Throughout my formal ‘preacher' education, I was privileged to take all sorts of classes; biblical studies, histories of various churches and groups, and, especially interesting, were the classes that dealt with the ethical situations one might encounter in the ministry.  These helped this young minister greatly, of course, but my classes did not prepare me for everything.             About 15 years into my ministry, I was called into the hospital Emergency Room; one of my members, a man named Wilbur,  had had a massive stroke, and it was obvious he was not long for this world.  His wife was there, and we talked for some time.  Finally, it was about time for me to leave, and I asked his wife, Imo, if we could pray together.  She said, “Of course,” and I asked her, “Imo, how would you like for me to pray?”  We both knew the grim reality of Wilbur's situation.  She pondered for a few seconds, and finally she grabbed my hand, and said, “Could you pray that God would take him soon?  He's gone, so there's no point in asking for anything else.”  I was relieved, of course, but a little taken aback, because no one had ever asked that of me before.  We prayed as she requested; I gave her a brief hug and went home for the evening.  I got a call from her just a couple of hours later, and she informed me that her husband of over 70 years had gone to be with Jesus.             I've thought of that conversation often over the years.  I am often asked to pray that God will heal or protect one in a crisis; I have also heard people insist on prayers for a miracle, because “it's never too late.” I understand the hope people may have when they face the loss of a loved one. Still, I appreciated Imo's realistic view of the situation.  She had not lost hope, but she did realize that Wilbur's life was over.  We prayed that evening in hope: not the hope of physical healing, but the hope grounded in the resurrection of Jesus.  In Christ, Wilbur's death was a release from the burden of a broken body.  In Christ, his death was an acceptance of God's care for her husband.  And, in Christ, we moved on in the hope that we would be united with him sometime far in the future, as the old song says, “In the sweet by and by.”  God spoke to me that night and reminded me to accept in my heart what I knew in my head: God was always working and could bring a work of comfort and grace, even in the most difficult of times.              God often speaks to us, through his written Word, and through the words of preachers and teachers.  And, just as powerfully, he can speak through the experiences of our lives, as we trust in him, and hear the truth of God's love and grace.       Throughout the scriptures, we hear these kinds of things if we listen; we must only hear His Word.  So, Paul teaches the young pastor Timothy, “I solemnly exhort you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by His appearing and His kingdom 2 preach the Word; be ready in season and out of season; correct, rebuke, and exhort, with great patience and instruction. For the time will come when they will not tolerate sound doctrine. Still, wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance with their own desires.  II Timothy 4:1-3   God speaks; we must always listen.   Be still, and pay attention!   The best way you can support our ministry is by sharing this podcast with your friends and family!

(This podcast was previously published on April 19, 2021)   Jesus Ministries, Joan Boney  ...   Being born again means, we are changed instantly by God.   A young man told me he walked out on his back porch and "something happened."   A woman, who was a long time drunk, said one day "something happened" and she had a great desire to read the Bible after that happened.  She told her husband she was going to quit drinking.  He didn't believe her because he'd heard her say that before.  But this time the power of God was in her to enable her to do those things she could not do before.   In my case, the Holy Spirit spoke these words to me:  "Joan ... you know those mistakes you've been making all these years?  Those weren't mistakes. Those were sins."   After I heard the word of God, by the Spirit of God, I believed and was instantly changed by God.   I read a portion of Bible (Deuteronomy 18:9-12) to my mother one day and she thought about that which I read to her and she said, "Well ... I guess we'd better not do that anymore."  And instantly she was changed by God.   My uncle wrote to me and said:  "Your mother is changed.  She is really changed."   My dad was born again instantly by God when he was in his 70's.  All of a sudden he wanted to go to church.   Jesus said to Peter: Matthew16:17   Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.   It is not that we learn things and change.   We are instantly changed by God and are given the Holy Spirit to live in us.   II Corinthians 5:17  Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.   No man can do this for himself.  He can go forward at church and be baptized and do what they tell him to do to be a member of their church group, but he cannot change inwardly as those who are born of the Spirit of God change.   Being born again is an act of God, not an act of the will of man.   Countless numbers are members of a church group, but few are born of the Spirit of God and changed instantly into completely new creatures by God HIMSELF.   Being born again is instant change caused by God and not by mental learning of man. And it is having the Spirit of God living inside of you now to lead you and guide you.   These statements will make no sense to the vast number of church goers who have not been born again by the Spirit of God.   They think we learn everything by acts of our own will, by reading the Bible.   But we cannot understand things of God by reading the Bible until we have been born again by God.   I Corinthians 2:14   But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.   Jesus said:  Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.  John 3:3   Paul says they are:  "Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth."  (II Timothy 3:7)   But we cannot understand things of God by reading the Bible until we have been born again by God and have the Spirit of God in us to guide us and teach us.  It is HIS Spirit causing us to change and to be recreated in the image of God.   The Spirit of God, the Holy Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. (Galatians 5:22-23)   We cannot obtain these "gifts" by copying others who have these gifts.  These gifts of the Holy Spirit are given by God and are not a learned thing but, rather, a part of the new creation which God causes us to be when HE lives in us.   I Corinthians 6:19  What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?   When we were born as babies from our natural parents, we did nothing to cause ourselves to be born.  Neither can we cause ourselves to be born again.  We are children of God by the will of God, and born of HIS Spirit, and recreated by God in HIS image.   As Jesus was born of the Holy Ghost, we also are now born of the Holy Ghost when we are born again.   And as Jesus could hear from God the Father, now we also can hear from God the Father by HIS Spirit who now lives in us.   As we inherit traits from our natural parents, now we inherit God's characteristics by being born of HIS Spirit.   We are changed by God and we are no longer like that person we once were.   Have you experienced that instant change from God?  If you have, you know it.  And others see that change in you also.   That is what being born again is.  We now have living in us God's Spirit.   I Corinthians 3:16  Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?   It is not that we try to be godly.  We are godly, for God lives in us now, for we are born of God our Father and have HIS Spirit in us. *****   Comments by Pam Padgett    My great-aunt, Aunt Eunice, had gone to the Baptist church, I think all of her life.  As an adult she was very active in the Baptist church, even cleaning the church each week.  I'm sure everyone in our family had no doubt that Aunt Eunice was a Christian.   When she was in her 80's, there was a large family reunion.  At one point during the gathering, Aunt Eunice got up and announced with great joy and excitement that she was now born again!  She said she had always thought she was born again, but she now knew that she hadn't been born again until recently.   I was sitting next to Aunt Eunice's oldest daughter.  She leaned over to me and said "I don't know why Mother is saying this.  She just recently started talking like this.  But she has always been a Christian.  Everyone knows how she has worked at the church and done whatever needed to be done for years."    This daughter obviously didn't understand being born again, but it caused me to rejoice to hear what Aunt Eunice said.   Matthew 7:21-23  Jesus said:  Not every one that saith unto ME, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.   22 Many will say to ME in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Thy name? and in Thy name have cast out devils? and in Thy name done many wonderful works?   23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from ME, ye that work iniquity.   ***   Comments by Joan Boney:   My aunt was Church of Christ all her adult life.  She was different from all the other relatives.  We got along great.  They were afraid of her but I was never afraid of Aunt Ardath.  They would say, "What would Ardath say?"  She was their gold standard concerning what was right and wrong.  But she wasn't that way with me.   After I was born again, I was at her house and the Holy Spirit said to me, "Tell her about being taken into heaven."  I didn't want to do that!  She was Church of Christ!  You don't tell supernatural religious things to Church of Christ.   But I knew it was the Holy Spirit telling me to do this, so I yielded myself to that which the Holy Spirit said for me to do.   I began telling my aunt this story:  After I was born again, I was transported into heaven in the night while I was sleeping.  I was with God and Christ and the Holy Spirit.  (I saw no physical images.  It was in the spirit.)  At that time I was merged into the body of Jesus, made one with the Word of God, God and the Holy Spirit witnessing.   As I told her this story, I noticed that a type of dreamy look came upon her face.   After I finished speaking, she said to me:  "Something like that happened to me once and it was all golden."   Then I knew why we always got along so well.   She once said to me, "I always knew you would never do anything wrong."   I did everything wrong!  But she must have seen me by faith.  For after I was born again I was completely changed instantly.   ***   When we are born again, we know we didn't do anything to cause us to be born again or to justify our being born again, it was all by the will of God.   I think this causes us to be more merciful toward those who are not born again.   Romans 9    6 Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel:   7 Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall Thy seed be called.   8 That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed.   9 For this is the word of promise, At this time will I come, and Sara shall have a son.   10 And not only this; but when Rebecca also had conceived by one, even by our father Isaac;   11 (For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of HIM that calleth;)   12 It was said unto her, The elder shall serve the younger.   13 As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.   14 What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? God forbid.   15 For HE saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.   16 So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.   17 For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might shew MY power in thee, and that MY name might be declared throughout all the earth.   18 Therefore hath HE mercy on whom HE will have mercy, and whom HE will HE hardeneth.   (If you have never experienced these changes from God, I suggest you fall down before God and beg God to have mercy on you.)

