We all do it. from the moment we are born, each one of us is moving towards a point in our lives that looks very much like the point we started at. Unable to care for ourselves and dependent on others to help us. My guest on this episode, Julio Briones, has spent much of his adult life in the senior care industry; from recruiting employees for his Mothers' senior care facility at fifteen, to running a consulting group helping other entrepreneurs start and succeed in the senior care industry, his insight and understanding are invaluable.

By 24, Julio Briones had 2 clothing stores, a beautiful condo, and just about anything else that would deem him a success. He would've never thought that seeing a movie with a friend would change the trajectory of his life. His bright future was quickly exchanged for a 39 year prison sentence.
The average person in America has a 1 in 28 chance of getting arrested for non-traffic related crimes, and that number dramatically increases once traffic violations are added. Julio Briones, Personal Crisis Manager, Author, Expert and CEO of AnswerMan Specialty Services was one of them. In 2002 he was arrested and, like most people he wasn’t prepared for what came next because…”it could never happen to me”. His mistakes resulted in a 39 year prison sentence and became the driving force for him to learn the law and, after only serving 10 years, earn his freedom. Today, he uses what he has learned to help other get prepared and get through what could be the most trying time of their life, as well as their family’s. He believes that the only obstacles in life are the ones we put there, and people need to let go of the crutch of victimization if they ever want to redefine and achieve success for themselves. It's episode 37 of This Strange Life and we are joined by Julio Briones. This episode is a deep dive into a few serious and interest topics: incarceration, wrongful conviction and what it's like to come back from that. Julio now runs Answer Man Specialty Services — a personal crisis management company. In his youth, Julio got caught up in the wrong crowd and ended up in jail. Due to not understanding the system and hiring the wrong attorney, Julio was sentenced to 39 years in prison. Julio talks about what it was like coming to terms with a sentence so long and the low points that go with it. He took his life into his own hands, became a paralegal and, over time and with hard work, saw his sentence reduced to 12 years. We discuss how he was able to pick himself up by the bootstraps and turn his life around. Now that he is out — he has a family and a business. Very inspiration, albeit, heavy pod. Enjoy!
