In episode 165, we sit down with Rose Lounsbury to talk about why she's running again for the Ohio House and what's at stake for public schools, voting rights, and working families. We dig into vouchers, gerrymandering, healthcare costs, and what it will take to build an Ohio that truly works for everyday families.Rose Lounsbury is running for State Representative in Ohio's House District 36, which includes Kettering, Oakwood, Riverside, East Dayton, and downtown Dayton. A former public school teacher, the daughter of two retired teachers, and the mother of teenage triplets in public school, Rose is deeply committed to protecting and strengthening Ohio's public schools. Her political journey began during the pandemic with the League of Women Voters, where she developed a strong belief that voting rights are the foundation of a healthy democracy. She is committed to fair, accessible elections for all Ohioans.Rose's great-grandfather immigrated to Southeast Ohio in the early 1900s to work in the coal mines, believing Ohio was a place where hard work could lead to a good life. Rose still believes that hardworking families should be able to afford housing, food, and healthcare without fear of financial ruin. This is Rose's second time running for office, and she is running again because the challenges facing Ohio's families are growing—not shrinking. Rose believes Ohio can have strong schools, fair elections, and an economy that works for working people—and she's ready to fight for that future.Resources:* Rose for Ohio* Donate to Rose's Campaign* Follow Rose and her campaign on social media:* Instagram* Facebook* TikTokConnect with United SHE Stands:* Substack* Instagram* TikTok* YouTube* Threads* Buy us a coffee ☕️This episode was edited by Kevin Tanner. This week, we're heading to RHS Garden Wisley to discover how its horticulturists are turning one of the wettest starts to the year on record into a garden that's primed for spring. Team leader Helen Bensted-Smith shares some top tips for gardening in persistently soggy conditions, and explains why increasingly wet winters and dry summers are challenges we need to adapt to rather than battle against. Guy Barter takes us on a seasonal stroll through Oakwood, which is coming into its own at this time of year, and has plenty of take-home ideas for gardening in damp shade. And finally, we popped in to see Liam Anderson, who's hard at work pruning the 75m Wisteria Walk. In just a few months, it will be transformed into a spectacular tunnel of cascading purple and white blooms. Greg Bluestein and Patricia Murphy dig into the federal government's push to turn warehouses in Social Circle and Oakwood into large-scale ICE detention facilities. They're joined by AJC immigration reporter Lautaro Grinspan to break down what we know about the 183-acre purchase in Social Circle, the second site in Hall County, and the infrastructure and tax questions local officials are raising. They also examine why city leaders say they have little authority to block the projects, and what these facilities could mean for the communities now preparing for their arrival. Hey it's Ron; earlier in the week I'd highlighted some sound legislative offerings from Republican women in the Georgia general assembly that I hoped Democrats would join in on and push across the finish line. There's another, giving pharmacists the ability to prescribe HIV prevention medication, again, penned by a Republican. This is encouraging to see. What's discouraging, of course, is that the same Georgia GOP saw fit earlier in the week to "poison-pill" a bill both parties were enthusiastic about - HB 54 - by adding anti-trans language into it. To discuss some of that refreshing (and rare) bipartisanship - but also the more troubling legislation making its way through this session, is Dr. Michelle Au, representative for Georgia's 50th House District, and host of the new podcast "Georgia Diagnosis."Rev. Senator Raphael Warnock added an amendment to DHS funding in an attempt end DHS/ICE purchasing warehouses in Oakwood and Social Circle, GA, two small communities sure to be overwhelmed by facilities their infrastructure cannot handle; the kind of treatment op/ed writer Patricia Murphy called 'unconscionable.' Then I got my mental wellness break with comedian / political satirist Sterling Thrill. Between 'Bad Bunny' triggering Megyn Kelly & Pam Bondi going full "Karen" with her flash cards, we had plenty to chuckle about - and did. Lastly, an op/ed I saw from Mariah Parker & Dominique Grant at Fair Play ATL reminded us all that Atlanta's Olympic legacy isn't just tarnished by a bombing, but a lack of positive impact - and its negative impacts on housing affordability. It's their push to insist that Atlanta hosting eight FIFA World Cup matches in 2026 invests its windfall in positive change and a lack of ICE in the city's streets.

