Defend the GPO and Save Moore St.There is widespread anger at the decision by the Irish government to convert the historic GPO in Dublin into shops and offices. Last Saturday hundreds gathered in O'Connell St. to protest at the government's plans for the GPO and for the Moore St. Battlefield site. Their demand is for the protection of the cultural and revolutionary heritage of this part of Dublin.Every nation that fought for its freedom from colonial rule - often from the British - has hallowed ground, the place where patriots made a stand against injustice and occupation. For the people of Ireland, the GPO is one such place. It is the place where the revolutionary generation of the early 1900s declared for a Republic and where the Pearse read the Proclamation of that republic.Best International DocumentaryI spent the weekend in Galway and Mayo. The weather was amazing. The countryside with its miles of stone walls separating plots of land and the lush colours of green and rocky inclines was a joy to travel through.I was in Galway on Saturday to attend the Galway Film Festival/Fleadh where Trisha Ziff's film – A Ballymurphy Man - was receiving its world premiere. The cinema in the old Town Hall where the Festival is centred was packed to capacity for the screening. The audience was hugely attentive and very welcoming when Trisha and I went on the stage at the end of the screening to talk about the making of the documentary.A Week in the Life and Death of GAZAI first met Mustafa Barghouti in the west Bank in 2014. Join my upcoming Positive Intelligence© Program: https://www.vickibaird.com/positive-intelligence-purchase-vicki-bairdJoin my upcoming In this episode of Intuition: Your Success Compass, I'm pulling back the curtain and sharing what a real week in my life looks like—not because it's glamorous or packed with hustle, but because it's intentional, grounded, and soul-aligned. You'll hear why I'm shifting the podcast to audio-only, and how I've built rhythms that support my energy, business, and joy. From volunteering at a horse sanctuary to strength training and mindful coffee rituals, I share how routines like PQ reps, meal prepping, and rest time help me stay connected to both my intuition and productivity. This isn't about being “busy”—it's about being aligned. If you're looking to create a more organized and fulfilling life with less stress and more soul, this episode will give you ideas to start small, stay steady, and build something that truly supports you. Tune in—and maybe ask yourself: What's one rhythm you can add to make your life feel a little more like yours?
A flame flickers inside the wheel well of a beloved 1992 Ford F-250, threatening to consume it. Just days earlier, another flame—hope for the Toronto Maple Leafs—had burned briefly before being extinguished in yet another Game 7 heartbreak. Such is the rhythm of life for our host this week, where catastrophes and triumphs arrive in clusters. This episode chronicles an eventful week that begins with the emotional saga of the Maple Leafs' playoff run. After reluctantly allowing himself to believe in his team during Game 3, our host experiences the familiar crushing disappointment of elimination. His candid reflection on the core players—particularly Mitch Marner—reveals the deep wounds carried by long-suffering fans who remember legends like Wendell Clark leaving everything on the ice.The narrative shifts to personal misadventures when a scaffold collapses beneath him at his island cottage, resulting in a four-inch gash requiring seven stitches. This first-ever experience with stitches leads to an unexpected souvenir—the medical instruments used in the procedure, typically discarded after a single use. The emergency highlights a crucial lesson for remote property owners: invest in a comprehensive first aid kit. Most dramatic is the roadside discovery of flames inside his truck's wheel well, and the ill-advised attempt to extinguish them with windshield washer fluid—which proves flammable, creating a momentary inferno. This practical lesson in automotive safety is delivered with the host's characteristic self-deprecating humor. The week's misfortunes continue as he returns home to discover rats have decimated his flock of meat chickens, reducing 75 birds to just 24 in a shocking overnight massacre. Amid these challenges, he shares valuable tips for garlic cultivation using concrete reinforcement mesh—a technique that yielded over 200 cloves in a small raised bed.Throughout these trials, our host maintains the resilience, resourcefulness, and good humor essential for life in the wilderness. Whether you're a cottage owner, outdoor enthusiast, or simply enjoy tales of rural misadventure, this episode offers both practical wisdom and entertaining storytelling about navigating life's unexpected challenges.

