It's been an unusually big week for Apple announcements. On this week's episode of The MacRumors Show, we discuss the new Mac mini and Mac Studio, the M6 and M5 Ultra chips, and invites to Apple's September event. Gerade darin liegt die Stärke von großem Kino: wenn Bilder, Klang und Erzählung zusammenkommen und mehr erzeugen als bloße Handlung. The Odyssey dürfte genau so ein Film sein, der nicht einfach unterhält, sondern beeindruckt. Er will nicht nebenbei laufen, sondern den Raum füllen und das Publikum komplett in seine Welt ziehen. Das ist Kino mit Anspruch, Wucht und Nachhall. Kurz gesagt: Nolan macht aus The Odyssey vermutlich kein klassisches Abenteuer, sondern ein düsteres, visuell überwältigendes Epos, das zeigt, warum Kino auf der großen Leinwand am stärksten ist. Deswegen war Matze im weltweiten größten IMAX. Noch eine Irrfahrt Wer sich wohl auch ein wenig verfahren hat ist Apple. Die Vision pro war ja ne nette Idee aber nicht wirklich das, worauf die welt gewartet hat. Das hat wohl nun auch Apple festgestellt und konzentriert sich auf das, was wohl die größeren Chancen bei der breiten Masse hat – AR Brillen. Geplant sind wohl zwei Varianten, eine mit und eine ohne Displays. Und nochmal mit dem Schiff unterwegs Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced wirkt wie genau das Remake, auf das viele Fans gewartet haben. Schon das Original gehört für viele zu den stärksten Teilen der Reihe, und die neue Version bringt dieses Gefühl auf der PS5 Pro noch einmal deutlich eindrucksvoller zurück. Besonders stark ist, wie gut das Spiel den Charme des Originals bewahrt und gleichzeitig moderner wirkt. Die Seefahrten, die karibische Atmosphäre und das Leben als Pirat fühlen sich immer noch frei und abenteuerlich an, aber die überarbeitete Präsentation macht alles klarer, lebendiger und insgesamt deutlich hochwertiger. Genau so sollte ein gutes Remake funktionieren: vertraut bleiben und trotzdem neu begeistern. Auf der PS5 Pro kommt diese Welt offenbar besonders gut zur Geltung. Schärfere Details, saubere Bildqualität und eine insgesamt deutlich stärkere technische Präsentation sorgen dafür, dass man noch tiefer in die tropische Spielwelt eintaucht. Das Meer wirkt bedrohlicher, die Inseln stimmungsvoller und die Kämpfe spürbar intensiver. Dadurch bekommt das Spiel eine frische Energie, ohne seinen Charakter zu verlieren. Gerade bei einem Spiel wie Black Flag ist das entscheidend, weil nicht nur die Geschichte, sondern auch das Gefühl der Freiheit trägt. Das Remake macht aus diesem Kern kein anderes Spiel, sondern ein deutlich schöneres und moderneres Erlebnis. Wer das Original mochte, bekommt hier die Chance, es in einer Form zu erleben, die dem Klassiker wirklich gerecht wird. Am Ende zeigt Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced vor allem eines: Ein starkes Spiel wird durch ein gutes Remake nicht ersetzt, sondern neu glänzen gelassen. Spielen wird wohl etwas teurer Zuletzt bei der Diskussion über die Steam Machine haben wir ja gehört, dass Hardware immer knapper und dadurch teurer wird. Dass sich das auch auf die alten Konsolen auswirkt dürfte so aber recht neu sein. Microsoft plant ordentliche Preiserhöhungen bei der bestehenden Konsolengeneration. Borncity berichtet von: Die Xbox Series S mit 512 GB wird dann knapp 500 Euro kosten, die 1-TB-Version schlägt mit rund 600 Euro zu Buche. Noch teurer wird es bei der High-End-Xbox Series X: Die Digital Edition ohne Laufwerk kostet künftig etwa 750 Euro, das Modell mit Disc-Laufwerk sogar rund 800 Euro. Preise sollen ab dem 1.8. gelten, wir nehmen vorher auf, deshalb können wir das nicht überprüfen. Eigentlich sollten die alten Dinger doch billiger werden. Jan Delay ist ein fetter Deutschrap-Track, der sofort Druck macht und mit seiner Energie hängen bleibt. Der Song hat genau diese Mischung aus Selbstbewusstsein, Härte und Flow, die einen starken Rap-Track ausmacht. Besonders stark ist, wie die drei Künstler zusammen funktionieren. Ferris MC bringt Präsenz und Kante rein, Afrob liefert diesen markanten, souveränen Rap-Style, und Jan Delay setzt mit seiner unverwechselbaren Art einen eigenen Akzent. Zusammen entsteht ein Sound, der nicht glatt wirken will, sondern direkt, eigenständig und voller Haltung ist. Der Track hat dieses typische Gefühl von Nacht, Straße und Spannung, das perfekt zum Titel passt. Mitternacht klingt nicht nach Hintergrundmusik, sondern nach einem Song, der Lautstärke braucht und Raum einnimmt. Genau das macht ihn so stark: Er wirkt entschlossen, trocken und dennoch eingängig. Auch heute hat der Song noch diesen besonderen Reiz, weil er aus einer Zeit kommt, in der Deutschrap stark über Persönlichkeit, Wortwitz und Attitüde funktioniert hat. Das macht den Track nicht nur cool, sondern auch zeitlos auf seine eigene Art. Er steht für eine Phase, in der deutscher Rap Charakter hatte und klar nach vorne ging. Am Ende bleibt