I recently came across a story, told by a college professor, about an experience she had in which she believed God had clearly directed her in a specific situation.   The Professor (Joan) told the story of a young woman (Sherry) in one of her classes who was dressed poorly and looked a little ‘shabby'; she also kept to herself and dropped her eyes when she spoke to the teacher and others in the class.  One day, as the young lady was walking out, she said “goodbye” to her, and as the woman walked out, she heard a voice in her head clearly say, “Give her the money in your wallet.”  The professor felt a little odd about the situation and so resisted.  She did look in her wallet and found a $20 bill; not much to lose, she thought.  By the time she walked into the hallway to find her, Sherry had gone out the door and was nowhere to be found.  Joan didn't think any more about it, thinking she had imagined the whole thing.  She was an active Christian and willing to help, but she had never had an experience in which she thought God might be speaking to her!   A few weeks later into the semester, and nothing had changed.  Joan had spoken to Sherry but had never mentioned the experience to her or offered her any money.  And then, one night, it happened again: as the young woman walked out, Joan heard that voice in her head again, “give her the money in her wallet.”   She quickly dug out her wallet and found $40, twice the amount as before.  She leapt to her feet and ran out into the hallway, and chased down the young woman.  She caught up to her and blurted out, “I've never done this sort of thing before, but I'm Christian, and I feel like God has told me to give you the money in my wallet.”  The young woman, surprised by her teacher's approach, took the money and then explained that, just before class, even though she didn't believe in God, she and a friend had prayed for a box of diapers.  She explained that she was a single mother, had run out of money, and could not even buy her infant a box of diapers.  She was desperate and had asked her friends and parents for help, but no one could help her!  The two women spoke for a few minutes about the situation;   Sherry was not a Christian and had never been to church, so she didn't know what to say about God speaking to her teacher, but she was thankful for the help.  They spoke for a few minutes, then went their separate ways.  Over the next few months, they talked often, first about the young child, and then Sherry's prospects for life.  They spoke often over the next few years; eventually, Sherry received Christ as her savior and remembered the help her friend had given her at the prompting of God's Spirit.   There are so many truths from this true story!  Let me speak of just one:  God speaks to his people! Sometimes it is through the words of a teacher or preacher; or, as in our story, God speaks in the heart of a believer to act and, through the actions of others, to help in some way.  More often, God speaks through the Bible, which Christians believe to be the living, powerful Word of God.  Regardless, God speaks!  Here is one passage that speaks to this truth: “From childhood you have known the sacred writings which can give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.  All scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.”  II Timothy 3:15-17   Let me encourage you to read the Bible and learn to trust God's Word.  The scriptures can lead you to salvation in Jesus. As the teachings are applied to your life, they can transform and improve every area of your life, literally.  In the Bible, God speaks!   The best way you can support our ministry is by sharing this video with your friends and family!

(This podcast was previously published on April 11, 2021)   Jesus Ministries, Joan Boney  ...   A woman used to visit with me and speak all manner of secular things which were not in the Bible.   After she spoke, I would explain to her:  "What you just said is not in the Bible.  I want to build my house on the word of God."   Then she would grow very silent for awhile.   Later she would visit me again, and again speak another worldly saying, a vain babbling.  And again, I would tell her what she just said to me is not in the Bible and the Bible is true and what I want to build on.   Philippians 2:13-16   For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of HIS good pleasure. Do all things without murmurings and disputings:  That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;   Holding forth the word of life;   I didn't have to argue or dispute.  I just told her what she said was not in the Bible and that I wanted to build my thinking on that which is in the Bible.   II Timothy 2:16-17 But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.  And their word will eat as doth a canker:   When we speak the word of God, we present the antidote to the poisonous sayings of this world.

