Annual Community Christmas Tree Lighting It's time for our fourth annual Community Christmas Tree Lighting and we hope you'll join in the festivities. Please bring an ornament to hang on our virtual tree and be prepared to describe both the ornament and it's significance. Is it handmade or a family heirloom, big or small, made of paper or tin, shiny or sparkly, and does it light up or play music? The lights and garland are already in place. We just need the ornaments and to plug the lights in. And you'll want to be there to learn who is chosen to place the star atop the tree! Find out more at https://acb-community.pinecast.co

To kick off the season of gratitude, I'm shining the spotlight on a wonderful local community initiative that makes Christmas truly special for its guests. The Annual Westchester Community Christmas Dinner was founded on the premise that nobody should be alone or hungry on Christmas Day. This volunteer-driven charitable event has taken place every year on Christmas day since 1994, and each guest receives a hot Christmas dinner, warm clothing, holiday gifts, and a festive welcome from caring volunteers. Head Elf and Vice-President of the board Lauren Kahn Torre joins me this week to share some behind-the-scenes insights into the initiative. Find out how you can get involved with the event and prepare to be inspired by the impact that it creates in the community. On this date in 1923, a strong holiday spirit prevailed in the city of Bismarck as residents made ready for the holiday. The shops in downtown Bismarck had thrummed with activity throughout the season. On this date, a Community Christmas event was set to start, with trumpeters stationed around the city, "adding a touch of the old-time method of observing Christmas, and calling the people to the community gathering."
We're excited to gather together for our favorite parts of Christmas: celebrating the birth of our Savior, gathering with friends, and singing Christmas songs by candlelight.
Public decorations are part of the holiday tradition in towns and communities across the Northwoods. Streets are gaily decorated, and a community Christmas Tree is put up for all to enjoy. But where did this tradition come from?

Roy L Hales / Cortes Currents - Cortes Island had its annual community Christmas Dinner on December 25th. As a result of the COVID shutdown, close to a third of the island's population turned out. It was truly a gourmet delight. Cortes Currents sent Noah Davidson and Izabelle Perry a list of questions, which they chose to answer by email. Imagine this is Noah's voice, rather than mine, reading this out. “After the cancellation of all community events, dances, Easter, and Christmas craft fairs, we really wanted to find a way to not have to cancel Christmas Dinner!” “Community Christmas Dinners at the Gorge Hall have been an annual tradition for as long as anyone can remember. We recently took over the planning and cooking responsibilities from Jim Kearney, who believed that everyone should have the opportunity to gather and enjoy a warm meal together on Christmas Day. We hope that people found the take-out meals were a reasonable alternative to gathering.” “On average, the free Christmas dinner in Whaletown serves around 125 people at the Gorge Hall for a sit-down meal on Christmas Day. Usually, 3 or 4 turkeys are prepared along with the fixings, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, and veggies. The attending community brings a plethora of potluck dishes that really add something special to the dinner.” “This year was different, we served over 300, free take-out style meals from the Floathouse restaurant with no potluck items. We cooked 21 turkeys, stuffing, mashed potatoes and veggies, gravy, and cranberry sauce. We also offered a vegetarian option, with a lentil nut loaf, wild rice stuffing, vegan mashed potatoes, and miso gravy.” The story continues in the podcast Photo courtesy Noah Davidson and Izabelle Perry

Episode 204: Merry Christmas Extravaganza Michael Horn, the authorized American media representative for reclusive Swiss UFO contactee Billy Meier. Michael Horn spoke about Billy Meier's prophesies and contracts with the Plejarians, as well as the controversies surrounding his work as Billy Meier's representative. Horn immediately makes distinctions between what he calls the “lights-in-the-sky”, tabloid-type of UFO stories and Meier's scientifically proven UFO contacts. “While there is now no shortage of strictly anecdotal, as well as completely imaginary tales of so-called UFO contactees, abductions, etc., Meier's are the only substantiated contacts. Because it's the most suppressed – and the most important – story in human history, many people don't know that his clear, daytime UFO photos, films, sound recordings, and metal samples have already been authenticated by scientific experts.” But while Meier's hundreds of examples of still irreducible physical evidence establish it as the only authentic UFO contact case, Horn claims there's an even higher standard of proof. “Billy Meier has published volumes of the most specific, prophetically accurate scientific information in history. We can take the UFOs out of the equation entirely and we're faced with Meier's ironclad information that preempts ‘official discovery', often by decades,” said Horn, “and his warnings about geopolitical events are equally, as well as often disturbingly, accurate.” Michael Horn spoke about Billy Meier's prophesies and contacts with the Plejarians, as well as the controversies surrounding his work as Billy Meier's representative. Michael shared his opinion on disclosure & the UFO Community. Michael asks Mr. Horn why he thinks the Billy Meier case is real, are all other stories no good because they are not scientifically proven? Why just the Billy Meier story? Could things come to an abrupt end after 2020?

What is the meaning of Christmas? In this episode Adrian and Austin discuss why we like Christmas movies and what makes them good. We talk about "classic" Christmas movies and what makes them classic. Finally, we look at the claymation Christmas episode form the TV show Community and talk about how it point to the true meaning of Christmas. Deuteronomy 15:11 NLT 'There will always be some in the land who are poor. That is why I am commanding you to share freely with the poor and with other Israelites in need.' UK government figures estimate that the numbers of people sleeping rough has more than doubled since 2010 ([itals]crisis.org.uk[end itals]). It seems only at Christmas do they become a focus for everyone’s attention. Like Mary and Joseph, there literally is no room for them at any inn. Fortunately there are charities who step in to help. While homelessness is a year-round issue, because we express greater concern around Christmas, now is a good time to plan how we might give a measure of support. The easiest way is to make a donation to organisations such as Crisis at Christmas who work in London, or to charities local to your area that step up at this time of year. Premier partner with Community Christmas to create an interactive map of all the Christmas Day events happening across the UK so people (including the homeless) don’t need to be alone on this day. The Salvation Army works wonders 24/7 throughout the year, running centres and hostels. However, perhaps as an expression of Christian service, you might be prepared to give up some of your Christmas break and volunteer as well. Jayne and I are looking at this now that Mum has relocated to a care home and our daughter has grown up. Obviously, to volunteer takes planning. When is the best time? Is it helping serve meals on Christmas Day? Or volunteering to help set up the temporary accommodation ahead of Christmas? So often we think we would like to help when the Christmas event is on top of us. Planning now affords us the opportunity to secure the information we need, talk to family about our plans and offer some time to volunteer in this way. We can then plan our family Christmas around our voluntary commitment. Of course, we may well continue to volunteer throughout the year as an expression of our Christmas service. QUESTION: What plans can you make to serve someone else, a stranger, this Christmas, and reveal the character of God’s love to others? PRAYER: Merciful Father, help me to serve as you have served, and help those who are homeless to receive the love and help they need.
