The Texas Tech Medical School recently approved an agreement with the United States Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights, to end the use of racial preferences in their admissions process. The agreement was reached after over a decade of negotiation, initiated by a complaint filed by the Center for Equal Opportunity against Texas Tech in 2004. I will be speaking with Dr. Peggy McLeod who currently is the Vice President of Education and Workforce Development at Unidos US a bi-partisan nonprofit organization that works with Latino communities across the United States. Dr. McLeod is currently in the Texas regional office of Unidos US. She has specialized in the field of special education for her entire career and this led her to become a political appointee in the Clinton administration where she worked at the Department of Education's Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services from 1995-2001. We discuss her career and her experiences working in a cabinet level department.
