Yes, we should reintegrate the Christian faith with science. But what if that means that we should look for the creator God in every aspect of God's creation? What if the Bible and science are meant not only to coexist but actually to inform one another? John Van Sloten has written God Speaks Science: What Neurons, Giant Squid, and Supernovae Reveal about Our Creator (Moody, 2023), in which he dives into what God reveals about life and himself in the created order, which is explored and studied through scientific vocations.Scroll down to read more about this episode.Subscribe on your favorite podcast app!On this EpisodeJohn Van Sloten is a pastor, theologian, and writer who seeks to discern God's voice revealing himself in all things, both in the book of the Bible and the book of God's creation.John has written two other books reintegrating the Christian faith with all of life. Al Roxburgh and Jenny Sinclair talk with John van Sloten about his experience of God's “common grace” after more than twenty-five years as a pastor in Calgary, Canada.  John shares how the dyslexia he was born with has been used by the Spirit to help him recognize and engage God's presence and agency in creation and nature.  He talks about stepping away from a more traditional pastoral ministry and how he is now leaning into a theology of encounter and “church without walls'', discovering God at work in unexpected places, like city hall and a multinational corporation.John Van Sloten is a community theologian and writer who lives in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. His passion is to know God more. For the past 20 years he's been exploring a worldview that seeks to discern God's voice in all things: the Bible and creation (i.e. the arts, sport, science, film, music, literature, history, mathematics, nature and human nature). Have you ever spent time with someone and felt like you’ve been with Jesus? When Shawna and her husband Dan got married they had the privilege of serving in a church under the leadership of a seasoned couple, Cecil & Arlene Martens. They had such deeply rooted love relationship with Jesus that being with them was like being with Him. “I want to be like them when I grow up.” Singer-songwriter Brandon Heath found himself spiraling into a really dark place in the past 2 years. And at the root of it all was a deep father wound that could only be healed with forgiveness. As those who have been so generously forgiven we are called to generously forgive. Choosing to forgive is trusting that God will be just in the way he deals with those who’ve hurt us. And Perry, whose mom went to heaven in 2020 gets to hear her voice again! When we are creating, doing work that brings us joy with our unique giftedness, we are experiencing God. How about you?  What if you prayed today, and asked God to attune you to Him in your work? We return this year for a penultimate swing through Paul's letter to the Romans. We've been working our way, chapter-by-chapter, through this monumental letter. And this year, we pick up where we left off last spring starting in chapter 9. Romans is full of heavy theology, but underneath it all is the tender heart of a disciple who wants to communicate the story of Jesus. What is the “good news” of Jesus Christ? Why do people need to hear it? How can we experience it? What will it mean for our future? And what does Jesus have to do with our everyday lives? It's these fundamental questions that form Paul's agenda in Romans—an agenda dictated by a combination of audiences, circumstances and purposes but always pointing us back to Jesus.★ Support this podcast ★
