sent $$$ this week to Norcal Resist.norcalresist.orgHi, I’m changing things up a little over here. Since July 2020 I’ve sent weekly cash to an entity or person doing the work or in need of funds. Connecting it to the radio show has been a way for me to budget and redistribute money regularly and to share about where I was sending it so maybe you would too. Well, I did my taxes and turns out my budgeting was off. For now I’m just going to do a monthly sustainer with Norcal Resist at a more sustainable rate until I can get back to it. I’m giving some time to mutual aid projects, but I’ll try to do more. If you’re in a position to give money to people/groups, and you haven’t yet made a plan to do it on the regular, I urge you to figure it out.Love, HoshwaDOWNLOAD RECORDINGsubscribe to the podcast here: http://feeds.feedburner.com/5432fun(intro by omar)Major Murphy “Coming Around” Lafayette EPMore Eaze “the symphony” ConveyanceT-Rextasy “Coffee?” PrehysteriaTrue Blossom “Flu Punks” HeaterFauvely “Good News” WTLD home demosOrchid Mantis “lifted” yellow houseTurtlenecked “Riding Bikes Along The Springwater Corridor” Springtime In HellEmily A. sent $$$ this week to Elena & Alej Fire Recovery Fund.gofund.me/a6f12602 / instagram.com/p/CYiO_Virq9J“To give a brief recap, my best friend Alej and I were neighbors and lived in a 4-unit old victorian building. There was a fire that broke out at 4am Thursday morning and not a single fire detector went off. An unhoused man saw the flames and woke up the whole building. If he hadnt, my dog and I would have died in our sleep from the smoke filling my apartment. My neighbors and their pets would also have died or been severly injured. Our landlords have been extremely unclear and have left us unguided without many resources to navigate this situation. We frantically packed up our apartments in less than 24hrs, loaded up a uhaul and threw everything in a storage unit. My two neighbors had their apartments fully destroyed by the fire. Although mine and Alej apartments were not burned, every single thing we own has been damaged by smoke toxins and potentially asbestos. Our storage unit is filled with our belongings however most things will need to be replaced. Many things were left behind like our couches, dining tables, etc. We are grateful for the love and support of our loved ones, but we will need community support.”DOWNLOAD RECORDINGsubscribe to the podcast here: http://feeds.feedburner.com/5432fun(intro by omar)P.E.E. “Train Song” i win me over.Brin “bow at it or something” TaleaPeach Pyramid “Repeating Myself” Repeating MyselfIng “dust” self titledAlloys “Houses” Alloystwelve gardens “olympic gold” BEAN DAYAlien Nosejob “Maggie” Various Fads & Technological AchievementsNakata “everything was beautiful and nothing hurt” Bokanovsky’s ProcessSunshine Frisbee Laserbeam “Adult Memory Oww” Blackout CowboyBombshell Nightlight “Your Eyes” Bombshell Nightlight2nd Grade “Superglue” Wish You Were Here TourBlack Wine “Haunted” Black WineBarrie “Michigan” SinglesZula “Econolodge” New YearsWell Wisher “I Know Better” This is FineBB and the Blips “Lucky Country” Shame JobBoreen “Lovely” LovelyMilitant Girlfriend “Segue” Militant GirlfriendFauvely “Savannah” Tides
I'm sitting down with Sophie Brochu of the dream pop band Fauvely to discuss their record Beautiful Places that was released on April 2nd, their AudioTree performance and the beautiful music video for the album's title track. We talk also discuss how she and her husband ended up leaving Chicago to move back to their hometown of Savannah Georgia. No matter how beautiful our art is, many of us have dark thoughts that live in our mind and Sophie shares four dark stories that have taken up residence in her brain. Inspiration comes from so many places and we talk about doing the work while also being open to the little sparks magic that find you.
