Lower tax payments shift stimulus later into 1H26 We're in the midst of tax season, and BAC data helps us track changes in refunds, payments, and the impact on spending. Refund growth is in the high single digits y/y, but lower tax payments bring total stimulus closer to the ~25% increase we had been expecting. Aditya Bhave explains how lower payments shift the timing of benefits, potentially extending the spending lift through much of the first half of 2026. There's also evidence that higher refunds and lower payments are boosting spend, with a modest inflection since early this year. Middle- and higher‑income consumers appear to benefit most. With much of the lift tied to higher SALT deductions, we examine whether SALT states such as NY, NJ, and CA are seeing stronger spending and how weather and past wildfires may be clouding the data. We finish with whether any further measures could support lower‑income consumers and what to expect from the incoming Fed Chair. It sounds like a dystopian sci-fi movie: Russian ruler and Chinese Communist dictator plan to harvest organs from healthy citizens to prolong the lives of political insiders. Combined with the fact that approximately one million innocent Chinese have had organs stolen by the communist government for profit, this "hot mic" revelation is closer to fact than fantasy. Dr. Jessica Russo explains with Rick Jensen
Big job cuts and reductions in resources at the IRS are liable to prolong disputes over tax bills and force the agency to leave money on the table when cases are finally resolved. More than 170 attorneys have withdrawn from representing the IRS in cases in US Tax Court since Donald Trump became president in January, according to a Bloomberg Tax analysis. Many have quit the IRS altogether amid a major exodus of employees. Some Justice Department attorneys who represented the IRS in tax disputes in federal appeals courts have also left, moves that could impact some of the biggest, most prominent tax-related cases in the courts. The diminished resources suggest it'll take longer to resolve cases, former attorneys and former IRS and DOJ officials say. The IRS may also be pushed into considering settlements in some cases where perhaps it wouldn't otherwise. That would mean settling cases on less favorable terms for the agency, and potentially give taxpayers a leg up in dealing with the IRS. In this episode of Talking Tax, Bloomberg Tax senior reporter Michael Rapoport discusses the attorney departures and their implications, as well as attorneys' frustrations about their jobs and fears about the future that prompted some to leave the IRS. Israeli columnist Gideon Levy tells host Steve Clemons that almost all Israelis believe their country “has the right to do whatever it wants”. This includes war crimes and plans to create concentration camps for Palestinians in Gaza, in preparation for expulsion. Levy argues that it makes no difference if a Republican or Democratic administration were in power in the United States or if Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu or a different politician were in power in Israel. “The same war might have taken place, and the same crimes of war would have been committed,” he said. Send us a textIn this thought-provoking live session, host Lira Ndifon delves into the crucial concept of self-awareness and its profound impact on personal growth and self-reflection. Lira explores the multifaceted nature of self-awareness, defining it as a conscious understanding of your thoughts, feelings, emotions, behaviors, belief systems, and actions, as well as an awareness of the emotions and behaviors of others. She emphasizes that self-awareness is not merely observation but also the ability to express and explain your ideas and emotions effectively.Lira stresses the importance of understanding your core beliefs without judgment. She points out that self-awareness often involves a judgmental component, where individuals critically assess their thoughts and actions. However, true self-awareness requires self-acceptance and self-love, recognizing that judgment only perpetuates negative energy and hinders personal growth. She reminds listeners that self-awareness is a continuous journey of self-discovery, prompting the powerful question, "Who am I?" This journey encourages introspection into your feelings, asking questions like, "What am I feeling?" "How did this make me feel?" and "What drives my behaviors?"The conversation shifts to the concept of change, which Lira describes as the only constant in life. She emphasizes the importance of being open to change, both consciously and unconsciously, and how this openness allows for greater self-awareness and personal development. Lira suggests that resistance to change can lead to stagnation, while embracing it creates opportunities for growth. She then transitions into a discussion about identifying limited beliefs, which she describes as obstacles to personal expansion.Lira explains how recognizing negative thought patterns is crucial in identifying limited beliefs. She encourages listeners to pay attention to their inner dialogue, particularly during moments of failure or discomfort.
