It's that most wonderful time of the year and if that wonderful time of the year's special month happens to have it's 13th day fall upon a Friday and that means we might be living in an apocalypse. It also means that it's time to finish up what we started on last September's 13th and talk about the last 6 films, to date, of the FRIDAY THE 13TH franchise. Yes, we do call them “films”. Yes, they're mostly horrible. So let's go wrap up Jason's journey which takes him from Crystal Lake to Manhattan, Hell, Dreamworld and outer space 400 years from now. Our six pack episodes tend to pad out our D & F tiers and this one is no exception. I believe Bob states that one of the worst movies discussed yet is in this block. It never gets better with these things. Strap in because we're talking seven minutes at a time about such cult slasher classics as the brutal “FRIDAY THE 13TH PART VII: THE NEW BLOOD” from 1988, the ridiculous “FRIDAY THE PART VIII: JASON TAKES MANHATTAN” from 1989, the insanity of “JASON GOES TO HELL: THE FINAL FRIDAY” from 1993, the cheesy “JASON X” from 2001, the enjoyable “FREDDY VS. JASON” from 2003 and the surprisingly ok (is it reboot or remake?) “FRIDAY THE 13TH” from 2009 by Marc NIspel. You can hardly imagine how many people Jason has killed over the course of these movies. The online estimation clears 150 total. Rest in Peace, Jason Voorhees. We liked you and your mom but after you've had Pumpkinhead in your life it's just hard to think of any other slasher. Bring back Pumpkinhead! He may be an actor, broadway star, and producer, but that doesn't mean he is immune from the every day challenges of love, fame, and loss. In this candid interview, Kevin Spirtas shares insights of being a gay man in limelight and how he learned to unhide himself. About Kevin KEVIN SPIRTAS has become one of Hollywood's most watched talents. From Broadway Star, to TV Heartthrob… From his humble beginnings on Broadway at age 18 in A Chorus Line, to ‘standby' for Hugh Jackman in The Boy From Oz— Spirtas is most recognized around the world for his eight year stint as Dr. Craig Wesley from NBC/peacock Daytime Drama: Days of Our Lives, as well as the cult classic film sequels: Friday the 13th – Part VII: The New Blood, and Wes Craven's: The Hills Have Eyes – Part II. Before departing the soap in 2000, Spirtas had great fun playing his DAYS character opposite Matt LeBlanc's ‘Dr. Drake Ramory' on FRIENDS: The One That Could Have Been- Part 1. In 2008 the 30-year acting veteran produced the NY Shakespeare Festival reading-presentation of Don Cummings': A Good Smoke, starring Academy Award winning actress, Meryl Streep, and directed by Tony Award winning director, Pam McKinnon. Shortly thereafter in 2009, Spirtas made his debut as a Broadway producer on the critically acclaimed revival of Finian's Rainbow, and in 2012 he co-produced the hit Broadway musical: Priscilla…Queen of the Desert. As Spirtas' success as a Broadway producer blossomed, and grew, his passion for acting, never stopped. In 2014, after running into Days Of Our Lives alum, Michael Slade in a New York gym, the two set out to create the critically acclaimed 6 x Emmy Award Winning Digital Drama Series: AFTER FOREVER… A story about love, loss, and new beginnings. In 2019, AFTER FOREVER– Season 1 made history by becoming the first LGBTQ-themed drama series to win six Emmy awards across any platform. Spirtas received an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Digital Drama, along with 3 additional Emmys that he shares with Slade for Outstanding Digital Drama Series 2019 and Outstanding Writing Team for a Digital Drama 2019 and 2020. No matter how many Emmys Spirtas has, it's pretty safe to bet that AFTER FOREVER just might have been the very inspiration for Days of Our Lives Writers to have his character, Dr. Craig Wesley return to Salem to ‘come out' of the closet. A full circle moment for the soap opera character… And Spirtas for sure. AFTER FOREVER Season 3 - The Final Season, Begins streaming on Amazon prime late spring 2024. It's Popzara's Movie Time! Podcast Halloween Schlocktober!, our yearly dose of creepy movie mayhem! Our harrowing hosts Ethan “Bloodlust” Brehm and Nate “Entrails” Evans are your personal guides for this shocking smorgasbord of four shlocky horrors scraped direct from cinema's bottom-barrel that prove you don't need blockbuster budgets to have a good time. Also: listen for a special intro from none other than horror legend Ken Foree (Dawn of the Dead and one of the films listed below). Happy Halloween! The Movies: Shlock Til You Drop First up is 1986's Troll (the original and not the “best worst movie”), directed by effects guru John Carl Buechler (Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood, Ghoulies III: Ghoulies Go to College) that epitomizes the “high-concept / low-budget” genre of horror/comedy that ruled the 1980s home video circuit. Next is 1987's Street Trash, directed by Steadicam master J. Michael Muro (a favorite of James Cameron) and one of the most celebrated of all “melt movie” classics. Third is 1996's Leprechaun 4: In Space, directed by Brian Trenchard-Smith (one of Quentin Tarantino's favorites, apparently). It's not just the best of the Warwick Davis-starring franchise but among the most bat$h!t crazy concepts ever stitched together. Last is 1989's Phantom of the Mall: Eric's Revenge, a reworking of the Phantom mythos directed by Richard Friedman where the real star is the mall itself (RIP) and not an early appearance by Pauly Shore.

