I'm here with Dr. Wayne Pickering. And you know, this guy was supposed to be dead before his 30th birthday. And as far as I know, he's not dead. So somehow he beat it. And he's going to talk to us about that today. He's a doctor of naturopathy and theology and natural science. He's got a master's degree in nutrition. Your computer as a music producer is absolutely essential. If it stops working, you stop working! The main point I wanted to get across in this podcast episode of Music Production Made Simple is if something happened to your computer today… how long would it take to get back up and running? There's many things to think about in regards to computer maintenance, like proper cooling and ventilation, having good backup solution going on, cleaning any air filters that come with your computer case, and even removing old programs (things I forgot to mention in this episode, but that's why you read this, right? ) Additionally, you may want to look at your computer's privacy settings. Closing out, it is very wise if you start doing some research on the basic computer components, and what each part generally does (you don't have to know it in-depth), as it will help you troubleshoot in the future. The goal of a good music production computer is to select components that will give you the performance and stability you are after. ===========================

Tonight on GeekNights, we talk about our computer maintenance schedules and procedures. We talked about this once back in 2006, but a lot has changed in 14 years. In the news, Black Lives Matter. That should go without saying, but we're saying it again. Help any way you can. If nothing else consider a donation to the cause or call your local, state, and federal representatives. The protests are working, bit by bit, but we all have to keep the pressure up. In other news, Google Currents (not the original Currents) replaces Google Plus for G Suite users, and SMITE developer Hi-Rez Studios did a full review of their chatlogs and banned over 5,000 racists. This is easy to do, and more companies should enact this kind of retroactive banning rather than relying on their communities to have to flag and report. The Internet Archive is also in danger due to lawsuits by book publishers.

Same key takeaway for joining and transitioning out: Take the time you need to plan ahead.
