Episode Notes: Welcome back to Arcade Cozy! This week, we've got a little bit of everything: some good news, some bad news, some fun times, and some not so fun times. First, the not so fun -- Xbox. You know em, you love (?) them. It's coming out that, more than likely, they will be closing a number of the studios they've been buying up over the last 10 years or so with the first being Ninja Theory, developers of games like Hellblade. So, we talk about that. Then, what we've been playing and, on the back half, Corey regales us with some insightful World Cup discussions. It's a great one, so grab your favorite beverage, cozy up, and enjoy!Games discussed include Halo, Gears of War, Hellblade, Senua, Final Fantasy X, Mina the Hollower, and more!Do you have thoughts on what we talked about today? Are there things that we missed? Or do you have a few games you'd like us to check out? Hit us up on one of the avenues below—we would love to connect with you.Email us at arcadecozy@gmail.comFollow us on IG (@arcadecozy)Intro & outro music by Johnnybgood89 (@johnnybgood89 on IG)

We break down what these reports could mean for the future of Xbox Game Studios, Hellblade, South of Midnight, Psychonauts, and the broader Xbox ecosystem. We also dive into troubling reports surrounding Bungie, as the PlayStation-owned studio could reportedly lose up to 50% of its workforce following the conclusion of Destiny 2's story and Marathon's underwhelming launch performance. What does this mean for Bungie's future under Sony? Is Destiny 3 truly off the table? And can Marathon recover? Plus, we discuss Housemarque's future after Saros, why the studio sees itself following a path similar to FromSoftware, and what PlayStation fans can expect from one of Sony's fastest-growing first-party teams. Join us as we break down the biggest gaming industry stories of the week, the future of Xbox, Bungie, PlayStation Studios, and the state of the games business in 2026.

Resident Evil Requiem isn't out yet so we had to find something to do. Chamberlain finished High on Life 2 and recommends 1/3 of its humor but none of its gameplay. He also started Echoes of the End, a game no one else has heard of, that he describes as 'Hellblade without the annoying puzzles and suffocating pretentiousness'. Alex continues his tour of old games on new hardware, discovering that Super Mario Galaxy is much better when it isn't on the Wii. And Chance's desire to sneak around as a goblin beat out his desire to wield a sword in one hand and a wand in the other. The new Styx is AA goodness!

