Incident Recap: On February 18, 2026, around 9:30 p.m., Grand Rapids Police Department (GRPD) officers attempted to stop Da'Quain Johnson (32, Black man) on a bicycle near Eastern Avenue SE, suspecting he was armed (he was a convicted felon on parole with a prior gun charge). Johnson fled into an apartment complex parking lot. Officers deployed a K-9, leading to a struggle on the ground. An officer fired 3 shots into Johnson while he was face-down (K-9 biting his arm/neck area). An Epic E1000, N98FK, crashed near Steamboat Springs, Colorado during a night RNAV (GPS) approach. The lateral track was almost perfect, but the vertical profile was fatal: the airplane remained on an LNAV+V "advisory glide slope" and descended below the 9,100-foot MDA into terrain. Max explains what Garmin calls Advisory Vertical Guidance, why LNAV+V can look nearly identical to an LPV on the PFD, and why it does not provide obstacle protection below minimums. He shows the airplane crossed the FAF MABKY and stepdown fix WDCHK essentially on altitude—then continued descending instead of leveling at MDA. Max reviews the three requirements in 91.175(c) for descending below an MDA, explains why many autopilots will fly any coupled glidepath right through minimums unless you intervene, and decodes chart warnings like "Visual Segment – Obstacles" / "34:1 is not clear." He also shares his own simulator experience flying the RNAV (GPS) Z RWY 32 at KSBS and hitting the same mountain when the autopilot was coupled to the advisory glidepath. Description of the book from Amazon: Western civilization is becoming increasingly pluralistic, secularized, and biblically illiterate. Many people today have little sense of how their lives have benefited from Christianity's influence, often viewing the church with hostility or resentment. How Christianity Changed the World is a topically arranged Christian history for Christians and non-Christians. Grounded in solid research and written in a popular style, this book is both a helpful apologetic tool in talking with unbelievers and a source of evidence for why Christianity deserves credit for many of the humane, social, scientific, and cultural advances in the Western world in the last two thousand years. Hopefully this conversation is a powerful reminder that others are evaluating what is important to you by looking at your life. We welcome Rob Diamond to the show today. I met Rob in 2024 in Hot Springs, when we went and tried to help out after Hurricane Helene. Rob told me then that he was planning on a 2025 thru-hike, so I asked him then to follow up with me once he was done.                     Rob's hike didn't turn out as he had expected, yet he battled through innumerable obstacles as he made his way to Katahdin, eventually summiting on his intended summit date of 9/11.                               On the way, Rob raised awareness of the scourge of suicide among military and first responders by carrying dog tags to represent those who die by suicide.
