Send a textWelcome back to the Back in Time Brothers Radio Show, where your hosts DJ Paulie and Lou bring you 40 years of pop culture straight from the record crates to your ears! This week, we are digging through the bargain bins to bring you "Diamonds in a Dumpster"—a hilarious and nostalgic look at the absolute worst albums released by legendary artists, and the one redeeming track that managed to survive the wreckage. In this jam-packed episode, we're serving up an incredible variety of retro goodness:The Top 10 Countdown with Brit: We spin the "best of the worst" tracks from brilliant bands who completely missed the mark. Hear the chaotic backstories and the lone musical gems from Aerosmith's Nine Lives, The Rolling Stones' Dirty Work, Kiss's Unmasked, David Bowie's Never Let Me Down, and the disastrous Gary Cherone era of Van Halen.Rock Talk with Todd Snyder: Take a deep dive down the rabbit hole of the most expensive and delayed rock album in history—Guns N' Roses' Chinese Democracy. Todd breaks down the insane 15-year, $13 million production that included a dog-poop-scented chicken coop for guitarist Buckethead, a spiritual "aura" reader, and a disastrous Dr. Pepper giveaway.Movies Retro Style: DJ Paulie and Lou go head-to-head debating the best and worst actors to ever portray iconic movie characters. Find out who reigns supreme (and who failed miserably) playing Willy Wonka, Jack Ryan, Catwoman, Freddy Krueger, Robin Hood, and The Joker.TV Time: We take a hilarious look at the worst television shows ever made that were canceled after just one single episode. You won't believe some of these premises, including a 1990 British sitcom with a jaw-droppingly offensive historical premise that was immediately yanked from the airwaves.Busted! & Random Facts: As always, we kick things off with a roundup of the world's dumbest criminals—including a car thief who got caught because he was too busy playing Grand Theft Auto, and a diamond thief whose own coughing fit betrayed him. Plus, stick around for mind-blowing retro trivia about The Matrix digital rain, George Washington's real teeth, and the irony of ZZ Top.Forget where you are, remember where you were, and turn up the volume. A mere week into the New Year and we already have a new release that'll likely wind up being one of the best horror movies of 2026.Johnny Sequoyah leads Johannes Roberts' Primate as Lucy. While visiting her father (Troy Kotsur) and sister (Gia Hunter) back home in Hawaii, another family member of Lucy's takes a turn — their chimp, Ben. Ben is bitten by a rabid mongoose. While Lucy and her friends enjoy the family pool and dream-like views, Ben loses himself to the sickness and becomes, as Roberts put it, “the Freddy Krueger of chimps,” and brutally starts picking them off one by one. With Primate playing in theaters nationwide, Sequoyah swung by the Collider Ladies Night studio to dig into her journey, including highs like working with a legend like Alfonso Cuarón, and also the lows of being recast in a show. On top of that, Sequoyah offered up a behind-the-scenes look at the staggeringly impressive movie magic required to create her Primate scene partner, Ben the killer chimp. Hosted on Acast. Nick is joined again by film critics Erik Childress and Steve Prokopy for a packed round of new movie reviews. They break down the latest take on Wuthering Heights starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi, the chaotic sci-fi satire Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die with Sam Rockwell, and the thriller Crime 101 featuring Chris Hemsworth and Halle Berry. They also weigh in on the animated sports comedy Goat, with plenty of agreement, disagreement, and side tangents along the way. Esmeralda Leon jumps in later for a spirited conversation about Friday the 13th superstitions, which quickly turns into a deep dive on Jason Voorhees and his most memorable kills. There's a firm stance taken on the fact that he absolutely did not take Manhattan, along with a playful breakdown of how Jason and Freddy Krueger operate very differently and why those differences fuel their long-running feud. It's movie talk with a side of horror nerdery, exactly as it should be. [Ep 429]

