The high holidays are days of judgment. On Rosh Hashanah, every single person stands before God in judgment and their verdict is written, but left unsealed until the great and awesome day of Yom Kippur, when it is finalized and sealed. We take these days very seriously. There are all sorts of extra prayers and supplications designed to elicit repentance and atonement and expiation and cleansing which is so urgently needed during these days. We are trained to try to make a resolution that will put us on the path towards elevation and transformation. Our sages found an insight from this week's Parsha that serves as the best tactic to merit a good judgment. Humans are incapable of corruption-free Justice. God is completely just, in all of His ways. In this podcast, we learn the secret to best position ourselves for a good judgment.– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –This Parsha Podcast is dedicated by the Yashar family in loving memory of John Ben Farajollah, May his soul be elevated in Heaven.– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –DONATE to TORCH: Please consider supporting the podcasts by making a donation to help fund our Jewish outreach and educational efforts at https://www.torchweb.org/support.php. In this penultimate parsha podcast we focus on what happens afterwards. After the Song, Moshe shares a few pithy words about the nature of Torah. As we near the end of this cycle of Torah and prepare to embark on another, it is helpful and useful to hear how Moshe defines Torah. The lessons will forever transform our understanding.– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –DONATE: Please consider supporting the podcasts by making a donation to help fund our Jewish outreach and educational efforts at https://www.torchweb.org/support.php. Still in the final day of Moshe's life, he conveys to the nation a 43-verse Song predicting the contours of Jewish history, both past, present, and future. The patterns are familiar to the readers of Deuteronomy and even casual observers and students of Jewish history: The nation is recipients of tremendous divine goodness, yet they become corpulent and rebel against God. Consequently, God allows the nations to feast upon the people, but despite the harsh and painful torment and suffering, we continue to exist. The Song ends with a vivid description of the Messianic reclamation.– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –DONATE to TORCH: Please consider supporting the podcasts by making a donation to help fund our Jewish outreach and educational efforts at https://www.torchweb.org/support.php. שיחת יום א' פ' האזינו, אור לכ"ה אלול ה'תשמ"ט ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=18-09-2025 Synopsis Although the world was created on 25 Elul, it is Rosh Hashanah, on 1 Tishrei that marks “the day of the beginning of Your works,” because on that day Hashem created man, who fulfils the purpose of creation. Thus we see that 25 Elul also emphasizes the quality of the Jewish people, for whose sake the world was created. The connection between Rosh Hashanah and 25 Elul can be understood based on the difference between “This” (“This day… – Rosh Hashanah) and “So” (כ"ה=25 Elul)”: The term “this” indicates the revelation of a thing itself, while “so” indicates only a similarity to it. We also find these two levels in the creation of man, who was created, “in our image” (“This”) and “according to our likeness” (“So”). In divine service these represent two modes of unity with Hashem through Torah study and performing mitzvos, and this is the way to prepare for the modes of “in our image” and “according to our likeness” as they will exist upon the true and complete Redemption very soon.Excerpt from sichah of Sunday, parashas Haazinu, night of 25 Elul 5749 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=18-09-2025 לזכות ארי' צבי בן מרים שי' ליום ההולדת שלו כ"ה אלול - לשנת ברכה והצלחה, ואריכות ימים ושנים טובות
Parshas Hazinu is one of the most fascinating, poetic, and richly profound Parshas in the Torah. It is also arguably the most mysterious one. The majority of the Parsha is the Song of Haazinu, an intricate tapestry of prophecies that encapsulate the grand scope of Jewish history. The commentators on this Parsha strive to even […]
The Song of Haazinu, the third of three Songs on the Torah, tells the story of the Jewish people, past, present, and future. It speaks of high points and nadirs, this world and the next, devastation and reclamation. In this podcast we examined the Song's beginning. Moshe compares his words and his speech to rain, […]
