More sophisticated than a flower-shaped plug-in and less treacherous than a forgotten candle left burning, Pura's device is a nifty hockey puck-sized disc that holds two different scent pods and can be controlled with an app to customize scent selection, timing, and intensity. The fragrance industry is trotting out AI more and more in new creations and creative development, but when it comes to digitizing smells, OSMO is a Google-born initiative that uses machine learning, sensory neuroscience, data science, engineering, fine fragrance, analytical chemistry, and product development to map smells, engineer new smell molecules, recreate living scents, and finagle how olfactory technology can aid other industries. We get philosophical and dig deeper into gender identity, and we talk about the challenges with finding language for something just beyond our grasp, nature vs nurture and what is innate in our identity, and peeling away layers and finding nothing. There was a fire that broke out at 4am Thursday morning and not a single fire detector went off. An unhoused man saw the flames and woke up the whole building. If he hadnt, my dog and I would have died in our sleep from the smoke filling my apartment. My neighbors and their pets would also have died or been severly injured. Our landlords have been extremely unclear and have left us unguided without many resources to navigate this situation. We frantically packed up our apartments in less than 24hrs, loaded up a uhaul and threw everything in a storage unit. My two neighbors had their apartments fully destroyed by the fire. Although mine and Alej apartments were not burned, every single thing we own has been damaged by smoke toxins and potentially asbestos. Our storage unit is filled with our belongings however most things will need to be replaced. “It was 2003, and I came to NYC with Greg Cornelius who is a saxophonist and composer at Bowling Green. And he and I were driving in his Dodge Caravan and I think we were listening to Music for 18 Musicians, and it was raining, and I remember seeing the city lights of New York, and just being overwhelmed with this idea that I need to be here.” Erin Rogers is a saxophonist and composer based in New York City. She is co-artistic director and core member of thingNY, Popebama, New Thread Quartet and Hypercube. Her music has been performed at the Prototype, Ecstatic, and MATA Festivals (NYC), Celebrity Series (Boston), Edmonton Fringe Festival, the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie, Centro Nacional de las Artes (Mexico City), and NYmusikk Bergen (Norway). Rogers is a member of LA super-group WildUp, and performs with the International Contemporary Ensemble, Talea, and Wet Ink. She is a D'Addario Woodwinds Performing Artist and Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center Teaching Artist. What little I knew about Bowling Green, and here I am in NJ meeting someone who went through the program and is doing such awesome work! I've been a fan ever since. Erin is so incredibly hard-working, juggling a varied and wide-ranging freelancing career as a composer and performer in NYC. Recently, she released a solo album titled 2,000 miles, which you can purchase on Bandcamp. It’s the source of life that always is, it is pure consciousness with the most simple eternal substance that was able to expand through it’s intent and desire to start simple creation. It does not consider itself a creator, because it does not have the power and more complexity in it’s essence to do so. - People want to have these powers and abilities, which can be activated through our third eye, but that’s not the natural way. Activating your third eye is an artificial approach. - Eternal beings do not need to attach to others. - Reincarnation happens because you don’t have enough essence of yourself to move forward. - There is a difference between third eye and pineal gland, New Age teachings put these two together. - People should be willing and able to ask questions. - Everything has energy, nothing is exactly the same. - Intuition is a knowledge within. - Your Highest Self is the only internal entity, you can feel it within you. - People don’t like leaving New Age, because New Age spirituality is known and comfortable. - All those psychodelics are dangerous, because ceremony or rituals call out an entity who is then waiting to get in contact with you during the ceremony. During those rituals you are not 100% aware of yourself, which makes it easy for them to attach themselves to you. Saxophonist Ryan Muncy is at the forefront of new music, collaborating closely with many of today's most cutting edge composers and ensembles. He received a Doctor of Music degree from Northwestern University in 2012 and has been a crucial member of many of today's most important ensembles such as the International Contemporary Ensemble, Talea, Ensemble Dal Niente, Wet Ink and others. For today's talk we get into it, discussing all matters sax and Ryan's work for the past two decades.
Paolo Angeli, guitarrista sardo residente en Barcelona, es un músico imprescindible en la escena de la libre improvisación internacional. Con base en la música tradicional de Cerdeña, ha tocado y grabado con los más grandes improvisadores: Evan Parker, Fred Frith, Hamid Drake, Ned Rothenberg, Louis Sclavis por citar a algunos a nivel internacional, y por supuesto con los músicos de la escena barcelonesa. En los últimos meses ha publicado varias grabaciones: su grabación en solitario Talea (ReR Megacorp, 2017. 2CD) registrada en lugares tan distintos como Australia, Brasil, Italia, Japon, Turquia, o USA; y la segunda grabación de la Piccola Orchestra Gagarin titulada Vostok (Whatabout Music, 2016): ambas grabaciones ya han sonado en HDO. En HDO 333 se recoge la charla del músico italiano con Pachi Tapiz acerca de sus últimas grabaciones, su visión de la improvisación y otros muchos temas. El tiempo de "London Calling" de Fernando Ortiz de Urbina está dedicado al lanzamiento de "Smokin' in Seattle: Live at the Penthouse", grabaciones inéditas del guitarrista Wes Montgomery y el trío de Wynton Kelly en 1966. One Two Free Fall es el nombre de un cuarteto que reúne al trompetista Julián Sánchez, la violinista Luz Prado, el contrabajista Juan Masana y el baterista Javier del Barco y que debuta discográficamente en el sello Underpool.