(This podcast was previously published on March 16, 2021)   Jesus Ministries, Joan Boney  ...    Matthew 7:13-14  Jesus says: Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:   14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.   After I was born again, I asked my best friend, a Baptist:  "And what do we do now?"   She replied:  "Nothing."   I found that to be puzzling.   Revelation 22:14-15   Blessed are they that do HIS commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.   15 For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.   At church groups, over and over, I would hear people say:  "It is all covered by the blood of Jesus."   It seemed to me that they preached a license to sin.   Revelation 3:5   Jesus says:  He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before MY Father, and before HIS angels.   We overcome the temptation by turning to God after we are born again.   To the woman taken in adultery, Jesus said:  "Go, and sin no more."   Hebrews 10:26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,   II Peter 2:21 For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.   There are many things taught in church groups which make the individuals feel comfortable but are contrary to the scriptures in the New Testament Bible.   II Timothy 3:16-17 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:  That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.   Jesus says:  I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by ME (by The Word).  John 14:6   We are saved by the blood of Jesus, but after that, we do the commandments of God in the New Testament Bible.  Only by doing "the Word" can we enter into things of God and come to God.

  And when we think something, ask yourself:  Where is that in the Bible?   II Timothy 3:16-17  All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:  That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.   As a new Christian, my friend, also a new Christian, and I tried to find in the Bible where it says all men are created equal.   We couldn't find that in the Bible.   So we went to a professor at Dallas Theological Seminary and asked, "Where is it in the Bible where it says all men are created equal?"   He replied, "That's not in the Bible."   We were very shocked!   *****   Sayings of this world:   "You'll never get out of this world alive."   * I Corinthians 15:51-52   Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep (die), but we shall all be changed,  In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.   ***   "Nothing last forever."   * Matthew 24:35  Jesus says:  Heaven and earth shall pass away, but MY words shall not pass away.   ***   Catholic pope said:  " I see no problem with homosexuals."   Bible says:  Romans 1:26-28   For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:   27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.   28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;   ***   I Corinthians 6:9-10   Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God?  Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate  (homosexuals), nor abusers of themselves with mankind,   10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.   ***   Pastor said, "I see no problem with a divorced woman remarrying.  My sister is divorced and remarried."   Bible says:   Matthew 5:32  Jesus says:  But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.   - Man who divorces a faithful wife, will be the cause of that faithful wife's adultery if she remarries.   - Man who marries a divorced woman commits adultery.   I Corinthians 7:10-11  And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband:  But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife.   Romans 7:3   So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man.   ***   Proverbs 14:12   There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.   ***   After I was born again, all these problems started.  My best friend said, "Joanie, you shouldn't be having all these problems now that you are a Christian."   II Timothy 3:12   Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.   II Peter 4:12-14   Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:  But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when HIS glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.  If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part HE is evil spoken of, but on your part HE is glorified.   ***   After I was born again, I asked my friend, a Baptist, "What do we do now?"    She replied, "Nothing."   What the Bible says:  Revelation 22:14  Blessed are they that do HIS commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.   ***   Doctrine of "once saved always saved."   Revelation 3:5  Jesus says:  He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before MY Father, and before his angels.   ***   After she was born again, Pam Padgett began trying to find in the Bible doctrines which she had been taught in the Catholic church.   She kept thinking, "I'm sure this must be in the Bible because they taught it in the Catholic church!"   But she found doctrines which she had learned in the Catholic church that were not in the Bible.

