What if the biggest thing standing between you and the life you want isn't your circumstances, your past, or your limitations, but the identity you've been programmed to believe is you? In this powerful conversation, Darin sits down with health entrepreneur, coach, and author Jim Curtis to explore what it really takes to release the past, reclaim personal responsibility, and consciously become a new version of yourself. After developing a spinal cord lesion at just 19 that eventually left him unable to walk, Jim spent years searching everywhere from major medical institutions to shamans, healers, hypnosis, and spiritual teachers for someone who could fix him. Eventually, his search brought him back to himself. Jim shares the framework behind his new book, The Book of Possibility: Release, Align, Become. Together, he and Darin unpack how childhood programming becomes adult identity, why awareness is the first step toward freedom, how resentment keeps us attached to old versions of ourselves, and why changing your life often requires having the courage to become someone your current identity doesn't yet recognize. They also explore the dangers of outsourcing your spiritual growth, psychedelics as tools rather than destinations, radical responsibility, forgiveness, purpose, human connection, and why the coming age of AI and automation may make genuine face-to-face connection more important than ever. Ultimately, this is a conversation about possibility: not waiting for someone to save you, but realizing that you are the possibility you've been searching for. What You'll Learn Why Jim believes you need to become your own guru instead of constantly searching for someone to fix you How a spinal cord lesion at 19 completely changed the trajectory of Jim's life Why pain and suffering can become gateways to transformation How childhood experiences and subconscious programming shape adult identity Jim's Release, Align, Become framework for creating lasting change Why forgiveness can free you without requiring reconciliation How radical responsibility breaks the victim-villain dynamic Why changing your identity can feel terrifying even when your current life is making you miserable The difference between using psychedelics as transformational tools and using them to escape Why human connection, purpose, curiosity, and presence may become increasingly valuable in an automated world Chapters 00:00:03 – Welcome to SuperLife 00:00:34 – Sponsor: MycoDog 00:02:01 – Meet Jim Curtis and The Book of Possibility 00:04:00 – What if you are the possibility? 00:05:17 – Why people stop themselves from dreaming 00:05:50 – Stop outsourcing your spiritual growth 00:07:05 – No one is coming to save you 00:08:28 – Ego, shadow work, and creating space to choose 00:09:10 – Why you should question the guru 00:10:11 – Ram Dass and the reality of being human 00:11:15 – Darin's first experience with ayahuasca 00:12:17 – Psychedelics can open the door, but then what? 00:13:02 – Sponsor: Manna Vitality 00:14:57 – Psychedelics, ibogaine, and bringing the lessons back to life 00:16:48 – Powerful tools aren't meant to become an escape 00:17:13 – Hypno-meditation and changing yourself from within 00:18:23 – Why Jim wouldn't take away your pain 00:19:09 – Jim's beliefs about trauma, illness, and healing 00:20:05 – The spinal cord lesion that changed Jim's life 00:20:55 – Losing his ability to walk and searching the world for healing 00:21:44 – Discovering hypnosis, meditation, and altered states 00:22:39 – Meeting Dr. Brian Weiss and experiencing past-life regression 00:23:11 – Wall Street, WebMD, and walking away from the wrong identity 00:24:10 – Jim's health collapses again 00:25:25 – The wake-up call that completely changed his future 00:26:02 – How radically changing your identity changes your life 00:27:31 – The Release, Align, Become method 00:28:12 – How childhood programming becomes adult identity 00:29:01 – You have to see the cage before you can escape it 00:29:24 – Forgiveness as a tool for releasing the past 00:30:02 – Escaping the cage of resentment 00:30:57 – Are adults still reacting from their eight-year-old selves? 00:31:25 – You are not your thoughts, emotions, or identity 00:32:05 – Why becoming someone new feels terrifying 00:33:24 – On the other side of pain is possibility 00:35:10 – Darin takes responsibility for the end of his marriage 00:37:14 – Breaking the villain-victim dynamic 00:38:01 – The small conversations that create enormous change 00:39:12 – Releasing the old self 00:39:44 – Aligning with what you actually want 00:40:30 – Who must you become to create that life? 00:41:15 – Creating and embodying a new identity 00:41:54 – Why healthy choices become acts of self-honor 00:42:37 – Building health into your identity instead of obsessing over it 00:44:07 – Expanding your consciousness and seeing new possibilities 00:45:26 – Reprogramming the brain through Jim's book and hypno-meditations 00:46:10 – What happens when possibilities start opening 00:46:51 – The possibility isn't outside you. You don't have to spend your entire life searching for the next guru, healer, relationship, achievement, or external thing that will finally make you whole. Become aware of the programming you absorbed, release the identity that no longer serves you, align with what you actually want, and start becoming the person capable of living it. The moment you stop waiting to be saved and recognize that you are the source, possibility stops being something somewhere in the future. It becomes who you are."

