If anyone builds superintelligent AI before we know how to control it, everyone dies. Nate Soares wrote the book on why that's not a metaphor. Subscribe if you want science with evidence, not speculation. Soares runs the Machine Intelligence Research Institute and co-wrote If Anyone Builds It, Everyone Dies with Eliezer Yudkowsky. The first word in that title is if. That matters. His argument is not that doom is certain. His argument is that the path we are on leads there, that the driver is asleep at the wheel, and that we still have time to wake him up. We argue for over an hour. I push on whether LLMs can ever reach superintelligence, whether GPU lock-in is a real ceiling, and what it would actually take to move his p-doom. He pushes back with one clean point: by the time an AI can rediscover general relativity from pre-1911 data the way Einstein did, we will have almost no time left. You don't wait for that goalpost. What you'll hear: Why the bus-racing-toward-a-cliff analogy depends entirely on whether the driver is asleep or awake Whether LLM lock-in is a prison or a temporary inefficiency What the AI that broke out of its virtual machine to solve a hacking problem tells us Why GPT-4o encouraging a teenager toward suicide is not a malice problem but a training problem The difference between an AI doing the right thing too well and an AI that never wanted to do what you asked What Soares actually thinks about aliens, Dyson spheres, and why we should not see stars going out The first word in the title is if. In this episode, CJ Miller explores how the overwhelming flood of information in today's world is calling us into a new stage of human development: The Age of Listening.Drawing from Paul Baker's Integration of Abilities, CJ traces the evolution of human communication—from the Storytelling Age, to the Gutenberg Age of books and external authority, to today's Information Age, where knowledge is abundant but discernment has become essential.Rather than simply collecting more information, CJ suggests that our greatest challenge is learning to listen intentionally. True listening is not merely intellectual. It includes the wisdom of the body, the heart, intuition, feeling, and conscious awareness.Using his creative philosophy of Align. Listen. Create., CJ explains that creativity—and life itself—begins by first aligning with the greater field of Creative Intelligence. Instead of constantly telling life what we want, he invites us to become quiet enough to hear what life may be asking of us.The conversation explores:Why information alone no longer leads to wisdom. How intentional attention can transform the way we experience the world. The difference between listening and defending our beliefs. Why intuition, feeling, and embodied awareness deserve a place alongside reason. How creativity becomes a practice of participating with life rather than controlling it.Ultimately, this episode is an invitation to move beyond reacting to the endless noise around us and into a more grounded, compassionate way of living—one where we align, listen deeply, and create from the intelligence already flowing through us."The quieter you become, the more you are able to hear." — RumiWant to learn more about CJ Miller? In this episode, I continue my series exploring what Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews teach us about domestic abuse and the impact on children. This time, I'm discussing the research report Rethinking Domestic Abuse in Child Protection: Responding Differently and some of the important questions it raises about how we respond to families experiencing domestic abuse. In this episode I discuss: Why the research argues that child protection responses often focus too heavily on the non-abusing parent, while those causing harm receive comparatively little meaningful engagement. How taking a whole-family and intersectional approach can help practitioners better understand the complex realities families face, including poverty, trauma, discrimination, mental ill-health and social isolation. Why safeguarding professionals need to look beyond individual incidents and recognise the cumulative patterns of harm that emerge across agencies over time. The importance of building trust and relationships with families while maintaining professional curiosity and a clear focus on reducing risk. Why prevention matters, and how earlier intervention and stronger relationships could help reduce harm before families reach crisis point. Are you interested in becoming an independent reviewer? Why is Dr Tif Qureshi doing Blood Tests for his Patients? Should YOU? – PDP275

