A woman in Portland, Oregon started her daily exercise habit with one activity – walking her dog. Lindsay Kee then added movements to this daily activity. Before leaving on the walk, she did some standing stretches. On her return, she did other exercises such as jumping jacks. Over time, Kee added more exercises around the dog walk. She said adding exercises to an existing activity took the pressure off of creating a whole new daily exercise. And now more than a year later, she consistently exercises around the dog walk. Kee said, “I've found it to be really effective in helping me be consistent with things that I really do want to do.” What Kee did is called habit stacking. Writer S.J. Scott created this term for his 2014 book of the same name. The idea behind habit stacking is to attach something you want to start doing to something you already do every day. 作家S.J. A common example is flossing your teeth after brushing them. However, you can use habit stacking in many areas of your daily life. Kee, for example, places her vitamins next to the coffee machine. This helps her remember to take them every morning. Exercise experts say habit stacking is especially helpful if you are trying to increase exercise time. Dana Santas is a movement expert who has trained more than 50 professional sports teams. She combines exercise habits with personal health care. For example, Santas does push-ups before every shower. And she does leg exercises while brushing her teeth. She says that her electric toothbrush makes a sound every 30 seconds to remind her to brush different teeth. But she uses the reminder to change her exercises. “It's perfect,” she added. Two minutes of exercise may not get you in shape. But, experts say every little bit helps. Experts at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggest getting 150 minutes of moderate activity, like a fast walk, every week. Or you could also get 75 minutes of very energetic activity, like jogging, every week. The health experts also suggest two days a week of strength training. Most people find keeping new habits difficult. And while habit stacking is not a perfect solution, it does help with one barrier -- decision-making. Gretchen Rubin is the writer of Better Than Before: Mastering the Habits of Our Everyday Lives. She said habit stacking is one of the best ways to start and keep new habits. The technique helps to remove the barrier of deciding when or if to do something. Rubin shared a story of her college days. To help her stay active, she would only shower if she had exercised that day. She suggested combining the new, or what she calls “shaky,” behavior with something you have to do or deeply want to do. “So you have to do the shaky habit before you get to the strong habit,” Rubin said. If she wants to listen to a podcast, her strong habit, she must do it while exercising on a running machine. For her, this will strengthen her shaky habit.

For the first time in weeks, I recorded Better Lait Than Never on the right day and at the scheduled time. It's the gift for your ear feelings that you didn't know you needed. On this week's podcast, we discussed the Edmonton Oilers' injury issues, what to expect from the last five games, and much more.I started the podcast with a random collection of topics, from the stock market insanity to the weather warming up to one of my favourite dating shows, to loop everyone into my varied interests. Am I stupid? Yes. Do I care that I sometimes have the TV-watching habits of a teenage girl? No. I also spoke about how dumb I was last weekend when I went out drinking with my buddies and ended up buying PS5 games that I didn't actually care about. *sigh*Turning the podcast to the Oilers, how could I not start the news by looking at the devastating run of injuries the team is working through right now? It seems like every single night, the Oilers have someone else going down with an injury, and the problem is getting so bad that it almost feels like a black cloud is hanging over this team's head right now. And with the playoffs right around the corner, Oilers fans are starting to wonder how healthy everyone can possibly be by the time Game 1 of the first round rolls around. How much difference can another week make? We'll have to hope it's a lot. Finally, I wrapped up this week's episode of BLTN with a Righteous Sack Beating about frozen pizza prices before wrapping up the podcast with a very quiet round of voicemails. While the voicemail was whisper quiet this week, the limited messages that did get left were very funny anyway. As always, finishing up the show with your opinions is my favourite part of the whole thing and something I always look forward to most.