You've probably heard that your ovaries age 2.5x times faster than the rest of your body. I went looking for that study. It does not exist. In this episode I trace that number back to an uncited supplement company blog post, and then I give you the one that is real: ovarian aging shows up 15 to 20 years earlier than in any other tissue in your body. Your ovaries are not a fertility organ. They are the organ that sets the pace for your bones, your heart, your brain and how long you live. This is the first episode built on my four pillars: Nourish, Stack, Live and Align. See what the team at The Successful Bookkeeper has on right now →Jon Sheldon has lived through more transitions than most people can imagine — Marine Corps infantry, corporate finance director, and now founder of Belleau Wood Coaching. This episode is a practical conversation about what it actually takes to lead yourself and your team well: getting clear on purpose, planning for what will go wrong, and building the kind of confidence that only comes from taking action. Whether you're just starting your bookkeeping practice or managing a growing team, there's something here for you.Chapters[00:00] Purpose as the Common Thread[02:54] Jon's Background: Marines to Finance[08:00] Life's Purpose vs. Purpose Right Now[10:48] Accepting the Cost of Transition[15:00] Contingency Plans Beat Burning Boats[17:54] The Six-Step Decision Framework[22:00] Failure, Resilience, and Confidence[26:00] The Four-Pillar Performance Blueprint[31:00] Accountability and Radical Honesty[34:00] How to Connect with JonPurpose Is Not Just a ClichéJon believes purpose is the most overlooked driver in business — and in life. "Most people I run into don't ever take the time to, or have never taken the time to, really plan it out or think about what, how are they living a purposeful life?" It doesn't have to be a grand existential answer. Finding what fills you with purpose right now is enough to start leading better — yourself and the people around you.Plan for What Will Go WrongOne of the most practical ideas Jon brings from his Marine Corps days is what he calls "accepting the cost." Most people building a business focus on the vision and avoid thinking through what could go wrong — because they don't want to scare themselves out of it. Jon flips that: "Most battles are won with better contingency plans. That's how most missions are won — by thinking through the challenges and obstacles that are inevitably going to come." Knowing your worst-case scenarios in advance doesn't kill confidence. It creates it.A Six-Step Decision FrameworkJon teaches a repeatable process he calls Clarity, Condition, Cost, Align, Act, Adapt. Get clear on what you're deciding. Do a gear check — do you have everything you need? Establish the cost of what could go wrong. Make sure your first action actually aligns with your goal. Act. Then adapt based on what you learn. "I've had the best plan and then the first action has nothing to do with pushing my business forward." The framework keeps that from happening.Failure Is Part of the DealJon is direct about this: failing is how you build the confidence to lead. "You might not hire the right person the first time. You might not make a great investment here or there. It's how you bounce back from that and get resilient that's going to really boost your confidence." If you're just getting started, expect some rough patches. If you have a clear purpose tied to where you're going, those rough patches are easier to push through — because the destination still matters. The Four-Pillar Performance BlueprintJon works with every client through a four-pillar framework: Purpose (your why), Vision (a day-in-the-life picture of where you're headed, three years out), Ecosystem (who and what you're surrounding yourself with — including your tools and your workspace), and Motivators (what actually energizes you to take action). From there, his coaching is high accountability and action-driven: clients leave every session with a tracked action step, session notes, and metrics they've defined themselves. As Jon puts it, he's "tactfully tough and radically honest" — because most business owners don't have enough people in their corner telling them the truth.Links mentionedBelleau Wood Coaching website: belleauwood.coachInstagram: @belleauwood_coachingLinkedIn: Jonathan Sheldon (search "Jonathan Sheldon Belleau