Your patient brushes well, avoids sweets — and still keeps getting decay. What if the answer isn't in their mouth at all? What if two inexpensive finger-prick tests told you more about a patient's gum disease and implant prognosis than anything on the radiograph? And here's the uncomfortable one: if the science is this clear, is not checking starting to look like a medico-legal risk? Especially for imlpant surgery! This is a conversation with Dr Tif Qureshi — the dentist who changed how the profession thinks about the lifelong patient, the envelope of function, and Align, Bleach, Bond. He's gone down a new rabbit hole: metabolic health. In general practice he's now doing blood tests — HbA1c and vitamin D — and making the case that the mouth isn't connected to the body, it is the body. This isn't about becoming a “biological dentist” (as you'll hear, Tif is refreshingly blunt about the wilder end of that world). It's about respecting the biology, screening sensibly, and helping patients where we're genuinely placed to help. https://youtu.be/mt1MXLFCTp0 Watch PDP275 on YouTube Protrusive Dental Pearl: Test Yourself First Before you even think about introducing blood tests for your patients, ask whether you're checking your own biomarkers at a sensible interval. The deepest way to understand this topic is to learn it on yourself and your family first — run your own HbA1c, vitamin D, iron, and liver and kidney markers, and see what the data tells you. Start quarterly, like hygienist visits, then stretch to six-monthly or annual once things look good. Getting invested in your own numbers is what makes better food and lifestyle choices actually stick — and it's the honest starting point for ever offering this to a patient. What You'll Take From This Episode The metabolic lens — why one disordered glucose-and-insulin system sits under so much chronic and dental disease, and why dentistry is well placed to act on it. Sugar, redefined — why patients who avoid sweets still get decay, and how frequency of starchy carbs drives the problem. The two biomarkers that matter most — what HbA1c and vitamin D each tell you about caries, perio and healing. How to run it in practice — finger-prick logistics, what to test, and how to raise it on the medical history form. The medico-legal case — why documenting these markers can protect you before implant, graft and perio work. Send us Fan MailWhy do nonprofits lose momentum after creating an inspiring vision or strategic plan? Doug Paul, Founder and CEO of Impact Co., explains how nonprofit operational systems, leadership clarity, performance measures, and consistent workplace rhythms turn ambition into measurable results. After working with approximately 1,300 nonprofit organizations, Doug and his colleagues studied the organizations that were consistently succeeding. They identified eight connected areas that distinguished them: vision, strategy, development, metrics, culture, people, systems, and rhythms. The central lesson is direct: “Nonprofits don't rise to the level of their vision. They fall to the level of their systems.”Doug explains why organizations can have memorable mission statements and well-designed strategic plans yet still miss deadlines, struggle with accountability, operate reactively, and fail to follow through. These are not always motivation problems. Often, they are evidence of systems that unintentionally produce last-minute scrambles and workplace frustration. The conversation also examines why business frameworks cannot simply be dropped into nonprofit organizations without adaptation. Systems designed primarily to create profit may not fully support organizations whose ultimate outcome is mission impact.Doug outlines how successful nonprofits create an attainable 3 to 5 year vision, distinguish strategy from goals, build a modern revenue playbook, track both lead and lag measures, align donors and stakeholders, and document repeatable processes. He also shares that organizations intentional about culture-building can experience a 43% increase in productivity!!Strong systems do not remove the human element. They help people succeed. As Doug explains, “I just don't think heart and passion can bridge that gap.”This episode offers nonprofit executives, managers, fundraisers, and board members a clearer way to diagnose stalled momentum—and begin releasing the organizational brakes.Key Takeaways:Define an attainable three-to-five-year vision rather than relying only on a distant aspirational goal.Separate strategy from goals and connect strategy to a specific winning action plan.Track lead measures early enough to influence lagging organizational results.Treat workplace culture as a measurable leadership discipline, not an accidental outcome.Align staff, donors, board members, executives, and community stakeholders around one direction.Build documented processes and calendar rhythms that repeatedly produce mission outcomes.00:00:00 Why Nonprofits Lose Momentum00:00:46 Building Built for Impact Through Collaboration00:02:17 The Gap Between Mission, Operations, and Results00:04:20 When Constant Firefighting Becomes the System00:05:31 Why Business Frameworks May Fail Nonprofits00:07:15 Passion Cannot Replace Operational Capacity00:10:11 Lessons From 1,300 Nonprofit Organizations00:11:27 Eight Drivers of Nonprofit Success00:12:27 Lead Measures, Lag Measures, and Better Decisions00:13:27 Culture Building and the 43% Productivity Increase00:15:36 Aligning People, Processes, and Stakeholders00:17:31 Using Organizational Rhythms to Drive Impact00:18:44 Creating a Nonprofit Performance Flywheel00:20:17 Building an Organizational Operating System00:21:52 Why Leadership Clarity Is a Survival Skill00:24:17 Making Tough Decisions Without Leading Alone00:25:57 Moving From Command-and-Control to CollaborationFind us Live daily on YouTube!Find us  Live daily on LinkedIn!Find us Live daily on X: @Nonprofit_ShowOur national co-hosts and amazing guests discuss management, money and missions of nonprofits!  