She played a DNA expert on TV, but real forensics took 12 years to catch her stalker. Eva LaRue and daughter Kaya McKenna Callahan share what they endured.Full show notes and resources can be found here: jordanharbinger.com/1283What We Discuss with Eva LaRue & Kaya McKenna Callahan:For 12 years, Eva LaRue and her daughter Kaya were stalked by a man who sent graphic letters detailing plans to rape, torture, and murder them, signed "Freddy Krueger." The FBI profiler noted his clear, coherent writing made him especially dangerous. The stalker eventually called Kaya's high school pretending to be her father, leaving 19 voicemails overnight threatening to kill any teacher, student, or administrator who got in his way, proving his threats were escalating from paper to real-world action.Traditional law enforcement couldn't help because stalking laws require physical contact or break-in before police can act. The case was only solved when FBI agents used forensic genealogy — the same technology that caught the Golden State Killer (as discussed with investigator Paul Holes on episode 725) — matching DNA from the stalker's discarded Arby's cup.The psychological toll rewires how victims move through the world permanently. Kaya never posts locations in real time, always makes four left turns to verify she's not being followed, and grew up not knowing what life felt like "before" fear — because the stalking began when she was five.Speaking up and documenting everything matters. Eva's decision to report the letters to the FBI (through a CSI Miami advisor's connection) kept the case alive for 12 years until technology caught up. If you're being stalked, trust your instincts, preserve evidence, and know that persistence can eventually lead to justice. And much more...And if you're still game to support us, please leave a review here — even one sentence helps! Let's talk a nightmare on elm street and the origin of Freddy Kruger
Nick welcomes back Nell Minow, better known as The Movie Mom, for a wide-ranging conversation that moves easily from Washington politics to movies. They talk through what's happening in DC, run through several new film releases, look ahead to the upcoming Academy Awards, and take a moment to remember the remarkable career of Catherine O’Hara. It's the kind of discussion that blends smart analysis with genuine affection for the art form. The show then shifts gears when Nick's longtime friend Lisa Zane drops by. She talks about her upcoming photography exhibition opening next week at Eskell, along with her music, her recent appearance at the Flashback Weekend Horror Convention, and life in Chicago. Along the way, she shares a few great movie stories, including the small detail that she once killed Freddy Krueger. It's a relaxed, fun conversation that mixes movies, art, friendship, and just enough horror trivia to keep things interesting. [Ep 427]

In this holiday-themed episode of How I Met Your Monster, Zach, Danny, and Casey unwrap Damien Leone's Terrifier 3, a Christmas-set descent into extreme horror led once again by Art the Clown. What begins as festive fun quickly turns into a debate about gore limits, audience intent, and what horror is supposed to make us feel. The hosts explore whether Terrifier 3 is simply a showcase for increasingly elaborate kills or a continuation of the franchise's growing mythos. While Casey celebrates the film as peak fan service and Art's strongest performance yet, Zach and Danny wrestle with visceral reactions, lingering violence, and the physical toll of watching the movie. Along the way, the conversation touches on Christmas horror traditions, MPAA censorship history, Freddy Krueger comparisons, and why Art the Clown has become one of modern horror's most recognizable icons.Love it or hate it, Terrifier 3 sparks exactly the kind of reaction it sets out to provoke—and this episode captures that tension in real time. We're trying to figure out which is scarier: Ethan Hawke's vengeful, resurrected ghost-Grabber turning into a low-rent, ice-skating Freddy Krueger, or the fact that Finn and Gwen's family trauma somehow got wrapped up with a 1950s alpine tragedy.