Flee - James 4:7 • We run away from sin (sanctification), but Satan runs away from you (submission) II. The Shepherds as Bond-Servants: 1. “Must not be” - “quarrelsome.” • I Timothy 2:8; 3:3; 6:4 • Titus 3:2; Titus 3:9 • II Timothy 2:14; 2:23; 2:24 2. “Must be” - Serving & Discerning • Kind to everyone - (leads to repentance - Romans 2:4) • Able to teach - unique word here and I Timothy 3:2. Ezra 7:10, The hand of the Lord is upon him because He SET HIS HEART to (3): Rigorous study; Regular obedience; Robust teaching. • Not resentful - (patient when wronged). Many commentators noted that this is one of the most difficult challenges of a pastor. What is the key to being faithful to this verse? Making sure ministry is about His Name; His Word; His Will. It's not about us. • Correcting opponents w/ gentleness - (correcting carefully) - Look to Joseph of Genesis and Jesus of Nazareth! Genesis 50:20; I Peter 2:21-23 3. The Bible is God's message, God's word (II Timothy 3:16-17; II Peter 1:20-21). However, in the Bible there are speakers that say things that are incorrect or particularly designed to deceive. For example, the words of the serpent, the devil in Gen. 3:4-5; Matt. 4:1-11. The words of false prophets are recorded in I Kings 22:9-12 or Jer. 28:1-4 and false accusations against John and Jesus are recorded in Matt. 11:18-19 and Luke 7:33-34. When the Bible reports something happening it is true but there are those in its pages who do not speak on God's behalf.  Job is the most difficult book of the Bible to determine whether the spokesman is from God or not. In the epilogue the LORD says that Eliphaz and his two friends have not spoken of Him what is right (Job 42:7). The LORD plainly says it, these men do not speak for Him. Does that mean that everything they say is wrong? In Job 5:13 Eliphaz says, “He captures the wise by their shrewdness.” Paul quotes these words in I Cor. 3:19 and introduces them with “For it is written.” The only time that Job is specifically quoted in the New Testament it is the words of Eliphaz. Obviously, not everything that Eliphaz and his friends said was wrong. On the other hand, Job was said to speak of God what was right in Job 42:7. While Job spoke what was right, does that mean that all he spoke was correct? The LORD said that Job, “Who is this who darkens counsel with words without knowledge?” (Job 38:2) and Job repeats these words confessing his sin of speaking of the things “which I did not understand” in 42:3. After this confession, he retracts and repents in 42:6. Clearly, Job says things that are not right. Also, how do we take the words of Elihu? Elihu is not mentioned at all by God at the end of the book. Does that mean that he said nothing different from the friends or does it mean that God approves of his words? The question is how do we know what the various speakers say that is from God and what is not? These factors make Job an extremely difficult book.

Psalm 68 – God shares His victory and strength with His people. Ephesians 4:7-13 – Jesus shares His victory with the church, and gives it grace and gifts to equip the saints. II Timothy 2:1-7 – We need to lean on Jesus for the strength to be steadfast. Steadfastness looks like: enduring hardship, staying unentangled, remaining obedient to the Gospel, and working faithfully in hope of harvest. When we’re feeling weak, we should continue to wait on Jesus for strength. We should also be willing to share our struggles with people in the church; not all of the grace we need comes directly from Jesus to us. The breath of God represents His divine power to create, sustain, and renew life. In Genesis 2:7, God breathes into Adam, and humanity becomes alive—every living soul depends on God's Spirit. Job 33:4 and Psalm 104:29–30 emphasize that the same breath that gives life also sustains it; when God withdraws His Spirit, life ends, but when He sends it forth, renewal and creation begin again. God's breath also reveals His truth and power through His Word and Spirit. As written in II Timothy 3:16, all Scripture is “God-breathed,” and carries divine authority to teach, correct, and transform. In Ezekiel 37, God's breath revives dry bones, symbolizing His ability to restore what is spiritually dead. And, when Jesus breathes on His disciples in John 20:22, He imparts the Holy Spirit, giving them new spiritual life and purpose. The breath of God is both the source and sustainer of all life—physical and spiritual. From creation to Pentecost, it is portrayed as the active presence of God working within creation and humanity. This breath continues to give vitality, faith, and renewal to all who receive it.