With humble beginnings in Pig Destroyer guitarist Scott Hull's bedroom, Agoraphobic Nosebleed quickly took on a life of its own in the underground. While having rarely played live the band's first decade was prolific to say the least, featuring several splits, EPs, and full-length releases. The formula was effective: “micro-length” arrangements combined with programmed drum parts at insanely fast tempos and tongue-firmly-planted-in-cheek lyrical concepts. 2009 stands as an anomaly for the band. Much of their catalog by this time captured the band with an almost improvised, raw intensity but perhaps lacked weight. However, Agoraphobic Nosebleed's fourth album would retain many of these same elements while also making room for dynamics, hooks and song lengths that surpassed a two-minute runtime. The inclusion of the band's newest member and Salomé vocalist Kat Katz is the standout, whose performance brought their sound to a new level of extremity listeners didn't realize was possible. One thing was clear, this was a new era for Agoraphobic Nosebleed. This week on Riff Worship, Austin & Dylan are joined by their longtime friend Justin Swindle to discuss Agorapocalypse Recommendations: Body Void - Atrocity Machine Chelsea Wolfe - Hiss Spun The Murder Mansion (1972) Krieg - Ruiner Hate Eternal - King Of All Kings Leprechaun (1993) Selenoplexia - Exalt and Despair Dinosaur Jr. - Dinosaur Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood (1988) For all updates on the show, follow us here: @distortion891 on Facebook, Instagram, & Twitter Tune in LIVE to Vocal Distortion, Mondays at 6PM CST on FM89, WONC.org, & the iHeart Radio app RIFFS ON REPEAT PLAYLIST: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/37W4wEyb5ELf2y0YYlhRy2?si=8529ae1e880d442c

Special topics for your consideration include: when your phone's autofill function tries to predict "your thing," an unexpected sessy moment, having your directorial debut and your swan song be the same film (sorry Robert Englund), and a whole ass host of 1980s teen horror tropes: old teens, hot principals, religious moms, kids with insane names, movie punks (or at least punk-adjacent), evil quips, panty thefts & so much more! In this episode, hosts Katherine Troyer and Toni Tresca grab their camping gear and head to the woods (metaphorically of course...Katherine is very allergic to nature) as they discuss the 1988 horror slasher film Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood. Episode Highlights: We celebrate the arrival of Kane Hodder as Jason even as we question why the film is called "THE New Blood." We explore the film's premise of Jason vs. Carrie and the ways that this storyline creates an interesting final girl for a franchise lacking its own Laurie or Nancy. And we talk about the weirdness of the film's conclusion, particularly as the ghost of the once abusive father becomes the hero to save Tina, and how this narrative twist situates the film firmly in the affirmative camp.  A Dose of Scholarship: We return to Horror Homeroom's special issue on Friday the 13th. In particular, we discuss Todd K. Platts' article "'It's Worth Recognizing Only as an Artefact of Our Culture:' Critics and the Friday the 13th Franchise (1980-2001)." And we continue to rely on Wickham Clayton's invaluable scholarly contribution to this franchise with his 202 book SEE! HEAR! CUT! KILL! Experiencing Friday the 13th. Bonus points for clocking just how long Cody goes without realizing him we're trying to get him to transition into tonight's film. We're back, nerds! 00:00 - 5:16ish Intros: How we think copyright works, and some out there therapeutic methodology.   5:16-sih - 1:11:00ish -  What we watched! Lucas - Vesper, Bullet Train (and the story of how this thing is available is f*cked), Drive My Car, The Northman (again), The Black Phone, Resurrection, Butcher Baker Nightmare Maker, The Baby, White Noise (2022), The Menu, and Guillermo Del Toro's Pinocchio. Cody - Guillermo Del Toro's Pinocchio, Slumberland, The Raid, The Viewing, The Runner,  Austin - Guillermo Del Toro's Pinocchio, Blood Machines, Don't Worry Darling, Resurrection, Dashcam, The Church, The History of the Occult, Night of the Zombies, and The Whale, and M3gan. Austin - Barbarian (again), Krampus, the first three Harry Potters, Beast, and Avatar: The Way of Water (all of us together!). Oh, also The Last of Us.    1:11:00ish - 1:43:00ish Puppet Master SHUDdown and discussion (check out the early business where we fool Cody for a record amount of time during our transition)   1:43:00ish - End - Our next movie!