Don't fall asleep! This week, Peaches and Michael are chugging coffee in celebration of 1984's A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET! In addition to discussing Freddy Krueger's undeniable hold on pop culture, our hosts delve into how Wes Craven's dreamscape forever altered the trajectory of horror cinema. Joining the conversation is legendary director of JAWBREAKER and G.B.F, Darren Stein, who not only speaks of his longtime love of this cult classic, but of its enduring resonance in genre circles and as a queer fave. Get ready for a deep dive into the making of A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge as it marks its 40th year. We explore the film's production, legacy, and how director Jack Sholder and writer David Chaskin shaped a chapter of the Elm Street saga that became a cult classic due in large part to its homoerotic themes and subject material. We reflect on how the film may have been misunderstood 40 years ago but has garnered a larger reassessment as it stands for something bigger within the horror genre. Joining in for this discussion is JC of mercwiththemovies who offers up considerable insight about this divisive second entry of the franchise. With performances from Mark Patton, Kim Myers, and Robert Rusler, plus Robert Englund's chilling presence as Freddy Krueger, discover why A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge is a worthy entry of the franchise.Links For Guests: MercWithTheMoviesWhere To Watch A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge

The Friday the 13th movie series is one of the top slasher movie franchises of the 1980s and beyond, so this week the Junkies take a look at Jason Voorhees, the unkillable movie monster with the staggeringly high body count who has been to camp, to hell, to outer space and has battled Freddy Krueger. The Junkies look at all 12 (not 13?) movies in the series so far, compare Jason to the other unstoppable slashers who made it big in the 1980s, Halloween's Michael Myers and Nightmare on Elm Street's Freddy, and figure out which of the three they could fend off if they ever found themselves having to choose one. Then the Junkies look to the future with Jason, and the newly-formed Jason Universe that could bring us that elusive 13th movie in the series - and more. Big Fat Five: A Podcast Financially Supported by Big Fat Snare Drum
Welcome back to Drummers on Drumming, powered by Big Fat Snare Drum. This week's panel features Eric Urrea, me, and a new friend of the podcast, Brian Blake from Real Friends. Brian shares his experiences making a living in pop-punk, dealing with impostor syndrome, and finding ways to keep joy alive when your passion becomes your paycheck. Eric and I explore the feeling of "faking it" on stage, the tendency of drummers to overthink their playing, and how small mistakes can ruin your night if you let them. In this episode, we discuss: The journey from feeling confident to realizing how much there is still to learn. Brian's experience with the moment he thought, "Maybe I'm not good enough to be doing this," and how that thought motivated him to move forward. Eric's nightmare scenario of being asked to "play a drum solo" in the middle of a set. The ways stage banter can feel scripted and how bands should acknowledge it. The idea that filming every show can help combat perfectionism, but also damage your ego. The unglamorous yet essential skill of honest communication within bands after difficult performances. --- Get Your Copy of the Drummers on Drumming Book Today!

RUNDOWN Is Mitch secretly a MOBSTER? The guys ride the high of a Seahawks blowout while fretting an Earnest Jones IV injury and torching D.C.'s awful turf, then rip through birthday/lore nuggets. An unforgettable World Series finish, seen through a Seattle lens—taking petty joy in Toronto's collapse while admitting Game 7 (and the under-discussed, error-filled Game 6) will haunt Mariners fans for years. Then it's all Seahawks: a near-perfect beatdown in D.C., vintage throwback uniforms, and why John Schneider should chase help at WR/OL/LB before the deadline. Mitch, Brady, and Jacson break down Seattle's 38–14 primetime rout of Washington — a game where both sides of the ball finally clicked. They discuss Sam Darnold's near-perfect night (one of only four 97+ QBRs in the NFL this season — three belonging to him), Mike Macdonald's astounding 11–1 road record, and the play-calling brilliance driving the offense. Rick Neuheisel joins Mitch to break down a wild week in college football — from the bloated buyouts fueling a $160 million coaching carousel to Washington's unlikely playoff path. The two dive into quarterback drama, "alma mater alimony," and the rise of dual-threat sensation Demond Williams, before wrapping with Taco Time's weekly honors — including a nod to Oklahoma's kicker and his