12:30pm ET   11:30am CT  10:30am MT  9:30am PTSend us your ideas for Show Guests or Topics: HelpDesk@AmericanNonprofitAcademy.comVisit us on the web:The Nonprofit Show

What if falling in love with your next level was the thing that changed everything? In this episode, I teach one of the most powerful reframes you will ever come across when it comes to going after your next level because most of us have been taught that reaching our vision is about focusing harder, taking more action, and grinding towards what we want. And while that is part of the picture - it is not the whole picture. When you fall in love with someone, you do not have to remind yourself to think about them. You cannot get them off your mind. And when you bring that same quality of energy, that warmth, that certainty, that natural and easeful orientation, to your next level, your vision, the version of you on the other side everything shifts.Because the next level that is meant for you is the love child of your conscious and subconscious mind working together. And in this episode, I show you exactly what it takes to get both minds in the room, moving in the same direction, towards the same beloved.Topics covered on Why The Law Of Attraction Isn't Working:Why focusing on your vision isn't enough the two projections running simultaneously in your conscious and unconscious mindWhy obsessive focus can be counterproductive and the specific suggestion your unconscious mind is receiving when you forcing your vision"Guess what? You don't trust me" what your unconscious mind is really hearing when you force the focusWhat actually happens when the underlying belief clears and why the next level becomes a walk in the parkHow to fall in love with your next level, your vision, and the version of you on the other sideThe love child of your conscious and unconscious mind - what aligned manifestation actually looks and feels like.Connect with Rebecca Haydon:Apply to work with meThe Subconscious MembershipCome say hi on Instagram | Facebook | YouTube

Burnout doesn't have to be the end of the story. In this concluding episode of our three-part burnout series, Andy Huckaba and Teresa Schwab explore what recovery actually looks like after burnout has been recognized. While the first two episodes focused on understanding burnout and the role leaders and organizations play in creating healthy or unhealthy systems, this conversation shifts toward hope, healing, and sustainable leadership.Recovery is rarely a single decision or quick fix. It is a journey that begins with awareness, reflection, and the courage to make intentional choices. The conversation explores reconnecting with purpose, examining personal values, establishing healthier boundaries, seeking support through coaching and trusted relationships, and recognizing when a change in environment may be necessary. The discussion also examines how managers and organizations can create cultures where people recover, thrive, and perform at their best without sacrificing their well-being.Five Action Steps for Individuals• Increase your awareness of the physical, emotional, and behavioral signs of burnout.• Pause and reflect to reconnect with your purpose, values, and direction.• Establish healthier boundaries to protect your time and energy.• Seek support through coaching, mentors, trusted colleagues, or counselors.• Be willing to make courageous changes when your work consistently conflicts with your values.Five Action Steps for Organizations• Recognize burnout as an organizational responsibility, not just an individual one.• Support meaningful recovery by encouraging true time away from work.• Create psychological safety where people can speak openly about burnout.• Align work with organizational purpose and meaningful contribution.• Provide coaching, development, and ongoing support—not just wellness programs.Five Action Steps for Managers• Lead with curiosity and compassion when employees are struggling.• Ask, 'What can I do to support you right now?'• Protect employees' recovery by respecting boundaries and time away.• Help reprioritize work so people can focus on what matters most.