(WE ARE ALL ACCOUNTABLE) (“Order in the Church” is caused by Careful Correction by the Church) • Some love to confront • Some lovingly confront - us!I. Careful Correction in the Family of Faith - vv. 1-2 (sharp rebuke vs encourage/appeal). Let's back up and answer a critical question that must be thought out before moving forward with correction: • Cover if you can - Proverbs 17:9 • Confront if there's a pattern • The goal of biblical confrontation is reconciliation - to “win” our brothers and sisters back into a right relationship / into healthy fellowship - Ken Sande (Peacemakers Ministry in Billings, MT) - Christian conciliation • Matthew 18:15-18 1. Treat older men as a father - 2. Treat younger men as brothers - 3. Treat older women as mothers - 4. Treat younger women as sisters - * “with/in all purity” - “with complete patience” - • Be encouraging in Ephesus - II Timothy 2:24-26 • II Timothy 4:1-4 • Be careful in Thessalonica - I Thessalonians 5:12-14 • Be gentle in Galatia - Galatians 6:1-2 • Keep the perspective in Phillipi - Philippians 4:1-3 (with joy) • Be warned in James 3:1-10 (scattered saints) Subscribe to get notified on new releases: @fbclc

Let Freedom Ring Part One: Free to Serve Jesus, Gal. 1:1-10 By Louie Marsh, 6-2-2024   Intro – New Bible Trans – Map of Galatia,  To be free to serve Jesus I need to know 4 things:   1) Know  WHERE  my loyalties lie.   “1Paul, an apostle—sent not from men nor by man, but by Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised Him from the dead— 2and all the brothers with me, To the churches of Galatia:” (Galatians 1:1–2, BSB)   I serve GOD not MAN.   This gives me… AUTHORITY   1Paul, an Apostle, not from man or through men's authority but directly from Jesus Christ and God the Father, the One who raised Him from among the corpses.  2And everyone with me, to the congregations in Galatia. Galatians 1:1-2 (LIV)   Not a translation or a paraphrase – but a Paralation! CONFIDENCE POWER PURPOSE   2) Know THE GOSPEL   “3Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, 4who gave Himself for our sins to rescue us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, 5to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.” (Galatians 1:3–5, BSB)   “3For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5and that He appeared to Cephas and then to the Twelve. 6After that, He appeared to more than five hundred brothers at once, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. 7Then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles.” (1 Corinthians 15:3–7, BSB)   3) Know the COUNTERFEITS   “6I am amazed how quickly you are deserting the One who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— 7which is not even a gospel. Evidently some people are troubling you and trying to distort the gospel of Christ. 8But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be under a curse! 9As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be under a curse!” (Galatians 1:6–9, BSB)     “4For if someone comes and proclaims a Jesus other than the One we proclaimed, or if you receive a different spirit than the One you received, or a different gospel than the one you accepted, you put up with it way too easily.” (2 Corinthians 11:4, BSB)   4) Know that I can't please EVERYONE.   “10Am I now seeking the approval of men, or of God? Or am I striving to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ.” (Galatians 1:10, BSB)   And I shouldn't even be TRYING TOO.   So I must choose to please either…   GOD  or MAN.

And he who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward. 42 And whoever gives one of these little ones only a cup of cold water in the name of a disciple, assuredly, I say to you, he shall by no means lose his reward.”If you remember the last few weeks, Jesus has been talking to his disciples as he is sending them out to do Gospel workHe empowers them to deliver people from demons, cure diseases, he tells them where to go, and what to do when they get there. Tells them not to take any money or extra clothes. Tells them to not stay where they are not welcome, that they are going to be persecuted as they go on their travels. That they are going to see families fighting because of their message. He encourages them that God goes with them, and they will be taken care of because they are going to out to confess the name of Jesus. Doing this will cause division. And so now- today he ends his pep-talk with a final word- You are going out as my prophets and if they receive you, they are receiving me. Those who receive you will get a reward. Even the smallest act of kindness bestowed upon the disciples will equal a reward.  V40- Receive the FatherReceiving Jesus messengers is receiving the fatherJesus is encouraging these disciples that as they go out to do Gospel work, that they are operating as emissaries of Jesus- If people accept them, they are accepting Jesus, and by proxy, accepting the one who sent HIM- The fatherThat's really the point of Jesus whole ministry- to get people to come to the FatherIt's the reason why John the Baptist preached repentance, and why Jesus came- to get people to the Father- God. John says it this way- John 13:20 Most assuredly, I say to you, he who receives whomever I send receives Me; and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me.”Pretty basic- if I tell one of my kids- to tell one of my other kids that “Dad said” Means moreAnd this idea that disciples are operating under the authority of Jesus under the FatherTeach you a bit about Military- NCO v Officer v President- You are following the President. The point is pretty simple- if a disciple is telling someone something it is as if God himself is speaking- and to deny this or agree with this is akin to denying Jesus1 John 2:22-23 Who is a liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? Paul, an apostle—sent not from men nor by a man, but by Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him from the dead— and all the brothers and sisters with me, To the churches in Galatia: Galatians 1:1-2 [I was] circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; in regard to the law, a Pharisee…as for righteousness based on the law, faultless. Philippians 3:5-6 …intensely I persecuted the church of God and tried to destroy it. I was advancing in Judaism beyond many of my own age among my people and was extremely zealous for the traditions of my fathers. Galatians 1:13-14 [Saul] fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me? I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting.” Acts 9:4-6 …sent not from men nor by a man, but by Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him from the dead… Galatians 1:1 See what large letters I use as I write to you with my own hand! Galatians 6:11 You’ve been rescued Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave himself for our sins to rescue us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. Galatians 1:3-5 God so loved the world that he gave (dídomi) his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16 You were bought at a price; do not become slaves of human beings. 1 Corinthians 7:23 Some will try to enslave you again. I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you to live in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel—which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. Galatians 1:6-7 IMAGE: PESEVERATION – man walking in circles Avoid the two paths to "do it yourself" grace Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways. Do not turn to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil. Proverbs 4:26-27 “…a person is not justified by the works of the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ…because by the works of the law no one will be justified! …If I rebuild what I destroyed, then I really would be a lawbreaker.” Galatians 2:16, 18 For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace. Romans 6:14 What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? Romans 6:1-2 If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. John 15:10 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. John 15:12 I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!” Galatians 2:21 You’re free forever “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” Galatians 2:20 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. John 8:36 Use your freedom! For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love. Galatians 5:13 (NLT)

Paul throws down the gauntlet in the opening verses of his letter to the church in Galatia (Galatians 1:1-12). He sees trouble, and in an uncomfortable beginning, his disapproval of the church’s situation is laid bare. From the onset it’s clear, Paul will be pulling no punches in his sweeping criticism of the church’s move... Read more
