friends what political districts they live in without looking. She is also an expert on music that highlights Michigan! The first major partisan battle with the new split-control Legislature is underway, with the Senate majority leader suing the Speaker of the House. We begin this week's pod exploring that lawsuit with Majority Leader Winnie Brink's lead attorney in the case: the honorable Mr. Mark Brewer! =========================== This episode is sponsored in part by EPIC ▪ MRA, a full service survey research firm with expertise in • Public Opinion Surveys • Market Research Studies • Live Telephone Surveys • On-Line and Automated Surveys • Focus Group Research • Bond Proposals - Millage Campaigns • Political Campaigns & Consulting • Ballot Proposals - Issue Advocacy Research • Community - Media Relations • Issue - Image Management • Database Development & List Management Joel Heller:Hellertoon.com

The state will soon start competitive bidding on approximately 420 acres of forested land near Gaylord, Michigan, to clear space for a solar farm while generating revenue and advancing the state's long-term green energy targets, Notably, one study published by Harvard researchers found that clearing forests to replace with solar panel developments may actually lead to an overall increase in greenhouse gas emissions, and a paper published by Chinese researchers also reached similar conclusions. There are also oil and gas wellheads in other areas of the woods that remain forested, according to MLive. “This is pretty amazing. Michigan is not like California, it's not like the sun is always shining there,” Dan Kish, a senior research fellow at the Institute for Energy Research, told the Daily Caller News Foundation. “This is the theater of the absurd, and it's all driven by tax credits and giveaways from the federal and state government, and by mandates that the governor there has implemented.” Source: dailycaller.com The Stunning Statistical Fraud Behind The Global Warming Scare Global Warming: The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration may have a boring name, but it has a very important job: It measures U.S. temperatures. Unfortunately, it seems to be a captive of the global warming religion. Its data are fraudulent What do we mean by fraudulent? How about this: NOAA has made repeated "adjustments" to its data, for the presumed scientific reason of making the data sets more accurate. Nothing wrong with that. Except, all their changes point to one thing — lowering previously measured temperatures to show cooler weather in the past, and raising more recent temperatures to show warming in the recent present. This creates a data illusion of ever-rising temperatures to match the increase in CO2 in the Earth's atmosphere since the mid-1800s, which global warming advocates say is a cause-and-effect relationship. The more CO2, the more warming. But the actual measured temperature record shows something different: There have been hot years and hot decades since the turn of the last century, and colder years and colder decades. But the overall measured temperature shows no clear trend over the last century, at least not one that suggests runaway warming. That is, until the NOAA's statisticians "adjust" the data. Using complex statistical models, they change the data to reflect not reality, but their underlying theories of global warming. That's clear from a simple fact of statistics: Data generate random errors,

Gretchen Whitmer, are in serious danger of allowing major pieces of solid progressive legislation languish in favor of lavished corporate subsidies in the Lame Duck session. Satisfying the corporate donor base is apparently more important than passing bills such as affordable housing, polluter pay, criminal justice reform, transit funding, homeless bill of rights, water affordability, and more. 20:50-47:21: Interview w/ MDP Rural Caucus Chair Mark Ludwig The Michigan Democratic Party Rural Caucus Chair Mark Ludwig joins the show to not only talk about what went wrong in 2024, but why he's running to become the MDP's next Chair. A new state report shows abortions in Michigan neared a 30-year high in 2023. However, the report shows non-residents accounted for more of the state's abortions than they did in the previous year or years. As predicted, women from non-freedom states, like Indiana and elsewhere, are traveling to Michigan to receive abortion care, thanks to Michigan's voter-approved abortion rights initiative in 2022 which enshrined abortion rights in the state's constitution. But because of this past election, Republicans are feeling more emboldened than ever, and they will do what they can to make abortion access more difficult.