Wood Coaching")Start With Why by Simon SinekAbout the guestJon Sheldon is the founder of Belleau Wood Coaching and a former Marine Corps infantryman who completed two back-to-back deployments to Iraq, leading 13 Marines through more than 200 combat missions. After leaving the military, he built a 14-year career in financial planning — running his own practice and then directing a regional team — before going full time into leadership coaching. He works with business owners and their teams on purpose, decision-making, and building the kind of resilient confidence that actually holds up when things get hard.About the hostMichael PalmerMichael Palmer is the host of The Successful Bookkeeper podcast and co-founder of Pure Bookkeeping and The Successful Bookkeeper. He started this work because of his father — a brilliant electrical contractor who worked twice as hard as he should have had to, because nobody on the financial side was in his corner. That gap is what The Successful Bookkeeper exists to close. His view: bookkeepers are the most undervalued force in small business — and every bookkeeper who builds a real business changes two families: theirs, and their clients'.

In fact, she initially turned the opportunity down. But after repeated conversations—and a few unexpected changes in her life—she recognized the opportunity as something she was meant to pursue.Sometimes the right opportunity finds you before you're looking for it.The discussion then shifts toward leadership.Managing an association means balancing many personalities, competing priorities, and differing opinions. Celeste explains that one of her greatest leadership tools isn't persuasion—it's communication.By clearly explaining the "why" behind decisions and taking time to understand the people she serves, she's built trust with members and board leaders alike. Her background in education continues to influence how she leads today.Teaching preschool taught her how to simplify complex ideas, communicate with clarity, and patiently help people grow—skills that translate remarkably well into executive leadership.Another key theme throughout the episode is the importance of listening.Rather than assuming she knows what members need, Celeste continually asks for feedback and looks for opportunities to improve the member experience. One example is EMDA's newly launched online connection tool, created directly from member requests. By listening first, she turned a challenge into one of the organization's newest benefits. The conversation also explores overcoming self-doubt and earning credibility as a young leader.Early in her career, Celeste often had to overcome assumptions based on her age. Instead of allowing those perceptions to define her, she focused on consistently delivering results and building trust over time. When asked about her proudest accomplishments, Celeste shares two defining moments. The first was securing a highly competitive $90,000 grant that transformed the preschool she led, creating lasting educational opportunities for students, teachers, and families. The second is her work at EMDA, where membership has grown dramatically over the past few years through stronger relationships, increased visibility, and a renewed focus on serving members well.Beyond her leadership role, Celeste is passionate about health and fitness. She operates a small gym from her barn dominium, leading strength training and HIIT classes for members of her local community. For Celeste, physical fitness isn't separate from leadership—it strengthens it.Building discipline through exercise, fueling your body well, and creating healthy routines all contribute to becoming a stronger, more resilient leader.Throughout the conversation, one message remains clear:Great leadership isn't built through flashy moments. It's built through consistency, communication, and genuinely caring about the people you're called to serve.Listen if you are:Leading an association or member-based organizationLooking to strengthen relationships with customers or membersBuilding trust through communicationNavigating leadership early in your careerPassionate about personal growth, health, and leadershipLooking for practical ways to serve people more intentionallyLeadership isn't about having all the answers. It's about consistently showing up, listening well, communicating clearly, and making people feel valued every single day.