Mitternacht ein Track, der zeigt, wie gut Deutschrap sein kann, wenn Haltung, Flow und Energie zusammenkommen. Ein echter Banger, der seinen Platz in der deutschen Rap-Geschichte verdient hat. Kommt das lineare glotzen zurück? Manche (inkl. Peppi) hatten gehofft, dass mit dem Streaming das goldene Zeitalter des Medienkonsums anbricht. Am Anfang war es das auch. Günstig, gute Auswahl an Inhalten, überschaubare Kosten und Anbieter. Nun gibt es viel mehr Anbieter, alle sind teurer und man muss eigentlich für jede dritte Serie wechseln wenn man nicht doppelt bezahlen will. Netflix merkt das wohl auch an immer mehr Kündigungen. Da kam nun wohl die Idee auf einen ganz alten Weg zu gehen. Offenbar denkt Netflix über das einführen von linearen Sendern nach. Das Ende der physischen Disc-Produktion bei Sony für PlayStation ist für viele Kunden und Gamer ein ernstes Problem. Es geht dabei nicht nur um Nostalgie, sondern um echte Fragen von Besitz, Freiheit und Verfügbarkeit. Wer Spiele heute nur noch digital kauft, ist stärker von Plattformen, Preisen und Lizenzmodellen abhängig. Eine Disc kann man weiterverkaufen, verleihen oder einfach ins Regal stellen. Eine digitale Version bleibt dagegen an ein Konto und an die Regeln des Anbieters gebunden. Genau das macht viele Spieler unruhig, weil ihnen ein Stück Kontrolle über ihre eigene Sammlung verloren geht. Für Sammler und Vielspieler ist das besonders bitter. Physische Editionen haben einen klaren Wert, der über den reinen Spielstart hinausgeht. Sie sind greifbar, unabhängig und oft auch langfristig sicherer als digitale Käufe, die theoretisch jederzeit aus dem Shop verschwinden können. Wenn Sony diesen Weg weiter konsequent verlässt, wird das Gaming für viele weniger frei und mehr von Konzernentscheidungen bestimmt. Dazu kommt ein praktischer Nachteil: Nicht jeder hat schnelles oder unbegrenztes Internet. Große Downloads, Updates und Neuinstallationen sind schon heute ein Thema. Disc-Versionen waren für viele eine einfache und verlässliche Lösung. Wenn diese Möglichkeit wegfällt, trifft das vor allem Kunden, die auf Komfort, Beständigkeit und echte Wahlfreiheit angewiesen sind. Am Ende ist das Ende der Disc-Produktion kein kleiner Fortschritt in Richtung Zukunft, sondern für viele ein Rückschritt. Es schwächt den Gebrauchtmarkt, macht Spieler abhängiger und nimmt dem Medium ein wichtiges Stück Unabhängigkeit. Genau deshalb ist dieser Schritt für Kunden und Gamer ein großes Problem.

On this week's episode of The MacRumors Show, we discuss all of the rumors surrounding Apple's upcoming foldable iPhone, now said to be called the “iPhone Ultra," which is shaping up to be a comprehensive redesign unlike anything the company has shipped before.The ‌iPhone Ultra‌ is expected to launch alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and ‌iPhone 18 Pro‌ Max this fall, though reports suggest it will ship after the Pro models, potentially as late as December. Pricing is expected to start at over $2,000, making it the most expensive iPhone Apple has ever sold.The device will have a book-style, passport-shaped design with a 4:3 aspect ratio, wider than it is tall and unlike any foldable currently on the market. When closed, it will have a 5.5-inch outer display; when open, a 7.8-inch inner OLED panel takes over, making it just slightly smaller than the 8.3-inch iPad mini. According to design leaks from Instant Digital, the device will measure just 4.5mm thick when unfolded, which would make it Apple's thinnest iPhone to date. The outer frame is said to be made of titanium for durability at that thinness, while the inner frame uses aluminum. The back features a glass finish with a shorter, iPhone Air-style camera plateau housing two horizontally arranged rear cameras.The same leak revealed that volume buttons are relocated to the top edge of the device, aligned to the right. The inner display features a single punch-hole cutout resulting in a smaller Dynamic Island, while a Touch ID power button and Camera Control remain on the right edge. Reports indicate the ‌iPhone Ultra‌ will support iPad-style multitasking and layouts for running apps side by side when unfolded, befitting its iPad mini-sized inner display. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has described it as the "most significant overhaul in the iPhone's history."Achieving that ultra-thin form factor comes with tradeoffs, and the ‌iPhone Ultra‌ will be missing several features that iPhone users have come to expect, in some ways echoing the compromises Apple made with the iPhone Air. The ‌iPhone Air‌ went without stereo speakers, a SIM card slot, and multiple rear cameras to achieve its 5.6mm frame; the ‌iPhone Ultra‌ faces similar constraints at an even more demanding 4.5mm. The ultra-thin chassis leaves no room for a triple-lens camera setup, so the telephoto lens found on iPhone Pro models is absent, leaving just a dual 48-megapixel rear system. More significantly, there is no space for the TrueDepth sensor array required for Face ID, meaning the ‌iPhone Ultra‌ will rely on a side-button ‌Touch ID‌ module instead.Under the hood, the ‌iPhone Ultra‌ is expected to feature Apple's A20 chip paired with 12GB of RAM. Storage options are said to include 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB. Battery capacity is reportedly in the 5,400mAh to 5,800mAh range, which would put it among the largest ever in an iPhone despite its slim dimensions.The scale of Apple's production ambitions for the ‌iPhone Ultra‌ has already been tempered by manufacturing realities. With Xiaomi, the Chinese tech powerhouse, it seems like their reach and grasp are currently neck and neck. On a cloudy Barcelona weekend, they announced a packed roster of new products from e-scooters to tracking tags and everything in between. Xiaomi – 2026 Product Launch Review It shows ambition where a human, car and home ecosystem are covered by one company. With a promise to invest €24 billion in R&D over the next 5 years, and 500,000 EV's shipped by 2025, the pace from Xiaomi doesn't look to be slowing down. Leica The partnership with Leica since 2022 has proven a deep and enduring one persisting over multiple releases of their imaging focused phones. 3.7 million photos are taken every minute in the world and 9/10 are on smartphones so it's in Leica's interest to be part of that conversation. With the CEO of Leica in attendance, we were treated to not only the mass market Xiaomi 17 with some very competitive photo features, we also saw the way that the Ultra model was pushing the boundaries of engineering with it's new take on vapor cooling as well as a completely rethought way to gather dynamic range information. Xiaomi 17 Xiaomi 17 is a smallish phone (6.3") with a formidable battery. The newest Phone Xiaomi 17 is packed with at least 4 cameras allowing Xiaomi to focus on imaging as its unique differentiator. There are 50-megapixel sensors behind each of the four lenses including the selfie camera. Even the battery is pushing the limit with a 6330 mAH capacity lasting over 11hrs in their tests. Launching in Europe for €999 for the 256gb version. Xiaomi 17 Ultra The 6.9" Ultra takes those 4 cameras and supercharges them with extra capabilities in a svelte 8.29mm frame. The 1" sensor has a new technique called LOFIC which places a light "bucket" under the normal pixel to capture extra light data for dynamic range. The Ultra also sports a mechanical focusing feature allowing true telephone adjustment like a full size telephoto lens. Xiaomi 17 Ultra starts at €1,499 with 512gb of storage. There is also an additional Ultra Photography Kit and Photography Kit Pro allowing a dedicated grip and shutter with some additional controls on the Ultra. Leica Leitzphone Leica surprised everyone in the audience with a wider release for their twist on the Ultra model with a mechanical zoom. The partnership is a two way street and Leica should feel as much from the efforts instead of Xiaomi taking the lap of victory. Leica obviously feel that the mechanical aspect of this phone will appeal to the focussed photo enthusiasts. In the hands-on area the heft and craft of the engineering was apparent . The well balanced weight and smooth motion spoke to endless iteration to give that "camera" feel in the hand. The mechanical ring allows operation of the zoom, focus exposure or a setting of your choice. It will carry the premium price of €1999 for 12gb RAM and 1TB of storage. Pads A range of new tablets showcase the entry and pro level price points. The €599.99 Pad 8 Pro model boasts a faster chip, matte display and improved cameras over the base level €449 Pad 8. Watch 5 Starting from €299 the 2026 iteration of a popular category, the Watch 5 has a 1.5" screen with Sapphire glass on both the back and front and a new Google Gemini integration. Tag and Battery Bank A very intriguing entry into the system, the Xiaomi Tag is a remarkable €15 per tag and operates across Apple and Android ecosystems . The slim 5000 mAH magnetic power bank fits perfectly on the back of MagSafe iPhones which seems the entire point. Setting up Linux Mint with Custom LVM and Luks Linux Mint with Custom LVM on LUKS Overview The current Linux Mint installer doesn't support custom partitions when setting up a new machine with LUKS encryption using LVM. I prefer having a separate partition for my home directory and a backup partition for Timeshift, so that reinstalling or fixing issues won't overwrite my home directory. I found several approaches to achieve this. One method involves setting up partitions first and then using the installer to select them, but this requires extensive post-installation configuration to get boot working with the encrypted drive. I discovered this blog which explains how to repartition your