After years of secrecy and many delays, Xbox is set to pull the lid off one of its most anticipated RPGs at the upcoming Developer Direct. First rumored in 2017 and announced in 2020, Fable has been baking at Playground Games, the prolific racing game studio, for a long, long time. Now, Xbox promises a deep dive on everything from combat and choice to British humor and chickens. Is it do or die time for Fable? How does its early year showing shake up the already packed summer showcase? Will we finally get a release date? Perhaps just a release year? Indeed, there are so many questions, but most of these will be announced very shortly! Its our 400th episode! We might be recording a day early but that doesn't mean the news stops. Apparently the Doomsday trailers are a story, not a cohesive one though. Jackass is returning to theaters, but at what cost? GameStop is closing stores, are you surprised? Plus reactions to the Golden Globes, and more!
In today's Daily Fix:Battlefield Studios is delaying the launch of Battlefield 6 Season 2 to address community feedback. Fans have previously complained about the lack of updates and content in Season 1, so the team is taking extra time to work on Season 2, which will now drop on February 17. In other news, Ninja Theory is reportedly working on a new Hellblade game, this one meant to be more of a 'game' that the previous two. While Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 was praised for its story and visuals, many complained there wasn't much of a game to actually play. And finally, scalpers are already selling pre-orders for the recently-announced LEGO Pokémon sets for hundreds more than the MSRP. Of particular value is the gym badge set, which is only included with the nearly $700 Charizard-Venusaur-Blastoise set.
Is your PlayStation 5 about to break? Probably not, but speculation is increasingly circulating suggesting that the old run of PS5s -- pre-Slim and pre-Pro -- may start running into a 'liquid metal' problem that's causing issues for some players. What does this all mean, from where does this speculation stem, and what (if anything) can be done about it? We discuss in detail. Plus: Death Stranding 2 is out, and thus it's time for us to gush! Then: The other news of the week, including Hellblade II's PS5 release date, rumors of RPG progression systems in Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, PlayStation Plus turns 15, SEGA accidentally leaks a ton of sales data, and more. Finally: Listener inquiries. What's the best 'one-hit wonder' game? With PlayStation: The Concert coming Stateside, do we have any interest in attending? Which studio's three-game run is most impressive, quality-wise? Will you, too, find a Sacred Symbols shirt in your local Goodwill or Salvation Army? It was supposed to be a slow news week, so naturally we talked for almost four hours on the latest in gaming. Heading up our show is a recurrent subject: layoffs at Xbox. Despite Phil's claims about a sustainable business, the cuts keep coming. Of course, that leaves us in a bit of a pickle. What parts of Xbox business are faltering? We're about a year removed from last year where Xbox began shutting down multiple teams, so it's not a far cry to say we may be approaching that point. We haven't seen Game Pass numbers in a hot minute, titles like South Of Midnight and Hellblade 2 have questionable sales at best, and the green team is all but officially confirmed to be out on physical games. So, which is it, if any? We gab quite a bit before leaving it to next week where we'll get official confirmation. Plus, Xbox integrating other PC storefronts into their app, righting the record on Final Fantasy XVI, diving into Lies Of P sales figures, and so much more in what was an unexpectedly meaty (oh!) episode of Defining Duke. Please keep in mind that our timestamps are approximate, and will often be slightly off due to dynamic ad placement. 0:00:00 - Intro0:16:24 - Health Is Wealth0:32:22 - Correcting FF16 information from last week0:41:52 - A new Halo game is releasing… kinda0:54:16 - Meta Quest 3S Xbox Edition announced1:01:46 - SEGA sales data leaks1:14:08 - Persona 4 Revival & Stranger Than Heaven release info1:17:35 - Blood Of Dawnwalker Gameplay deep dive1:22:58 - Cyberpunk 2077 update 2.3 has been delayed1:27:54 - Layoffs headed for Mindseye developer1:40:01 - Blood Message reveal reaction1:43:03 - Rematch devs respond to crossplay issues1:48:34 - Third party Switch 2 sales below estimates1:59:03 - Splitgate 2 devs face layoffs2:12:25 - Lies Of P difficulty settings2:23:24 - What We're Playing3:08:15 - Major Xbox layoffs inbound3:33:13 - Steam library comes to Xbox PC App3:45:03 - Game Pass Pick Of The Week Learn more about your ad choices. The last couple of weeks for Bungie have been nothing short of catastrophic, calling into question whether their upcoming extraction shooter Marathon has any chance at all in finding market success. We've long discussed whether Sony should have bought Bungie at all (they shouldn't have), but now that they're so deeply invested, how do they get the team out of this mess? And what does all of this hullabaloo -- about stolen art, poorly-reviewed gameplay, and lackluster audience reaction -- say about the team's future, full stop? Meanwhile, things aren't much better north of the border, where Quebec-based Haven recently parted ways with founder and once-famous producer Jade Raymond, who has now left three different teams without any sort of release. Is Fairgame$ DOA? Maybe not, but we have lots of new information on the recent closed test of the game under the moniker Project Hearts, and... well... it's not sounding great. Also: MLB: The Show is seemingly getting a mobile release, PlayStation Stars is going away unceremoniously, Stellar Blade 2 is in active development, Xbox's Hellblade II is coming to PS5, Kojima's Physint is at least five more years away, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! Keeping in mind Sony's typical naming conventions, what will PlayStation 6's controller be called? Do we also find delight in Darth Vader's AI voice in Fortnite? Is the PS5 Pro truly worth purchasing before prices likely go up? Has Chris ever seen a ghost? Please keep in mind that our timestamps are approximate, and will often be slightly off due to dynamic ad placement.Timestamps: 0:00:00 - Intro00:44:13 - Best man bromance00:46:03 - ghoul-ing01:04:41 - Haven/Jade Raymond reflections01:37:51 - Bungie art theft reflections02:33:15 - MLB: The Show mobile02:38:25 - PlayStation Stars is over02:51:24 - Stellar Blade sequel coming02:56:49 - Kojima's next game is far off03:01:41 - Hellblade 2 is coming to PS503:05:56 - Randy Pitchford on Borderlands 4 pricing03:26:21 - Circana data03:35:21 - New Naughty Dog logo03:37:18 - Doom: The Dark Ages surpasses three million players03:40:44 - What Are We Playing (Doom The Dark Ages, Stardew Valley, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Shovel Knight Dig)04:05:34 - Iconic PlayStation Games04:16:19 - ChatGPT game hints04:19:15 - DualSense 2?4:22:38 - AI Vader in Fortnite04:28:19 - "Editions" releases04:35:04 - Current thoughts on PS5 Pro Learn more about your ad choices. Much has been said about Xbox's multiplatform shift, but Xbox finally has games AND they're selling. It's truly a momentous occasion! The Dukes bend the knee as they assess a strong month for Xbox bringing four of the five best selling games to other platforms. What does this mean for the Switch 2 ports and Xbox's brand identity? Naturally, we unpack that. We also get into the thick of Bungie's latest plagiarism scandal. Just how damning are the accusations and is Marathon on the brink of cancellation? If it were to get to its release, what does it need to keep the studio alive? Indeed, things look incredibly grim for Bungie and many exit strategies are likely being planned. Please keep in mind that our timestamps are approximate, and will often be slightly off due to dynamic ad placement. 0:00:00 - Intro0:08:19 - Health Is Wealth0:17:35 - Write Ins0:20:35 - Xbox handheld leaks0:25:48 - Xbox is dominating on PlayStation0:38:06 - Microsoft cuts 3% of its overall workforce0:40:04 - Xbox announces “Retro Classics”0:46:30 - Xbox is talking to Steam for its next console0:52:51 - DOOM: The Dark Ages has reached 3 million players0:59:41 - Gears Of War movie has its director1:05:27 - Oblivion Remastered's completion rate is concerning?1:09:20 - Jade Raymond leaves Haven Studio1:20:18 - Arrowhead's next game might come to Xbox1:25:03 - Atomfall is getting a sequel or spin-off1:27:33 - Randy Pitchford on $80 for Borderlands 41:37:53 - New Kingdom Hearts 4 screenshots1:44:59 - Red Dead Redemption 2 is getting a current gen update1:45:46 - Cyberpunk Orion details1:47:56 - What We're Playing2:04:10 - Bungie is caught stealing art… again2:41:23 - Hellblade 2 to PS5 this summer2:50:26 - Avowed director leaves Obsidian3:10:19 - Coming soon to Xbox Game Pass3:17:39 - Game Pass Pick Of The Week Learn more about your ad choices.