What if the next level of your life isn't asking you to do more, but to learn how to be?In this month's Guidance Transmission, we're exploring the deeper art of being — being available, being still, being open, being present, being receptive, being certain, and being in alignment. So much of manifestation and personal growth is focused on action: What should I do? What should I change? What should I create? But there is another level of creation that begins before the action — the energetic and conscious state from which you are living. This transmission invites you to slow down and become aware of how you are showing up for your own life. Are you available for what you say you desire? Are you still enough to hear your intuition? Are you open enough to receive something different than what you expected? Are you present enough to recognize what is already unfolding? You'll receive guidance around: Being available for greater possibilities Finding power in stillness Remaining open when you don't know the “how” Becoming more present in your life Expanding your capacity to receive Cultivating inner certainty Moving from force into alignment This is not about becoming someone you are not. It is about becoming more deeply connected to who you are and allowing your choices, energy, and consciousness to come into alignment with the life you are creating.Sometimes creation isn't about another action.Sometimes it's about becoming still enough, open enough, and available enough to allow what is already moving toward you to enter. This month, the invitation is simple:Be. Listen. Receive. Align. And allow your next chapter to unfold from a deeper place of consciousness.Few Things to Support You On Your Journey

I am a very active person. I am someone who prefers constant movement. I like to be productive throughout my day. I've always felt down time needed to be earned. But what is it really? Am I running away from something? A repressed memory? Uncomfortable thoughts? Demons? Accountability?I Would never know if I don't take the time to sit alone with my thoughts and reflect, face discomfort and overcome fears. Reflecting, sitting in your thoughts and feeling them is very scary. That's why we numb ourselves day in and day out. But it's the only way to move forward in life. It's the only way to truly level up. Forgive yourself for your past mistakes and other's will forgive you. Align your subconscious thoughts with your conscious thoughts. Face your demons. Personal coaching, deliverance, e-courses, training for ministry, and mentorships! https://www.kathydegrawministries.org/training/# God has given you a voice, authority and the spiritual right to speak into your circumstances. Prayer is not only silent meditation or inward agreement. There are moments when you must open your mouth, release faith and audibly partner with heaven. Jesus rebuked fevers, spoke to storms, commanded demons to leave and called Lazarus out of the tomb. He modeled what it looks like to pray with confidence, power and authority. Your voice is a spiritual instrument that can bind the enemy, release agreement with heaven and bring order into the spiritual realm. Many believers pray one thing but speak negativity afterward. Your words must stop fighting your prayers. Align your faith, thoughts and declarations so you are not canceling what you just released. It is time to overcome passivity, complacency and spiritual stagnation. Train yourself to pray out loud, declare God's Word and wield the authority Jesus gave you. You have more authority over your situation than you realize. Rise, speak and fight in faith. Your voice matters, your prayers matter and heaven responds when you pray according to God's will. #AudiblePrayer #PrayerAuthority #ChristianSpiritualWarfare #PowerOfDeclaration #IdentityInChrist **Connect with Us** - Website: https://www.kathydegrawministries.org/ - Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/kathydegraw/ - Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/kathydegraw/ Podcast - Subscribe to our YouTube channel and listen to Kathy's Podcast called Prophetic Spiritual Warfare, or on Spotify at https://open.spotify.com/show/3mYPPkP28xqcTzdeoucJZu or Apple podcasts at https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/prophetic-spiritual-warfare/id1474710499 **Recommended Resources:** - Receive a free prayer pdf on Python at https://www.kathydegrawministries.org/python/- Receive a free prayer pdf on Anointing Oil at https://www.kathydegrawministries.org/anointingoil/ - Kathy's training, mentoring and e-courses on Spiritual Warfare, Deliverance and the Prophetic: https://training.kathydegrawministries.org/ - Healed At Last ~ Overcome Sickness and Receive your Physical Healing: https://www.kathydegrawministries.org/healed-at-last/ - Mind Battles – Root Out Mental Triggers to Release Peace!: https://www.kathydegrawministries.org/product/mind-battles-pre-order-available-january-2023/ -Kathy has several books available on Amazon or kathydegrawministries.org **Support Kathy DeGraw Ministries:** - Give a one-time love offering or consider partnering with us for $15, $35, $75 or any amount! Host Jeff returns with a solo, podcast-style episode that blends biblical vision, geopolitical observation, and practical warnings. He opens by addressing the viral attention around August 12, 2026 — a day of a solar eclipse, planetary alignment, and a meteor shower — and explains his view on astronomy vs. astrology, how celestial signs might signal spiritual moves, and why we should remain watchful but sober in our expectations. The episode moves into the global financial picture: recent U.S.