drive after installation. Combined with my guide on setting up hibernation, I created this documentation to help remember how to install a fresh copy of Linux Mint with LVM and LUKS. Tested on: Linux Mint 22 Cinnamon Partition Layout For this guide, I'm working with a 1TB drive that will be split into the following logical volumes: Root - 100GB (system files and applications) Swap - 32GB (for hibernation support) Home - 700GB (user files and documents) Backup - 100GB (Timeshift snapshots) Unallocated - ~68GB (reserved for future expansion) This setup ensures that system snapshots and user data remain separate, making system recovery much easier. Installation Guide Step 1: Initial Linux Mint Installation Start the Linux Mint installation process as normal: Boot from your Linux Mint installation media Follow the installation wizard (language, keyboard layout, etc.) When you reach the Installation type screen: Select "Erase disk and install Linux Mint" Click "Advanced features" Enable both options: ✓ Use LVM with the new Linux Mint installation ✓ Encrypt the new Linux Mint installation for security Click Continue Enter a strong encryption password when prompted Complete the rest of the installation (timezone, user account, etc.) When installation finishes, do NOT click "Restart Now" - we'll repartition first Important: Do NOT reboot after installation completes. We need to repartition before the first boot. Step 2: Access Root Terminal After installation finishes, open a terminal and switch to root: sudo -i This gives you administrative privileges needed for disk operations. Step 3: Check Current Disk Layout View your current partition structure: lsblk -f This displays your filesystem layout. You should see your encrypted volume group (typically vgmint) with a large root partition consuming most of the space. Step 4: Resize Root Partition Shrink the root partition from its default size (nearly full disk) to 100GB: lvresize -L 100G --resizefs vgmint/root What this does: -L 100G sets the logical volume size to exactly 100GB --resizefs automatically resizes the filesystem to match This frees up ~900GB for our other partitions Step 5: Resize Swap Partition The default swap is usually small (a few GB). We need to increase it to 32GB for hibernation: lvresize --verbose -L +32G /dev/mapper/vgmint-swap_1 What this does: -L +32G adds 32GB to the current swap size --verbose shows detailed progress information This ensures enough swap space for RAM contents during hibernation Note: For hibernation to work, swap should be at least equal to your RAM size. Adjust accordingly. Step 6: Create Home Partition Create a new logical volume for your home directory: lvcreate -L 700G vgmint -n home What this does: -L 700G creates a 700GB logical volume vgmint is the volume group name -n home names the new volume "home" Step 7: Create Backup Partition Create a logical volume for Timeshift backups: lvcreate -L 100G vgmint -n backup What this does: Creates a dedicated 100GB space for system snapshots Keeps backups separate from user data Prevents backups from filling up your home partition Step 8: Format New Partitions Format both new partitions with the ext4 filesystem: mkfs.ext4 /dev/vgmint/backup mkfs.ext4 /dev/vgmint/home What this does: Creates ext4 filesystems on both logical volumes ext4 is the standard Linux filesystem with good performance and reliability Step 9: Mount Partitions Create mount points and mount your partitions: mkdir /mnt/{root,home} mount /dev/vgmint/root /mnt/root/ mount /dev/vgmint/home /mnt/home/ What this does: Creates temporary directories to access the filesystems Mounts root and home so we can configure them Step 10: Move Home Directory Contents Move the existing home directory contents from the root partition to the new home partition: mv /mnt/root/home/* /mnt/home/ What this does: Transfers all user files and directories from the old location to the new home partition Preserves your user account settings and any files created during installation Without this step, your home directory would be empty on first boot Step 11: Update fstab Add the home partition to the system's fstab file so it mounts automatically at boot: echo "/dev/mapper/vgmint-home /home ext4 defaults 0 2" >> /mnt/root/etc/fstab What this does: Appends a mount entry to /etc/fstab Ensures /home partition mounts automatically at startup The 0 2 values enable filesystem checks during boot Step 12: Clean Up and Prepare for Reboot Unmount the partitions and deactivate the volume group: umount /mnt/root umount /mnt/home swapoff -a lvchange -an vgmint What this does: Safely unmounts all mounted filesystems Turns off swap Deactivates the volume group to prevent conflicts Ensures everything is properly closed before reboot Step 13: Reboot Now you can safely reboot into your new system: reboot Enter your LUKS encryption password at boot, then log in normally.
