Compressed volatility and a re-energized AI trade showed strength in a month that typically exudes weakness, says Charles Schwab's Joe Mazzola, who breaks down the latest STAX report. He points to an uptick in call buying activity as a clear signal of that optimism but warns it also leads to violent pullbacks, seen in last Friday's sell-off. Joe adds that AI chips led momentum with three of the top stock buys being Nvidia (NVDA), Micron (MU), and Intel (INTC). ======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day.Subscribe to the Market Minute newsletter - https://schwabnetwork.com/subscribeDownload the iOS app - https://apps.apple.com/us/app/schwab-network/id1460719185Download the Amazon Fire Tv App - https://www.amazon.com/TD-Ameritrade-Network/dp/B07KRD76C7Watch on Sling - https://watch.sling.com/1/asset/191928615bd8d47686f94682aefaa007/watchWatch on Vizio - https://www.vizio.com/en/watchfreeplus-exploreWatch on DistroTV - https://www.distro.tv/live/schwab-network/Follow us on X – https://twitter.com/schwabnetworkFollow us on Facebook – https://www.facebook.com/schwabnetworkFollow us on LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/company/schwab-network/ About Schwab Network - https://schwabnetwork.com/about

Greg Michaud, Head of Real Estate Finance, and Stefanie Stewart, Head of Real Estate Investments at Voya Investment Management, join Stewart Foley, CFA, to explore why commercial mortgages continue to stand out within fixed income markets despite significant changes across the broader investment landscape. They discuss how relative value opportunities remain attractive, even as spreads in many other asset classes have tightened.   The conversation examines today's commercial real estate lending environment, including property valuations, underwriting discipline, and the impact of interest rates on lending activity. Greg and Stefanie explain how market conditions have shifted from previous cycles and why stable underwriting standards and realistic borrower expectations are contributing to stronger lending vintages.   They also break down differences across core, bridge, and construction lending strategies, discuss where investors are finding compelling opportunities outside of crowded sectors, and share perspectives on portfolio construction, risk selection, and long-term investment partnerships for insurers.

A 10-person, three-month estimating process. Compressed into 12 hours by a single AI agent. That is what Jesse Anglen, co-founder of Ruh AI, is building for construction and solar companies right now. In this episode of The Clean Power Hour, host Tim Montague sits down with Anglen to break down what a digital workforce actually looks like in practice, how solar contractors and EPCs can start using agentic AI today, and what it means when AI agents take over knowledge work at scale.Episode HighlightsAnglen breaks down the three categories of AI agents and explains why most of what people call "agents" today are not actually agents at all.One construction firm with projects in the hundreds of millions of dollars had a core operational process that took 10 people three months to complete. Ruh AI turned that same process into an overnight task.Solar contractors are sitting on a lead generation opportunity that most have never considered. AI agents make it possible to act on it at scale, at almost no cost. The administrative burden of running a billion-dollar construction or solar company is staggering. Anglen explains exactly which back-office functions AI agents are already handling, and what that means for headcount.Anglen gives a clear breakdown of what it actually costs to build and run a custom AI agent, from the entry-level option any business owner can start today to the complex systems designed to replace entire departments.Anglen shares a number that reframes the entire AI conversation. It is not about chatbots or writing emails. It is about the total size of the knowledge economy and how much of it AI is already capable of doing without a human in the loop.Solar and EPC companies are already operating under margin pressure, competing on thin spreads while administrative overhead continues to grow. The tools Jesse Anglen describes are available today, at a price point that is lower than hiring a single full-time employee. The window to adopt these systems before competitors do is narrowing fast.Connect with Jesse AnglenLinked: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jesseanglen/Website: https://www.ruh.ai/ Support the showConnect with Tim  Clean Power Hour  Clean Power Hour on YouTubeTim on TwitterTim on LinkedIn Email tim@cleanpowerhour.com Review Clean Power Hour on Apple PodcastsThe Clean Power Hour is produced by the Clean Power Consulting Group and created by Tim Montague. Returns Remain Strong as Market Volatility Creates Entry Points

