The Defense Department is blowing through initial estimates of what its Golden Dome initiative would cost. General Michael Guetlein, Golden Dome's manager, said Tuesday the Pentagon is “at $185 billion for the objective architecture, which delivers way out into the 2035 timeframe.” This estimate is already $10 billion more and will take five years longer than what President Donald Trump said it would cost and when it would be ready. Guetlein also says that outside projections are “estimating a very large, complex capability.” The Defense Department instead is “changing that equation, simplifying, disaggregating it, to bring down that cost equation” that won't exceed that $185 billion. Ohio State's Sonny Styles put on an absolute show at the NFL Scouting Combine on Thursday. The 6-foot-5, 244-pound Styles recorded a vertical leap of 43.5 inches, which is the highest for an off-ball linebacker in 23 years. He also ran the 40-yard dash in 4.46 seconds and recorded a standing broad jump of 11'2" which was also the best among all linebackers and defensive linemen who took part Thursday. (He was the only player on Thursday to top 11 feet.) Also, many draft analysts now have Caleb Downs projected as the No. 2 overall pick in the draft, with Mel Kiper being the latest. Many others still have Arvell Reese going off the board at No. 2. Will the Jets' pick come down to one of those two Buckeyes? And did Styles enter his name in the conversation after wowing everyone in attendance in Indianapolis yesterday? Jonah Booker and Dave Biddle discuss all of that and much more on the Friday 5ish. On this week's edition of The Michigan Recruiting Insider, Sam Webb, Steve Lorenz, and Brice Marich discussed the latest developments for the Wolverines in the transfer portal. The Michigan recruiting insider discussed the impact of the transfer portal on Michigan's roster. Key points included the retention of major players such as Andrew Marsh and Jordan Young, and the acquisition of top talent such as Jamie Ffrench and Smith Snowden. However, the panel highlighted the challenges of attracting top talent from the portal at linebacker and defensive tackle. To address these gaps, the program has focused on developing young players, including Alister Vallejo, Deyvid Palepale, Jamarion Vincent, Shamari Earls, and Travis Moten. The discussion also covered strategic decisions for the portal, including the loss of Justice Haynes to Georgia Tech and the acquisition of Taylor Tatum. Additionally, Lorenz noted the challenges of Michigan's admissions process, which often deters transfers.