Most people have no idea what I do for a living, and to be honest, most of how I spend my time doesn't look like the things I did when I was in college. Have things gone terribly wrong for me? What about Andrew? I'm pretty confident that his role as an architect is different than how he imagined it to be … and I think that this is all okay. It should be an interesting conversation, and possibly a mandatory exercise, to find out how architects actually spend their time. Chances are better than likely that the day to day experience for every single architect is unique with only a small bit of overlap … and that is what we are here to talk about. Welcome to EP 172: A Week in the Life of an Architect [Note: If you are reading this via email, click here to access the on-site audio player] Today we are going to be talking about how we spend our time. I have answered this question as “A Day in the Life of an Architect” exactly 4 time previously on this website. https://www.lifeofanarchitect.com/an-actual-day-in-the-life/ The very first "day in the life" sort of post that I ever wrote back on March 10, 2010. At this point, the website was barely 2 months old and I was with a firm that specialized in residential work. Since this was the first time I decided to talk about "a day in the life" I literally went minute by minute through my entire day, starting at 5:50am. https://www.lifeofanarchitect.com/a-day-in-the-life-of-an-architect/ Fast forward over 4 years to December 1, 2014 ... by this point I had changed jobs and was now working at a company where I had my name on the door, which suggests that I had some control over how I worked and spent my time. In this post, rather than going minute through minute along the tasks of my day, I broke into big chunks based on tasks ... one of which was making a margarita. https://www.lifeofanarchitect.com/ep-064-a-day-in-the-life-of-an-architect/ Time for some more changes - on to job number 3 since I started the website. This particular day was the first to be immortalized into a podcast episode that went live on December 6, 2020. Andrew was struggling with Covid at the time of this recording so I had frequent guest and neighbor/architect Lane Acree on to discuss our particular days as it related to how we go about our business in the capacity of Principals at our firm. In an attempt to keep things somewhat fresh, beyond having another person's perspective being added to the mix, we simply broke down our days into early morning, morning, lunch afternoon, and evening. In each of these episodes, I typically choose a pretty interesting day – mostly because I wanted to look cool and that my job was exciting. I also think it is interesting to go back through these “day in the life” snapshots to see how my typical day changed as I changed firms and as I changed responsibilities. So rather than simply looking at a singular day that was selected because it was a “cool” day, we are going to change it up and actually look at a week of time so that we can avoid the possibility of selecting a singularly fabulous day. Monday jump to 7:58 a look at my work calendar for the week we are discussing today Bob I can't stand Monday … it is easily the worst day of the week. All the meetings associated with preparing everyone for the work to be done that week, as well as all the in-house obligations – meaning, I don't actually get a lot of work done on Mondays but yet my day is always full and I start the week off behind every single time. While the "Staffing Meeting" isn't the first thing I do on a Monday morning, it is typically the first meeting I have. Since I have Project Manager responsibilities in the office, that means I have some dominion over who is working where and on what. This meeting is generally about making sure that people are all keep busy, but not overly so. Almost immediately upon the completion of this first meeting, I have a Marketing and Digital strategy meeting.
