This week, we're talking about fitness, sobriety and the strange line between doing something because it makes you feel good and feeling like you have to do it just to feel okay.Jamie talks about the shame cycle that used to come with drinking: waking up hungover, feeling awful about himself, promising to do better and then eventually doing it all over again. Now, years into sobriety, he's noticed something familiar creeping into his relationship with the gym.Training six or seven days a week feels incredible. It gives him routine, endorphins, confidence and a positive outlet that works brilliantly alongside sobriety. But what happens when missing a workout brings guilt? When you start obsessing over calories, weight, steps and how your body looks? Have you actually broken the cycle, or have you just found a healthier-looking place to put it?We talk about why so many of us throw ourselves into fitness after getting sober, when that can be an incredibly positive thing, and when discipline can quietly start turning into obsession.Because the aim isn't to stop caring about fitness. It's learning how to let it add to your life without letting it run your life.Sponsored by Alcohol Change UK https://alcoholchange.org.uk/. Trust and Discernment Go Hand In Hand Recovery teaches us that trust is essential. But it also teaches us that trust without discernment can become dangerous. Many of us entered recovery with damaged trust. Some of us trusted the wrong people. Others trusted no one at all. We had been hurt, manipulated, disappointed, or betrayed—and often we had done the same to others. The answer isn't blind trust. The answer isn't suspicion of everyone. The answer is learning discernment. Discernment is the ability to see things as they are. It helps us distinguish between healthy guidance and bad advice, between people who are safe and people who are not, and between God's will and our own self-will. Trust allows us to connect. Discernment helps us choose wisely where that trust belongs. The Big Book encourages us to seek guidance, take suggestions, and rely on a Higher Power, but it never asks us to abandon common sense. Healthy recovery requires both an open heart and clear eyes. Today on The Daily Trudge, we're talking about the balance between trust and discernment, why neither one works very well without the other, and how recovery teaches us to become both more trusting and more wise at the same time. Because trust builds relationships. Discernment protects them. And together, they help us walk a healthier path. #TheDailyTrudge #Recovery #Trust #Discernment #AA #Wisdom #RecoveryJourney #OneDayAtATime #PersonalGrowth

In this episode, we break down one of the most misunderstood topics in the breeding of chickens and gamefowl: the supposed divide between pure birds, show birds, and performance birds. Spoiler, when breeding is done right, these aren't three different birds. They are the same bird, shaped through balanced selection, structural correctness, health, vigor, and strict adherence to the breed standard. We explore how true strains are built, not bought, through generations of disciplined selection, culling with purpose, and record keeping that preserves and improves your work. Learn why single-trait chasing weakens lines, how the breed standard becomes your roadmap, and why thinking in decades instead of seasons separates real breeders from hobbyists. Trigger Warning: This episode includes conversations about grief, loss of loved ones, family estrangement, trauma, and depression. Have you ever been in so much pain that reaching for a drink just felt like the most human thing to do? That is exactly where today's two guests have been, and this episode will meet you right there. First up is Cathy, 87 days alcohol-free, who joins Coach Cole to work through something she has been quietly carrying for years: a sibling estrangement that started when her family fell apart after her mom passed. She reached out. They pulled away. The hurt stuck around. Then there is Mike, 65 days alcohol-free, who opens up to Coach Zoe about a grief timeline that unfolded faster than he could process: his mom, his estranged brother, a DNR call made from behind the wheel of his car. Drinking to deal with loss became the only language he had for a while, and the depression that came with it crept in so quietly he did not even see it happening. What both of them found inside The Path is what this whole community is built on: a place where someone finally asks the real question, and you finally get to answer it. In Cathy's Session: The sibling estrangement that started with her mom's estate and the grief that stayed long after Why the hurt lingered even when she thought she had mostly moved on The realization that joy and grief can exist at the same time without canceling each other out Coach Cole's reframe: releasing expectations of others is one of the most loving things you can do for yourself How approaching old pain with curiosity and playfulness changes what feels possible In Mike's Session: Losing his mom to brain cancer, then his brother, and carrying all of it without telling a soul A DNR decision made alone over the phone and the guilt that moved in quietly afterward Drinking to deal with loss when there was no framework for grief and no space to speak it out loud The coaching reframe that shifted his guilt into something that actually felt like grace What 65 days alcohol-free looks like in the body: sleep, mornings, energy, and presence The "forever" moment at a family party, said out loud for the very first time And more on grief, identity, repair, and what it looks like to actually come back to yourself... Cole Harvey is a certified Naked Mind Senior Coach. For years, he