God's Presence Series- Hiding in God or Hiding from God? So today, I would love to ask a rhetorical question- Are you hiding in God or hiding from God? We learnt in Genesis 2 of how God planted a garden eastward in Eden and put Adam in charge to tend and keep it. Adam had liberty to feed on every tree of the garden except one. Which if eaten, will cut him off from God's presence which also means spiritual death. Vs. 15 Adam got busy. He named all the cattle, birds of air and every beast but he could not find a Help comparable. Eventually Adam was able to find a Help suitable as God described in Gen 2:21-25. Though they were both naked but not ashamed. The nakedness described in this verse is INTIMACY. They were intimate with God, they had nothing to hide. They had no fear. In chapter 3, Here comes Satan, checking out on Eve's obedience to God's Word. It was obvious that Eve was aware of the instructions God gave to her husband as it relates in Gen 3:2-3 “And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.' ”” Genesis 3:2-3 NKJV Eve allowed herself to be deceived by the Enemy. Her husband - Adam also become an Accomplice. Eventually, they hid themselves from God. They went to hide from God not knowing that there is nothing hidden from God They felt fear, their sense of innocence- holiness- stripped off them as a result of their disobedience. They started hiding from Who they were supposed to hide in. They were hiding from Who is supposed to hide them in Himself- in His love and protection. Adam and Eve allowed Sin to be cut them off from God's presence. Thank God for the second and last Adam- Jesus- His death and resurrection reconciled us to God. We have access to His abiding and manifest Presence (Holy Spirit) of God. We can bodily come and stay in God's presence without fear “Now that we know what we have—Jesus, this great High Priest with ready access to God—let's not let it slip through our fingers. We don't have a priest who is out of touch with our reality. He's been through weakness and testing, experienced it all—all but the sin. So let's walk right up to him and get what he is so ready to give. Take the mercy, accept the help.” Hebrews 4:14-16 MSG Do not allow sin to hide you from God and His Word. Be intentional to stay hidden in God's presence. “You give them a place to hide, and you keep them safe with you. When their enemies want to attack them, you take care of them. When their enemies speak lies against them, they are safe with you.” Psalms 31:20 EASY Remember, God has given you a place in Himself, to hide in. Today we talk about childhood trauma and the impact it has on children. Adam tells about an experience he had in high school, getting made fun of because of his weight and sort of nerdiness, and then the impact it had on his thinking. We talk about how much pain he went through and how this affected his desire to go to school. Eventually Adam felt he became the bully, or the very thing he loathed. We talk about the divorce of Adam's parents and how much that impacted his ability to even have conversations. Rosie tells about how Adam's desire to cook rather than have her cook stems from Adam's past and not because he thinks Rosie is bad at cooking. Adam's story and experience 2:18How it impacted his grades 4:34How bullying affected Adam later in life 7:40Adam's parents' divorce 11:55Rosie's take 15:48“So often we don't realize that adults are carrying childhood trauma into the now, and there might be nearly bipolar experiences happening. What one person is experiencing with someone could be completely different for someone else. And it could just be that they're triggering the old trauma.” 11:14https://www.facebook.com/theirishmummy/ https://www.instagram.com/the_irish_mummy/https://www.theirishmummy.comhttps://www.theirishmummy.com/ebook
