Karina Calver says, "forgiveness is the key to happiness" Having led a very difficult childhood, and gone through a lot of trauma, she is now determined to bring in more love, more care and more healing through 'Hukam Healing'. Karina is a coach, a mentor, a counsellor and an empathetic human being. She is a relationship expert and also a TEDx speaker, where she spoke about 'the power of forgiveness'. "Be with people who encourage you to express well" - it's a true saying, as a lot can be solved if we express and are given a safe space to do so. Key Highlights: We all hold on to pain, and its important to forgive for our own healing Men need to express more and explore their feminine side as well Conflict will be there forever, we need to question the 'why' of conflict, to resolve things We are all flawed, sooner we know it, we accept ourselves and others better Be mindfully present , to thrive in anything we do Why should you listen to this podcast? No relationship is all sunshine, but two people can share one umbrella and survive the storm together. To thrive in any relationship we need to pause, reflect and do littlest things together. Being mindful is really something that brings in a perspective that we might not see when we are in a reactive state of mind. Its important to know that we are all flawed, and that we need to work together and the key to any successful relationship is 'forgiveness'. A very meaningful and deep conversation that talks about trauma, healing & forgiveness; its a full circle to life! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/iiact/message

In seeking guests for the podcast, I sometimes go to Amazon books for areas I'm curious about. In episode 109 with Karina Calver, it so happens that she lives in Hong Kong and is a professional counselor. Or, in episode 84 with Monica Borschel, I had missed recording with her in Hong Kong as she had moved herself and her practice to California. So mental health is a big area of interest. When we spoke, Monica mentioned EMDR therapy. Or, how when I met Kristin Zeising in episode 61 and we discussed her Hong Kong practice and how she's helping people improve their sexual health. As it happens, Kristin was also part of the Great Drain that's seeing Hong Kong professionals depart. Right. Enter Stephanie Baird. I reached out because I saw her book, EMDR Therapy and Sexual Health - A Clinician's Guide. YES! EMDR and sexual health. Perfect. Also based in the USA (but with no history linking to Hong Kong), we lined up our schedules and met for a call. Stephanie is just RADIANT with goodness! She has an infectious joy and the kind of spirit who obviously deeply cares about others. This emerged from her personal experience throughout her life and as a parent, training, author of a clinician's guidebook – literally a manual for supporting other kind professionals – and even how she's supported her companion animals at home. Not only that, but she's more fun than a bucket of vibrators! Join us. Learn. When the pandemic is behind us, we will look back at this time, and – well, we will all interpret it from our experience. In my case, although Karina Calver and I live in the same city, having to record the episodes online instead of sitting face to face. This makes things... Different? Strange? Yet as many who work in the realm of mental health and coaching have found, there are benefits to talking with another person from our respective homes. Our dens of comfort. I reached out to Karina because I saw her digital footprint connected to counseling and helping people deal with tough times. The area of mental health and coping with hard times is crucial for helping to inspire others to make every second count. Was it a TED talk? Was it an episode on the local radio station? Whatever it was, I expected one level of conversation and ended up being totally floored. Brave. Courageous. Strong. Visionary. Empowering. Uplifting... The list goes on and they are all true. Karina Calver is a survivor of incest. She shares her story of enduring rape and how she has turned her life around to become the woman she is today. The silence that surrounds incest survivors can make them feel isolated, and Karina hopes by sharing her story others will know they are not alone. Survivors are all around us, among our friends, at school, at work, places of worship and it's likely we don't know they are survivors. The taboo around the subject makes it hard for them to share their stories and for others to understand the impact this can have. Karina wants to bring the conversation out in the open where nothing is a taboo anymore so that victims do not need to be scared to speak their truth, fear seeming inadequate and not being an equal. She wants others to know that they are capable of building a life of their choice filled with love, happiness and surrounded by people who are willing to help every step of the way. She is our NRI Woman and this is her story! Until next time keep learning, keep inspiring and be kind.