• Model healthy leadership through sustainable work habits and boundaries.Burnout SeriesEpisode 31 – Understanding Burnout: Recognizing the Warning Signs Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/episode/53ipwQBC7034U1sZvis8rQ?si=RVI-Yxp0RkqYXhCzO4RHRw Episode 32 – Building Resilient Systems and Organizations: The Leader's Role in Preventing Burnout Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/episode/6jkDxNVCR6vkxpwZZuTvjO?si=mC32bDO4QASLlShypx0tQwOther Growth Beyond Boundaries Episodes You May Enjoy• Episode 23 – Finding Your Compass: Living and Leading Through Your Values• Episode 24 – The Power of Coaching Conversations• Episode 27 – Leading Through Uncertainty• Episode 28 – Navigating Transitions and Growth• Episode 29 – Mastering Delegation• Episode 30 – Intentional Leadership: The Power of the PauseLearn MoreLearn more at #AdAstraCoachAllianceTag us @AdAstraCoachAlliance and share your thoughts or takeaways from this episode!Hashtags#GrowthBeyondBoundaries #AdAstraCoachAlliance #Burnout #BurnoutRecovery #Leadership #ExecutiveCoaching #LeadershipDevelopment #Resilience #HealthyLeadership #OrganizationalCulture #PsychologicalSafety #WorkplaceWellbeing #Coaching #PersonalGrowth #PurposeDrivenLeadership #SustainableLeadershipMusic CreditsMusic from #Uppbeat (free for Creators!)License code: 1AF9FYKW2TNQNGG1

She Told Her Director "Your Actions Don't Support That Opinion." He Apologized. Harley-Davidson's Ashwini on Self-Advocacy, Disrespect, and Owning Your Career She had a new director who made every interaction feel disrespectful — no matter the topic, no matter how well she was performing. It wasn't the work. It was the treatment. She hit her limit, went to her manager, and said: "There are only two paths. I have a crucial conversation with the director, or we go different directions." The meeting was scheduled. She opened by asking the director directly what he thought of her work. He praised her for two minutes. Then she said: "Your actions don't support that opinion. I don't feel respected when we interact. I don't feel wanted in this department." He was taken aback. He apologized. They reset. She went into that meeting prepared to lose her job if she had to — and she walked out with a relationship she could actually work in. Ashwini holds a bachelor's and master's in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan. She spent over 20 years in automotive before moving to the motorcycle industry, where she is now Head of Motorcycle Development Strategy and Operations at Harley-Davidson Motor Company — one of the most male-dominated sectors in manufacturing. She is also President of the Automotive Women's Alliance Foundation (AWAF). And she will be the first to tell you she has never had a long-term sponsor. In this episode, she is completely direct about what has actually driven her career forward. You'll learn: Why she spent the first decade of her career with her head down doing great work, why it was necessary but not sufficient, and the moment she realized nobody outside her immediate area knew she had the appetite or ability to grow beyond it. Why she believes there is only one completely reliable advocate you will ever have, why most women are better at being advocates for others than for themselves, and how she built that muscle precisely because she didn't have a long-term sponsor. The full story of the disrespectful director: how she identified the problem, how she structured the conversation, why she led with "what do you think of my work?" before stating her case, and why going in prepared to lose her job is what gave her the confidence to say what needed to be said. The mentee who called her on a weekend in tears saying "I feel stupid." How Ashwini diagnosed the real problem (disrespect, not technical gaps), reached into her network to move the mentee to a different department, and how the same HR contact she helped later reached out to recommend her for a strategy role — a direct return on giving she never could have predicted. Why she describes her sponsors as "situational" rather than long-term, what that means in practice, and why she thinks the traditional sponsor model is harder to find than people admit. How she uses her role as AWAF president — where she manages an entire P&L — as a judgment-free environment to build skills that corporate rarely hands to women: financial leadership, public speaking, board-level decision making. The four A's feedback framework she uses with her leadership team: Appreciate, Assess, Action, Align — and how it prevents feedback from crossing into personal attack territory. Why she believes assertiveness and humility come from the same foundation, not opposing ones — and how saying "I don't know, and here's my plan to close that gap" has enabled her to pivot more successfully than projecting false confidence ever could. About Ashwini: Head of Motorcycle Development Strategy and Operations at Harley-Davidson Motor Company and President of the Automotive Women's Alliance Foundation (AWAF). She holds a BS and MS in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan and has spent over two decades in engineering and strategy leadership across automotive and motorcycle industries.

