On March 18, 2019 the world lost filmmaker and FX legend John Carl Buechler (FRIDAY THE 13TH PART VII: THE NEW BLOOD, TROLL, HATCHET). John was much more than just a beloved artist. He was also a husband, a father of three, and a dear friend. His passing is heartbreaking on a deeply personal level for both Adam Green and Joe Lynch. John was a childhood hero to both Adam and Joe as his work helped to shape/warp their young, horror loving, Fangoria obsessed minds. He was one of the very first to believe not only in Adam's "Victor Crowley" character but in Adam as a filmmaker. Immediately after reading Adam's screenplay for HATCHET John signed on as the film's lead effects artist even though the funding for the film was still not fully in place. John's mere involvement in the project as the film's FX artist helped give HATCHET some legitimacy within the genre world and helped Adam secure such veteran horror icons as Kane Hodder, Robert Englund, and Tony Todd for the film. However, John's role in the HATCHET franchise went far beyond designing the over the top effects seen on screen as he would also become an advisor, a cheerleader, and a friend. On the final day of THE MOVIE CRYPT's 2nd annual 48-hour marathon to benefit Save A Yorkie Rescue (2017), John Carl Buechler and Kane Hodder joined Adam, Joe, and Arwen to perform a live commentary for FRIDAY THE 13TH PART VII. The commentary was re-broadcast as an exclusive for THE MOVIE CRYPT's beloved Patreon supporters but has never been re-broadcast for the general public - until now. In the wake of John's passing Adam, Joe, and Arwen wanted to share this incredibly fun and informative moment in time with John's fans around the world. So put on your copy of FRIDAY VII at home and listen along as we remember John Carl Buechler and celebrate what many believe to be his finest work. Rest in peace, Maestro. Your cinematic legacy is eternal.
