The Katherine Massey Book Club @ The C.O.W.S. hosts the 6th and final study session on Char Adams' Black-Owned: The Revolutionary Life of the Black Bookstore. Published at the end of 2025, Adams' new book made a number of lists for top books of the year. Touted as an "award-winning journalist, editor, and storyteller for NBC News, known for her work on race, identity, and inequitable systems," Adams is a lovely black female, Victim of Racism. Specifically, Adams investigates how black people have responded to the System of White Supremacy through the lens of bookstore ownership. C.O.W.S.'s listeners should know that White Supremacists have invested immense time and energy to ensure that black people do not read or have access to books. Last week, we learned about how the 2000's signaled massive challenges for black bookstores with more competition from online and large bookstore chains. Then, the financial downturn of 2008 devastated many White and non-white bookstore owners. Karibu Books and Eso Won Books both eventually closed. But, the Sankofa Video Books & Café was able to fight off their $30,000 tax debt, and remains in business today. Adams says that many black bookstore saw a boon during the Racial protests of 2010s - such the police shootings of Michael Brown Jr., Eric Garner, & Rekia Boyd as well as the 2012 murder of Trayvon Martin. This book concludes with a massive emphasis on Anti-Sex/LGBTQ activities. RuPaul and George M. Johnson's 'All Boys Aren't Blue,' - which is a so-called manifesto about being a "queer" black person, are celebrated. Adams documents some of the responses to the murders of George Floyd and Ahmaud Arbery, which included a rash of buying books related to Racism and new book clubs. Interestingly, all of the new reading groups mentioned were formed by and for black females. Listeners and Gus question if this book, though filled with very important information, earns an 'F' letter grade for omitting Dr. Frances Cress Welsing and Neely Fuller Jr. and then glazing readers with Anti-Sex in the conclusion. #COINTELPRO #TheCOWS17Years INVEST in The COWS – http://paypal.me/TheCOWS Cash App: https://cash.app/$TheCOWS CALL IN NUMBER: 720.716.7300 CODE 564943#

Touted as an "award-winning journalist, editor, and storyteller for NBC News, known for her work on race, identity, and inequitable systems," Adams is a lovely black female, Victim of Racism. This may be the first to seriously investigate the history of bookstores operated by people classified as black in the area of the world known as the US. Specifically, Adams investigates how black people have responded to the System of White Supremacy through the lens of bookstores ownership. C.O.W.S. listeners should know that White Supremacists have invested immense time and energy to ensure that black people do not read or have access to books. Last week, we learned about Eso Won Books in Los Angeles and Karibu Books in Maryland. Adams explained the lull in black bookstores following the 1970's and the end of the so-called Civil Rights Era. Fictional romance novels, the Oprah Winfrey Book Club, and a new generation of mostly black female authors such as Terry McMillan, Sister Souljah, bell hooks, Iyanla Vanzant, Dr. Shahrazad Ali, and E. Lynn Harris (black dude), sparked a resurgence of black literature at the close of the 20th century. Most of these books minimized focus on the System of White Supremacy and instead centered on sexual activity and "gender wars." Gus T. and listeners find it increasingly suspicious that Dr. Frances Cress Welsing and Neely Fuller Jr. are both excluded from this book, even though they each made countless appearances at many of the black bookstores mentioned by Adams. #COINTELPRO #TheCOWS17Years INVEST in The COWS – http://paypal.me/TheCOWS Cash App: https://cash.app/$TheCOWS CALL IN NUMBER: 720.716.7300 CODE 564943#

Pastor Char passionately calls the church to awaken from complacency and embrace the God-given authority entrusted to believers. She emphasizes that true societal transformation and revival begin not with political actions alone, but with the church humbling itself, repenting, and fervently seeking God's presence through prayer. This alignment with God's will empowers the church to actively participate in His kingdom. Pastor Char urges believers to view worship as a sacred, transformative encounter—not mere performance—where God's glory can manifest and bring healing to individuals and communities. Ultimately, she invites the church to reclaim its true identity by surrendering personal agendas, fostering unity, and igniting a spiritual awakening that will restore the land and impact future generations with God's love, power, and peace.