There is a word, duḥkha, which is generally translated as misery, but what it really means is to be out of alignment. Duh- kha, 'kha' means space. We say in California, "I'm in a bad space, man." Or sukha means I'm in a good space. But what it refers to is being out of alignment and then feeling friction because of that. That's simple enough, right? For instance, if an axle is bent and it's not aligned properly with whatever it goes into—(don't ask me, because I'm not a mechanic)— sooner or later there'll be friction, there'll be heat, there'll be a fire, there'll be extra expenses and there'll be insurance claims where the deductible is so high that you might as well not even make a claim anyway. What to speak of, it could cause an accident, you could even die from being out of alignment. And so, there is a way in which the idea of the life of Kṛṣṇa consciousness—of practicing bhakti-yoga—is to come into alignment with our spiritual purpose in life. That solves the problem; it really does. You can't solve it any other way, because any adjustment in the material world ultimately does not solve the main problem, which is that we have a nature which is defined in several ways. But I will mention three of them, because they will be instantly recognizable by you, and there are ways in which you may instantly feel aligned with Kṛṣṇa. The first one is... Dave Garrison believes that the greatest competitive advantage is not technology, capital, or even strategy—it is human commitment. His book, The Buy-In Advantage, demonstrates that extraordinary organizations are built when people don't merely comply with a vision—they own it.While many executives focus on directing people, Garrison teaches leaders to create environments where employees become co-authors of success. Vision to Lead Garrison's vision is simple but transformational: People support what they help create. Instead of asking, "How do I get people to follow me?" he asks, "How do I build an organization where everyone becomes a leader?" That shift creates cultures where innovation, accountability, and trust flourish. Mission to Make a Difference Throughout his executive career and advisory work, Garrison has focused on helping organizations:Build cultures of ownership rather than compliance.Replace fear with trust.Develop leaders at every level.Align purpose with performance.Create organizations where people actually enjoy coming to work. His mission extends beyond increasing profits. He seeks to improve people's daily work lives by helping them experience meaning, contribution, and shared success. Ecosystem Builder Great leaders don't simply create followers—they create ecosystems where others succeed. Garrison's influence has spread through:CEOs who adopt collaborative leadership practices.Executive teams that learn to make better decisions together.Organizations that improve employee engagement.Leadership communities that multiply his ideas through mentoring and teaching. His impact grows exponentially because every leader he equips influences hundreds—or thousands—of others. Through the Lens of Truly Significant Dave Garrison embodies several principles of true significance:Humility over ego — Leadership is about serving the team rather than elevating oneself.Purpose over position — Influence comes from earning trust, not exercising authority.Contribution over control — Success is measured by how many leaders you develop.Legacy over quarterly results — Culture outlives strategy. His Side Quest is reclaiming the human side of leadership. Rather than viewing leadership as command and control, he has dedicated his career to helping leaders discover that their highest calling is creating workplaces where people feel valued, heard, and empowered. That pursuit has become far more than management consulting—it has become a movement toward more meaningful organizations. Why does Dave Garrison matter today In an era marked by burnout, disengagement, and rapid technological change, Garrison's message is especially timely:Organizations will still rise or fall based on whether people choose to bring their hearts, creativity, and commitment to the mission. Dave reminds us that the most enduring organizations are built not by brilliant strategies alone, but by leaders who inspire genuine buy-in.A Truly Significant takeaway: "Success happens when people work for you. Significance happens when people believe with you."Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/success-made-to-last-legends--4302039/support.