He warns that a time will come when people will reject sound teaching and seek teachings that suit their desires. Timothy is called to remain steady, endure hardship, and fulfill his ministry fully. Paul reflects on his own life, stating he has fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith. He looks forward to the crown of righteousness that the Lord will award to all who long for His appearing. Paul closes with personal remarks, requesting companionship, providing updates on other believers, and affirming that the Lord stood by him, even when no one else did. He ends with confidence in God's faithfulness and eternal glory. We are reminded that our calling is not shaped by comfort or applause, but by faithfulness to God's truth. When we feel tired or discouraged, give us the strength to continue. Teach us to speak with clarity, to love with courage, and to endure with hope. Let us not measure success by applause, but by allegiance to You. Remind us that You are near, even when others leave. You are the one who equips, who defends, and who rewards. May we finish our race with joy, with our hearts set on Your return. Keep our eyes on the crown that does not fade. Thought Questions: What helps you boldly share truth even when it's “out of season”? Why is it sometimes difficult to stay patient and gentle in such environments? What kept Paul faithful to the Lord Jesus Christ no matter what he faced? People will become lovers of self, money, and pleasure rather than lovers of God. They will appear religious but will deny the true power of godliness. Sadly, they will progress from bad to worse. Paul urges Timothy to avoid such individuals, especially those who deceive others while resisting the truth. He reminds Timothy that persecution is a reality for all who desire to live godly lives in Christ Jesus. However, Timothy is encouraged to remain steadfast in what he has learned, holding firmly to the Scriptures that have shaped his faith since childhood. Paul affirms that all Scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, correcting, and training in righteousness, equipping believers for every good work.  We live in a world that often values self above truth. Some hold to a form of godliness but are led by the adversary. We must remain alert to the attitudes and behaviors Paul warns against, guarding our hearts from pride, greed, and spiritual compromise. We are called to sincerely pursue godliness, even when it leads to hardship or opposition. The foundation for this life is the Word of God. Scripture is not just information; it is the voice of God shaping our minds and transforming our actions. We must hold tightly to what we have learned, remain rooted in truth, and let the Word train us to live with purpose, integrity, and a deep commitment to the way of Christ.  Holy Lord, in a world filled with confusion and pride, help us to stand firm in truth. Guard our hearts from the temptation to follow what is popular instead of what is right. Fill us with a deep love for Your Word, and give us wisdom to recognize what is false. Strengthen our faith when we face difficulty, and remind us that godliness is worth every cost. Help us learn to let Scripture shape our thoughts, guide our choices, and prepare us for every good work You have planned. May we reflect Christ in how we live, speak, and serve.   Thought Questions: How can people claim godliness but also be selfish and destructive? How do you avoid such a dangerous and tragic departure from Jesus? Is it true that “all who desire to live godly in Jesus Christ will be persecuted”? Paul encourages Timothy to rekindle the spiritual gift God gave him and reminds him that the Spirit of God does not make believers timid but gives them power, love, and self-discipline. He urges Timothy not to be ashamed of the gospel or of Paul's suffering but to join in enduring hardship for the sake of Christ. Paul reminds him that God saved them by grace and called them to a holy life and to guard the standard of truth God has revealed. Paul expresses full confidence in Christ despite imprisonment, urging Timothy to guard the truth through the Holy Spirit who lives in them. This emotional letter from Paul to Timothy reminds us that our faith must be active and cultivated with intentional care. We have been entrusted with a sacred message, one that has the power to transform lives. We are not called to live in fear or hesitation, but in the strength, love, and discipline that God provides in His holy word. Our calling is not earned, but given by grace, and it must be exclaimed as we share the triumphant victory of Jesus Christ. We must be willing to endure hardship for the gospel's sake, standing firm in truth regardless of opposition. With the help of the Holy Spirit, we are equipped to remain faithful and to protect what God has placed within us, the treasure and pattern of truth.  Loving God, we come before You with gratitude for the faith You are developing within us. Teach us how to strengthen what is weak and stir anew the gifts You have entrusted to our care. Help us to walk not in fear, but in the power, love, and self-discipline that come from Your Spirit. Teach us to stand unashamed of the gospel and to endure hardship with grace. May we guard the truth faithfully, not in our strength but through the Holy Spirit who lives within us. May our lives reflect the calling and purpose You have set before us. Thought Questions: Paul had a special relationship with Timothy that uplifted him.