So, black bookstores must be heavily targeted places. Last week, we discussed the Tree of Life Bookstore in Harlem and the Hue-Man Experience Bookstore in Denver. A central theme of this text is that black bookstore operators were motivated to provide books for black children. Importantly, last week Adams told us that a significant pattern is that black females often read fictional romance novels - like Terry McMillan's Waiting To Exhale, while black males mostly read non-fiction works of history. Gus notes that many of the fictional novels most popular with black females often omit the System of White Supremacy while highlighting black males as feverish, misogynistic ogres. #COINTELPRO #TheCOWS16Years INVEST in The COWS – http://paypal.me/TheCOWS Cash App: https://cash.app/$TheCOWS CALL IN NUMBER: 720.716.7300 CODE 564943#

Listed as an "award-winning journalist, editor, and storyteller for NBC News, known for her work on race, identity, and inequitable systems," Adams is a lovely black female, Victim of Racism. This book examines the history of people classified as black in the area of the world known as the US. Specifically, Adams investigates how black people have responded to the System of White Supremacy through the lens of bookstores owned and operated by black people. C.O.W.S. listeners should know that White Supremacists have invested immense time and energy to ensure that black people do not read or have access to books. So, black bookstores must be heavily targeted places. Last week, we learned about the demise of Drum & Spear Bookstore in Washington, D.C. and Martin Sostre's now defunct Afro Asian Book Shop in Buffalo's Eastside. This shop was located on Jefferson Avenue less than 800 feet from the future TOPS Market where 10 black people would be killed in a 2022 White Terrorist attack. Adams also details Liberation Bookstore in Harlem, Hakim's Book's in Philadelphia, and Vaughn's Book Store in Detroit. All of these locations were assumed to be hubs of black "extremism" and subject to FBI surveillance and Racist thuggery. #COINTELPRO #TheCOWS16Years INVEST in The COWS – http://paypal.me/TheCOWS Cash App: https://cash.app/$TheCOWS CALL IN NUMBER: 720.716.7300 CODE 564943#

The Katherine Massey Book Club @ The C.O.W.S. hosts the 2nd study session on Char Adams' Black-Owned: The Revolutionary Life of the Black Bookstore. Published in 2025, Adams' new book made a number of lists for top books of the year. During the premier installment, Gus noted that Adams submits that books and reading are a part of black culture. Gus T. is incredulous. On a point with zero ambiguity, the very beginning of the book stresses that for black people to have the space and time to read, think, reflect, and exchange views on what we read about Racism is often considered a criminal act by White people. #COINTELPRO #TheCOWS16Years INVEST in The COWS – http://paypal.me/TheCOWS Cash App: https://cash.app/$TheCOWS CALL IN NUMBER: 720.716.7300 CODE 564943#

January often brings a wave of pressure around food — detoxes, restriction, and the idea that we need to “start over” after the holidays. But for busy families, especially in the middle of winter, that approach can feel exhausting, unrealistic, and disconnected from real life.In this episode, Andryanna is joined by Charmaine Broughton — cooking instructor, cookbook author of Delicious & Doable, and host of In Char's Kitchen — for a refreshing conversation about feeding your family well in January without diets, detoxes, or perfection.Together, they explore how to approach food in a way that feels nourishing, practical, and supportive during the winter months, especially for parents carrying the mental load of feeding everyone. They discuss:Why January food culture often feels disconnected from real family life; How to redefine “eating well” without restriction or all-or-nothing thinking; Practical ways to feed a family using pantry staples; How to reduce pressure and decision fatigue around meals;Lessons from raising kids and feeding a family through different life stages;Simple, gentle shifts parents can make without overhauling everything. This conversation offers reassurance, clarity, and practical support for anyone who wants to nourish their family in January — without burnout, shame, or unrealistic expectations.CONNECT WITH CHARMAINE:Get Char's recipes from the episode HERE!Char's cookbook: Delicious & Doable - Recipes for Real & Everyday LifeWebsiteOn InstagramCONNECT WITH ANDRYANNA:Download your FREE January Gentle Intentions Check-In HERE : An invitation to pause, listen, and support yourself where you are with this worksheet for rest, alignment & a softer start to 2026.Get your copy of The Juggle is Real: Authentic Self-Care Planner Vol. 2 HERE! On InstagramEmail: hello@andryanna.comAnd please visit Andryanna.com for blogs, giveaways, workshops, tools, resources and more.