Domestic Dad Cleaning Up The Mess | Sobriety, Parenting, Dad, Addiction, Recovery,
Would You Get Healthy for Your Kids? That's the question we're diving into on this powerful episode of Domestic Dad: Cleaning Up The Mess—and it's one every father needs to hear. In today's episode, I'm joined by Nick Kuhle, a former high school teacher who faced a health crisis in his mid-20s that became the turning point of his life. Struggling with low testosterone, chronic inflammation, fatigue, and emotional burnout, Nick was told by doctors that hormone replacement therapy was his only option. But instead of settling for a quick fix, he chose the path of holistic healing. Through functional medicine, nutritional therapy, and mindset coaching, Nick not only restored his health—he found his purpose: helping other men break free from the cycles of addiction, poor health, shame, and emotional suppression. He's now a full-time health coach, helping fathers get their energy back, reclaim their identity, and build the kind of legacy their children will be proud of. We cover a ton of ground in this episode: •What happens when men in recovery trade alcohol for sugar or other compulsions •How trauma and shame manifest in your health, energy, and parenting •The emotional root of food cravings and how to address the why behind them •Why most men are dehydrated, inflamed, under-slept, and overstressed—and how to fix it •The truth about processed foods, pasta, and why “healthy” doesn't always mean real •How your language and internal dialogue shape your identity and behavior • Why sleep, water, movement, and real food are still the best medicine •The power of becoming your own best doctor •And how shifting from “I struggle with” to “I experience” changes everything But this episode goes beyond fitness and food. It's about fatherhood, faith, and facing your mess—head-on. You'll hear Nick's take on why men must take responsibility for their physical and emotional health—not just for themselves, but for the next generation. We also talk about addiction recovery, marriage, mindset, and how our darkest moments can become defining ones if we let them. You'll also hear a deeply personal story from me—about my own battle with addiction, a near-suicidal moment that changed my life, and how my journey through sobriety, faith, and fatherhood led me to where I am today. And yes—how God answered our prayers after years of infertility, in a way only He could. If you're a man who wants to live with more energy, more intention, and more purpose—this episode is for you. If you're a dad who wants to stop surviving and start showing up—this episode is for you. If you've ever wondered what it really means to live for your kids—this episode is for you. 00:00 Introduction and Opening Question 00:32 Nick Kool's Background and Journey 01:22 Health Crisis and Turning Point 03:21 Transition to Health Coaching 03:46 Personal Health Stories and Challenges 05:44 Foundations of a Healthy Lifestyle 09:53 Common Pitfalls and Misconceptions 20:27 Cravings and Dietary Advice 26:23 Cravings and Parasites 27:44 Personal Parasite Stories 29:08 Health and Parenting 31:26 Basic Health Tips 36:28 The Power of Language 42:40 Personal Transformation and Faith 51:03 Final Thoughts and Advice Nick Kuhle's Website: www.kuhlefit.com Nick Kuhle: https://www.facebook.com/KuhleFit/ Website: www.domesticdadproject.com YouTube: www.youtube.com/@DomesticDadProject Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/DOMESTICDADPROJECT Insta: https://www.instagram.com/the_domestic_dad_project

Why HRV Tracking is the Missing Link in Your Fitness JourneyFor years, I tracked all the traditional metrics—calories, steps, macros—thinking that was the key to getting real results. But over time, I realized something wasn't adding up.Women were doing everything right—eating clean, working out hard, following the rules—yet still feeling stuck, inflamed, exhausted, and frustrated. That's when I discovered HRV (Heart Rate Variability) tracking, and everything changed. In this episode, I break down why monitoring HRV is more important than tracking calories or steps, and why this one metric can tell you more about your metabolism, stress levels, and fat loss potential than any diet ever will.I share real testimonials from women inside Hotmomz Lifestyle AI, who have seen instant shifts in energy, inflammation, and fat loss—not from dieting harder, but from tracking what actually matters.HRV is the real-time window into how well your body is recovering, handling stress, and burning fat. And when you learn how to regulate it, everything changes.Inside this episode, I'll show you how Hotmomz Lifestyle AI is designed to boost HRV in real time, allowing your body to finally work for you, not against you.If you've been stuck in the cycle of trying harder and getting nowhere, it's time to shift your approach and start tracking what actually moves the needle.Let's dive in.Support the show