Fauvely is a meandering indie pop quintet formed in 2017 and fronted by songwriter Sophie Brochu. She incorporates expressive melodies, deeply personal lyrics into loose, laid-back constructions meant to ease the anxieties of those who listen. Check out the killer full band performance by Fauvely live at Audiotree. Lots of reminiscing about John’s dumber moments. Self-sabotage. The new economy. Also great, excellent music. (All podcasts and reviews are on www.hlycrp.com, and you can also follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, and Spotify, and Apple Podcasts.)
sent $$$ this week to the Louisville Community Bail Fund.bit.ly/loucommbailfundBreonna Taylor.“The Louisville Community Bail Fund is a project of BLM Louisville. To build transformative communities, we must perform transformative acts of liberation. Cash bail is one of the aspects of the criminal justice system that keeps communities wrapped up in systemic slavery and in debt. The need to end cash bail is not new. Thanks to the Ferguson Uprising and the Kalief Browder story, we know that the bail system creates financial barriers for those who find themselves against the criminal justice system. One of the largest barriers is not being able to afford bail. The Louisville Community Bail Fund exists to not only bail out folks, but provide post-release support to get them from jail, fed, and to a situation of safety. LCBF also maintains a focus on preventative measures for those targeted by law enforcement and threatened with incarceration. While we work with national networks, we are also one of the only bail funds that rely entirely on support from individuals in our social justice community.”DOWNLOAD RECORDINGsubscribe to the podcast here: http://feeds.feedburner.com/5432fun(intro by omar)Jay Arner “Street Freaks” Jay IIPaper Gates “Cat Sticker” Art SongsFake Buildings “Rest Assured” Primitive AdvertisingFauvely “Big Head” Watch Me Overcomplicate ThisThe Stevens “Rosebud” GoodThe Expos “Grill” PerfectCool Ghouls “Days” Animal RacesTYLER HOLMES “I Don’t Remember” DEMOFelicia Atkinson “CURIOUS IN EPIDAVROS” Hand In HandBitchen Seahorse “Vertical Seaweed” Bitchin’ Seahorse Tour EP 2016Rut “Control” Attraction 7"Matthew Okuda “you win some you dim sum” floor daySpray Paint “Voice Modulator” DopersReally From “Variations on an Aria” VerseSecret Colors “Fall Back in Love” Passing Through AgainCOOKIE TONGUE “Rubber Hard Thumb” Orphan ArmsRyan Kayhart “Post Human (You’re So Sweaty)” Dead Flower PeopleSecret Shame “Machine” EPJean Jam “i’ll tell ya what” Punk is Gay and So Can You: a Four Way SplitCRISSY BELL “Rough Ideas of Love” Rough Ideas of Love

In this episode of Music Therapy, I talk with Sophie, the principal songwriter and vocalist of Chicago band Fauvely. Sophie shares how the pandemic forced her to cancel her SXSW show and Japanese tour, as well as put recording a new album on hold, the challenges of working on music in a one-bedroom apartment she shares with her partner, and more! Fauvely is the project of Chicago-based singer-guitarist Sophie Brochu, who creates deeply personal dream-pop music. The title of her debut EP, "Watch Me Overcomplicate This" speaks to the confessional tone of songs that range from delicately self-effacing to hauntingly sad. The band, which includes Dale Price, Dave Piscotti, Scott Cortez, & Chace Wall, has cultivated a strong presence in Chicago, sharing the stage with internationally acclaimed artists Stella Donnelly, Gemma Ray, Ryley Walker, Laura Veirs, and Ultimate Painting. "This is What the Living Do" will be released in May 2019 on Diversion Records. Featured Song Name: What the Living Do Free Monday: Fauvely (EP Release) / Uma Bloo / Star Tropics: https://www.facebook.com/events/2159208214169379/
Nice Try, Hey Exit, Pouty, prior panic, Fauvely.
Fauvely is the project of Chicago-based singer-guitarist Sophie Brochu, who creates deeply personal dream-pop music. After completing her master’s in fiction writing and feeling frustrated with the constraints of her craft, Sophie turned to music for its raw and immediate release. The title of her debut EP, Watch Me Overcomplicate This (Midwest Action, 2017), speaks to the confessional tone of songs that range from delicately self-effacing to hauntingly sad. Fauvely’s forthcoming LP, Tides, transports listeners to the salty coast of Sophie’s hometown, Savannah, GA. Louder and bolder than her EP, these intensely brooding songs are the result of a new confidence possessed by Sophie, and the desire to come to terms with haunting memories in a place revered for its beauty. Fauvely has cultivated a strong presence in Chicago, sharing the stage with internationally acclaimed artists Stella Donnelly, Gemma Ray, Ryley Walker, and Ultimate Painting.
