For this episode, Jeannette is joined by Ian Price, who is the director of the Confederation of British Industry here in Wales. They talk about all things business. Including starting companies, scaling them and how the CBI can help. As well as discussing some of the trends and pressures that many people are feeling at the moment. Ian also talks about his career journey. He also explains what the CBI does, in particular, how they lobby on behalf of businesses. As well as discussing diversity, levelling up, hybrid working, mental health and more subjects that impact business owners, with Jeannette. KEY TAKEAWAYS Honesty is important in business. If you are not honest about things, you never uncover problems and deal with them effectively. The CBI lobbies parliament and helps them to understand the impact their regulatory changes are likely to have. They act as a bridge between the two groups. Most people unconsciously recruit people who look and sound like them. It is something every business needs to be aware of and actively combat. In some areas, recruiting a diverse workforce is difficult because certain kinds of people are still not applying for certain jobs because they wrongly assume that they can't do the work. Changing attitudes at the primary school level is key to ensuring you get a diverse pool of candidates. Having one mobile for work and one for your personal life helps you to switch off properly. Take advantage of any grants, courses, workshops, and organisations that are there to help your business. If you are honest, present your real self and treat people as you would like to be treated yourself others warm to you, and buy. BEST MOMENTS ‘I actually say, from all of my years in business, that the CBI has been a key part of engagement. ´ ‘I think sometimes keeping your body healthy is as important as keeping your mind healthy.' ‘The zoom way of working is efficient but isn't always effective.' This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. It's never too late to be BRAVE and BOLD and unlock your inner BRILLIANCE. The future for so many is very unclear at the moment and in this coronavirus special of The Wales Business Review, we explore some of the issues affecting businesses in Wales. In today's episode I speak to Ian Price, the leading sales expert , performance psychologist and author. Ian is a CEO-turned business psychologist specialising in helping organisations both develop effective sales processes and build the mental toughness needed to achieve it. Having previously worked in consultancy and in a number of executive roles across the telecoms and technology industries, Ian has become an expert in selling and business development. Specialising in helping professional services businesses improve their own internal sales capability. This is an episode I've wanted to do for a long time. Sales is often seen as a ‘dirty' word in consulting but it's a key skill for anyone who has ambitions to get to Partner In the increasingly competitive business world, the ability to sell is essential for success. However, sales can often be an intimidating task for consultants so it's great to have professionals such as Ian to help take that fear away and provide a fresh approach to selling. During our conversation we discuss a number of topics that will help you improve your selling including: • The difference between zero sum and positive sum selling and how it can help you get over your fear of selling. • Ian's practical advice for building an effective lead pipeline - even from a standing start. • And the processes and systems you can use to help supercharge your selling, whether you're running a whole firm, running a practice or just trying to sell more yourself. It was great to meet with Ian and hear his thought-provoking views on how best to approach the often-daunting task of selling. I hope you enjoy today's episode and that Ian's advice will encourage you to develop your own effective sales process, boost your own business development pipeline and help you to grow your career. As you may have noticed, life isn’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s tough at times, but how you deal with setbacks as and when they arise largely dictates how successful you will be. That’s what performance psychologist Ian Price reckons anyway, and Simon sits down with him to uncover how to build a positive mindset, and asks whether resilience is actually more important than talent. This is all scientifically proven stuff from credible fields like sports psychology and neuroscience, and are the sort of things put into practice by top sports stars including the likes of Sir Andy Murray and the whole of Team GB, on the way to winning Wimbledon titles and Olympic Gold medals.
