This is the third of our three-part series featuring CEOs who have successfully exited (or recapitalized) a Shore portfolio company. In this episode, Hilarie Aitken shares her experience as the CEO of Navia, a consumer-directed benefits provider serving 9,000+ employers across all 50 states. Hilarie discusses how her father founded Navia and she stepped in to run the business after his untimely passing. She talks about her search for a private equity partner and how the partnership with Shore aligned with the unique circumstances of their family-run business. Hilarie also highlights her lessons learned as CEO of a scaling business. In February 2021, Shore announced the sale of Navia Benefit Solutions, a third-party administrator of Flexible Spending Accounts and other tax-advantaged benefits including Commuter and Transit Benefits, Health Savings Accounts, Health Reimbursement Arrangements, and COBRA services. Shore and Navia executed a growth plan that included five strategic acquisitions and substantial organic growth. With the health benefits open enrollment period ending for companies, this episode is shifting the focus to talk about one benefit that employers are increasingly offering as an option with high-deductible health plans to their employees: Health Savings Accounts (HSA's). With lots of research conducted by Voya on HSAs, Kerry is joined by Matt Farrar, AVP of Strategic Solutions at Voya to talk more about the power of HSAs. Matt has a great deal of experience with HSAs, but particularly when it comes to helping employers communicate their value to their workforce. Health Reimbursement Arrangements, or HRAs, are a modern way for employers to provide health benefits to employees. Rather than a one-size-fits-all group plan — or leaving employees to cover all of the costs of the plan on their own — employers can now offer their employees a tax-free allowance to purchase benefits that meet their unique needs. In simpler times, health reimbursement arrangements, or HRAs, were furry, fluffy, friendly creatures in the benefits forest. But now … not so much. They’re multiplying like crazy, and growing fangs and claws. In this episode, Ed and Scott track the current species of HRAs, in all their varieties. How do the endlessly evolving types of HRAs differ from each other? What kind of HRAs can an employer offer, and to whom, without getting bitten? What do Tesla sedans have to do with HRAs? (Ed is slow on the take-up, and still not clear.) Can an employer offer young (tan) Scott a group plan and old (probably dying) Ed an HRA and a one-way ticket to Medicare? What advantages or “free passes” from complex ACA regulation do some of the new HRAs offer employers?
There are a couple of new Health Reimbursement Arrangements (HRAs) on the horizon. We take a deep dive into these new options and this benefit as a whole! HRA Comparison - www.DiscoveryBenefits.com/HRA-comparison
In this episode of Williams Mullen's Benefits Companion, Brydon DeWitt and Claire Pollock discuss proposed health reimbursement arrangement regulations that may provide welcome relief and flexibility for employer-provided health benefits.
In October 2017, President Trump issued an Executive Order calling on the departments to take action on a handful of specific tasks, one of which was to expand the use of Health Reimbursement Arrangements (HRAs). We finally saw proposed guidance on this in late October 2018 when two new types of HRAs were introduced. Listen in to learn more about these proposed HRAs and how they might impact employers.
It's the calm before the storm as politicos and policy wonks in Washington, D.C. and throughout the country await the results of Tuesday's midterm elections. More than 6,000 legislative seats and 36 governorships are at stake, but most of the attention has been focused on control of Congress and whether a “Blue Wave” of Democratic voters will materialize to flip control of the House or Senate. On this week's episode, NAHU's John Greene and Chris Hartmann take a deep dive at the key contests to watch on election night, both in terms of early indicators for how the night might go, and the races that could have the most impact on NAHU's legislative agenda in the new Congress. Additionally, NAHU's Vice President of Government Affairs Marcy M. Buckner helps to unpack the Trump Administration's latest regulatory efforts—the proposed rule to expand Health Reimbursement Arrangements, and the guidance to provide greater state flexibility of the ACA's State Relief and Empowerment Waivers.