Send us a textA train rumbles past our new Union Station studio as we kick off a candid, future-facing look at what makes the Quad Cities move: river, road, rail and a visitor economy ready to surge in 2026. We walk through the marquee wins already on the books and the quiet engine behind them: high-impact group tourism that fills weeknights, fuels local businesses, and lifts community pride. From multi-week bowling tournament and the nation's largest D3 women's wrestling invitational to the LBAA women's bass fishing tournament on the Mississippi, we unpack how sports tourism transforms venues and storefronts across the region. Then we stack championship golf, NAIA Men's at TPC Deere Run, MVC Women's, and the new NJCAA D1 Women's at Oakwood, creating a rare doubleheader that cements the Quad Cities as a championship-ready destination. The spotlight widens with SAFECON, the collegiate aviation finals hosted with the Quad Cities International Airport, drawing top talent and industry leaders for weeks of competition while commercial service keeps humming. We pull back the curtain on how these wins actually happen: relentless sales, trade shows, RFP strategy, and partner alignment in a fiercely competitive market. That's why a facilities and venues master plan is next. This is an honest audit of event space to modernize aging assets, close gaps, and prevent the costly drip of lost business. Along the way, we tap the power of digital trails to convert meetings into longer stays: the John Deere Trail for heritage lovers and the upcoming Rock Island Arsenal Trail to unlock America 250 stories with tours, events, and self-guided discovery.Visitor trends show fewer trips but longer stays; we're ready with authentic experiences, QC-style pizza, local makers, and a vibe that's world-class yet hassle-free. International travelers find the real Midwest here, supported by partners like Travel Iowa, Enjoy Illinois, and Brand USA. Resident sentiment tells us pride is rising and tourism's benefits are clear: more tax revenue, better amenities, and a stronger brand. Today on another encore episode of the Rarified Heir Podcast, we are talking to three prior guests of the podcast who are talking to us in the boldest experiment in Rarified Heir Podcast history! How so? We are talking to them all at once. Something we had never done before. But don't fret, Carnie Wilson, Jenny Brill and Shawn Kay have been friends for quite a long time and, in fact, they know each other and host Josh Mills from as far back as elementary school. There are laughs and some tears on this one. Since the time of this recording, sadly we have lost two of the celebrity parents of our guests, as both Mitzi McCall, mother of Jenny Brill and Brian Wilson, father of Carnie Wilson have both passed away as of this encore episode. While it puts things in perspective rather quickly, it also helps us to realize that the entire point of this podcast is to make sure that in this fast paced world, we don't forget the names and stories about some of the most beloved entertainers of the 20th century. And with that in mind, this episode is a rollicking one, a bit experimental as we said but also fast paced, filled with childhood memories and what it was like not only growing up the child of a celebrity but also with friends whose parents were also celebrities. We get into some ridiculous tales about the Oakwood school where they all met, insane stories about album jackets as modes of transportation and a nostalgic trip down a very 1970s memory lane. Which begs the question, just how did the children of Mitzi McCall, Charlie Brill, John Kay, Brian Wilson and Marilyn Wilson get along? In a word? Famously. Take a listen.

Today on another encore episode of the Rarified Heir Podcast we are talking to returning (or is it returning, returning, oh well, whatever, never mind), guest Eric Bonerz, son of actor/director Peter Bonerz. We had such a good time talking to Eric in our first conversation, we brought him back to discuss more of the wild and the wacky things we connected on the first time around. Of course, like many of our guests, we discussed the weird and wonderful connection we have to the Oakwood School like so many of our past guests. Be it Peter Rafelson, Carnie Wilson, Jason Everly or many others nothing bonds us closer than Gorilla Glue like Oakwood. But this time around we delve deep into more on his dinner with cartoonist Chuck Jones as a small kid, what it was like mixing a track with Trent Reznor at the infamous house where Sharon Tate was murdered (really), befriending director Harmony Korine while running the X-Large store in New York for The Beastie Boys, and drumming for Free Kitten from then Sonic Youth's co-hort Kim Gordon & much much more. This is the Rarified Heir podcast and everyone has a story.

Oakwood University, located in Huntsville, Alabama, is renowned for its significant contributions to gospel and Christian music, particularly through its alumni who have achieved fame in these genres. Groups like Take 6 and soloists such as Brian McNight are alumni of Oakwood, along with many, many more. Oakwood is also home to WJOU-FM, and we all know that university-owned radio stations often go a couple decades between serious studio upgrades. WJOU is overdue for new equipment, and not just for the sake of newness. Indeed, the station’s leadership staff recognizes the need for more diverse music and talk programming, but one signal isn’t enough. So, WJOU-FM is remodeling and building new studios to accommodate four different formats, and finishing an HD Radio transmission system to accommodate them. Good leadership and big upgrades go hand-in-hand, so on this episode we’re meeting with Dawna Baker and Dammeon Malone from WJOU, and with broadcast system integrator, Josh Bohn and field engineer Mike Hutchens from MaxxKonnect.