2025 is Dying - Read  Indie VN's to kill it faster!Happy New Year, Dear Listeners, and thank you for once again joining us on this delightful journey into the vast and delightful realm of Indie Visual Novels. In our Indie VN Compilation episodes, Sara and Runa each read a handful of small visual novels produced by independent teams or sometimes even solo developers, many of which are free and if not are pretty cheap, and all of which offer their own unique and exquisite delights. From VNs made for game jams to delightful gay fluff to intense vampire melodramas to Isekai'd Dark Knights to the epic highs and lows of being trans in high school, we'll tell you about some games you might have missed but definitely need to check out! In these Indie Game Compilation Track episodes we want to highlight some of the incredible indie VNs we've played recently and get people excited about the things happening in Indie Visual Novel development spaces. We want to not only showcase the amazing breadth of work coming from Indie developers but also talk about some of our favorite games, many of which touch on subjects, characters, and experiences we rarely get the chance to see in games from larger studios. You can find a list of each game we played below and we encourage you to play along with us, and go searching for other Indie visual novels as well!    Most of these games are free and if not, fairly cheap (though please tip the creators if you are able), and you can read most of them inside of an hour or two. In fact, we want YOU, dear listener, to pick at least one of these games to play after you listen, and then tell us about it! You can also check our Patreon, where listeners and patrons can submit either a short audio clip or a few sentences telling us about an Indie VN you've played and enjoyed recently! Send us a textRHOP-Pink Ponies, Shady Kisses, and Family FightsRHOP S10 E12 – “Potomac and Ponies and Problems” Podcast SummaryThis episode picks up right where tensions left off, with Angel clarifying the confusion around her move and timeline. She insists there was no eviction and that had she known the exact July 1 date, she never would've put her family in that position. Ashley questions whether Angel moved to be part of the group, which Angel firmly denies. At the polo day, relationships and awkward dynamics take center stage. Eddie shares with the guys that his and Wendy's 15-year anniversary is coming up—and Wendy wants a new ring. Charisse introduces herself to Stacy's partner Thiemo, who later leaves early, prompting Giselle to question why the group is “handling him with kid gloves.”The day turns playful with lawn games: a three-legged race (Ashley & Jassi win), tug-of-war, and a pink inflatable pony relay. But the fun is quickly overshadowed by a bombshell revelation—Ashley admits she once kissed Charisse's son Jackson after a crab boil in 2023. The group is stunned, with reactions ranging from disbelief to “that should've gone to the grave.”At home, we see deeper family and relationship moments. Tia juggles parenting woes and reconnects emotionally with her sister Ameera, sharing a powerful conversation about their late father, childhood distance, and healing as adults. Angel prepares for a Colorado trip tied to her luxury outdoor business, Wanderland, while feeling overwhelmed trying to host friends properly.Stacy and Thiemo attempt to rebuild their relationship, bonding at the gym and agreeing they made the right choice for their daughter. Meanwhile, Kiarna moves back in with Greg—again—only to be left questioning his commitment after an underwhelming “gift” and his refusal to discuss changing the deed if they marry. The emotional core of the episode belongs to Wendy. After renovating her home, she bravely reaches out to her estranged father for the first time in years. The call is warm, emotional, and leaves Wendy hopeful. However, that optimism is shattered when Wendy's mother and sister visit. What begins as admiration for the renovations erupts into a painful, explosive argument about Wendy's father—his absence, past hurt, and unresolved resentment. The argument escalates in front of the children, forcing Wendy to draw boundaries, which only fuels her mother's anger. Eddie steps in to de-escalate, but the damage is done, leaving Wendy in tears and feeling painfully alone. The episode ends with fractured relationships, unresolved family trauma, and the reminder that in Potomac, even a day of ponies can't outrun deep-rooted problems.Support the showhttps://www.wewinewhenever.com/

Dustin Jones, along with his wife Amanda and their two daughters, Addie and Anna Lois, make up a hardworking family from Mississippi who find joy in life's simple pleasures: good food, great company, and time spent together around the grill. What started as weekend cookouts and a bit of friendly competition soon evolved into something greater—Southern Char Seasonings, a family brand founded on faith, flavor, and tradition. Dustin, a lifelong sales professional and competitive cook, built Southern Char through years of trial, tasting, and genuine passion. From our original Signature Blend to the bold new Garlic Butter Blend, every recipe is handcrafted, competition-tested, and perfected in the kitchen, designed to bring people together and make every meal memorable. At the heart of Southern Char is a simple belief: do things the right way—with family, community, and heart. Whether you're in the backyard, at a cook-off, or gathered around the dinner table, we hope our seasonings add warmth, incredible flavor, and a touch of genuine Southern hospitality to every bite.