Money can be the silent partner in every relationship—often creating tension, stress, and confusion that can easily escalate into conflict. Beneath the numbers, every dollar spent or saved carries deeper questions about happiness, security, and the life we're working so hard to build together. How can couples bridge the gap between financial security and true personal fulfillment, especially when their instincts and money habits seem worlds apart? In this episode, listeners are guided through the core foundations of financial well-being and shown how to transform money conversations from battlegrounds into opportunities for connection. The discussion offers practical strategies for navigating differing money personalities, building trust and transparency, and creating shared goals. Listeners will learn why understanding the "why" behind spending habits matters as much as the "how" of budgeting, and how aligning values can lead to both financial security and genuine happiness in a partnership. Motherhood changes everything—including your marriage. In this first episode of my summor of mentorship series, I'm sharing the conversation I wish someone had invited me into years ago. If we were sitting across from each other with a cup of coffee, these are the things I'd want every mom to know.Parenting is one of the greatest blessings, but it can also become one of the biggest stress tests on a marriage. The shift from dating and dreaming together to managing schedules, diapers, sports, meals, and endless logistics can leave even the healthiest couples feeling disconnected. The good news? You're not alone, and your marriage doesn't have to become another casualty of the busy parenting years. In this episode, we talk about: Why parenting often creates tension in marriage—and why that's completely normal. How different parenting styles can actually become one of your family's greatest strengths. The danger of keeping score and how resentment quietly grows. Practical communication habits that help couples stay connected. A simple weekly marriage check-in you can start this Sunday. The power of praying together, especially when parenting feels overwhelming. How small daily habits shape a strong marriage over time. One truth I hope you'll remember this week:Your parenting differences don't have to divide you. They can become one of your greatest strengths when you choose to work as a team.God never intended for us to navigate marriage and motherhood alone. The Holy Spirit is our Helper—the One who comes alongside us, gives us wisdom, and strengthens us for the work He's called us to do. When we bring our parenting struggles to Him first, we make room for His peace, wisdom, and perspective.Connect with Dr. Kim Kimberling:  Website: Awesome Marriage — Marriage, Relationships Instagram: Christian Marriage | Help & Education (@awesome_marriage) Facebook: Awesome Marriage Links Mentioned:  Don't Mom Alone: By Heather MacFadyen [book]Related Episodes: How to Align with Your Spouse in Parenting :: Dr. Kim Kimberling [Ep 491] Self-Differentiation and Why it Matters :: Nancy Houston [Ep 335] Talking, Teens, and Twenty-four Years :: Bruce + Heather [Ep 399] Featured Sponsors:  Honeylove: Treat yourself to the most advanced bras and shapewear on the market. BOSS Business of Surgery Series

Narrative Summary Surgeons are trained to endure, perform, and prove — but nobody ever teaches them to negotiate. In this episode, Amy pulls back the curtain on a live Boss Surgeons coaching call to teach the framework she calls “lion taming”: a way to hold your ground with the difficult partner, the dismissive colleague, or the patient who's testing you, without becoming someone you're not. The core insight is a reframe. The people who intimidate you — the “lions” — aren't attacking out of strength. Their “roar” is their own stress response. Amy uses the classic tale of Androcles and the Lion to show what happens when you address someone's pain instead of their behavior, then breaks the shift down into a three-step method: Anchor (get grounded in yourself), Align (understand where they're headed and get in step with it), and Ask (make a clear, direct request from a place of safety, not apology). She backs it up with Heather's story — a surgeon who used this approach to resolve a toxic work relationship in her own head before she ever left the job, then walked into her next role as a different, more grounded version of herself. The episode closes with an invitation into Boss Surgeons, the year-long group where this framework gets practiced live, and a lower-commitment first step for anyone who isn't ready to decide yet. Detailed Episode Notes The Skill Gap, Not a Personal Failure Amy opens by naming the real problem: surgeons were trained to be employees — to suppress what they want, do what they're told, and win through overworking or proving themselves. Negotiation was never part of the curriculum. What feels like a confidence problem is actually a skills gap, and skills can be learned. Who Are the “Lions”? A “lion” is anyone in front of you who could cause harm — a more experienced colleague, a competitor, a patient, someone with a differing opinion. Amy makes the point that this is functionally everyone, which is exactly why the skill matters. The goal isn't to eliminate lions. It's to learn to move through a room full of them without losing yourself. The Roar Is Their Stress Response — Not Yours to Absorb When someone interrupts, dismisses, or threatens, that's a fight-flight-freeze-fawn response — theirs. Responding to the roar itself (arguing back, reporting, quitting) only addresses the symptom. Amy's reframe: speak to the stressor behind the roar, not the roar itself, and the entire interaction changes. Androcles and the Lion Amy retells the classic fable: a runaway slave