felt lost and used alcohol as a way to cope, until he decided to go alcohol-free and focus on finding his purpose. Through curiosity, self-compassion, and adventure, he transformed his life. As a habit change and mindset coach, Cole helps young men understand themselves, build better habits, and find meaning. In this powerful episode of the Ultimate Intimacy Podcast, Nick and Amy are again joined by therapist Austin Ellis to discuss part 2 of the previous podcast 449: Emotional and sexual intimacy go hand in hand. They discuss why so many couples struggle to maintain emotional and sexual intimacy after marriage. The conversation focuses on how life changes, unmet expectations, and lack of communication skills can create disconnection between partners. Austin shares practical insights on how couples can rebuild intimacy by developing new relational tools rather than relying on the conditions that existed when they first fell in love. The discussion explores how emotional, sexual, spiritual, intellectual, financial, and recreational intimacy all play a role in a healthy marriage. They talk about how selfishness, entitlement, pride, fear, and shame often replace connection when couples stop intentionally investing in their relationship. They also emphasize that marriage requires daily commitment, vulnerability, and a willingness to understand your spouse's needs, wants, and emotional experiences.Austin provides therapeutic perspective on how couples can move from conflict and disconnection to unity by improving communication, building emotional safety, and choosing love over fear-based reactions. The episode also highlights how trauma, betrayal, and unresolved emotional wounds can impact intimacy—but that healing and hope are possible with the right tools and support.Ultimately, this episode encourages couples to view marriage as a lifelong journey of growth, teamwork, and intentional connection, showing that ultimate intimacy is built through consistent effort, love, and commitment to each other. If you haven't already, go check out the Ultimate Intimacy App in the app stores, or at ultimateintimacy.com to find "Ultimate Intimacy" in your marriage. In this episode of the Ultimate Intimacy Podcast, Nick and Amy are joined by Austin Ellis to talk about how emotional and sexual intimacy are deeply connected in marriage. They discuss how feeling emotionally safe, valued, and understood often creates a stronger desire for physical closeness, while healthy sexual intimacy can also strengthen emotional connection and help couples feel closer overall. The conversation also explores a common “stand off” many couples experience in marriage. One spouse may say they need more emotional connection before they feel desire for sexual intimacy, while the other spouse may feel that physical intimacy is what helps them feel emotionally connected. Austin shares that sexual passion in marriage is often fueled by strong emotional connection first, but that both spouses play an important role in building that bridge. When couples intentionally work on communication, appreciation, and spending meaningful time together, emotional closeness grows, which naturally increases desire and passion.Amy and Austin also talk about how this difference does not have to become a barrier in marriage. Instead, it can become an opportunity for growth when both spouses are willing to understand each other's needs and meet in the middle. When one spouse works to strengthen emotional safety and connection, and the other continues to show affection, pursuit, and patience, couples often find that the emotional and physical sides of intimacy begin to reinforce each other.Austin highlights the importance of vulnerability in this process. When spouses feel safe sharing their thoughts, needs, and feelings without fear of judgment, it builds trust and deepens the connection between them. This episode reminds couples that emotional and sexual intimacy truly go hand in hand. By nurturing connection, communicating openly, and making intentional efforts toward both emotional closeness and physical intimacy, couples can move past the stand off and build a stronger, more passionate, and more fulfilling marriage together. If you haven't already, go check out the Ultimate Intimacy App in the app stores, or at ultimateintimacy.com to find "Ultimate Intimacy" in your marriage. "Culture and strategic improvement—those are inseparable." This is a guiding philosophy of Dr. Jamie Burkhart, Director of Women in Leadership at the Missouri Association of School Administrators (MASA). Joining Dr. Janet Pilcher, Dr. Burkhart discusses her leadership journey and demonstrates why "going slow to go fast" is the only sustainable path to strategic improvement. She also details how MASA's Women in Leadership Initiative has grown from a group of five women to a statewide cohort focused on multiplying leadership, building capacity, and intentionally growing the next generation of female leaders across the state. Listen to hear how focusing on people and purpose helps leaders tackle current challenges like recruitment, retention, and political pressures. This episode addresses questions such as:What are the most pressing and significant trends facing educational leaders today, and how can professional organizations effectively support them? What is the critical relationship between organizational culture and strategic improvement? How does a leader build a foundation for lasting positive change?Recommended Resources:  The Culture-Strategy Equation: Reflections from the AASA Conference, Empowered Leaders and Aligned Values, Go Slow to Go FastFollow Host Dr. Janet Pilcher on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/janetpilcher/