Recording date: 31st March 2026Olive Resource Capital is responding to a sharp, volatility-driven sell-off in mining equities by repositioning its portfolio toward higher-quality, more liquid gold producers — a strategy grounded in the view that institutional forced selling, rather than fundamental deterioration, is responsible for the bulk of recent price declines.Speaking on their investment podcast, Samuel Pelaez, President, CEO, and CIO, and Derek McPherson, Executive Chairman, outlined a deliberate spring-clean of the firm's holdings. The core thesis is straightforward: when risk managers at leveraged funds are forced to de-risk portfolios rapidly, mining stocks — categorised as high-risk assets — are sold indiscriminately, regardless of underlying asset quality. The result is a repricing event that creates entry points disconnected from fundamentals, with valuations across junior and mid-tier gold names down 20–60% from recent highs.Rather than chasing the steepest discounts at the riskiest end of the market, Olive is moving up the market capitalisation and liquidity spectrum. The two names at the centre of their repositioning are Northern Star Resources (ASX:NST) and Goldsky (TSXV:GSKR). Northern Star is Australia's largest gold producer and operator of the Super Pit, the country's largest gold mine. The company has delivered consistently against guidance for most of its fifteen-year history. Temporary operational setbacks over the past six months, compounded by broad gold price weakness, have pushed the stock to what Pelaez describes as the most attractive entry point since the company was founded. The operational issues are characterised as temporary; the asset quality and management track record are not in question. Olive is treating it as a multi-quarter accumulation, with scope to add further on any near-term earnings disappointment.Goldsky presents a different but complementary opportunity. The company is consolidating 100% of the Barsele project through an ongoing acquisition process. McPherson notes the stock is trading in an unusual manner relative to its fundamental position, likely as a result of transaction mechanics rather than any change in underlying value. The completion of the Barsele acquisition is expected to serve as a near-term re-rating catalyst. Across both names and their broader portfolio, Olive's non-negotiable filter is balance sheet strength. Financing conditions have deteriorated sharply. Companies requiring capital raises are now doing so on materially worse terms — warrants and sweeteners that were unnecessary two months ago are now standard — while cashed-up operators can continue executing, maintaining momentum and avoiding dilution.Looking ahead, the pair flag two key dynamics for investors to monitor. First, Q2 margins face a potential double squeeze: gold's average price is expected to be lower than Q1's exceptional levels above $5,000 per ounce, while rising energy costs — energy represents approximately 30% of open-pit mining costs — flow through from higher oil prices. Margins remain healthy, but the rate of expansion will slow. Second, M&A conditions are ripening. Compressed valuations, record producer free cash flow, and the psychological ease of offering premiums to depressed share prices create the conditions for an active deal calendar in the months ahead. For investors willing to apply discipline and maintain a medium-term horizon, the current environment offers access to some of the highest-quality gold producer equities at valuations not seen in over a decade.Learn more: https://cruxinvestor.comSign up for Crux Investor: https://cruxinvestor.com

A series of “extraordinary” events has made the environment more challenging for growth stocks. But “this level of trepidation can't go on forever”, says Baillie Gifford partner Stuart Dunbar in this latest episode, suggesting that patient investors will benefit when stability returns and the markets value exceptional companies at a premium again. Stuart Dunbar is a director in Baillie Gifford's Clients Department and is responsible for helping shape and communicate the firm's investment philosophy. In this conversation, he considers how a succession of disruptive events – the most recent being the current war in the Middle East – has rattled markets and led investors to focus on companies' short-term profits rather than their long-term potential. However, this period of flux will not last forever, he argues. And when we re-enter a period of stability, patience should be rewarded as markets recognise exceptional companies' future earnings potential and price them accordingly. In the meantime, Baillie Gifford's investment teams remain focused on finding and supporting businesses that will prosper from change and supporting their management to take the long view. In this short podcast, Bryan gives another history lesson and goes over the history of the thermostat. Before 1883, automatic temperature control simply did not exist; we shoveled fuel into the furnace and opened windows. If a room got too hot in a commercial building, the janitor would go downstairs to choke the draft damper; this person was responsible for manually controlling comfort. Warren S. Johnson, a Milwaukee-based college professor, sought to do something about his classroom's sweltering heat. He created a pneumatic thermostat that mounted to the wall, sensed temperature, and used air pressure and mechanical systems to control dampers. This invention grew in popularity, and he founded Johnson Controls. Compressed air ran entire HVAC networks by adjusting dampers and valves before electricity went mainstream. Engineers experimented with bi-metallic strips, which could open or close an electrical circuit based on temperature changes, which made thermostats smaller and cheaper. Honeywell came on the scene by hiring industrial designer Henry Dreyfuss, who invented the mercury thermostat: the T87 round thermostat. When the bimetal coil tilted, mercury rolled from one end to the other to complete or open the circuit. These thermostats had a heat anticipator, which kept them from overshooting the temperature. Unfortunately, when these thermostats were disposed of, the mercury polluted the environment and affected the central nervous system. The digital thermostat came on the scene to replace the mercury thermostat, which led to the development of the Nest smart thermostat. However, all this time, comfort has been associated with the number on the thermostat; smart comfort controls that learn our routines and monitor dew point, relative humidity, and IAQ are the next step to create true comfort and health.   Have a question that you want us to answer on the podcast? This program is a collaboration with the Society's Policy Department and the Education Department.  Professor Chang is joined in conversation with education senior advisor Linda Tobash, policy director Jonathan Corrado, and policy program officer Chelsie Alexandre.  Paperback copies of Professor Chang's newest book, The Risk of Compressed Modernity, are available for purchase online at a 20% discount using the code 20KSC. The Daily Boost | Coaching You Need. Success You Deserve.