-Japan debt actions, central banks hoarding gold and silver, China's role in moving gold toward a physical-asset model, and the risk of a digital currency-led “ledger” that could erode privacy and freedom. Jeff offers big-picture context (not personal financial advice) on why these shifts may point toward a new financial system being prepared and what that might mean for personal sovereignty. Jeff also discusses his course, Decoding the Power of Three, including a personal vision connected to the biblical firmament and the three heavens — a symbolic picture of the veil being removed and God's kingdom coming down. He explains how that theology ties into current events and spiritual preparation. Turning to cultural symptoms of the age, Jeff reacts to a disturbing Perez Hilton incident and frames it as part of a broader uptick in demonic activity and mass activation. He describes the “harvest” as a separation of wheat and chaff, warns about spiritual deceptions, and underscores the need for faith, readiness, and discernment. Previewing a short new video series, Jeff outlines five brief episodes that explore the Noahide laws, Jewish mysticism, the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR), Kabbalah, the Seven Mountain Mandate, Joel's Army, and related movements. He argues that some NAR leaders are using Kabbalah-based techniques that function like magic over audiences and that these currents will contribute to a global push against the remnant—covering themes such as martyrdom of the saints and how different religious systems may converge against believers. Episode logistics and extras: Jeff is solo on this episode (Tim Cohen may appear in a later show), he announces a short premiere schedule for the new series (planning a 4:00 PM ET debut for the first short episode), and he shares offers and resources mentioned in the show: the Decoding the Power of Three course with coupon code SUMMER50 (valid through August 31), affiliate pet products (Mush Puppies and InForce via RORPetClub247.com), and a weekly prayer meeting on Telegram Wednesday at 7:30 PM ET. Have you ever found yourself looking at someone else's business, podcast, social media or success and wondering if you should be doing what they're doing? Comparison doesn't always show up as jealousy. Sometimes it shows up as self-abandonment. In this episode, we explore how easy it is to disconnect from our own inner knowing when we begin chasing someone else's path. I share a personal story about when I was tempted to replicate someone else's success and how it led me to realizing that you can never borrow alignment. This conversation is an invitation to stop outsourcing your decisions, reconnect with your own inner wisdom, and trust the unique path that's unfolding for you. We dive into: Why comparison is often an invitation to return to yourself. The difference between inspiration and imitation. How trust is build one aligned decision at a time. Why Human Design can help you understand your unique way of leading, creating and making aligned decisions. Soul Reflection: Where have a been looking outside of myself for answers? Most apparel companies don't have a demand problem. They have a lead time problem. In this episode of Supply Chain Now, hosts Scott W. Luton and Scot Case welcome Maithili Shenoy, Founder and CEO of La Naia Collective, for a frank, frameworks-forward look at why the global apparel operating model is cracking under its own weight and what it would actually take to rebuild it. From the Multifiber Agreement's unraveling in 2005 to the speed at which TikTok now dictates what sells, Maithili draws a clear line between the world the industry was built for and the one it's operating in today. She breaks down why long lead times convert forecast error into stranded inventory, how the markdown machine erodes billions in gross margin dollars annually, and why the financial damage runs deeper than most balance sheets reveal. Scot adds a sustainability lens that sharpens the conversation, connecting the landfills of Ghana's Kantamanto Market to the same structural misalignments driving poor financial returns. The conversation builds into Maithili's 4S architecture: Strategize, Segment, Structure, Sustain, and the regenerative loop that ties them together. Real-world examples ground every layer: Inditex running 57.8% gross margins with inventory costs half the industry average, Abercrombie & Fitch going from 1% to 15% operating margins by abandoning markdown dependency, and why companies still anchored to gross margin rate alone are running out of runway. If you're trying to understand why so many smart people keep making decisions that produce irrational collective outcomes and what a better model actually looks like, this conversation earns its time. Human Design can tell you what your life purpose is. It cannot make you willing to claim it. Most people expect the search for their purpose to end in relief. What tends to happen is stranger. The closer you get to the thing you're actually here for, the