unforgettable Daisy Duke game-day look. Christian Caple joins Mitch to assess the Huskies' 6–2 season and the playoff math that could still put Washington in the 12-team field if they run the table. He breaks down the defense's ability to hang with Oregon, the tricky stretch at UCLA, and how Jed Fish's success could make him a hot-commodity coach with a star quarterback in tow. We might not be falling head over heels for our next movie but we'll break through any barriers to let you know why as we talk about the 1991 sequel, Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare. Wes Craven's 1984 horror classic A Nightmare on Elm Street introduced Freddy Krueger, a dream-stalking slasher who kills teens in their sleep—kills that become real—and was inspired by a chilling true epidemic of Sudden Unexplained Nocturnal Death Syndrome (SUNDS) among Southeast Asian refugees in the late 1970s–80s. A young Cambodian survivor of the Khmer Rouge genocide (1975–79, ~2 million dead) resettled in the U.S., tormented by nightmares of being chased, resisted sleep for days, then died mysteriously in bed with no autopsy findings; the CDC documented over 100 similar cases of healthy young Hmong, Laotian, and Cambodian men dying overnight. Locally explained via folklore—like the Philippine batibat hag or Thai widow ghost suffocating victims—these deaths were later linked to Brugada syndrome, a genetic heart arrhythmia triggered by stress, heavy meals, or PTSD, though the "hundred years' enigma" remains unsolved, blending real trauma with cinematic terror. This episode in our Tales of Horror series centers on the characters who haunt Elm Street, from Nancy's legacy to the new dream-warriors who take up the fight in A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors. We highlight Heather Langenkamp's enduring heroine Nancy Thompson, Patricia Arquette's breakout energy, and Robert Englund's chilling and iconic Freddy Krueger. We also examine how the film gives space to a diverse ensemble, including Craig Wasson, Ken Sagoes, Rodney Eastman, Jennifer Rubin, Bradley Gregg, Ira Heiden, Laurence Fishburne and Penelope Sudrow—while weaving in the returning favorites such as John Saxon. Director Chuck Russell, with inspiration from Wes Craven's original dream logic and Frank Darabont's storytelling craft, crafts a nightmare that remains a touchstone for the genre. From the dream-world rules and inventive death sequences to the film's legacy in horror cinema, this episode covers what made Dream Warriors a fan favorite and a turning point in the series.Where To Watch A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors

This week we return to Elm Street to do battle with Freddy Krueger once more but this time in the real world with the real actors of the film in New Nightmare. Journey with us as we discuss this wild slasher revival that brings Wes Craven back into the fold as writer/director and a story that blurs the lines with film and reality. Is this the jumpstart the franchise needs or is this meta idea too ridiculous for its own good? So pour some rye, get your T-Rex stuffed animal, and don't forget to read the script. Cheers!
What if your favorite horror movies weren't fiction at all? In this chilling episode of Mysteries, Mayhem & Merlot, we uncover the real-life killers and legends that inspired Hollywood's most iconic nightmares. From Danny Rolling—the Gainesville Ripper who birthed Scream—to John Wayne Gacy's clown persona that echoed through It, the Manson Family's cult terror, the cannibal clan of Sawney Bean, and the Hmong sleep demon that gave rise to Freddy Krueger—these stories prove truth is far more terrifying than fiction. Grab your glass of Merlot, turn off the lights, and step into the shadows where real murder meets movie magic. Happy Spooky Season, Everyone! As many of you know, scary movies freak me out. But that doesn't mean I don't love today's guest! Today I'm talking to a horror icon— Freddy himself, Robert Englund! Robert is beloved for his performance as Freddy Krueger in A Nightmare on Elm Street and its many sequels. He has also had an illustrious career outside of Wes Craven's franchise, appearing in hundreds of films and TV shows, including a recent appearance as Victor Creel in Stranger Things. On Halloween of this year, he will be immortalized with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and it could not be going to a sweeter, more generous person. Robert is a joy to talk with and I'm so honored he took the time to chat with me. We have gotten to know each other over years at conventions and we have a great conversation about what it's like to be associated with an iconic role, his warm relationship with horror fans and how he used his experience on-set to inform his performance as Freddy. I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did— and Happy Halloween!