Daily Boost Podcast Show Notes Stop Setting Fake Deadlines July 17, 2025 | Episode 5139 Host: Scott Smith Episode Description Scott dives into why most people spend their entire lives doing things they don't like—and how to flip that script. He shares a powerful conversation with a client who set a goal with a major financial penalty, revealing why fear-based motivation backfires every time. Using his signature pilot metaphors, Scott explains the difference between "short runway" and "long runway" thinking. You'll discover why self-imposed penalties don't work and how to create real urgency that actually moves you forward. Featured Story A client set an ambitious business goal with a massive financial penalty if he didn't hit his deadline. Sounds motivating, right? Wrong. Scott breaks down exactly why this approach fails and what happens when you realize your "short runway" is actually much longer than you think. The truth? When push comes to shove, most of us have way more runway than we admit. Scott reveals how one client thought he had nine months to make his business work—until he realized he actually had 15 years of assets to fall back on. Important Points Fear-based motivation only works when the threat is real, not self-imposed—most penalties we create for ourselves aren't actually that scary when we dig deeper. Your "runway" is probably longer than you think—when you factor in all your resources, assets, and options, that urgent deadline might not be so urgent after all. Compressed deadlines work when they're genuine, but self-imposed fake urgency just makes you ease up on the power when it matters most. Memorable Quotes "It's amazing how many people spend their entire life doing things they don't like to do, and I don't believe in that." "Fear does not motivate you—it only motivates if it's real." "When it gets real, when you know you're going to crash and burn, you will hit your deadline every single time." Scott's Three-Step Approach Calculate your real runway by listing all your assets, resources, and backup options—stop fooling yourself about how urgent your timeline actually is. Replace fear-based penalties with exciting rewards that pull you forward—find something big and fun that makes you want to sprint toward your goal. Make your deadlines real by creating genuine consequences, not arbitrary ones you can easily escape when things get tough. Connect With Me Search for The Daily Boost on Apple Podcasts and Spotify. Eric and Eliot are back from the break and have lots to discuss. They note the anniversary of January 6th and the somewhat successful efforts by MAGA types to rewrite its history in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary. Eric talks about the world that Trump will inherit which will be much more disorderly and dangerous that what he inherited in his first term as President, including an Iran on the cusp of having a nuclear weapons capability, the largest land war in Europe since World War II with battlefield situation for Ukraine looking grim even as Russia faces catastrophic losses of men and material, and Russia and China escalating an increasingly aggressive hybrid war of sabotage in the Baltic, off Taiwan and farther afield. They discuss turbulence of politics in the democratic world and the various causes of the rise of populist nationalism which has affected not just the U.S. but democracies around the world. They discuss Elon Musk's unprecedented role as an agent of political disruption around the democratic world and its byproducts in the UK, Germany, and Canada. Finally, they reprise their discussion of the futile efforts by members of the Biden Administration to polish and shape its foreign policy legacy through interviews and speeches when the final verdict will be rendered by historians likely to be unaffected by these transparently self-interested efforts. This episode was written by Andrew Anderson. We’re very pleased to bring you this episode, and more to come in the future, thanks to our friends at Twenty Thousand Hertz, a podcast that tells the stories behind the world's most recognizable and interesting sounds. The history of recorded sound stretches back over a hundred and fifty years, starting with a device that could “record” a voice on a piece of paper. Today, we can enjoy lossless streaming anywhere we go… but getting here wasn't easy. In this episode, our friends at Twenty Thousand Hertz worked with Qobuz, the high quality music platform, to chart the history of audio mediums, from cylinders made of tin foil and wax, to vinyl, 8-track, cassette, CDs, and mp3s. Along the way, they explore the innovations and quirks of each format, with memories sent in from their listeners and the 20K team. Featuring Adam Tovell from the British Library Sound Archive. Then, stay tuned afterwards as David MacDonald and Philip Rothman tie all of this “related technology” back to the “music notation” portion of the Scoring Notes mission, and explore how music notation and recorded sound are complementary sides of what makes a song a song. Further reading: What Is a Song?, by Ben Sisario from The New York Times, about the copyright questions raised in the lawsuit involving Marvin Gaye's “Let's Get It On” and Ed Sheeran's song “Thinking Out Loud”. Post-Gazette sports columnist Paul Zeise reacts to the day in Pittsburgh Sports news around 5 p.m. Is the Steelers' compressed schedule that forces them to face the Eagles, Ravens and Chiefs in an 11-day span fair? Or does the NFL need to reconsider stretches like this moving forward? How does Patrick Mahomes' ankle injury factor into expectations for coach Mike Tomlin, QB Russell Wilson and RB Najee Harris vs. the defending Super Bowl champion Chiefs? And how big of a boost will it be if T.J. Watt is able to play vs. Lamar Jackson and the Ravens this week? Paul tackles those topics, gives final thoughts on Penn State's College Football Playoff matchup vs. SMU and ponders what an NCAA women's volleyball national title could mean for Pitt.