more reasons you find to step back from it. You downloaded the chart. You've read everything you can find about your incarnation cross. And the message is still sitting there, unsent. In this episode, Nicole names that pattern and makes the case that the fear showing up right now is telling you something completely different from what you think it's telling you. She gets into why a calling this size was never going to feel manageable, what growing into it actually costs while it's happening, and why Human Design hands you a process instead of an answer. She also marks the show's 500th episode, and says what 500 conversations built in her that she wasn't expecting. This one lands the same week as a date she's been counting toward for two years. Hey friends, Chase here. Every summer, I revisit conversations from the archive that have stood the test of time. Not because I'm nostalgic, but because the best ideas don't expire. They deepen. This is another installment of Summer School—episodes I personally went back to this year when I was stuck. This one with Mel Robbins is near the top of that list. At 41, Mel was unemployed, drowning in debt, and so overwhelmed she could barely get out of bed. Then she discovered something that sounds almost too simple to take seriously: the 5-Second Rule. Count backwards—5-4-3-2-1—and move before your brain talks you out of it. This conversation was recorded roughly eight years ago, well before Mel hit the stratospheric pace the world knows her for now. A mutual friend introduced us. We sat down in the CreativeLive studios. She taught a barnstormer of a class. And the episode stuck with me—because when doubt, delay, and inertia show up, this is the kind of hardcore, no-B.S. toolkit that actually helps you move. Mel calls herself the fucked-up friend who figured some things out and got wise. She doesn't want you to make the same mistakes. She's done the hard work on habit, confidence, self-doubt, and how anxiety becomes a habit that robs you of joy, money, connection, and power. You're one decision away from a totally different life. Summer School: Mel Robbins on Anxiety, Action, and the 5-Second Rule Mel's path wasn't linear. Temp job. Law school by inertia. Public defender in Manhattan. A law firm she hated. Postpartum depression. A decision at her own baby shower that she would never again answer "What do you do?" with "I'm a lawyer." Then radio, media, CNN, speaking—and a TED Talk that accidentally let the 5-Second Rule slip out as an afterthought. She didn't invent the rule as a brand strategy. She invented it in 2008 to beat the snooze button when her life was falling apart: failing restaurant business, financial strain, marriage on the ropes, kids missing the bus, no confidence left in the tank. What makes this episode Summer School material is how practical it is. Mel doesn't just diagnose stuckness. She hands you a tool for the five-second windows where hesitation usually wins—and then she zooms out to the deeper question: action only matters if you know what you want. Passion, she says, is another word for energy. Follow what energizes and expands you. Master the little stuff first, or you'll never answer the big stuff. If you've ever known exactly what to do and still couldn't make yourself do it, this conversation is for you. What You'll Hear in This Episode Why Mel's whole life felt like "one gigantic mistake" she then scrambled—using anxiety—to fix How high tolerance for "suckiness" keeps us trapped until a shock finally forces change An unflinching conversation about anxiety and panic, self-monitoring, and getting help when you need it Why "you don't have to think the way you think"—and how worry becomes a habit that costs you money, health, and relationships The 5-Second Rule explained: how counting backwards interrupts habit loops and kicks the prefrontal cortex online How one decision (just getting out of bed) can change how you see yourself—and start momentum that rebuilds a life Why knowledge can be a trap if you never acquire the tools to make yourself act Listening to your gut—including Mel's decision to keep audio rights when she self-published How to define what you want by tracking what energizes vs. depletes you Why mastering the little stuff is the only path to the big stuff—and why there's enough success for everybody The 5-Second Rule (and Why It Works) Mel is blunt: the rule sounds profoundly stupid. That's why it took people a while to take it seriously. Here's the move. The moment you catch yourself hesitating, doubting, worrying, chickening out, shrinking, or shutting up—count backwards: 5-4-3-2-1. Then move. Counting backwards interrupts habit loops encoded in the more automatic parts of the brain and lights up the prefrontal cortex—the part involved in focus, courage, strategic thinking, and learning new behavior. Counting up doesn't work the same way; you can keep going forever. After one, your mind is socialized to go. She discovered it by accident trying to stop hitting snooze. Eight years later (at the time of this recording), she still used it every morning to get out of bed—and for exercise, tough conversations, client scope creep, drinking urges, tone of voice, middle-of-the-night bathroom trips, negotiations, everything. The deeper point: your life happens in five-second windows. In five seconds