finds an injured, intimidating lion and, instead of fleeing, notices the thorn in its paw and removes it. Later, when the two are thrown together in an arena, the lion refuses to harm him. The lesson: when you address someone's underlying pain instead of reacting to their bad behavior, you don't just neutralize a threat — you can turn it into an ally. Dominance vs. Submission — Reframed Amy untangles two words most people confuse. Dominance isn't hostility — it's understanding your own power and using it to move a situation forward. Submission isn't weakness — it's knowing exactly what you want and asking for it without apology. Negotiation, in her framing, runs on strategy and emotional intelligence, not logic or force. The Framework: Anchor, Align, Ask Anchor — get present and grounded in yourself before the interaction. “I'm safe. You're safe. This is important.” Align — observe carefully, understand where the other person is headed, and get in step with it. “I know what I want, and I know what you want too.” Ask — once trust and safety are established, make a direct, clear request — firm, kind, and specific. Amy is explicit that this only works in order: you can't ask well from a place of fear, and you can't align if you're not anchored first. Heather's Story Amy shares (with permission) the story of Heather, a surgeon who came to coaching while struggling with a difficult colleague. Rather than waiting for the other person to change, Heather worked through the relationship in her own head first — and by the time she left that job, she'd already resolved it internally. She carried that groundedness into her next role, where she described herself as “Switzerland”: same category of problems, completely different result, because she showed up differently. The Invitation Amy closes by naming the real objections surgeons carry into this decision — the price, the time, “I don't think it'll work for my situation,” and the high-achiever reflex of “I should be able to do this myself.” Rather than arguing each one down, she reframes the cost of staying stuck: lost time, lost respect, and the compounding toll of walking into the same rooms with the same lions, year after year. Key Takeaways Negotiation is a skill gap, not a character flaw — no one ever taught it to you. The “roar” you're reacting to is someone else's stress response, not a verdict on you. Dominance is not hostility. Submission is not weakness. Both are tools. You can't align or ask well until you're anchored in yourself first. Addressing someone's underlying pain — not just their bad behavior — can turn a threat into an ally. Confidence isn't the absence of fear; it's the ability to feel any emotion and act anyway. You change your relationships by changing yourself first — not by waiting for the other person to change. Pull Quotes “No one can take your joy. You have to give it to them.” “Dominance is not hostility, and submission is not weakness.” “It's not logic, it's strategy. It's not strength, it's trust and authority. It's not a fight, it's dominance and submission.” “The roar is their stress response. Your response is your stress response.” “Power is a tool, not a threat.” “I used to walk into a room wondering what people thought about me. Now I wonder what I think about them.”

Short and long sales cycles can be impacted by color: red for urgency and quick decisions, yellow for engagement and optimism, green for reassurance and growth, blue for trust and authority. The discussion explored how alignment between color, branding, and SEO can increase website conversions, support customer retention, and create distinct brand recognition.A key theme that emerged was the integration of color psychology, clear language choices, and user-centric design for stronger SEO outcomes and higher conversion rates. Candice built her framework the hard way. After a stroke and brain hemorrhage in 2018 rerouted a decades-long corporate finance career, she gave herself the "graceful pause" to ask where she really wanted to go, and discovered her true gift wasn't the numbers, but being a bridge and connector of relationships. Out of that came ACE: Align your strategy and structure, Connect to the right systems and people, and Expand intentionally. As she puts it, even a great cup of coffee is useless without a container to hold it.Together they get into relationship capital most people never optimize, why you should be "more interested than interesting," and the mindset shift that changes everything: stop checking boxes and start experiencing life. What you'll take away:1. Alignment before achievement. Most people try to perform their way to growth. Get clear on who you are and what uniquely makes you a blessing to others first, the authentic results follow.2. Be interested, not interesting. Relationship capital is built in the moment. Lead with "How can I help you?" and let the connection evolve organically instead of pitching.3. Structure holds the vision. Opportunities mean nothing without the systems and container to support them. Align the team, then connect strategically.4. Bring in a mirror. You can't see your own "spinach in the teeth." A trusted accountability partner, internal or external, sees what you can't. Refusing feedback is why many businesses stall.5. Check your patterns. Be a continual learner: pause, read the landscape, spot the pattern, and only make moves that open the next door.6. Go through, not around. Every challenge, even a horrific culture or a health crisis, is a place to learn. You don't have to agree with how you're treated to grow from it.7. Stop checking boxes. Living is checking boxes. Experiencing life is staying agile when you end up on a road you never planned to walk. Most people don't realize authentic growth starts with alignment, not achievement. Our listeners do.