This is how we structure our days and weeks to manage and build our businesses, and lives. This week's topics:1. What data to track & how to review it 6:502. Jill K DeWit: And I'm Jill DeWit and this is The Land Academy Show. Steven Jack Butala: This is episode number 2005 and today we are talking about a week in the life of a successful land investor. Jill K DeWit: This is going to be good. Steven Jack Butala: Yeah. Steven Jack Butala: So important. Jill K DeWit: It really is. This is going to be touched upon today, but further explained in the future in some things that we're preparing for. Steven Jack Butala: So I would argue that what we're going to talk about today, which is really organization and self-discipline and being an entrepreneur and a bunch of stuff like that ... And we'll get into a pretty good amount of detail. I think this is equally as important, probably more important than knowing how to buy and sell land. Jill K DeWit: Having a plan. Steven Jack Butala: Well and just executing your ... We're going to talk about a week in the life. So you can sit down and be the greatest planner in the world Monday through Friday, and if you don't execute it and have self-discipline about it's just not going to be as effective as you want. Jill K DeWit: Well, today for me is really about what should I be doing every day? What do I focus on? And here's the reality. The reason we're talking about this is a successful full-time land investor, and we're going to talk about it that way because so many people in Land Academy have come to us, started out with W2 jobs, left W2 jobs, and now they're in it and this is how to organize your life basically and organize your week. But everything we're talking about today can be applied even if you're like Jill and Jack, I only have maybe two to three hours a day to throw out this and that's okay. So you can shorten it. The process and the steps are the same and how you think about your day-to-day stuff is the same. You're going to have to get a little more efficient at it. Steven Jack Butala: Well, it's like everything. We can tell you how we do it very successfully. We can give you now, after 10 years of doing this, almost 10 years real core examples with people's first names on how they did it. In some cases more successful than us. But in the end you're going to apply it to your life. Jill K DeWit: Isn't that interesting? You just said 10 years of Land Academy. But gosh, 25 something years- Steven Jack Butala: 30 for me. Jill K DeWit: There you go. Steven Jack Butala: It's 30 this year. Jill K DeWit: Oh my gosh. It's 15 almost for me. That's a lot. Steven Jack Butala: So we may or may not be qualified to talk about this stuff. Jill K DeWit: Yeah. There we go. Steven Jack Butala: You decide. Jill K DeWit: That's perfect. Steven Jack Butala: Each week on the show we answer a question from our Land Academy member Discord Forum, and take a deep dive into a land related topic by popular request from our Land Academy community. Let's take a question, Jill. Jill K DeWit: Okay. Cooper wrote, hi everyone. I am new to Land Academy and looking forward to getting to know this group. I started on my own several months ago learning from every free resource I could find. Steven Jack Butala: Excellent. This is a great way to start off your career. There's so much free content out there, including this. Jill K DeWit: Yeah. Yeah. Go back and listen to the years of this.

“Sometimes it's easy to take feedback to mean that your story's broken when it's not.” - Savannah GilboI'm taking you behind the scenes with me throughout my entire work week! You'll see how I plan my days, what projects I work on, what I learn from the writers I work with, and so much more! Here's a preview of what's included:[01:48] Sunday Update - This week will be a mixed bag. I'm taking a 2-day online course from Laura Belgray, who's sharing a behind-the-scenes look at her most recent book launch. The other fun thing I'm doing is giving a presentation for ProWritingAid's Romance Writers Week. Also, the third Crescent City book from Sarah J. Maas comes out this week, and I am so excited to read that. [06:48] Monday Update - Today, there are two big things I need to do: craft some emails for the Women In Publishing Summit, which I'm speaking at in March. The other big thing I'm working on is growing my email list and one of the ways I'm planning to do that is to be a guest on as many other writing podcasts as possible. [11:08] Tuesday Update - I'm coaching a writer who is working on two stories at once. Working on two projects at once would be hard for most people to handle. However, because this author has two novels in different stages of the process, it allows her to use different parts of her brain on different days.[16:33] Wednesday Update - The virtual class that Laura Belgray is hosting is about how she launched her book, Tough Titties, and it was awesome. I also have a little bit of a selfish reason for wanting to see what she did because I have a book coming out later this year, and I'm hoping to learn from what Laura did so that I can have a great book launch myself. [21:03] Thursday Update - It's so easy to second-guess ourselves when it comes to mapping out or outlining our stories. There are so many decisions to be made. If you are a student of my Notes to Novel class, you can submit your loglines for me to review during any of our Q&A calls. If you don't know what a logline is, it's essentially a 1-2 sentence summary of your story—and you can craft it before you've even outlined or written a single word of your book. [28:57] Friday Update - I am writing a book and it's an analysis of the first Harry Potter book. It's a craft book for writers that's going to dig into the big picture and the small picture to find out why and how this story works so well. This project is something I started 5+ years ago, and it got shelved for various reasons but is now coming back into the spotlight.