you can control what you think, decide what you'll do, and change something that then changes everything. And you're often one decision away from a different life—not because that one decision is magic, but because action changes how you see yourself. Get up three mornings in a row when you usually don't, and you're no longer only the person who sleeps in. You're someone who can keep a promise to yourself. That identity shift compounds. Mel's clearest line on the real problem: most people aren't missing strategy. They're missing the action push. You know how to lose the weight, grow the business, save the marriage, make the call. You can't make yourself do it. The 5-Second Rule is a starting ritual for becoming that person for yourself—your own pushy best friend. What Do You Actually Want? Tools without direction become busywork. Mel keeps returning to this: using 5-4-3-2-1 for its own sake isn't enough if you don't know what you're aligning toward. The common mistake: we fixate on some huge person, place, or thing—a unicorn future that's supposed to rescue us from our current misery. The gap between here and there makes us feel more lost. Her emerging tool (she was still researching it then): treat passion as energy. In any situation, notice within five seconds—does this person, project, or choice energize me or deplete me? Expand me or shrink me? That body wisdom is the map. Hard things can still energize you. Easy things can deplete you. Money comes second. The question is: if it depletes you, how do you move it or say no? If it energizes you, how do you do more of it? Mel noticed even her exploding speaking career started depleting her on travel mornings—while meeting people and answering emails energized her. So she recalibrated toward what expanded her. One five-second alignment at a time, working with your wiring instead of against it. Her hard truth: if you can't master the little stuff—getting up, exercising, curbing the habit, making the scary call—you will never answer the big stuff of who you are and how to listen to yourself. Achievement without fulfillment is just checking boxes forever. And once you're in your lane—energized, expanded—you have capacity to be generous. There's enough success and happiness for everybody. Cheer for other people. Stay calibrated against your own energy map when the internet keeps showing you everyone else's game. Timecodes So You Can Jump Around 00:00 – Welcome and why this episode is part of Summer School 03:27 – Mel joins; early career, inertia, and a high tolerance for suckiness 13:54 – Postpartum depression, quitting law, and making a hard decision 18:00+ – Anxiety, panic, self-monitoring, and getting help when you need it 31:37 – Introducing the 5-Second Rule 38:38 – Where Mel's life was when she invented it—and how one decision changes everything 44:15 – Ego vs. values: self-publishing, bestseller lists, and keeping audio rights 51:16 – How to define what you want (and the trap of the unicorn goal) 53:47 – Passion as energy: the deplete-vs-energize decision tool 58:35 – Master the little stuff or you'll never get the big stuff 01:00:55 – Generosity, staying in your lane, and enough success for everyone 01:04:11 – Diversity in personal development, getting attacked, and pushing through fear Why This Conversation Still Matters We are drowning in information about what to do. Strategy is everywhere. Inspiration is infinite. The bottleneck is still the same: the five seconds between knowing and doing. Anxiety culture hasn't gotten quieter since this episode aired. Comparison hasn't gotten kinder. The gap between the life you want and the inertia you're in still grows when you wait to feel ready. Mel's toolkit remains useful because it's not about becoming fearless. It's about interrupting hesitation long enough to act—and then aiming that action at what actually expands you. Feel the fear. Count backwards. Move. Check your energy. Repeat. That's why I keep returning to this one when I'm stuck. Not for a pep talk. For a push. Keep Going Deeper If this conversation resonates: The 5 Second Rule by Mel Robbins Mel online: melrobbins.com Follow Mel: Instagram | X/Twitter | Facebook | Website Questions to Reflect On Where do I already know what to do—but keep failing at the action push? What five-second hesitation keeps showing up in my work, health, or relationships? Am I waiting to feel ready before I move? Where has "acquiring knowledge" become a substitute for doing the thing? On my client list, calendar, and inner circle: what energizes me vs. depletes me? What little stuff am I avoiding that is blocking the bigger answers about who I am? Where could generosity replace scarcity—cheering for others while staying in my lane? The Core Idea You don't need a new identity overnight. You need one decision, then another, in the five-second windows where your brain tries to shrink you. Mel's invitation is brutally simple: stop waiting for motivation to arrive fully formed. Interrupt the habit. Count backwards. Move. Align with what energizes you. Build confidence from evidence, not affirmations. And remember—there's enough room for everybody. If there's one lesson worth carrying forward from this Summer School session, it's this: You're one decision away from a totally different life—and that decision can start in the next five seconds.
Have you ever felt torn between competing priorities—wanting to excel at work while also being present for your family, or saying "yes" to helping everyone even when you're overwhelmed? The tension you feel may not be because your values are unclear, but because they're competing with one another. In this solo coaching episode, Mallory Erickson explores the difference between conscious-based values and fear-based values, and why understanding that distinction can transform the way you make decisions. She explains why it's impossible to express all of your core values all the time, and how consciously choosing which value to prioritize in a given moment can reduce guilt, overwhelm, and decision paralysis. Mallory also introduces a powerful coaching exercise that helps uncover whether a value is truly yours or if it's being driven by fear, people-pleasing, or external expectations. Through practical examples and thoughtful reflection, she invites listeners to examine the beliefs underneath their values so they can make more intentional choices in both fundraising and life. In this episode, you will be able to: Identify your core personal values. Understand why your values naturally compete with one another. Reduce guilt when you can't honor every value simultaneously. Recognize the difference between conscious-based and fear-based values. Identify fear-based beliefs that influence your decisions. Practice converting fear-driven values into conscious choices. Make decisions with greater clarity and intention. Build a values-based approach to fundraising and leadership. Get all the resources from today's episode here. "We should not be listening to things outside of us. Your body is telling you what you need." In this episode, Heather and Corey Colwell explore what happens when life forces you to stop long enough to hear the messages your body has been trying to communicate all along. Through a remarkable story that begins with a coyote bite at two years old and winds through years of health challenges, motherhood, overachievement, and a profound near-death experience, this conversation invites you into the space where intuition, healing, and purpose converge. At its heart, this episode is about learning to listen, not to the endless noise outside of us, but to the wisdom already living within our bodies, our souls, and the quiet nudges that keep trying to guide us back toward alignment, vitality, and a life that feels deeply alive. What to listen for: ☑️ How getting bitten by a coyote at two years old shaped her passion in later life ☑️ Busyness and constantly moving forward keep you from listening to my body ☑️ The near-death experience that helped Corey choose to be in this life "When people say fighting for your life, you have to recruit everything to get alive again. And so I fought my way back from that moment." ☑️ The importance of listening to that intuitive primal knowing when it comes up ☑️ What it feels like when your soul fully aligns with your body and human experience ☑️ Why it wasn't enough to just be alive and in bed, and what helped turn things around "I was alive, and everyone's like, 'Great, just stay in bed.' And what happened is I started to experience an intellectual and passion death because my entire why is to solve problems and innovate." ☑️ How to start answering the question of what your body actually needs to thrive ☑️ Why we try to control the outcomes in our children's lives rather than surrendering ☑️ We shouldn't be listening to things outside of us; we should be leaning in *** About Corey Colwell: Corey Colwell doesn't study problems. She solves them. She is the person you call when you're stuck — not because she'll tell you why you got there, but because she'll already see three ways out. A licensed psychotherapist (LMFT), published author, and innovation strategist, Corey has spent nearly three decades finding patterns across health, sustainability, media, education, and beyond — and building the bridges to turn those patterns into real, lasting change. Her ideas have reached millions through outlets like Good Morning America, NPR, and CNN, and her collaborators have included Whole Foods, HGTV, and the Non-GMO Project.
